Buffalo Rumblings' Best of the Bills Team: QB
2008-06-09 13:00:00 Bills Hall of Fame QB Jim Kelly (Photo Source) Ever wondered what it would look like to see the best Buffalo Bills of all-time lined up on the same field? Ever salivated at the thought of a dual-threat running back tandem of O.J. Simpson and Thurman Thomas? Today, Buffalo Rumblings sets out to get those dreams as close to reality as possible. Today, we're starting a series (inspired by the folks over at Big Blue View) called "Best of the Bills Team ", in which Rumblings readers will vote into prominence a 27-man roster (22 starters, K/P, 3 specialists) of Buffalo's best players of all-time. The Bills have a rich history and have had plenty of outstanding players don the red, white and blue; it's time that this blog community properly honor those players that made us fans in the first place. Here's how this is going to work: for each position (we'll employ a 3-4 defense, for those wondering, and we'll do 3 receivers in lieu of a fullback unless there's dissent... More About: Bills
Bills' Depth at RB Could Be Put to the Test
2008-06-07 15:34:00 Will Wright, others see more playing time? (Photo Source) Let's suppose that come September, the Buffalo Bills will be without running back Marshawn Lynch for an extended period of time. That's not close to being out of the question, as the second-year pro's off-field troubles (hit and run accident) could land him multiple misdemeanor charges; NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell may be compelled to hand out a suspension even if Lynch lands a plea deal. Lynch might face charges in hit and run [Buffalo News]Buffalo police threaten Bills RB Lynch with obstruction of justice [CBC Sports] The Bills would do well in this scenario to prepare for the worst, and the worst is a lengthy suspension for Buffalo's running back. While we keep our fingers and toes crossed that Lynch can avoid disciplinarian action from the NFL (learn your lesson, Marshawn), we can also discuss Buffalo's contingency plan at the running back position. Around the AFC East: Week Three (NE)
2008-06-06 22:31:00 In our final weekly installment of Around the AFC East , MaPatsFan joins us to discuss a player whose absence was felt for much of the beginning of the Patriots' season in 2007: DE Richard Seymour. Injuries and only having to play for two quarters in most games caused Richard Seymour to have an un-Seymour-like 2007 season. At age 28, is Seymour primed to rebound to his old self in '08 and restore prominence to a strong Patriots defensive line? Pats Pulpit: Seymour is, without a doubt, the best defensive lineman the Pats have. Possibly considered one of the best in the NFL (5 straight pro bowls to prove it), yeah it was a huge loss not to have him 100% in 2007. Because the Pats run a 3-4, they don't typically rush their DEs, preferring to leave that to the OLBs. Seymour's experience and size (6-6, 310 lbs) means he fits perfectly in a 3-4 DL situation, closing up holes and jamming up offensive lineman. Add to tha... More About: Week
Around the AFC East: Week Three (NYJ)
2008-06-06 19:00:00 We're back with Part Two of today's Around the AFC East feature, in which we interview - and are subsequently interviewed by - our most heated rivals' bloggers. Joining us now is Brian Bassett of The Jets Blog, who is here to discuss the Jets' new big man anchoring their 3-4 defense: You've spoken about Alan Faneca and Tony Richardson as important off-season additions for the Jets (and I'm not disputing that), but I thought by far their most interesting import was NT Kris Jenkins. Can Jenkins stay healthy enough to play your defense's most important position for the foreseeable future? Do you see him having an impact? The Jets Blog: The contract that the team put in place with Jenkins has many incentive bonuses and one specifically where he is weighed over 10 times a year to make sure that he's no higher than 360 pounds. Jenkins has responded well to the incentive and has been keeping his weight where the team wa... More About: Week

2008-06-06 12:44:00 In the wake of the very latest information surrounding Marshawn Lynch's legal trouble (see above FanShot), we'll continue on with our weekly Friday feature of Around the AFC East . At the very least, our little exercise might provide y'all with a distraction - but, of course, feel free to continue the discussions on Lynch as well. We'll start off this week's feature with Matty I from The Phinsider: With Bill Parcells and his new regime in town, what is the 2008 prognosis for RB Ricky Williams? Does he or does he not make the team? Can he be a contributor under Parcells/Ireland/Sparano's direction? The Phinsider: Ah, yes. Ricky Williams. First, let me be honest. I love Ricky. I really do. Despite his troubles, he's a genuinely good person who I really wish the best after his football life. And he's quite entertaining. I love his most recent quote, when asked about his NFL legacy. ... Lynch Incident Highlights Tumultuous Bills Off Season
2008-06-05 12:45:00 Lynch one of seven current and former Bills with issues (Photo Source) "Character." It's the overriding quality of hard work and "team player" that former Buffalo Bills GM Marv Levy and his regime worked hard to build a new team around in his two-year run from 2006 to 2007. Those two character-based teams finished 7-9 in consecutive years under the leadership of Dick Jauron, and with the team moving in the correct direction talent-wise, Levy saw fit to retire for a second time from the Bills organization, which handed the reigns to a trio of Levy's understudies. In one off-season, however, several Bills players have developed issues that fall outside of the perceived "character" spectrum that could become distractions to the franchise for the foreseeable future. Whether we're talking about legal issues, contractual issues or playing time issues, the fact remains that the Bills currently have five players with very specific stories to follow - all with varying de... State of the Bills Roster: The Recap
2008-06-05 01:25:00 Bills RB Fred Jackson (Photo Source) For nearly three weeks now, we have spent much of our time breaking down the Buffalo Bills' current personnel in our "State of the Roster " series. We, the Buffalo Rumblings community, have had some very intricate discussions about nearly every current Bill on the roster; I hope you've found the discussions as helpful in analyzing the roster changes post off-season as I have. Rest assured that we'll have content daily right up to training camp, but for now, here's a recap of each article involved in our State of the Roster II series: Quarterback: No more Edwards vs. Losman... right?Running Back: Written well before Lynch's run-in with the law.Tight End/Fullback: No more H-Back, but still not a well-defined split.Wide Receiver: Hardy must produce if aerial attack is to blossom.Offensive Tackle: Depth may be a concern, especially if Peters holds out.Offensive Guard/Center: Is Fowler the weak link of the starting O-Line? Tuesday Morning Trivia
2008-06-03 12:52:00 While we all wait and see what happens with Marshawn, lets take a little time to stretch the brain and answer a little Tuesday Morning Trivia . Player 1 - I am a member of the Bills wall of fame. - I played six season for the Bills, from 1969 - 1974. - I was a Pro-Bowler in 1972 - 1974. - I attended Fisk college in Tennessee. Player 2 - I played in 144 straight games for the Bills from 1975 - 1984. - I was selected in the 5th round (#117 overall) by the Patriots in the 1975 draft. - My 178 games played for the Bills ranks 6th all time. - I am now an NFL back judge. Player 3 - I was born in Budapest Hungary. - I am the New York Giants all time leading scorer with 646 points. - In 1964 I scored 102 points which accounted for 25% of the Bills total that year. - In 1965 (my last with the Bills) I scored 115 points, earning All - AFL honors. Marshawn Lynch Update
2008-06-03 05:02:00 Here's the link from PFT: A few more details have come to light. 1. The woman, according to a witness, was hit and 'flew'. Thankfully, her actual injuries seem to be minor. Never mind for the moment that her made up injuries will possibly be far more serious when this eventually hits a civil courtroom. Whether Lynch was driving or not it was his car and that means that he and his fat wallet are involved...at least as far as scumbag trial lawyers are concerned. 2. The woman, according to the same witness, had a green light while the SUV had a red light. Naturally, pedestrians always have the right of way even when they do something stupid. She wasn't doing anything stupid, so whether she was drunk or not won't matter in the least. 3. The cops have impounded Lynch's SUV. 4. The SUV was damaged during the hit-and-run and at least one piece of it was left at the scene. The cops have that piece. It stands to reason that they wouldn't have impounded the vehicle if Lynch's SUV wasn... More About: Update , Marshawn Lynch

Bills RB Lynch Finds Legal Trouble
2008-06-01 15:13:00 Police investigating hit-and-run incident; Lynch possibly involved? (Photo Source) WGRZ-TV in Buffalo is reporting that Buffalo police are currently investigating a hit and run accident involving a car owned by Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch. The incident reportedly took place at 3:30 AM on Saturday morning. A female pedestrian was struck by the car and remained lying in the street for a quarter of an hour before walking to an ambulance under her own power, according to witness reports discussed in the linked article above. As it stands right now, Lynch is only involved in the story because the car is registered in his name. According to the report, it is still unclear if Lynch was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident, or if he was even in the vehicle at all. As the police investigation continues, we should learn more about the extent of Lynch's involvement in the situation. The Bills and Lynch's attorney (who is out of town) have not ... Who wins the job - John Beck? Chad Henne? Josh McCown? Who do you want to start? The Phinsider: Well here's the situation as it stands right now. Despite the national media (ESPN, NFLN, SI.com, etc…) wanting you to think that Chad Henne (because he was drafted by this regime) could start this season, it's not going to happen. So don't even waste time discussing it. He's been working as the team's 3rd quarterback in mini-camp and OTAs, so barring major injury issues, I ... More About: Week

Pats Pulpit: I'll answer your last question first: no. I don't believe Maroney can be that 300-carry-a-year feature back. But, New England places less emphasis on this than other teams do. Bills OT Peters Reportedly Seeks New Contract
2008-05-22 04:53:00 Peters seeks to strike gold after Pro Bowl season (Photo Source) After not-so-inconspicuously missing the first three days of the Buffalo Bills ' first 2008 OTAs, the Buffalo News is reporting that Bills offensive tackle Jason Peters - elected to his first Pro Bowl in 2007 - is seeking a new deal from the Bills. Peters now joins a growing contingent of young Bills players looking for big paydays - a list that already includes WR Lee Evans and LB Angelo Crowell. Our very own sireric correctly predicted this would happen back in February, so be sure to check out his clairvoyant writings before proceeding here. Peters - scheduled to make $2.2 million in 2008 as part of a 5-year, $15 million extension he signed in 2006 - is a classic NFL rags-to-riches story: the former undrafted free agent tight end made a position switch (twice) in Buffalo and has worked his way into becoming one of the NFL's elite young offensive line talents. "Guesstimating" Lee Evans' Contract Demands
2008-05-21 13:30:00 Bills have made an initial offer to Evans (Photo Source) After a season in which his statistical production dropped by a significant margin, Bills WR Lee Evans may still be experiencing a rather large pay raise over the next few months. Evans on Monday confirmed that he has received a contract offer from the Bills, indicating that both sides are interested in preserving a relationship entering its fifth season. The big question, at this point, is this: exactly how much is Evans worth? Evans is not an elite NFL receiver - as evidenced by his meager 55 receptions in 16 healthy games last season - yet he'll likely ask to be paid like one. Blessed with excellent talent, the Bills may be taking a bit of a risk throwing large dollar amounts at a player who has had productive seasons, but probably isn't worth the money he'll ask for. What exactly will he ask for? As is the trend in the NFL, Evans' negotiating camp will likely base their salary demands (not unrea... More About: Demands , Contract
