Adebayor rumours were always going to be rubbish
2008-06-07 09:02:00
Today sees the first match of Euro 2008 being played between Switzerland and Czech Republic and a second game between Portugal and Turkey. It should be an excellent night of football. For the record, I’m expecting the hosts to snatch a point off a talented Czech side and the Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portuguese side to beat ...

The Arsenal FC Blog?s Euro 2008 Preview
2008-06-06 09:00:00
The football world turns its head towards Austria and Switzerland tomorrow as Euro 2008 finally kicks off. I think it’s going to be an outstanding tournament. While nothing can beat the World Cup for spectacle and colour the European Championships has a tendency to produce a better quality of football and matches in general. This latest edition should be ...

Arsenal bid for Zapata - Everton to nick Ramsay? - Ljungberg still an angel
2008-06-05 09:49:00
I love Fredrik Ljungberg. Always have, always will. Maybe not as much as this guy (get ready to laugh) - but I still love him and nothing that he says or does in the future will change that. While Dennis Bergkamp was the player who got me to start watchin Arsenal , Ljungberg was the man who really ...

2008-06-04 09:08:00
If there is ever an indication that things are quiet in the world of Arsenal it is when Arseblogger has nothing to talk about. And while that happened to be the case yesterday, thankfully he was able to pull out this gem of a post. Kudos to you Arseblogger, you crazy Irish bastard. As for today, things ...

Hahah, I knew you’d get it. *sigh* Sorry about that. In ...

Hello there. Hope you’re doing well. It’s been pouring all weekend in Brisbane - a nice change from all the sunshine we had been having I have to say. Euro 2008 starts in five days and although Australia obviously won’t be featuring I have to say I’m getting pretty excited. I’ve got my Setanta Sports subscription all sorted ...

A couple of questions for you to ponder on a quiet day for Arsenal
2008-05-30 09:32:00
Well, there’s absolutely nothing to report today so I thought I’d to use this post to throw out a couple of questions: Which team do you want to win Euro 2008 and why? Which single player do you want Arsenal to sign this off season and why? I’ll leave you to talk amongst yourselves. For the record, I’ll be ...

Hleb?s Arsenal U-turn is just clever word play
2008-05-29 09:54:00
It’s been surprisingly rainy in Brisbane today but despite that I’ve had a quite a decent day. I hope you have had one or are going to have one too. Kicking things off today are some confusing comments from Alex Hleb about his proposed transfer to Real Madrid/Barcelona/Inter Milan/No-one Really Cares FC. The Belarussian has come ...

2008-05-28 09:47:00
First things first today I just want to say a big ‘thank-you’ to all the Aussie Arsenal supporters who left their comments on yesterday’s post - they were most appreciated. Cheers also to the other supporters around the world who left their thoughts as well. It’s amazing to think this blog has readers from Mexico, France , Switzerland and South Africa (to name but a few) as well as virtually every major city - and some not so major - in Australia. The idea to develop some sort of a pub community in Australia via the blog seems to be something that a lot of you want to get involved in and as such I will pursue the potential with the folks at Arsenal Australia. I’ll let you know how things progress. Moving on now and virtually all of the Arsenal news around the place at the moment relates to Euro 2008. The tournament kicks off in just over ten days and with a multitude of Arsenal players on show in Switzerland and Austria it will be essential vie...

Calling all Australian Arsenal supporters
2008-05-27 09:15:00
No news to speak of today so I thought I’d set you, the regular readers of the Arsenal FC Blog with a little homework task. For those that aren’t aware - and I’m sure there are quite a few of you - despite being an Arsenal supporter I am a born and bred Australian who resides in Brisbane. See for yourself. The reason for telling you this is that I am very interested in promoting the community of Arsenal supporters in Australia through this very blog. There are a undoubtedly a lot of great Arsenal blogs on the internet - Arseblog, Gunnerblog, Goodplaya, The Cannon, A Cultured Left Foot to name just a few - but to my knowledge the Arsenal FC Blog is the only blog from Australia that is consistently updated and has a reasonable readership. Taking this into account I see quite a good opportunity to use this blog to promote the Arsenal community in Australia. For those that aren’t aware, there is an official Arsenal Australia community that does a similar thin...

Nasri surely set to replace Hleb at Arsenal
2008-05-26 08:47:00
With the official confirmation on Saturday that Alexandr Hleb will be leaving Arsenal and the almost official confirmation on Sunday that Samir Nasri will be joining the club, it’s been quite an interesting weekend for Arsenal supporters. I could go on and on about how much I think Hleb’s agent has acted like a twat over this ...
Nasri?s agent causing trouble - Vela confirmed - no more excuses
2008-05-22 09:34:00
Just a quick post today with little going on in the world of Arsenal. Everything seems to be focused on Manchester United’s Champions League win and at the end of the day I guess that’s fair enough. Quite a good game too by the way. Somewhat predictably, the transfer of Samir Nasri from Marseille to Arsenal ...

According to the French newspaper L’Equipe, Marseille’s Samir Nasri will be an Arsenal player by the end of today. The word on the street is that Nasri will arrive in London early this morning (Wednesday) with the intention of undergoing a medical and signing on at Arsenal for a fee worth something around ?12.5m. It seems Samir Nasri is all but an Arsenal player
2008-05-20 09:18:00
According to virtually every website and online newspaper around, Marseille’s Samir Nasri is all set to sign for Arsenal . The 20-year-old French attacker looks like he will be leaving Marseille to join Arsenal for a transfer fee worth around £13.5m. I’m usually quite careful not to make unrealistic statements about players joining or leaving the club until ...

Thoughts on Arsenal?s win over Sunderland + some interesting transfer news
2008-05-13 09:21:00
On a day when Manchester United claimed a - I’m cringing as I say this - deserved tenth Premiership crown Arsenal ’s youngsters did their club proud by securing a 1-0 win against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Whilst I did not see get to see the game, something which seemed consistent among the Arsenal blogging community due ...

Hleb to go - Bendtner turns down Germany?s finest
2008-05-09 08:32:00
Before I get onto the bad news, I firstly want to say ’thanks’ to everyone who commented yesterday on the article about Arsene Wenger’s transfer plans. It was so refreshing to see everyone put some thought into their recommendations and refrain from pleading for every Ronaldinho, Kaka or Lionel Messi in the world. Great stuff. Now, onto the bad ...

Wenger outlines transfer plans - how about Diego and Metzelder?
2008-05-08 09:52:00
Those of you who read yesterday’s post will know that I commented that Inter Milan are in an advantageous position to steal Alex Hleb from Arsenal due to the fact that they can very easily buy out the final two years of the Belarussian’s contract via the ‘Webster clause’. According to Arsene Wenger , however, it seems ...

2008-05-07 10:13:00
Things are starting to get a little wobbly. The official announcement of Mathieu Flamini’s departure to AC Milan has been followed by the growing rumours that Alexander Hleb is set to follow him out the door to sign for Milan’s bitter rivals Inter. Although there have been no concrete evidence of a move being made for ...

Flamini?s Milan move leaves Wenger with a real challenge to replace him
2008-05-06 09:19:00
It’s official: Mathieu Flamini is an Arsenal player no more. It was revealed earlier today that the Frenchman has passed his medical and signed a four-year deal with AC Milan worth around ?5.6million per year. The Italians are of course able to pay Flamini such an extensive amount due to the fact that the Frenchman’s contract with Arsenal ...

Crazy Jens says goodbye - Flamini set to go - Makoun to replace him?
2008-05-05 13:49:00
It was never going to be a classic game given the dead-rubber nature of the contest from an Arsenal perspective but there were enough nice moments to give the home fans a decent show in the final game of the season at Emirates Stadium. For those who missed it, Nicklas Bendtner scored the only goal of ...

If one wins the double the other wins exactly as much as Arsenal
2008-05-01 09:42:00
So there you have it. Not only will Manchester United or Chelsea be winning the English Premiership this season but one of them will be winning the Champions League as well. One word comes to mind: ‘greedy’. Seriously though, it’s incredible how close either side are to achieving the coveted League-Champions League double given how difficult ...

My final plea to Flamini + Dimitrov to sign?
2008-04-30 09:45:00
Six goals scored, two conceded and all-in-all it was a stroll in Pride Park for the Arsenal boys against Derby. So much of a stroll that I can’t really be bothered talking about it, so I won’t. What I will talk about is how wonderful it is for the club to still be in with a chance of ...

Arsenal v Liverpool III: Incredible ecstacy followed by immense disappointm
2008-04-09 13:01:00
The history books will say that on the 8th of April, 2008 Liverpool beat Arsenal 4-2 at Anfield to win a two-legged Champions League quarter-final affair 5-3 on aggregate. However, the scoreline does not reflect just how close Arsenal were to going through themselves on an unbelievably exciting night of football. The key moments came during the ...

2008-04-08 14:42:00
Today’s Champions League game against Liverpool at Anfield is the be all and end all for Arsenal ’s season as far as I’m concerned. Should they succeed then Arsene Wenger’s side will be just three games away from being crowned Champions of Europe, should they fail then the season is finally over and the silverware cabinet will be empty for the fourth season running. The players must realise this and respond accordingly. It’s clear that there have been some tired legs running around on the pitch of late and guys like Cesc Fabregas and Mathieu Flamini have been worked well beyond their call of duty. But if the boys are too avoid the possibility of ending the season without a trophy then they are going to have to ignore the aches and pains in their bodies and give it absolutely everything against Liverpool tonight. Tactics will play their part for sure, but the single most important factor in determining whether or not Arsenal succeed tonight will be the...

Arsenal boys must give it absolutely everything on Tuesday night
2008-04-07 12:24:00
After the weekend just gone it feels a bit funny to be blogging today. As I said yesterday after the draw with Liverpool, the Premiership is now gone for Arsenal - a reality made worse by the fact that Manchester United dropped points for the first time in a number of games last night against Middlesbrough. Had Arsenal found a winning goal on Saturday then Arsene Wenger’s side would be just four points off the top and right back in it, so it’s all a little frustrating at the moment. But while I have 99.99% given up on Arsenal chances of winning the league it’s fairly unsurprising to hear that the manager has not. Speaking in the post-match interview after the Liverpool game, Wenger was clearly frustrated by his side’s inability to get the three points but also stressed that he will not be giving up until winning becomes a mathematical impossibility. “It depends on the results of the other teams. In my brain it’s not over because mathematical...
