2009-02-15 00:26:00 I signed up for the Player's Advantage, which comes with Real-Time Scoring, so I am able to share a Top 10 points update after the day 1 weigh in. As you can see I am 27th in my own group, looks like almost 80 anglers submitted lineups this week in my group. So these are the teams looking good so far, but a lot can chance day to day. Setting a FLW Fantasy Fishing Lineup for Lake Guntersville
2009-02-11 12:24:00 This will be the first of many installments of my Fantasy Bass Fishing Corner genre of blog entries for both FLW & BASS Fantasy Fishing. How to Pick'em!So let's start out talking about the strategies on how to make a good lineup for FLW Fantasy Fishing. Things of note:1. There is no salary cap, so feel free to litter your lineup with big names and superstars if you see fit2. FLW has a large field, 150 boats down from 200, so scores should be even higher this year3. Jackpotters are for the most part out this year, last year FLW filled fields with locals, not the case last year4. It's all about the Top 10's!!! Guys that are perennial consistent finishers, and don't make Top 10's are of little value in the FLW scoring system5. Take a look at Player's Advantage, last year at $40, I thought it was bit of a rip off, this year at $10, I think its a very solid value. It tells you the anglers that live closest to the lake, expert picks, angler l... More About: Lake , Lineup
Relaxing Morning at the River
2009-02-10 12:23:00 I was able to get up and head out to the river with my pal Bill for some fishing yesterday. We were on the water by 8:45am. It was so peaceful and calm and rarely did a fish break the tranquility for me. I caught one carp, one rock bass and finally one 2lb smallmouth about 15 minutes before I had to head home to make my curfew.Bill did get this sweet picture of me fishing in the morning, so at least I got a new picture for the desktop of my laptop!!Bill's trip was a little lest quiet and peaceful, I think 7 smallies disturbed his morning, Poor Guy!! I think I will take Bill fishing more, he takes great pictures!! I am starting to work on putting together some homework and info on how to build your FLW Fantasy Fishing Lineup for Guntersville. Super Sunday
2009-02-04 00:18:00 It was a Super Sunday for me indeed, but that had little to do with the Football game that evening. Bill and I got up early, got to the walking path as the sun was still below the horizon. When we arrived to the area, it was breezy and about 21 degrees. Luckily I was all bundled up with Akinetix hat and gear, makes a big difference when you are fishing in January and you are dressed for the weather. We were the first ones there this time and agreed to stay close so that we could get good pictures if we caught larger fish.Bill & I were both giddy and anxious to get our rods unwrapped and make that first cast, my first pitch I had a solid tap and missed the fish, threw back in got thumped again and reared back only to break my line. After getting a new black & blue 1/2oz Tru-Tungsten jig tied up, it was on, Bill and I were hooking fish at a steady pace. We were getting bit on nearly every cast when we started. It only took us about 30 ...
Frozen Tundra Largemouth
2009-02-03 00:17:00 The past two winters, I have been doing my best to beat Cabin Fever by casting to open water smallmouth on the Mississippi River. Don't get me wrong, its a great time and beats the heck out of ice fishing or sitting at home watching "World's Greatest Fishing Show" (No offense Z); but there are times when I want to fish for big green bass, with big lures and big sticks. The river smallies are all about 8lbs test and 1/8oz tube jigs with spinning gear. There is a part of me that is only satisfied with 1/2oz jigs, 7' Heavy Baitcasting gear and thunderous bone jarring hooksets, you know what I mean????So this past Saturday morning I headed up to northern Minnesota to meet my buddy Bill to fish a warm water discharge that is know to have opportunity for both numbers & quality largemouth even in the dead of winter. I got a late start from home, so it was nearly 1pm before we wet a line and the area was crawling with anglers fishing for bass, panfis... More About: Tundra , Frozen

How to Rig a "Stupid Tube"
2009-01-26 00:14:00 I have had many people leave messages both on my blogs and forum. How do you rig the "Stupid Tube "?The Stupid Tube was made famous when Federation Nation angler Terry McWilliams from Indiana made the Bassmaster Classic through the Federation Nation ranks, largely on the fish he caught on his "Stupid Tube". It got the name, because anglers back home always asked if he was catching fish on "That Stupid Tube" he so often used to beat them with. See article on Terry here. The only real difference between a Stupid Tube and a normal tube jig, is the way you rig it. The stupid tube still used a tube jig head or similar jig head, but you kind of rig in a hybrid between a texas rig, normal tube rig and a shakey head! Below are picture diagrams of how to rig your own "Stupid Tube". The reason the stupid tube rig is so deadly, you get a similar erratic fall and action as an exposed tube jig, but its virtually weedless and still gets great hook ups on fis...
Bronze Gold in the Dead of Winter
2009-01-26 00:14:00 Well up here in Minnesota, we finally got out of a week, where we never reached above zero degrees Fahrenheit, had a day or two of weather that hovered around 30 degrees, so I took that as a cue to get some fishing done!! My club member Dave Cindrich joined me for the day. Early on, it was pretty cold, as it was about 20 degrees when we started fishing. It was nice to have my new Akinetix beanie to keep my head nice & warm You can see the rocks and the very clear water in this pictureThe first spot we stopped at for about 15 minutes, not a single bite, so we quickly moved on. The next area, was slow to get going but we did pluck 10 smallmouth from the area and had a couple more on. I got one close to 4lbs and another over 3lbs there right before we left. The first four fish came on tubes, 2 on a stupid tube rig and the other two on a rattling tube jig. The next 6 came on a Fork Craw rigged on a shakey head (Picasso Shakedown &a... Bass Tweaks Elite Series again....
2009-01-20 00:12:00 BASS yesterday released newly revised payouts and entry fees for its 2009 Bass master Elite Series . BASS stated that the newest revision was made "in light of recent feedback." Entry fees were increased to $41,600 for the 8-event season (up from the previously announced $32,000). Payouts were adjusted accordingly and can be found below. Note that significant money was moved from the Angler of the Year program into regular-season events, alongside the increase in entry fees, so that anglers who finish 50th or better will now win at least $10,000. In addition, BASS moved its rescheduled Oneida Elite Series back to its original dates of Aug. 13?16, and hence there is no longer a Forrest Wood Cup conflict. Which is excellant news for Ish Monroe, Takahiro Omori, Greg Hackney & Tommy Biffle who have qualified for this event. Newest Revision: 2009 Elite Series Event Payout 1. $100,000 2. $25,000 3. $20,000 4. $15,000 5. $14,000 6. $13,500 7. $13,000 8. $12,500 9. $12,000 10. $11...

From what I can tell, you can watch all kind of outdoor TV shows that may or may not be on your local cable or satellite package, plus you can watch them On Demand on your computer, you can even skip through the commercials, although they would prefer you don't This is my attempt to embed an interesting show from Fishers of Men outdoors where they throw heavy jigs into Lake Minnetonka milfoilSo this is a trial to see how it works to some degree, hope you like it! Listening to a Legend
2009-01-12 12:08:00 It was the best title that I could come up with for my excursion to watch Denny Brauer's seminar at Warner Dock on Saturday. I will give the nod to my buddy Josh's blog title (Schooled by Denny Brauer). Speaking of which, I really miss that TV show, but I guess it did not get watched as much as "Beat Charlie Moore" and now we are stuck with the Mad Fisherman, rather then intelligent fishing programming like "Schooled by Denny Brauer" was.Denny's seminar focused mainly on flipping and picthing techniques which are his bread and butter, that is how he won his Classic Title and multiple AOY titles as well. Overall, some of it was basic in my mind, some stuff reinforced my thoughts on how I fish shallow cover and I did pick up a few pointers as well, so all in all, worth the drive. Heck, what else was I going to do when it was 15 degrees outside???Of course, Denny plugged his signature Strike King Jig & Chunks, talked about the new Rage baits. Mentio... BASS Announces 2009 Bassmaster Elite Series Postseason, Reduced Entry Fees
2009-01-11 12:07:00 This is a pretty big announcement from BASS. While it is a bit of a shocker, I think this demonstrates that BASS is committed to helping the pro anglers and making it easier for them to compete in these times where sponsor money can be very hard to get. I also am sure, it will only be a few moments before Sport stops by to comment and complain about Bay De Noc getting bumped, but its an expensive place to travel to for both anglers and tournament staff, it would have likely been a great event, but I am sure BASS will get another event their soon in the next year or two!BASS Announces 2009 Bass master Elite Series Postseason , Reduced Entry Fees BASS announced today it has revamped the 2009 Bassmaster Elite Series, decreasing entry fees per angler by $25,200 for the season and introducing a two-event, no-entry-fee postseason. Gift #7 for the Bass Fishing Rube in your life!
2008-12-24 17:57:00 It is getting to be crunch time to find and you running out of time to get a good stocking stuffer for your favorite bass angler. This is a sweet little product that you can sneak in their stocking that will save them a ton of time and a bunch of money over the next year.Click here to see the first look video Mend It! VideoMend-It! is a great solution that acts like a glue when used to bond soft plastic baits and swimbaits back together, but does not stick to you or your other stuff. The great thing is, it brings your favorite, expensive and hard to find colors and baits back to life, which means you can spend more time fishing and less time shopping for new baits. And more time fishing, means more fish in the boat!!!You may have heard that this stuff dries up to fast, but they have revamped the packaging and now it lasts much longer and you are most likely to use it up before it stiffens up. Gifts #6 for the Bass Fishing Rube in your life!
2008-12-18 17:55:00 The shopping season is dwindling down, so its time to ramp up the Gift Ideas for bass fishing anglers in our lives!! In my mind, nothing says happy holidays, like the gift of Tungsten Baits utilizing tungsten, help anglers catch more fish and lure with tungsten, do not contain lead, so they are better for our lakes & rivers. So if you give your favorite angler a little tungsten in his/her stocking, you can feel good for 2 reasons! So here are a few ideas of some great ways to give the gift that keeps on giving. The new 4" Tru-Life swimbaits are the hot ticket right now, big enough to put big bass & pike in your boat, but not too big to sacrifice bites. The thing that makes this bait very unique, is the adjustable weight and sink rate system created by the removable tungsten balls that can be put in or taken out on this bait.Another new Innovation is the Tru-Tungsten soft plastics worms that already have tungsten powder in the head or tails of the worm ... Hackney dominates at Falcon Lake!
2008-12-09 17:52:00 Last week FLW held their FLW Series fish-off at Falcon Lake in Texas. The Fish-off format is interesting in the fact that it seed anglers from the FLW East & West series in a head to head format to make the Forest Wood Cup, but there is a overall winner as well and Greg Hackney put up a sick 3 day weight of 109-06. He was just a few ounces from breaking the FLW 4 day record in a 3 day event. So that is 15 fish for over 109lbs, quick math gives him a 7.3lb per fish average.Greg caught most of his fish on the new Strike King Anaconda 10" worm, fishing pretty deep along an old road on a bluff edge. You can find a lot of good info and detail in this BassFan.com story. One thing that is somewhat strange, is while Hackney was off the charts, man anglers struggled to put 5 fish in the well every day.
