Dexter "The Blade" Jackson Signs with Weider Publications
2008-03-20 17:13:00 The last three weeks have been very good to Dexter Jackson . On Wednesday, things got even better when Jackson inked an exclusive contract with Weider Publications ."It's been a long time coming," Jackson said. "I really just wanted to be a part of the team. I've always wanted to be with Weider. I'm at a good point in my career right now, nearing the end of it. So I wanted to finish [the last few years] off the right way."Jackson is coming off the most successful three-week run of his nine-year professional career, notching three wins in his last three contests to start the 2008 season. Jackson started things off by winning his third IFBB Arnold Classic on March 2nd, 2008 in dominating fashion, when his combination of conditioning and newfound size - he had added seven pounds of muscle since the 2007 IFBB Mr. Olympia without sacrificing any of the trademark razor-sharp conditioning that led to his nickname, "The Blade " - had many saying the 38-year-old Jackson had never looked bett... Anabolic Steroids Caused NY Governor Spitzer to Seek Prostitute
2008-03-19 17:08:00 Anabolic steroids have been linked to New York Governor Eliott Spitzer . Steroid Nation reports that steroids caused (former) Governor Spitzer to seek the services of new millionaire escort Kristen aka Ashley Alexander Dupree.Once again, Roger Clemens and the Congressional Hearing bring the man down. Spitzer was testifying about ‘bonds’ (read ‘Bonds). Governor Spitzer became so distraught that he contracted with a ‘relaxation service’ known as the ‘Emperor’s Club’… The important thing was that as a Yankee fan, Eliot Spitzer became all stressed out about Roger Clemens’s steroids hearings performance. Further, the Governor testified about ‘bonds’. That stress led directly to Spitzer’s ‘relaxation therapy’ session with the ‘Emperor’s Club’ later than night.Of course, this is clearly intended as a joke! Unfortunately, tenuous causal relationships between anabolic steroids and other side effects are often taken seriously. We are still waiting for the med... Stanford Study: HGH May Build Muscles But Not Boost Athletic Prowess
2008-03-18 03:18:00 Human growth hormone may build muscles - but will it make you a faster, stronger and better athlete? Don't count on it, says a new Stanford University study. An analysis of more than two dozen studies of human growth hormone concludes that drug-induced muscles may look impressive - but they don't perform better. In fact, treatment may even cause impairment."What we found suggested that it didn't help - and at some point, it might hurt," said lead investigator Hau Liu, formerly of Stanford and now at San Jose's Valley Medical Center. The study was published in Monday's issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine. There are several large caveats: The studies analyzed by Stanford used doses that are probably far smaller than those taken by athletes. They weren't taken for as long. And they were not part of real-world doping regimens, which typically include steroids, insulin and other agents.Additionally, the Stanford study did not address whether human growth hormone accelerates athl... 2008-03-16 21:40:00 IFBB Chairman Mr. Jim Manion delivered a very clear and concise directive this week to all IFBB Professional Figure athletes just days after the 2008 IFBB Arnold Classic Ms. Figure International. The message…you are too big and hard.Mincing no words Manion spelled it out in clear English, "After the first figure event for 2008 the Figure International, the IFBB Professional League wants to see less muscularity and hardness in the figure competitors. The Deltoids are too big and cut and the thigh cuts are too deep. The next IFBB professional figure event is the 2008 IFBB Pittsburgh Pro Figure to be held on May 3rd, 2008 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Beginning with this event the judges will be marking down competitors with excessive hardness and muscular separation."In a brief interview IFBB Men's judging representative and veteran IFBB Head Judge Jim Rockell stated simply "I applaud him (Jim Manion) for acting swiftly and sending out the letter." Rockell is a guest on Fitness and ...

No Jenny Lynn For VPX Sports
2008-03-13 16:47:00 Days before the 2008 IFBB Arnold Classic, news was released that IFBB Ms. Figure Olympia Jenny Lynn , had just reached a sponsorship agreement with VPX Sports . She did work their booth at the 2008 Arnold Classic Expo but apparently the product endorsement agreement was not completed in full and signed by both parties. After continued negotiations Lynn's management team (JMP Management) and VPX Sports have agreed that while the company was very happy with Lynn and her efforts at the 2008 Arnold Expo booth, the company's marketing strategies surrounding Lynn are not reflective of her stature in the industry. In a statement released by JMP Management it was clear that there is no ill will or impass, its more a matter of VPX Sports not having a strategy to fully utilize all that Lynn brings to the table, "By the Wednesday after the 2008 Arnold Fitness weekend, VPX Sports stated it had reviewed the contract offer for Jenny Lynn and at this time the two would not make a good fit. Shelley Beattie Committed Suicide After Suffering from Bipolar Disorder
2008-03-12 17:40:00 Shelley Beattie was an inspiration to the deaf community, overcoming her disability to become a professional bodybuilder, a television personality and a competitive sailor."The only thing I can't do is hear," she used to say.Beattie could speak clearly, despite losing her hearing as a child after an accidental overdose of aspirin.Last month she discovered one other thing she couldn't do: live with bipolar disorder. While under a doctor's care during a six-week stay at a psychiatric hospital, she took her own life.It was a tragic ending for a young woman, just 39, who had achieved so much."If it can defeat a strong person like her," said her father, Jack Beattie of Keizer, "it can defeat almost anybody."People with bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, tend to experience extreme mood swings or episodes.Beattie once described it to her life partner, Julie Moisa, as waking up in the morning and feeling better than she had her whole life, only to be consumed by feelings o... Iris Kyle Was Not Disqualified From The 2008 Ms. International
2008-03-12 17:30:00 Flexonline.com and Bodybuilding.com all erroneously reported that IFBB Ms. Olympia Iris Kyle was disqualified from the 2008 IFBB Ms. International female bodybuilding contest in Columbus, Ohio last month. (Iris was NOT disqualified; she actually placed 7th place just out of the money.) Ruth Silverman from Iron Man Magazine fairly criticizes the Internet rumor mill.A text message from a friend wanted to know what was up with Iris being disqualified… It was reported on Bodybuilding.com and by Shawn Perine at FlexOnline…I couldn’t help marveling at the human capacity to believe something just because someone said it on the Internet - and to hear only certain key words. We humbly apologize to our readers and particularly to Iris Kyle for the misinformation. Iris Kyle appeared on Pro Bodybuilding Weekly last night to discuss the controversy surrounding her seventh place finish at the Ms. International contest. We hoped she would have insight on the reasons she was undeservedly dropp...

WWE Superstar Jeff Hardy Suspended for Drug Policy Violation
2008-03-12 01:00:00 World Wrestling Entertainment has suspended one of its most popular performers for a second violation of the company's drug policy.WWE spokesman Gary Davis says wrestler Jeff Hardy , who has headlined numerous live and pay-per-view events, has been suspended for 60 days. He would not say what drugs were involved. Davis says there have been about 30 suspensions under the WWE substance abuse and drug testing policy begun in 2006, which requires tests for steroids and other drugs. A wrestler faces a 30-day suspension without pay for a first violation, a 60-day suspension for a second violation and firing for a third violation. Performers are tested at least four times per year. Last August, WWE suspended 10 wrestlers for violations of its drug testing policy involve drug purchases, mostly human growth hormones. Jose Canseco Called “Juicer” at the 2008 Arnold Expo
2008-03-12 00:55:00 Former baseball player and anabolic steroid advocate Jose Canseco was hired as a spokesman for a supplement company appearing at the company’s booth at the 2008 Arnold Classic.Testosterone Nation reports that Canseco is working with MVP Nutrition since he spent so much time talking to world fitness champion Michele Levesque. So, you admit to using steroids. Then a supplement company hires you to say you built your muscles using their pills and powders? Um, okay. Canseco seemed to spend most of his time macking on the hired booth booty anyway. But Jose Canseco actually works for German American Technologies, makers of Jet Fuel. Oops. Perhaps, GAT should consider hiring some attractive booth help to keep Jose from straying and inadvertently promoting the competition? However, the most humorous anecdotes involving Canseco at the Arnold Classic involve the comments he received from Expo attendees ("iWitness: Arnold Sports Festival,” March 6):[B]oth at the EXPO and the after-party, peop...

IFBB Pro Bodybuilders Agree to Random Drug Testing at 2008 Arnold Classic
2008-03-06 15:49:00 It has been reported that IFBB Pro Bodybuilders who competed in the 2008 IFBB Arnold Classic were required for the first time to sign a contract subjecting them to random drug testing.Jim Lorimer, the promoter and co-founder of the Arnold Sports Festival, told male bodybuilding competitors in an athlete’s meeting that the IFBB implemented a new drug testing policy in January 2008.In previous years, IFBB Pro Bodybuilders have agreed to IFBB Professional League Rules that assert the “Pro League has power and authority to conduct drug testing at designated events.”However, Jim Lorimer confirmed last week that the IFBB will act upon that authority this year by implementing random drug testing.Jim Lorimer told the athletes that every one of the over 30 sports federations competing in the Arnold Sports Festival has a testing protocol including the International Federation of Body Builders (IFBB). Team MuscleTech Dominates the 2008 IFBB Arnold Classic
2008-03-05 18:31:00 As one massive physique after another took its position under the bright lights of the 2008 IFBB Arnold Classic stage, the floorboards of the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Columbus, Ohio creaked under the weight of the heavily muscled line-up. There was a sense that the judges were going to have their hands full on this night, as these were some of the most muscular and striated physiques since the 2007 IFBB Mr. Olympia. But even in this line-up of champions, one stood out above all the rest.Being edged out last year by the narrowest of margins for a potential three-peat, the consistently super-shredded Dexter Jackson was not to be denied this year as he stepped into the spotlight on Saturday, March 1st, winning the 2008 IFBB Arnold Classic for the third time in the last four years! Although competition was tight for the top spot, Dexter didn’t disappoint with more thick muscularity that was sliced and diced from head to toe – confirming, yet again, why they call him ‘The Bl... More articles from this author:2008-03-05 16:59:00 We heard it last night on Pro Bodybuilding Weekly, but we've heard it before. So, after hearing the rumors that eight-time IFBB Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman was seriously contemplating a return to the stage in 2009, flexonline decided to hear it from the man himself."Yeah," Coleman told FLEXONLINE.COM this afternoon, "I'll come back and probably be doing the Arnold [Classic] or something like that. Or some big European show. I’m really big in Europe and people appreciate me a whole lot over there. I'm really thinking Australia [for the Australian Grand Prix], that’s a big possibility."Coleman, who says he was weighing around 295 pounds at the 2008 IFBB Arnold Classic last weekend, said he hasn't been in the gym since October, the longest stretch of time he has taken away from training in more than 20 years.
