Here are the four guaranteed fights for the 3 p.m. EST pay-per-view (PPV) telecast: 185 lbs.: Rich Franklin (21-2) vs. Yushin Okami (20-3)205 lbs.: Forrest Griffin (13-4-0) vs. Hector Ramirez (6-2-1)185 lbs.: Jason MacDonald (18-8) vs. Rory Singer (11-6)155 lbs.: Tyson Griffin (8-1-0) vs. Clay Guida (21-7) For the complete UFC 72 fight card click here. Over the last few weeks and months, a majority of readers here and elsewhere have voiced their displeasure with this event. Perhaps that’s because it went from being FREE on Spike television to a $40 PPV event, or many are unimpressed with the line up. Who knows … it could also be a combination of those two factors. As a result, the abundance of negative feedback leading up to this event leads me to believe that it won’t break any PPV buy rates. And, accordin... More About: Fans , Card , Main , Care , Line

Boxing wouldn't get away with this bullshit
2007-06-05 17:42:00 Imagine what the response would be if two of my boxers fought each other - and I told them to ease off half way through a world title fight.Or what would happen if beforehand I instructed one to fight in as negative fashion as possible.I'd get plenty of stick and rightly so, but that's exactly what's happened in two of sport's showpiece events over the last fortnight.Last Sunday at the Monaco Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso was leading the race and his McLaren bosses ordered second-placed team-mate Lewis Hamilton not to challenge for victory. If a similar situation arose on one of my shows, I'd have been vilified in the press and had thousands of fans demanding their money back.McLaren were later cleared of wrong-doing by the sport's governing body the FIA, but I still found the situation unbelievable. And a fortnight ago, when Chelsea and Manchester United played out one of the most boring Cup Finals in history, Jose Mourinho was praised for sending out a team that won at all costs... Navel Gazing and the Decline of American Boxing
2007-06-05 17:38:00 When just a baby, who doesn’t have a cute belly-button? Whether an innie or an outie, people will admire your belly and you too will learn how cute it is. But as years pass and indulgence in plenty makes your belly button disappear in the folds of fat, it’s not so cute. It now just collects lint and dirt and other odd things, and you just don’t want to look at it anymore. Boxing in America used to have a cute belly button, one that people could stare at for hours on end. It had boxing matches on national network television like ABC, CBS, and NBC. It had a list of champions like Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson, and Carmen Basilio. Even in the 1970s and 1980s boxing’s belly button still had a lot of eyes on it: Ali and Frazier, Leonard and Hearns all brought the eyes of the world to it. Later, a few names would cause people to glance over briefly: De La Hoya and Trinidad, Lewis and Holyfield and Tyson. But since the Mayweather-De La Hoya match from early May p... Sean Salmon Discusses Being KICKED OUT of the UFC
2007-06-05 17:35:00 From UFC Junkie:I said in my last blog that UFCjunkie.com fans would know what’s next for me before anyone else. Well, here is the story. My manager, Ken Pavia, has spoken with Joe Silva (the UFC’s matchmaker), who gave us some options with which to work. Ken and I spoke at length and came to this decision: I am leaving the last fight on my contract with the UFC for a later date and taking a “release” to fight for other organizations. I made this decision based on where I want my career to end up, not where it is presently. Let me explain my thinking.More from this loser HERE. More About: Bein , Sean , Being , The U , Disc

Antonio Tarver Claims He Was Possibly Poisoned In Hopkins Fight
2007-06-02 20:12:00 BY ROBERT MORALES, Staff WriterArticle Last Updated: 06/01/2007 11:04:24 PM PDTIt appears the, "Hey, I was poisoned" excuse is gaining in popularity. George Foreman, in his new book, reiterates what he said shortly after his knockout loss to Muhammad Ali in October 1974 - that he might have been poisoned and that his strength was sapped because of it. Wladimir Klitschko said the same thing after he was stopped by Lamon Brewster in April 2004. Now Antonio Tarver is saying he might have been the victim of such a deed when he fought lethargically in a lopsided loss to Bernard Hopkins last June.REST OF THE ARTICLE More About: Fight , Claims , Ossi

Miletich: Lesnar a Heavyweight Matt Hughes
2007-06-02 19:59:00 Lesnar: Matt Hughes with a bad tattoo?Brock Lesnar is like a heavyweight Matt Hughes , says heralded MMA coach Pat Miletich, who trained the former WWE wrestler as he prepared for his K-1 Dynamite match tonight. In an article about Lesnar's potential value to various MMA organizations, Five Ounces of Pain writer Sam Caplan says:"...his appraisals of Lesnar's ability were glowing. At one point, Miletich referred to Lesnar as "Matt Hughes at 265 pounds." Lesnar's wrestling ability is unquestioned and he apparently picked up submissions with ease. The only question is his standup, although Miletich said that from what he saw of Lesnar, he looked light on his feet for such a big man and has a lot of potential in that regard. He's apparently made major strides in his standup game while working with Nelson"Lesnar, a former NCAA champion, makes his MMA debut against at K-1 Dynamite's show at the L.A. Coliseum. He really worked for it
2007-05-31 17:34:00 ONCE a shy, chubby five-year-old awkward kid, Craig Lavin has now developed into a highly trained and skilled combat Jiu Jitsu fighter. Thirteen intense training years have finally gotten him to today – the face-off for his Junior Black Belt Jiu-Jitsu grading. It’s a tough and gruelling affair, run by chief instructors Mike Herbig and Graham Turner as well as two junior black belts instructors. Outside the Melkbos Cultural Centre it was pouring with rain which did not dampen spectators’ spirits as Lavin was put through four relentless hours of grading. After four hours of hellish exhaustion and a black eye he was allowed a physical respite which then switched to the theoretical knowledge test held by a panel of black belts. The grading thus tests both theoretical and practical knowledge under duress. Needless to say he passed all of this with flying colours and graded to 1st Dan Junior Black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and proved the club’s motto of “Dont TELL me, SHOW ... More About: Really , Ally
