Bas Rutten Says Kimbo is a Great Fighter
2007-06-14 18:48:00 Bas has respect for Kimbo . Bas Rutten , posting at the Sherdog Forums, says Kimbo is one of the hardest-working fighters he's seen: OK guys, I have to say something here.I am training Kimbo right now, and I have to say that he is one of the BEST fighters I have EVER trained. He really listens to you and does what you say, do you know how hard that it? If he's dead tired, and I tell him five more rounds, he looks at me, but doesn't say anything, he just does it. I entroduced him to the Bas Rutten MMA workout, he was SO tired, he told me that he has never been as tired. Today I was teaching him again, he asked me in the beginning "Are we ging to do the Bas Rutten workout?" But he said it in a crazy way, so I asked him "Do you want to do it?". He said "Please, yes!" I asked him why, because all my PROFESSIONAL fighters don't want to do it.He said "Bas, I want to conquer this thing, I want to do it!" Man, he gets, Lots, and losts of respect! All the shit that people write about him,... More About: Great , Fighter

Corrales was over the limit
2007-06-13 16:05:00 Diego Corrales - killed in motorcycle crash Toxicology tests have shown that Diego Corrales was three times over the alcohol limit when he crashed his motorcycle and died. The boxer known as 'Chico' was killed in a three-vehicle accident near his Las Vegas home on May 7 this year aged only 29. Corrales had a history of drunken driving while it's also been confirmed by court officals and the state Department of Motor Vehicles that he was riding without a valid license. Corrales' blood-alcohol content was 0.25 percent at the time of the crash and the legal limit for drivers in Nevada is 0.08 percent. "It's quite possible that, had he not been impaired, he could have prevented his accident," Las Vegas police Sgt. Tracy McDonald told ESPN. "Bottom line, no one else did anything wrong. He basically killed himself." Pat Lamparelli, a Corrales family friend, has said he was not surprised to learn Corrales had been drinking before he crashed his 2007 Suzuki while...

Dr. Margaret Goodman Speaks Out!
2007-06-11 02:16:00 What Happened to Doing Our Homework? By Margaret Goodman, MDThere are many reasons to force fighters to undergo prefight medical tests. No fighter should be at an unfair advantage or disadvantage due to an undisclosed medical condition or drug, and no one should fight with a serious communicable disease. The latter was the reason why, in the early 1990’s, the Nevada State Athletic Commission became the first boxing regulatory body in the country to require HIV testing. More About: Peak

Dana White: Liddell-Rampage = Tyson-Douglas
2007-06-07 15:11:00 Dana White , as he appeared in his high school yearbook/Credit: Fightsport.com and Ted JohnsonUFC president Dana White told a Minneapolis newspaper that Chuck Liddell losing to Quinton Jackson was like Mike Tyson losing to Buster Doug las. When asked about how the loss would affect Liddell's star power, White said it wouldn't."It happens in this sport. Guys lose. Chuck is one of those fighters that's going to bounce back. He's a tough guy. ... You never know who's going to win. Chuck getting knocked out was the equivalent of Buster Douglas knocking out Mike Tyson"As Adam Morgan at Fight Opinion points out, Douglas was a 42-1 underdog against Tyson. Rampage , on the other hand, had already badly beaten Chuck once, and was a narrow underdog coming into the most recent bout.In the same interview, White says he doesn't like talking about money. "All sports have gotten to be too about the money," he says. "I don't like talking about the money. Who gives a [rip]? Do you like the figh...
UFC and Spike TV at odds again
2007-06-07 14:51:00 Dana White, as he appeared in his high school yearbook/Credit: Fightsport.com and Ted JohnsonSteve Sievert from the Houston Chronicle caught up with UFC president Dana White and asked him about the recent announcement by Spike TV that Noah Thomas would be fighting Marlon Sims on the live season finale of TUF 5 on June 3. White said the following: They’re not fighting on the finale. Not only are they not fighting in the finale, they’ll never fight in the UFC. Spike wanted that fight. It ain’t gonna happen. No (expletive) way is that fight going to happen. Those guys will never fight in the UFC - ever. Kudos to the UFC for standing up to Spike. Sims and Thomas are going to fight, but let them do it somewhere else. By trying to book the match, Spike made White look hypocritical following his rant about the street fight between the two and then his decision to kick them off the show. White has also been critical of the Kimbo Slice vs. Ray Mercer matchup scheduled for the Cage Fur... More About: Odds , Pike
Josh Koscheck's MySpace Hacked!
2007-06-07 14:47:00 A bulletin that showed up on the official MySpace profile of UFC welterweight Josh Koscheck — one that ripped into the UFC’s policy for paying fighters — was not actually posted by Koscheck. That’s the word from the American Kickboxing Academy fighter, who posted a follow-up bulletin claiming his account was hacked. The original posting can be found after the “Read the rest of this entry…” link below. It basically states that the UFC is making record revenues while failing to appropriately compensate its fighters. UFC president Dana White was the biggest target in the 400-word diatribe. But according to Koscheck: “I AM AWARE OF THE PAGE BEING HACKED AND THE BULLETINS POSTED. THIS WILL BE FIXED ASAP.. TO THE PU–Y WHO HACKED MY PAGE, GET A FU—N LIFE!! COME TO MY FACE AND SAY THAT S–T BITCH!! KOS & PCAMPO” With Koscheck set to face Georges St. Pierre at UFC 74 (and with the winner earning a title shot in spring 2008), the timing of the original bulletin seem... Arum: UFC Underpays Its Fighters
2007-06-06 15:09:00 Bob ArumLegendary boxing promoter Bob Arum says that the UFC is using its status as the world's premier mixed martial arts organization to underpay the athletes who have made the sport what it is."They have a complete monopoly," he told Boxing Scene, "and have choked off all the competition, and their fighters have to take what they give them. In boxing, we have a totally different model, different pay scale. We give 90 percent of the money from a promotion to the fighters."He admits that the UFC's presentation and promotions blows away boxing, but says part of that is due to so few dollars going to fighters."The guys who promote this stuff are able to spend so much money on advertising because they don't pay their fighters anything. Here they had a big pay-per-view show last week in which they had more than a million buys and took in around 20 million dollars. And I doubt they spent more than a million dollars on all the participants on the program." (The actual number reported ... More About: Fighters , Pays , Under , Fighter
