F1-ToGo 2008 F1 Season Preview Part 1
2008-03-08 20:37:00 Well, here’s my first in a series of posts on the 2008 F1 season. Pre-season testing has been interesting and exciting at times, and with all the usual ups and downs. Gathering a lot of insight through testing is minimal, but in the end, we have a pretty good general picture. Ferrari came out ... 2008-03-05 19:16:00 Honda is in trouble and Ross Brawn has his work cut out for him. No question about that. Super Aguri - We’ll Make it to Australia
2008-02-29 16:11:00 It’s been along road for Super Aguri and I have to admit, I wasn’t sure they would make the grid in Australia , but today we here from Co-owner Fumio Akita that Super Aguri will take to the grid in Australia. Talk about last minute. When Super Aguri missed the last organized test session in Barcelona, things didn’t look to good, but Akita says it was all about parts. “The cancellation was because some parts hadn’t arrived in time.” “We are usually scrambling to be ready for the start of the season. “It was very tight last year and this year is following the same pattern. “But we will be on the grid for Melbourne. “We’re not worried at all about missing out.” This year is still pretty tight with finances and Honda are not in a position to support Super Aguri with Honda technology as they may have if they themselves weren’t struggling. It really is quite impressive how this team continues to fight. A seriou... More About: Make
Bernie Ecclestone: Quote of the Day
2008-02-28 16:46:00 Now’s the time to get a bit silly I guess and the first to enter is Bernie Ecclestone . Well, actually he is silly a lot of the time, and today reaffirms this although it is kind of funny. Ecclestone has considered Kimi Raikkonen a ‘bore’ in the past. Ahh, I can see a little bit why he may think that. He doesn’t smile a lot, appears serious all the time, and his post race interviews are not the stuff for good television, but according to Ecclestone, Raikkonen is a lot of fun when he’s a little drunk. “Every time I’ve been out to dinner with him, he has been as good as gold.” “And he’s even better when he’s pissed.” “There’s nothing wrong with that. He doesn’t embarrass people to the extent they say: ‘My God, he shouldn’t be doing that’. I think I’ll be calling a few good restaurants and see if Kimi will join me. Force India on the Move
2008-02-27 16:37:00 Force India is continuing to impress just about everybody. Yesterday’s superb times are certainly turning some heads. By mid day today, Giancarlo Fisichella has already turned in a 1:22.233 in 34 laps. The constant improvement they have had in testing has them now believing Q2 is a definite possibility. You don’t have to convince me of that and they have more improvements planned for the Australian Grand Prix. Adrian Sutil who initially was skeptical about their chances is now not holding back his pleasure in driving then new car and their chances this year. “The new car has improved, that is for sure,” he said. “The first day was quite good in my opinion. The entrance into corners, the stability, is better. And it is easier to drive. “So there is more coming, perhaps three to four tenths for the Melbourne Grand Prix. So I think it is quite a good update and I am very confident to be competitive in Australia.” “If we do that, then w... More About: Force , Move , Force India
What the drivers have to say
2008-02-26 15:46:00 As we get closer to the new season, some drivers are begining to make their own predictions or maybe just testing reactions. First to Fernando Alonso who says BMW-Sauber may actually be closer to McLaren then everyone thinks they are. He also goes on to say Renault will have no chance of a podium in Australia and may not even make Q3. “Just two or three weeks ago BMW was a little further back, we were near them. Now they are quite close to McLaren.” “They are very fast.” “They always use full tanks and record very good times.” Jarno Trulli came out by predicting a Ferrari dominance when he suggested the F2008 is so quick that officials could hand the team the championship before the season even starts. “If you have an advantage of five tenths already at the beginning, and then you continue to build on that, it will be very difficult for the others.” Since then he has tempered his prediction a little but still says Ferrari are the dominant team. Day 1 Barcelona Test Notes and Times
2008-02-25 20:43:00 After the circuit dried out, Honda took advantage and ran full race distance testing, but ended up with the usual results. McLaren opted for practicing pit stop procedures during wet track times in the morning and in the afternoon made final evaluations of new components and fine tune set ups in anticipation of the start of the season. Red Bull Racing drivers David Coulthard and Mark Webber focused on their mechanical setup, brake development, and general pre-race work. More new parts will be added for testing tomorrow. Sebastian Vettel was the lone Toro Rosso driver doing some long runs on extreme wet tires and standard wet tires. In the afternoon he attempted a complete race simulation but a mechanical problem ended that. Force India debuted 2 of their VJM01 cars today with Tonio Liuzzi and Adrian Sutil driving. Shakedown was the main focus with understanding the behavior of the new aero package. Both Tonio Liuzzi and Adrian Sutil posted pretty respectable times in the new car ... Super Aguri a No Show Again
2008-02-18 17:20:00 This has been a dreadful time for Super Aguri with seemingly no end in sight. Last week they pulled out of this week’s test session at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya with only ‘circumstances beyond our control’, but did say they would have a media question and answer session instead. Financial issues with sponsors and driver contracts are burdening this team and although they seem upbeat, it’s almost too much. Questions about the team’s future in F1 are always circulating, but last week when asked about the possibility of folding the team, Suzuki remained adamantly against it. Now, the media Q&A they scheduled in Spain with Aguri Suzuki and his technical director Mark Preston has also been called off again with no public answer as to why. This could be good news and they’re not ready to talk about it, or more bad news, but at this late date, and only one test session, this season is a lost cause. With the never ending struggles this team i... More About: Show , Super Aguri
