Richest Television Actor
2009-04-09 15:55:00 I watched Surviving Suburbia on Monday night (that?s my TMI Thursday*) starring Bob Saget. Since the show really didn?t require a lot of my attention, I started thinking Saget?s career. How much money has he made from his work on Full House, How I Met Your Mother, 1 vs. 100, America?s Funniest Home Videos and all of the syndication money that comes along with these shows? It has to be millions. So here?s my question. What actor has made the most money from only their television work? The assumption is that the actor probably appeared in at least two TV shows that went into syndication since that?s where the big money is made. DVD sales probably factor in as well. Kelsey Grammer may be the favorite based on his work on Cheers and Frasier. What about Grammer?s Cheers co-star Ted Danson for Becker? The entire cast of Friends should be in the argument, but who made the most of this group? Matt LeBlanc for Friends and Joey? What about Bill Cosby for The Cosby Show and Cosby (as ... Interview with Sarah Wendell, A Smart Bitch
2009-04-08 15:10:00 While I have interviewed an Olympic athlete and a person I thought to be a professional NFL quarterback, I have never interviewed an author. Until now that is! Sarah Wendell is the co-founder of the website Smart Bitch es, Trashy Books and co-author of Beyond Heaving Bosoms: The Smart Bitches? Guide to Romance Novels, available everywhere* on April 14th. Never did I think I would every write the phrase "Beyond Heaving Bosoms" on my blog. Anyway, I have known Sarah, a fellow Pittsburgher, since high school and her husband Adam even longer. They are great people who I know would be there for me if I ever needed anything (and I'm not just writing this because they will read this!). Plus, if I had to rate the best weddings I attended, their wedding would rank #2 behind my own. It was so cool taking a cruise and singing New York, New York by the Statue of Liberty! In addition, Adam has won our fantasy baseball league five times, while I still have no championships (though this is my ye... More About: Interview
Trivia Tuesday
2009-04-07 16:27:00 This week?s Trivia Tuesday may be the toughest ever, so I hope that you brushed up on your knowledge of food and drink products that started in the 19th century as I mentioned last Tuesday. Three products are listed below. Your challenge is to name the one that FIRST appeared in the 19th century (that would be the 1800s).1. Cocoa Puffs, Coca Cola, Popsicles2. Reddi-wip, Wonder Bread, Lipton Team3. Eskimo Pie, Canada Dry Ginger Ale, Dr. Pepper4. Campbell?s Pork and Beans, Cracker Jack, Quaker Puffed Rice5. Spam, Log Cabin Syrup, Wheaties6. Aunt Jemima Pancake Mix, Animal Crackers, Hellmann?s Real Mayonnaise7. Betty Crocker, Cream of Wheat, Kellogg?s Rice KrispiesAs always, please do not use the internet for the answers. This is also the part where I usually write that either you know it or you don?t. However, this week may be more of a guessing game. Please leave your answers in the comments section. Good luck! In case you were wondering, we amazingly got 6 of the 7 correct. Tha...
Sean's 2009 Fantasy Baseball Teams
2009-04-06 15:13:00 If you're ever going to get a flat tire, I highly recommend that it happens on I-66 Eastbound between Courthouse and Rosslyn on a late Sunday afternoon when the weather is perfect and you can maneuver your car into the shoulder on an exit ramp. Thanks to the Virginia State officer and AAA guy who were both extremely nice and arrived quickly. I wish I could write something funny here, but my tire is being fixed as I type this, and there's not much else to the story.Meanwhile, I participated in my second of two National League-only fantasy baseball league drafts this weekend and figured that I would share my results. I know that no one cares about other people's fantasy teams, so that's why I included the flat tire story above. Anyway, these are both keeper leagues which is why I have Hanley Ramirez at $19.Here is my roster in the league I really, really care about (this is the 19th year of the league and my 18th season in it; I have never finished in 1st):Bengie Molina C SF $10 ... Post About Nothing
2009-04-03 15:39:00 It?s been a fairly weak week here at Sean?s Ramblings. No Trivia Tuesday or TMI Thursday; just my thoughts about the Pitt-Villanova game and my plea for advice in buying a new computer. (I'm still looking for suggestions if you have any.) Actually, the soccer coach story was fascinating, so this week wasn?t a total loss. Anyway, I have the following random items and thoughts that I'd like to share:- The next time you?re at a grocery store, do me a favor and see if they have Swiss Miss butterscotch pudding. I love this pudding but haven?t had any or even seen any in years. If you happen to find it, send me an e-mail or leave a comment. Thank you.- I have spent much of my free time over the past week or so focusing on my fantasy baseball league. Unfortunately, I still don?t feel prepared for this weekend?s draft.- I don?t understand the appeal of Twitter. - Here?s a trivia question for you. I am currently wearing a 2006 Final Four T-shirt which includes the logos of all fou... More About: Post
Crazy Soccer Coach
2009-04-02 15:53:00 Since the spring soccer season has started and I am back to being a referee again, I figured I would share this story of soccer coach Michael Kinahan of Scituate, Mass. who coached the 6- and 7-year-old girls team "Green Death." (Courtesy of Deadspin.)Here are some highlights in the introductory e-mail to the parents:Unless there is an issue concerning the health of my players or inside info on the opposition, you probably don?t need to talk to me.Want more? But it is imperative that we all fight the good fight, get involved now and resist the urge to become sweat-xedo-wearing yuppies who sit on the sidelines in their LL Bean chairs sipping mocha-latte-half-caf-chinos while discussing reality TV and home decorating with other feeble-minded folks. I want to hear cheering, I want to hear encouragement, I want to get the team pumped up at each and every game and know they are playing for something.A little more?Don?t animals eat what they kill (and yes, someone actually kills the meat w... New Computer Advice Needed
2009-04-01 15:18:00 I?m writing this on Tuesday night since my computer is going to be one of many to explode on Wednesday from the Conficker worm.* Should be fun! Hopefully, the world isn?t going to end and you?re able to read this. Regardless of what happens/happened, my computer has had some type of problem for several months and is D-U-N, done (or close to being done). So I?m about to start a search for a new computer, and I need your help. My requirements are pretty simple:- The internet (self-explanatory) - Word so that I can type my blog posts and see what I misspelled- Excel to help prepare for fantasy baseball and football drafts (although I haven?t used it yet this year)- Whatever program you need to download pictures from a digital camera. I have no idea how this works. I take pictures and somehow my wife magically gets them from the camera to the computer.- iTunes. I don?t use this either but my wife has an iPod.That?s all I ever do on the computer. I?d also like to be able to watc... More About: Advice , Computer
No Trivia Tuesday
2009-03-31 18:33:00 Have you ever had a song stuck in your head that you couldn?t get rid of? This happens to me occasionally, but one particular song has been stuck there for days. More on this momentarily. So, I apologize for the lack of Trivia Tuesday this week, but I have a very good reason. We tried something new last week and went to music trivia at Black Finn in Bethesda. The idea was terrific; they have three rounds of 12 songs each, play about 30-45 seconds of a song and you need to provide the artist and song title. However, the execution was poor. There are certain fundamental requirements in a trivia game. You need to be told the correct answers after it's over. You need to be told how well or poorly you did. And you need to be told how close you came to winning. Music trivia failed on all three accounts. The only thing they did was actually have questions, but for all we know, the thing was fixed. After the first round, we were handed back our answer sheet and told that we won....
Pitt Falls To Villanova
2009-03-30 16:16:00 I really want to be upset or disappointed about Pitt ?s loss to Villanova in the Elite Eight on Saturday night, but I can?t. I guess you could say that if Pitt made one more free throw, allowed one less offensive rebound, or turned the ball over one less time, they would have won. Well sure, but to use an expression that I hate, it is what it is.* Pitt and Villanova are both great teams and played an amazing game. Villanova has as balanced a team there is in the country and deserves its spot in the Final Four. Plus, after seeing how poorly top teams Oklahoma and Louisville played on Sunday, I feel even better about Pitt?s performance. Levance Fields, Sam Young and DeJuan Blair all had terrific seasons, and the team as a whole deserves credit for accomplishments that no other Pitt team has achieved. I should also add another reason why I?m not too upset about Pitt?s loss. I talked to a woman on Friday whose kids went to high school with Scottie Reynolds. She was rooting for V... Notes From Bradenton
2009-03-27 13:40:00 Before I write about my trip to Pirates' Spring Training, Don of Mondesi's House deserves props for writing this last week:In a way, Fields has a bit of Ben Roethlisberger in him, in that he always seems to save his best for last. If ever I see Fields lining up a three-pointer with, say, three minutes or less, I'm going to say that's probably a high-percentage shot.Don proved prophetic as Levance did it again Thursday night in leading the Panthers over Xavier. Go Pitt!Anyway,I have talked about attending Spring Training for many years, but this week, I finally made it to Bradenton, Florida to see the Pittsburgh Pirates in action. Here are notes and pictures from my trip:I arrived at the Bradenton/Sarasota airport from Washington via Atlanta (and my favorite airport) and went directly to McKechnie Field in time to see the Pirates warm-up.This is Pirates super-prospect Andrew McCutchen (the guy with a bag on his shoulder) along with Pirate great Bill Virdon on the left.Ian Snell ... Vote for Caitlin & Nick
2009-03-26 21:15:00 I have never met Caitlin King and Nick Rossmann, who are friends of a friend, and are one of the 10 semi-finalists for Northern Virginia Magazine's Best Engagement Story contest. However, they have a cool engagement story (see below), so I thought I would do my part to encourage you to vote for them. Voting ends promptly at noon Eastern time on Friday, March 27.Here's the story for all of you romantics out there:On a brisk December evening, Nick asked Caitlin to meet him at the museum of news in Washington, D.C. to go to his work?s holiday party. There is a glass display of newspapers from all 50 states outside the building. Nick had created a special edition of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and inconspicuously posted it on the display over another newspaper. He knew this place was especially meaningful to Caitlin, because she is a journalist and used to walk past the Newseum every night on her way home from work while it was being constructed ? just to read the headlines. When Caitl... TMI Thursday: Another List
2009-03-26 15:18:00 Last month, I completed the Facebook list of 25 Random Things About Me. Since I had nearly two hours to kill at the airport on Tuesday, here?s part two:1. I am going to grow a moustache in November. I?m excited about this.2. I just returned from Florida on Tuesday night and am already getting antsy because I have no trips planned.3. Some people have to have a cup of coffee every morning; I need to have a glass of orange juice.4. I have a terrible habit of biting my fingernails. It?s probably ruining my teeth, but I have no plans of stopping.5. It may not happen for another 10 years, but I?m going to have surgery on my knee someday. I have discomfort in my left knee way too often.6. I don?t ever want another job where I need to wear a tie everyday. I am happy that my current job does not have the tie requirement.7. Steelers to Loose Super Bowl Trophies
2009-03-25 20:46:00 Yes, this was the subject of an e-mail that was forwarded to me. Not lose, but loose. It only gets worse from there. The Super Bowl XLIII Champion Pittsburgh Steelers , the only team to win six titles, will soon be loosing half of those trophies. After a meeting between NFL Commissioner Rodger Gadel (Sean's note: Rodger Gadel? Really?) and President Barack Hussain Obama, Obama decided to redistribute half of their Steeler Super Bowl victories and trophies to less fortunate teams in the league."We live everyday in the country that invented the Super Bowl." said Obama "We are not about to lose this Great American tradition in the wake of these difficult times." Obama?s plan calls for the Steelers, who are a successful NFL team, to give half of their Super Bowl trophies to teams that are not successful or have not been as successful as the Steelers. "The Detroit Loins are just as much a part of the same fiber of the NFL as the Steelers and they should, no rather will, be entitled to a... More About: Barack Obama , Montreal Canadiens

2009-03-25 15:40:00 Here is a picture of Franco Harris and me from last Monday's screening of My Tale of Two Cities:You'll just have to guess which one is Franco and which one is me!Since Franco was nice enough to take this picture, the least I could do is promote the Pittsburgh Promise, a scholarship program to help all Pittsburgh Public School students plan, prepare, and pay for education beyond high school at an accredited post-secondary institution within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Harris serves as the Chairman of the Pittsburgh Promise's Board of Directors. As a programming note, TMI Thursday will return tomorrow (Thursday; imagine that!), and I hope to have a recap, including pictures, of my trip to Bradenton for the Pirates' Spring Training on Friday.
Random Question of the Day
2009-03-24 13:56:00 Since I am currently in Florida, there will not be Trivia Tuesday today. Sorry. Instead, I have a question for any fan of music from the late 1980s/early 1990s that was posed to me by WahooJ. Why does the song "Epic" by Faith No More (featuring the chorus "You want it all, but you can't have it.") still receive regular radio airplay while comparable song, "Everything About You" by Ugly Kid Joe (chorus: "I hate everything about you.") does not? I have a theory, but I'd like to see what you think... More About: Question , Random
Spring Training Question
2009-03-20 14:53:00 We?re in the middle of the NCAA Tournament?s first round with Pitt and Robert Morris both playing today and the Penguins are continuing their hot streak trying to make the NHL playoffs. So today seems to be a perfect time to write about the Pittsburgh Pirates ! I?m heading to Bradenton, Florida on Sunday for my first ever Spring Training , and I figured I would ask a few people what I should look for while I?m there. Here are some serious and not-so-serious responses:Nick of Decibel Magazine and of the defunct McClendon's Folly:Dejan Kovacevic has suggested that the Pirates may open the season with Craig Monroe in RF and Erik Hinske in LF. I seem to recall that Monroe is a below-average defender and Hinske is on a one year deal. Add in Nyjer Morgan and the Pirates could have one of the worst starting outfields in the major leagues. With Brandon Moss' ongoing injury woes and Tabata reassigned to the minors, is there any hope for this outfield? Also: is there anywhere in Bradenton ... More About: Question
TMI Thursday: My First Kiss
2009-03-19 14:07:00 Discussing my bathroom habits and embarrassing myself by admitting that I enjoy certain songs and television shows in my previous TMI Thursday s has not been difficult to share. This post is a little different, as prior to last week, I never admitted this to anyone. I think I?m setting up unrealistic expectations for what I?m about to reveal, but I guess that?s up to you.Let?s go back in time to homecoming during my sophomore year of high school. I asked a beautiful girl to the dance, and amazingly, she said yes. Prior to the dance I watched a television show in which the main character attended a high school dance and contemplated making a move on his date. The character told his friend his plan that during a slow song when the time was right, he would either lick, nuzzle, or breathe heavily on his date?s ear (or something like that). I don?t remember the actual move, but it?s not as disturbing as it sounds (I hope). Anyway, the character hypothesized that if his date did no... More About: Kiss , Neil Patrick Harris
Random Question of the Day
2009-03-18 14:51:00 How do you pronounce the word salmon? I have always said sam-uhn, but over the past few days, I have heard several people pronounce the word as sal-mon. The "L" is silent, right (or am I wrong)? As a tangent, we took an Alaskan cruise for our honeymoon and went to a salmon hatchery and saw the amazing work done to help breed and increase the salmon population. Then, we went to a salmon bake and had some of the best salmon I've ever tasted with a brown sugar and honey sauce (if I remember correctly). In retrospect, maybe the cruise line shouldn't organize these two events in tandem. This post sounds like something Lemmonex would write except that I'm not including any recipes!Look for a very special TMI Thursday tomorrow! Each of you have had great seasons and deserve your spot in the field of 65. You may be wondering, well thanks random guy for the note, but who are you? Well, my name is Sean, and I am a college basketball fan as well as an amazing* blogger. Twice in my life, I have had the opportunity to attend the men?s NCAA tournament, first in 1997 and again in 2008. In 1997, I watched the #15 seed Coppin State University defeat the second-seeded University of South Carolina at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh. Last year, I was present for the amazing game between #2 Duke University and #15 Belmont University at the Verizon Center in Washington. Fleetwood Mac Concert Review
2009-03-13 14:50:00 To quote Mick Fleetwood from Tuesday night?s concert at the Verizon Center in Washington, "The Mac is back!" While I agree with him, he or Lindsey Buckingham could have said this at the beginning of the show instead of when they exited the stage. Before I write about the concert, I want to start with the fact that Fleetwood Mac is a fascinating group. There?s the Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green from the late 60s/early 70s and then the one with huge mainstream success with Stevie Nicks and Buckingham. Between Nicks, Buckingham and Christine McVie, who unfortunately is not on the tour, I can?t think of another band with three different lead singers and songwriters. (I?m not counting a group like Destiny?s Child where all three singers have their own verse of a song. A Christine McVie song is completely different than a Stevie Nicks song which is completely different than a Lindsey Buckingham song.) I do want to address some of the comments that took place during the championship round. Certainly not everyone has to like everyone else?s blog or the comments on the blogs. However, there is no reason to disparage the blogs themselves simply because of the amount of time the bloggers spend writing for your enjoyment and to express their own thoughts. As for the two finalists, The Pensblog is the most influential blog in Pittsburgh and has the most passionate following. WWGRD was everywhere last year, and each Penguins game post on The Pensblog receives hundreds of comments. TMI Thursday: Janet Jackson Is Jealous
More articles from this author:2009-03-05 15:17:00 I apologize for not writing a TMI Thursday post recently, and I can?t even take credit for this one. I was in warm and sunny Orlando last week for work when I received a call from my wife. She said that she noticed several circular rashes on our kitten?s stomach. We didn?t see anything like this on Ziggy before, so she scheduled a vet appointment. We also never witnessed Ziggy scratching or biting his stomach, but the appointment was made as a precaution. So my wife took Ziggy to his appointment and mentioned to the vet that maybe it was a spider bite or something else. The vet took a look at Ziggy?s spotted belly and said, "Your cat has nipples." He continued by saying, "Your husband is coming home. Make him a nice dinner* and break the news to him that your kitten has nipples." Who even knew that male cats had nipples? Actually, this guy did:Apparently, the vet receives this question much more often that you would think, nearly once a month. So the end result is the Zig...
