Eric Berry is one of the best DBs in the nation
2007-12-07 07:00:00 Back in July I did a post on "Freshman of '07". I stated Eric Berry , freshman FS for Tennessee, as a freshman to watch; here is what I said in that article about him:"With only one returning starter in the Vols secondary back, expect Eric Berry to start from day one. He is the best cover corner in this years class and could easily be one of the top DB's in the SEC by the end of the season. You heard it at "The Sports Flow" first."Although, I did get one part wrong, he isn't starting at corner for Tennessee, he's starting at safety. And he isn't one of the best DBs in the SEC, he's one of the best in the nation. But from my observation, Eric Berry has been a huge reason as to why Tennessee's inexperienced defense was pretty successful this season. He is a pure talent, he can read the QB so well, he is amazing back in coverage, and can even make the big hit. He just has a knack for the ball. Reminds me a lot of a Brian Dawkins in his prime.Berry has been such a stud coming up ... More About: Nation , Tennessee Volunteers , The Nation
Thanks for a Reason to Care
2007-12-05 00:44:00 Last Monday's game between the Ravens and the Patriots was a great game. The Ravens did fall short (by about 2 yards) but they made me care. I'll be honest, aside from watching the Packers play every week I don't really care about the NFL regular season like I should. I just get sick of seeing the Patriots on every single Sunday and Monday night games, but if nothing else Monday's game made me care.I found myself sitting on my futon rooting for the Ravens to win. Which was weird because I thought that I didn't care. I realized that I don't really want the Patriots to go undefeated. I'm not sure why, but I just don't. However, I do really believe that they will go undefeated, although their best shot at a loss is going to be at home against the Steelers this weekend. As far as the game goes I admit, I only tuned in for the 4th quarter, but it was well worth my time. I was very impressed with Tom Brady. He was cool, calm, and collected and I really liked how he scrambled to pic... More About: New England Patriots , Care , Baltimore Ravens , Reason
Searching for Answers: Sick of the Nickname Controversy
2007-12-04 08:45:00 Earlier Grittysquirrels did a post on this. He is obviously for the nickname as he attends the University of North Dakota. Me? Well I was against it for numerous reasons, but recently I read a letter to the editor in the Bismarck Tribune about the issue; it shed some new light for me and now I am neutral on the whole issue of Native American Mascots.I am getting really sick of this dispute between all of the schools and the NCAA. We're going to be hearing about this for a long, long time, even after UND has to change their name, that's if they do to say the least. Here's the link to the letter written to the Trib:UND name issue is not an issueThe letter is written by Mr. Mato Iyotaka, a member of the Standing Rock Tribe in south central North Dakota. He brings up some valid points and some interesting remarks:"I am also proud to say that I am a Native American, but to hear so many people making this Fighting Sioux nickname an issue makes me wonder what's really going on. BCS Bowl Thoughts
2007-12-03 06:21:00 The BCS Bowl Matchups were announced today and I would just like to give some insight and thoughts about it.BCS National Title GameThe title game is LSU vs. Ohio St. This is who I predicted it was going to be after yesterdays games. Ohio St. is the most deserving, yes they don't have the toughest schedule out there but from watching them this year they are a great team. Their offense is pretty explosive and they have one of the best defenses in the country. I really think LSU deserves it as well, they played a very tough schedule and won their conference. They had big wins over Virginia Tech, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, and South Carolina. This is a perfect opportunity for OSU to avenge their BCS Title loss to Florida last year. All they're going to hear from now till the game is how they won't be able to match up with LSU and their speed. I think because of their loss last year, the Buckeyes will be very prepared for LSU come January 7.Hawaii vs. GeorgiaFirst off, I am glad to se... More About: Thoughts
What an offseason
2007-12-01 00:39:00 Hey TSF readers, I am back to lay some more baseball insight into this fine fine blog. Back in July I wrote a post judging the trade deadline deals, and I'm back to look at what has gone on this offseason so far, and what could potentially take place.Santana ManiaWe all know that the best pitcher to throw a baseball since Roger Clemens was in his prime is on the market, but where will Johan Santana end up? This whole situation is about to get very interesting, because not only are the Red Sox and Yankees the only realistic options out there, but no one knows if they're actually trying to trade for Johan or just jacking up the price for the other team.I say that the Yankees and Sox are the only real contenders because unlike anyone else on the current trade market, Johan Santana controls his own destiny. He can veto a trade if the team the Twins agree to terms with doesn't give him the extension he wants (rumored at around 23-25 million per year for 5-6 years). This makes this... R.I.P Sean Taylor (1983-2007)
2007-11-27 18:35:00 Today was going to be a "Happy Youtube Tuesday", however given the circumstances I feel it only right that I pay tribute to Sean Taylor .Pro Bowl safety Sean Taylor died Tuesday after he was shot in his home by an apparent intruder, leaving everybody, including myself in shock. The 24-year-old player died at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he had been airlifted after the shooting early Monday. Taylor, the fifth overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft following an All-American season at the University of Miami, was shot early Monday in the upper leg, damaging the key femoral artery and causing significant blood loss.I would first like to send out my deepest condolences to the Taylor family, the Washington Redskins, and the Miami Hurricanes. Most people know Sean as the flamboyant, hard-hitting, fine-gathering player he was in his first 3 or 4 years in the league. What many people don't realize is that he is also a father of a 1 year old baby girl named Jackie, and a maturing man and emer...
Here comes Texas
2007-11-26 07:06:00 The Texas Longhorns basketball team is picking up where it left off last season, without Kevin Durant.Texas has started the 2007-2008 season strong and fast, rattling off 5 impressive wins thus far, with the most impressive win coming against the 7th ranked Tennessee Volunteers Saturday night, 97-78.Their first win was against lowly Texas-San Antonio, but after that they've shown they're indeed a force to be reckoned with again in the Big XII. They then beat UC-Davis 73-42 with Jr. guard A.J. Abrams shooting 9-15 from the field and finishing with 21 points. Abrams decided to put on another show, putting up 30 on Arkansas-Monticello while going 8-12 from three point land. Then after going up against a decent New Mexico St. team, Abrams put down 31 and went 9-12 from behind the arc, while sophomore sensation D.J. Augustin piled up 25 of his own.Yes, you can say those teams weren't very formidable opponents, but Texas shot over 54% in 3 of those games and their defense clamped down ...

TSF Heisman Watch
2007-11-19 23:29:00 This has been anything but the standard Heisman Race. I'd like to weigh in quickly with what has become increasingly obvious to me over the last few weeks.Coming into the week I really liked Dennis Dixon to win. I even watched this commercial profusely taking great entertainment from it:With my top candidate Dennis Dixon out of contention, how many legitimate players are out there that can satisfy that general voter urge to choose a contender from a highly-ranked squad? Here's what I see:I'm reluctant to say it but i see Time Tebow as the front-runner to win the Heisman right now...even with 3 losses! In the midst of a roller-coaster ride of a season I think voters are just starting to warm up to the idea of the underclassman winning it with 3 losses. Tebow is set to go down with Archie Griffin in Heisman lore. That's good for Tebow, good for the Heisman and good for college football. If he wins I don't think that automatically means that we'll start seeing underclassmen win i... More About: Watch , Heisman Trophy

Not the "BS" Standings this week
2007-11-15 23:08:00 As I look at the current BCS Standings this week, I can't really disagree. It seems pretty accurate to me.Here's the current standings Top Ten for this past week: 1. LSU2. Oregon3. Kansas4. Oklahoma5. Missouri6. West Virginia7. Ohio St.8. Arizona St.9. Georgia10. Virginia TechIn my eyes, LSU is the best team in the country, they are the most talented and have gone through their tough schedule nearly unblemished, with just one loss coming at a good Kentucky team.As for Oregon they've played great as well and to me, are the 2nd best team in the land. The Ducks have had some pretty good wins as well in the 2nd best conference in the country (Pac 10) over USC, at Washington, and Arizona St. Their lone loss came against Cal and lost by about a foot.As for Kansas, they are where they belong. I am not ready to put them in the top two, first of all when you play Central Michigan, SE Louisiana, Toledo, Florida International, and Baylor you're not going to get much props from me. Go out a... Alex Rodriguez - 3BWho else did you think was going to be first? Expect to see a really high number wherever he lands as A-Rod's price tag reportedly starts at 10 years, $350 million.Predicted Destination: Dodgers, Giants, Angels2. Jorge Posada - CSure he's old, but the market for catchers is EXTREMELY thin this year. Word on the street is that the Yankees are offering 4 years at 52 million to wrap him up before he can even talk to other teams. That seems like a lot of money and a long period of time, but with Arod gone how else are the Yanks gunna spend their $$?!Predicted Destination: Yankees 3. Tennesse Volunteers I love Bruce Pearl and his painted chest. He's had this program on the rise for the last few years and this is their year to take it from the Gators. Vols return four starters and eight letter winners to a team poised to make a move. Pearl has experience and depth and the East is theirs to lose. 2. Vanderbilt CommadoresVanderbilt finished a distant second with a decent record in the east and is looking to get a steady improvement this year. The commodores return three starters and seven letter winners from last year?s squad. Shan Foster will be back as the team leader in points but the Commodores will need the new youngsters to take a serious role if they expect to have a shot at being the team to beat in the East. 3. Gone is versatile forward Julian Wright, who will be missed greatly, but the experience and ever-talented Jayhawks are still one of the top teams in the country. KU returns 4 starters in Brandon Rush, Mario Chalmers, Russell Robinson, and Sasha Kaun. Sixth man Darrell Arthur will start for Wright and will be one of the top sophomores in the nation. Also, a rather deep bench should keep them atop the Big XII.2. Kansas St.KSU did lose 3 starters, but their in-coming recruiting class is their best ever. College Footbal Weekend Preview
2007-11-02 06:01:00 This week I'm in charge of the weekend preview. I'll do it a little differently than Stefan, but it'll look a lot like what you are accustomed to.(21) Wisconsin at (1) Ohio St.I like the Buckeyes in this one. OSU has really surprised me this season. I thought they were a much more talent team last year. However, they've done nothing thus far to tell me they won't beat Wisconsin by double digits on Saturday. The Pick: Ohio St.(24) Wake Forest at (23) VirginiaThis is going to be a great game. I like Virginia because they're at home and despite last week's close loss, I feel like they're relatively hot coming in. I like the Cavaliers in a close one.The Pick: VirginiaRutgers at (13) ConneticutUCONN is extremely underrated. A lot of people forget that their only loss of the season was by 1 point to a very good Virginia team. However, this game might be a lot closer than one would think because I think Rutgers matches up really well against the Huskies, and the Scarlet Knights have... 2007-10-31 20:43:00 Complete Sports is somewhat commonly known for his Bold Predictions. However, today I've got one of my own. Except, I'm not sure how bold it really is.I fully believe that the New England Patriots will not lose a game this season. I just don't see them losing. Obviously it would be much easier to make this prediction after the game with Indy this weekend, however I'm making it now. The Colts are really good, but I think the Patriots will win, and probably by double digits.I just don't see them losing to anyone this year. Bill Belichick has this team playing with a fire I've never seen before. He's also coaching to make a point. He wants to put away any chance of the whole cheating faisco placing any doubt in anybody's minds about how good this team really is.Their RBs and TEs are solid, and they have the best WR corps in the NFL. Their D is stout and they have some late round draft pick QB named Tom Brady. He's alright I guess. I'm calling that the Pats go undefeated this ... More About: Watch , Dolphins
Newfound Respect for Arod...Sort of PS - Register at the new site!
2007-10-29 22:10:00 Yesterday was a bittersweet day of baseball for me. I was rooting for the Rockies to beat the Red Sox and try and make a series out of things. This was obviously a disappointment. However, upon finding out that Arod had turned down the Yankees, I was ecstatic and almost proud of him. I thought it was so cool that he was turning down the evil empire to go and play somewhere else. The only problem is in the way in which he did it.The Yankees were willing to pay Rodriguez the highest salary in history and couldn't even get him to the negotiating table, after his four seasons with the team. I truly admire the fact that he could step away from the money like that, all be it he is financially secure right now (to say the least). However, I agree completely with Buster Olney, the 4th game of the world series was definitely not the appropriate time to make this announcement. This came off to me as a real headline-grabbing, arrogant move to me. The way he did this was totally classless.... More About: Site , Respect , New Site , Sort
2007 NBA Predictions
2007-10-28 21:59:00 WestNorthwest1. Denver Nuggets A very talented team is poised to make a run at an NBA Championship. This team is ready to compete with San Antonio, Dallas, and Phoenix. Carmelo Anthony is one of the best scorers and players for that matter, in the NBA. If Marcus Camby and Kenyon Martin can stay healthy, I have a feeling they will be one of the best.2. Utah JazzDeron Williams is looking to be a great PG in this league and is surrounded with some pretty good talent. As long as Carlos Boozer stays healthy they should be a contender. But they also need more consistent play from Andrei Kirilenko.3. Portland Trail BlazersPortland is a very young team and should be playing for next year. With Greg Oden out, LaMarcus Aldridge will have to pick up the slack in the middle. Jarrett Jack is still an iffy point guard. Brandon Roy is a solid player, but I think they are another year away from being a good team.4. Seattle SupersonicsThey lost Rashard Lewis, their main scoring threat. It will be int... 2007 NBA Predictions
2007-10-26 21:46:00 EastAtlantic1. Boston CelticsYeah, so have you heard of the new and improved Celtics? They are now a team that has 3 superstars and should lead them deep into the playoffs. Those 3 are Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce. They're mixed with veterans and young talent, but the PG position could be a problem; Can Rajon Rondo handle the job of being the point man everyday in this league? They aren't particularly deep at all, but I think as the season goes on, draft pick Jeff Green will continue to see playing time and could be a valuable part of this team when the playoffs come around.2. New Jersey NetsThe Nets have a very good perimeter game with Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, and Richard Jefferson. But the question is will their big men be able to stay healthy? If Nenad Krstic can do that he should be able to put up some eye-catching numbers; I feel he is a very underrated player.3. 2007-10-24 21:36:00 Being that I am a student at the University of North Dakota (UND), I am very well acquainted with the 'Fighting Sioux' nickname/logo lawsuit. It's kind of a big ordeal here on campus, and other campuses nation-wide too. I just wanted to chime in with my 2cents and see what the readers think about it as well.So most of you probably already know that UND has sued the NCAA to keep the nickname & logo. The lawsuit is just sort of beginning to heat up, although not expected to fully start until December 10th. Just 2 days ago confidential documents in regards to the NCAA's 2006 policy on American Indian nicknames and imagery were decided to remain sealed. This recent happening, though the info given by the media is vague, gives me hope. See, I am in favor of tribal logos and nicknames if used respectfully. I feel like UND has definitely used the nickname respectfully in its tenure. UND has a beautiful logo designed by a respected American Indian artist and we use the nickname with ... More About: Answers , Searching , Nicknames , Logos , Tribal

2007-10-23 20:51:00 1. Ohio St.- PR- 3OSU is no doubt the best team in the country right now. Their offense has been putting up plenty of points and their defense may just be the best in the land. Tough test this week where they travel to Happy Valley.2. LSU- PR- 1Yes, they did lose, but it was to a good Kentucky team away from home. They keep getting it done in the end and making the plays. The defense is still one of the best in the nation but they've given up some big plays and a fair amount of points lately. Another tough game for LSU as they play at Alabama in two weeks.3. Oregon- PR- 9I wish they would stop with the ugly uniforms. Their latest one looked even worse then any ever on black and white T.V. even. 2007 World Series Predictions
2007-10-22 05:54:00 Colorado Rockies vs. Boston Red Sox I've been pretty accurate in my predictions of the MLB Playoffs thus far and I would like to conclude it with a Rockies over Red Sox in 7 games prediction. Truly, I feel like the Red Sox have the edge in pitching (both starting and bullpen). However, the Rockies' pitching has been surprisingly brilliant this year and I don't see it stopping now.I've said it before and I'll say it again. This year's Rockies club is reminding me a lot of the 2003 Florida Marlins....but maybe even better. Winning 21 of 22 games is what I like to classify as MAJOR momentum.Like I said, the pitching match up is a slight edge to the Red Sox, but not as much as some may think. As far as offense is concerned I think the Red Sox have a very microscopic advantage (it's really tough not to give them the slight edge when they have both Manny and Papi). The Rockies have big time momentum on their side along with baseball fans everywhere who aren't Red Sox fans. I'm ver... More About: World , Series , Predictions , World Series
