Strikeforce to Premiere April 12 on NBC

In a major step for the fastest-growing sport around the globe, NBC has partnered with world championship promotion company Strikeforce to be the first to premiere a weekly mixed martial arts cage fight series on broadcast television. “Strikeforce on NBC” will premiere the night of April 12, 2008 from 2-2:30 a.m. EST on NBC.The announcement was made by Jerry Petry, Executive Vice President, NBC Universal Television. “Mixed martial arts has exploded onto the sports scene. After appearing on the covers of both FLEX and Muscle and Fitness magazines, it was only a matter of time before IFBB Figure Pro Jessica Paxson-Putnam made her way to the screen.Not the big screen - yet at least.But Paxson-Putnam informed us recently that she is currently filming an episode of the MTV television show Made.“I got a call from a friend the week before the [FLEX] Swimsuit shoot and she told me they were interested shooting me for MTV's Made," Paxson-Putnam said. "I guess they saw pictures of me in FLEX and Muscle and Fitness. So I made a five minute video of myself sent it to them, and the producer contacted me the next day."According to Paxson-Putnam, the producers of the show told her she could reveal no further details at the present time. On March 14, 2002, a representative of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency went to Chula Vista, Calif., to collect a urine sample from an elite athlete who was training there. It was a surprise test, in more ways than one.In a federal courtroom Wednesday, doping control officer Thomas McVay testified that the athlete came to the door with shaving cream on her face. That is not a typo. The athlete in question was Tammy Thomas, a female track cyclist who was ensnared in the sprawling BALCO doping scandal. Steroid abuse had given her facial hair, male-pattern baldness and a deep, gravelly voice, several witnesses have testified this week. Steroid chemist Patrick Arnold of Ergopharm testified in San Francisco federal court today in the perjury case against cyclist Tammy Thomas . Pat Arnold said under oath that THG was explicitly created to avoid detection by athletes subject to doping controls. It's official, Lee Priest is back! According to Steve Blechman, "Lee's signed an exclusive contract with Muscular Development and is currently awaiting word from the IFBB on his possible reinstatement". If things go as planned, Priest would be eligible to compete at this year's IFBB Muscular Development Atlantic City Pro on September 13th, 2008 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.Lee is currently serving out a suspension for violating an IFBB rule which forbids members from competing in other professional bodybuilding organizations. According to Lee, "Bob Cicherillo said he's finding out exactly what's necessary for me to compete again. Only time will tell." If Priest is allowed to step on stage in A.C., he says he'll enter both the Open and Under 202 class; and with a guy of his popularity in that lineup, the show will surely be one of the most anticipated events of the year.
