Pulver/Penn Head2Head
2007-06-21 18:06:00 By Evilmaster and Elias Cepeda The fifth season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF5) was one of the series' least entertaining seasons. Because of the artificially manufactured rivalry between the two head coaches on the show, Jens Pulver and BJ Penn , the season sucked even worse than one could have anticipated. All season long the field of contenders was widdled down as Pulver and Penn "barely kept away from each other's throats."On Saturday, June 23rd, everything will climax as the two finalists, Manny Gamburyan and Nate Diaz square off to decide the first ever lightweight Ultimate Fighter and Jens and BJ fight.Who will win the Pulver-Penn matchup? It's time for another Evilmaster Report Head2Head! This week Evilmaster and Elias Cepeda take a look at the fight, take sides and fight to the death, or as close as you can get to it through the sportive written word.Jens Pulver vs. BJ Penn Cepeda: Never count out Jens Pulver. Back in 2002 Jens was set to defend his UFC light weight c... More About: Ulver
So many fight cards!!
2007-06-21 17:54:00 Now I realize why UFC doesn’t want to be a publicly-traded company. This weekend’s activities: StrikeForce on Friday at the San Jose Arena with Shamrock vs. Baroni. Tuff ‘n Uff on Friday night in Las Vegas with Frank Mir vs. Renato Babalu and Brad Imes on the undercard. On Saturday, Las Vegas has two major fights (Ricky Hatton vs. Jose Luis Castillo and BJ Penn vs. Jens Pulver) plus Kimbo Slice vs. Ray Mercer from Atlantic City and Chris Jericho at the HOOK ‘n SHOOT event in Kentucky. Sunday (if you care about pro-wrestling) is a WWE PPV. The schedule of content never seems to end.- Evilmaster More About: Fight , Cards
Jose Luis Castillo workout
2007-06-21 17:50:00 Thursday, June 21 2007 By Albert Jimenez Howell / Photo: Natasha Chornesky Two-time WBC lightweight champion José Luis Castillo (55-7-1, 47 KOs) worked out Wednesday at the Top Rank Gym in Las Vegas, Nevada in preparation for Saturday's showdown against IBO light welterweight champion Ricky Hatton (42-0, 30 KOs) at the Thomas & Mack Center. On May 7, 2005 Castillo participated in one of the top fights of all-time when he squared off against the late great Diego Corrales in their classic lightweight war. When asked to compare Hatton's style to that of Corrales, Castillo said that there really is no comparison. Whereas Corrales was more of a classic boxer, Hatton is more of a reckless brawler. Castillo emphasized, "Hatton throws a lot of punches, and when he is not throwing punches he is grabbing at you." Castillo reinforced that when comparing Hatton to the more technical American champions, saying Hatton appears to have no rhythm and will also throw elbows. (More) More About: Workout , Jose

Relson Gracie on Allegations of Royce Gracie Using Steroids
2007-06-19 18:16:00 Relson Gracie stopped in San Diego, California for a seminar on June 17, 2007 at Fabio Santos‘ academy. In this video, we sat down with Relson to discuss his thoughts on the California State Athletic Commission’s recent report that Relson’s brother Royce Gracie tested positive for steroids. The report, if accurate, is particularly unfortunate given that Gracie jiu-jitsu is based around the idea that it is technique, not strength which wins fights. This would be the first known example of a Gracie using performance enhancing drugs in competition. More About: Steroids
Zuffa and Cage Rage in trademark dispute
2007-06-19 18:12:00 There is news today that the London law office of McDermott, Will, and Emery (hired by Zuffa LLC) is in a trademark dispute with Cage Rage . What makes the article containing this information difficult to understand is exactly what the dispute is about. The article claims the following: Zuffa alleges that UK company Cage Rage infringed its trademark by organising fights using the Ultimate Fighting name. Since then the company has sought to crack down on any other organisations using the Ultimate Fighting name. Cohen said: “We wrote to Cage Rage and they failed to respond adequately, so we sued them. It’s a passing off and trademark infringement action.” To top it all off, the article at the end uses Zuffa’s proprietary term of ‘ultimate fighting’ to describe MMA as… ultimate fighting. For those with knowledge of the situation — when did Cage Rage use the term ‘ultimate fighting’? Long-term legal question: With so many mainstream media outlets using the term ‘ult... CSAC CLARIFIES ROYCE GRACIE DRUG TEST
2007-06-19 18:11:00 Monday, June 18, 2007 - by Ken Pishna - MMAWeekly.com The California State Athletic Commission today released a statement in regards to Royce Gracie ’s recent positive test results concerning his K-1 fight against Kazushi Sakuraba. Initial reports indicated that Gracie had tested positive for Nandrolone, a steroid that occurs naturally in the human body, but did not include detailed information other than the positive result.Today’s statement answered questions regarding the results being borderline or a false positive. According to the CSAC, they contacted the laboratory that performed the testing and obtained specific, detailed information about the test and results. The statement read that, “A normal person could have a level of 2 ng/mL of Nandrolone that the human body could potentially produce and an athlete that has just completed rigorous physical exercise could have a level of 6 ng/mL.“We received a written response from the laborat... Michael Bisping vs. Ken Shamrock at UFC 75
2007-06-18 16:21:00 Ken Sham rock, front, having his ass stared at by Dana WhiteThe Ultimate Fighter 3 light heavyweight winner Michael Bisping (13-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) will fight UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock (26-12-2 MMA, 7-6-2 UFC) — not Matt Hamill — at UFC 75 in London, England on Sept. 8. That’s the report from The Fight Network. Bisping was originally expected to face his former castmate Matt Hamill. Ticketmaster released an event description last week that included the matchup. Instead, though, Loretta Hunt says that Shamrock will come out of retirement to face Bipsing at the event, which takes place at the 02 Arena. After topping Josh Haynes in The Ultimate Fighter 3 Finale, Bisping defeated Eric Schafer with a first-round TKO at UFC 66. Then, in front of a Manchester crowd at April’s UFC 70 event, he scored a second-round TKO of Elvis Sinosic. Shamrock has been fighting professionally for nearly 14 years and competed in the very first UFC event. The submission specialist left the UFC for s... More About: Michael Bisping , Ping
Evilmaster Commentary - Zuffa fucked up by putting Penn vs. Pulver on free
2007-06-18 02:51:00 Ricky Hatton fights on HBO the same night Penn squares off against PulverThe decision to book BJ Penn vs. Jens Pulver on free TV and not on PPV will prove to be a very costly one. UFC is facing a daunting challenge on Saturday night, right in their own backyard. Top Rank Promotions and HBO are producing a big event at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas with Ricky Hatton vs. Jose Luis Castillo for the IBF Jr. Welterweight title. The show is expected to be sold out and swarms of media will be in attendance. There will be many Las Vegas media reporters who will be attending this event rather than the UFC event at the Palms. Only the traditional MMA media writers will be in attendance to watch Penn vs. Pulver, a fight that could have made money for UFC on PPV. It’s also a fight that could have desparately injected some life into what ended up being a horrible UFC 72 event that featured one decent match. The decision to run Penn vs. Pulver in a smaller venue in Las Vegas and to a... More About: Commentary , Free , Putting , Comm

I don’t think the match will ever happen, but it’s still interesting. At one point, someone asked about both Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle. White said that they hadn’t spoken to Lesnar (although in the past he’s said that the UFC is interested in Lesnar) but were speaking with Angle. White reiterated how he didn’t think Angle could make the jump right to the UFC and would need proper training. 2007-06-17 21:51:00 Is boxing really dying? No. Take a look at the last week. The mighty UFC could only sell 6,438 tickets for UFC 72 while the Cotto vs. Judah bout sold 21,000 tickets. 6,438 vs. 21,000 is a huge blowout. Not even close. So no boxing is not dying.
