It's Official, Shaq is Now a Member of the Phoenix Suns
2008-02-07 05:19:00
Yep, Shaq is back playing in the Western Conference and in the Pacific Division with the Phoenix Suns. I never, ever, would've thought that this would happen, but I guess the Miami Heat really had to unload his 40 million dollar contract (20 million over the next two seasons) and begin a rebuilding progress around Dwyane Wade and Shawn Marion. Not a bad idea for the Heat considering the fact they weren't going anywhere and are the worst team in the NBA who haven't even won 10 games all season, so I can't blame them for moving Shaq and making room for the future, but what are the Phoenix Suns thinking? Don't they realize that Shaq doesn't run and gun like the Steve Nash and the Suns do?Maybe, just maybe Shaq will fit into the offense and maybe, just maybe get in a little better shape, but if history has told us anything about the big fella, it's that nothing really changes and you get what you see.Although, having a big man to guard Tim Duncan will be beneficial to the Suns com...

Atlanta Hawks Hold Their Ground Against the Lakers
2008-02-07 04:58:00
The second game against for Pau Gasol didn't go as well as it did against the New Jersey Nets, but it wasn't Pau that should get the blame, it was Kobe Bryant, who couldn't hit a shot to save his life shooting a miserable 4 for 16 from the field. He didn't have a good night dishing the rock with 10 assists, but he would've shot even a little better than this game would have been in the bag.Pau Gasol's second appearance as a Los Angeles Lakers wasn't as impressive as his first with only 12 points (shooting 5 for 14) and 7 rebounds , but the Hawks big men dominated the paint and the boards with rookie Al Horford ripping down 20 rebounds and high flying Josh Smith grabbed 9 boards to go along with 17 points. Hawks shooting guard Joe Johnson also had a good game (schooling Kobe) scoring 28 points and the game clinching clutch free throws to seal the deal for Atlanta .Even though the Lakers lost this one, they looked pretty good chemistry wise with 6 players in double figures and e...

3 Point Shootout: Kobe Bryant Will Participate
2008-02-07 00:30:00
The three point shootout isn't a big, big deal, but it is entertaining to see the best shooters in the NBA shoot the lights out.Usually we see a bunch no names or semi stars go up against each other, but not this year as this three point shootout will showcase some of NBA's best with the Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant , two time MVP Steve Nash, Hornets sharp shooter (and past 3 point winner) Peja Stojakovic, Detroit's best all star shooter Richard Hamilton, defending 3 point champion Jason Kapono and Cavaliers Daniel Gibson. They not all superstars, but four out of six is pretty nice! Can't wait to see Kobe go off in this one, he still holds the record with Donyell Marshall for most threes in a game with 12 (36 points just on threes). This contest could go anywhere, I see all of these guys winning, except for maybe Daniel Gibson.OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports

Trade Rumors: Shaq is Going to Be Traded to the Phoenix Suns
2008-02-06 08:40:00
Wow! Just when I thought the last blockbuster trade (Pau Gasol to the Lakers), the Miami Heat turn around and drop a bomb on the Pacific Division and the Western Conference by talking with the Phoenix Suns about a trade which would bring Shaq to the Suns for Shawn Marion and point guard Marcus Banks.Reportedly, the Suns have agreed to pull the trigger on the trade and obviously the Miami Heat are in desperation mode if they officially accept the trade which brings Shaq back to the Western Conference. From what is being said, this deal is as good as done with Shaq already planned to fly to Phoenix to take a physical on Wednesday and Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks doing the same. When this does happen, the Pacific Division will be the most competitive in the NBA with the Lakers being the top dog, Phoenix not far behind and the Golden State Warriors getting better with every game. The NBA is starting to look more entertaining with every trade that goes down before the deadline which is jus...

Pau for President!
2008-02-06 05:36:00
What a way to begin his career with the Los Angeles Lakers! The comes out, is dominant on the glass, is a great passer and a very good scorer in the paint. If the Lakers haven't been this deep or as talented since Shaq left a few years back.Pau Gasol had an awesome performance on Super Tuesday against Jason Kidd and the New Jersey Nets, scoring 24 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in his first victory as a member of the Lakers. This guy has got it all and seems to be a perfect fit for the Lakers, so perfect that if the team stayed the way it is right now without Andrew Bynum, they would be championship contenders regardless.I know that is a little bold, but Gasol is the total package and perfect complement to Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom, so much so that Odom is actually playing like an All Star in a lesser role (well, lesser when Bynum gets back). Odom played exactly the way the Lakers have wanted him to play the whole time he has been in LA, scoring 14 points (on only 4 shots) and ri...

The Beginning of a New Era of Lakers Basketball
2008-02-03 01:48:00
On February 3rd (Super Bowl Sunday), the Lakers will take on the Washington Wizards at 9am Pacific, in Washington DC, but even though it sounds like a game of no real importance, it just might be the most important game for the Lakers so far this season. This game will be the first time we will see Pau Gasol in Lakers purple and gold, depending on the outcome and the chemistry or lack there of between Gasol and Kobe Bryant, it will determine the Lakers immediate future while Andrew Bynum is sitting with the knee injury for the next four to five weeks or so.I believe that the combo of Gasol and Kobe will be similar to Kobe and Bynum's, which was blossoming nicely before he went down, Gasol is a great passer and very accurate shooter (Gasol has shot 50% from the field every season except one) so this one-two punch may turn into the best in the NBA before Bynum even gets back on the court.A new era of Lakers basketball is upon us, this squad is the best the Lakers have looked since 200...

Kobe Lights Up the Toronto Raptors Scoring 46 Points
2008-02-02 09:53:00
It looks like Kobe Bryant was pretty damn happy to hear the news about Pau Gasol coming to the Lakers and Kwame Brown getting the boot because he was absolutely on fire against the Toronto Raptors Friday night.Kobe....Kobe....Kobe46 points on 19 of 28 shooting, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and only 1 turnover all game! Number 24 was unstoppable in the 44 minutes he played against Chris Bosh and company, the guy scored 46 points and only shot 4 free throws. He was playing like a man possessed, obviously motivated about his new teammate and the Lakers chances of actually going all the way to the Western Conference finals and quite possibly the NBA finals.Kobe was the only one on the Lakers that was lighting it up, four other Lakers scored in double figures (D-Fish, Odom, Farmar, Sasha). The most impressive of these four was also the most unexpected, Sasha Vujacic dropped 22 (tying career high)off the bench on the Raptors, only missing 2 shots and hitting 4 out of 5 three pointers.Chris Bosh ...

2nd Biggest Trade in Lakers History: Pau Gasol for Kwame Brown and Javaris
2008-02-02 08:32:00
The second biggest trade in Lakers history, the first being the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar from the Milwaukee Bucks way back when, but this one has to be right there with championships hopefully around the corner, maybe not 5 like the Lakers got with Kareem, but you never know.Title Contenders!!When I saw that Pau Gasol was on his way to Lakerland and Kwame "Butterfingers" Brown was on his way out, the first thing that came to my mine was, Title Contenders!Derek Fisher at point guard, Kobe Bryant playing shooting guard, Lamar Odom in the mix at the 3 spot, Pau Gasol banging in the post at power forward and the future best center in the NBA, Andrew Bynum in the middle. That sounds like an All Star stacked, title contender and near unstoppable team on both sides of the floor to me. Three players 6'10" and over in the starting lineup, WOW! Two All Star caliber 7 footers with phenominal skills in the post and and a guaranteed double-double night in and night out (Gasol, Bynum), three players t...

Lakers Rally in the 2nd Half to Beat the Knicks
2008-01-31 08:49:00
After the New York Knicks amazingly put up 61 points on the Lakers in the first half, Kobe Bryant and company rallied and came together together in the second half (finally they start showing up in the second half) to beat the Marbury-less Knicks 120-109. Too bad Spike, maybe your New York Giants will have better luck (doubt it)!Even though the Lakers show some resolve in the end, they looked pretty bad in throughout most of the game, not looking good on both sides of the floor. Kobe Bryant had a solid night, with his assists being more impressive than his points for the first time in awhile as the All Star dished out 11 dimes to go with 24 points and 8 boards (he definitely become a force on the glass since Bynum went down). When it was all said and done, it was and ugly win, but six players did score in double figures with Sasha Vujacic scoring an usual 20 points off the bench and crazy ass Ronny Turiaf putting in work grabbing 9 boards and dropping 17 points (why isn't this guy...

Chris Webber On His Way Back to the Golden State Warriors
2008-01-28 06:26:00
Looks like veteran Chris Webber has finally made up his mind about making his return to the NBA, but it is not that fact that he is coming back that is surprising, it is where he is going to suit up.It's seems as though Chris Webber will end up playing for the Golden State Warriors once again, where he began his career and won the Rookie of the Year award way back in 1994 (14 years ago). Webber will be playing for Warriors coach Don Nelson, who had problems with back in '94 when he requested a trade, which he got and was traded to the Washington Wizards (known as the Bullets back then).Reportedly, Don Nelson and Webber put their differences behind them a few years ago back in 2002 when Nelson was coaching the Dallas Mavericks and was selected to coach the Western Conference All Stars. In that game, Shaq was injured and Nelson started Webber in his place. If all is well and good with the Warriors, Webber will be paid a pro-rated veteran minimum of 1.2 million, not bad for playing ha...

Round 2: Kobe Bryant vs LeBron James
2008-01-28 00:29:00
41 points for LeBron James and 33 for Kobe Bryant (12 boards as well), but the most important numbers in Sunday's game at the Staples Center was the final score, Cleveland Cavaliers 98, Los Angeles Lakers 95.Yep, the Lakers lost another one, letting the opposing team comeback for behind (9 points behind to be exact) in the 2nd half yet again to snatch another victory away from the boys in purple and gold. A valiant effort by both teams, but without Andrew Bynum and Trevor Ariza in the lineup, the Lakers have serious problems holding on to a lead and finishing the games with a W.It was round 2 in the greatly anticipated heavyweight match up with LeBron James taking on Kobe Bryant for the second time this season. King James took the first round and now he has won the second round as well scoring a game high 41 points, 2 of those points sealed the deal right in Kobe's face with 20 seconds left on the clock. Then the Lakers took the ball down the court and scored off a big rebound put...

Lakers Lose Two in a Row
2008-01-26 07:56:00
After an embarrassing loss to the San Antonio Spurs in which the Lakers lead and dominated the first half only to lose in a terrible second half effort. Well Friday night in Dallas was no different with almost the exact same plot line. The Lakers started off the first half on the right foot keeping the Dallas Mavericks on their heels by just out playing them in every aspect of the game, but that didn't last long when the third quarter came as the Dallas Mavericks took the lead and never looked back.Kobe Bryant did have an impressive game with 40 points on 11 of 19 shooting to go along with another good rebounding night with 10 boards, but it just wasn't enough to keep the Mavericks at bay. Another Laker who had a decent night Jordan Farmar was a spark off the bench scoring 18 points in 33 minutes being the Lakers second leading scorer behind Kobe. The Mavericks were lead by their three headed monster in Dirk Nowitzki, Josh Howard and Devin Harris who combined for 70 points and 20 re...
Spurs Make a Comeback in the 2nd Half to beat the Lakers in San Antonio
2008-01-24 05:35:00
The Lakers got off to a great start against the Spurs on Wednesday in San Antonio with all of the starting five, including Kwame Brown, playing flawless team basketball, but Tim Duncan and company were too much for Kobe Bryant and the Lakers in the 2nd half.At halftime the Lakers were up 9 and cruising, firing on all cylinders from Kobe to Turiaf to Odom playing solid team basketball the way they were before Bynum went down, it looked as if the Lakers were back on track and the best in the West, but it was too good to be true. The minute the second half began, the Spurs were a completely different team rallying from behind and playing championship basketball. The Lakers big lead disappeared within minutes and the game's momentum changed in the Spur's favor.Even though the game got a little out of control for the Lakers, Kobe Bryant gave it a valiant effort on the boards ripping down 12 rebounds and scoring 29 points, but he had an ugly and embarrassing 9 turnovers. The Spurs on the ...

Stage is Set: Los Angeles Lakers vs San Antonio Spurs
2008-01-23 05:27:00
After an impressive and convincing win over a good Denver Nuggets team on Monday, the Lakers seemingly still can compete against the best teams in the league, but can they give a healthy defending champion San Antonio Spurs a run for their money? The answer is hell yeah, even though Lakers' centers Andrew Bynum, Chris Mihm and defense specialist Trevor Ariza are injured, the Lakers have what it takes to compete against the Spurs as long as they keep playing team basketball and their bench (mainly Jordan Farmar) contribute like they did against Denver.Although I am a big fan of Kobe Bryant and I love to see him go off for 40, 50, 60 or 81 points, it is becoming obvious that if he distributes the ball, scores 25 to 30 points and plays solid defense, the Lakers can beat anybody and I mean ANYBODY!The Lakers bench are a good indication of this as Jordan Farmar, Ronny Turiaf, Trevor Ariza and Sasha Vujacic are playing their best basketball of their career and making the Lakers one of the...

Kobe Becomes Distributor, Derek Fisher Becomes a Scorer as the Lakers Beat
2008-01-23 02:24:00
There has been speculation of the Lakers being headed for a rapid decline after their big man Andrew Bynum went down and defensive stopper Trevor Ariza was injured as well shortly after, but they proved they can play at the same level against the best of them Monday night by beating the Denver Nuggets convincingly 116-99.Derek Fisher was on fire in this one scoring like a madman in the first quarter by putting up 16 points then finishing with 28 on 6 of 7 shooting from beyond the arc to lead the Lakers. Kobe Bryant and D-Fish seemed to change positions against the Nuggets as he dished out 11 assists and only took 7 shots in which he hit 5 scoring 17 points. The Lakers dominated all game long with 5 players in double figures and a big boost off the bench from Jordan Farmar who scored 19 points in 23 minutes. With this win it seems as though the Lakers have regained their chemistry, perfect timing because the San Antonio Spurs are up next and at full strength unlike last time.NEXT MATCH...

Another Lakers Player Goes Down: Trevor Ariza Out for 8 Weeks with Broken F
2008-01-23 02:09:00
Damn! Damn, damn, damn! The Lakers lose another vital key to their new found success, defensive specialist Trevor Ariza who the Lakers got in a trade for Maurice Evans and Brian Cook (genius, best trade in a long time) early in the season, goes down with a broken foot and will be out 8 weeks. As if it wasn't bad enough to have what I think was the NBA's Most Improved Player in Andrew Bynum go down, but to have a great defender/slasher go down for the same amount of time, is just depressing.OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports

Lakers Sign DJ Mbenga to 10 Day Contract
2008-01-23 01:45:00
Lakers make their first move in repairing their depleted center position by signing unproven 7 footer DJ Mbenga to a 10 day contract. Not sure this was a good move, but it was definitely an inexpensive one. DJ Mbenga didn't prove anything playing on the Golden State Warriors this season, he didn't even make the squad, but with Andrew Bynum return 7 weeks away, Kwame Brown playing like Kwame Brown and Chris Mihm's return still a couple weeks down the line, the Lakers had to do something. With this move, the Lakers have a 15 man roster which indicates the end of hope of getting Chris Webber to come to LA. Reportedly, the Lakers were not to sure of the kind of shape the veteran might be in, so they figured they would go with the younger (27 years old) Mbenga.DJ MBENGA BLOCKING KOBE WHEN HE WAS WITH THE DALLAS MAVERICKSOnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports

Lamar Odom Trade Rumor
2008-01-19 03:13:00
Even with the Lakers playing great basketball, there is still trade talks and rumors flying around, but this time it isn't Kobe Bryant on the block, it's Lakers forward Lamar Odom .There have been talks in the past about Lamar Odom getting traded to get a proven superstar to play alongside Kobe like Jason Kidd or Jermaine O' Neal. Now the names swirling around are Pau Gasol from the Memphis Grizzles, Shawn Marion from the Phoenix Suns and Andrei Kirilenko from the struggling Utah Jazz.As always, this is all speculation and nothing will probably go down, but it is always interesting to here possibilities of what might happen, even if it is fiction.Let's hope all stays the same, except for Kwame Brown because things are looking pretty good in LA thus far.OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports

PJ Brown Coming to the Lakers is Probably Not Going to Happen
2008-01-19 03:00:00
With the Lakers desperately thin at the center position, they have been looking for a solid center/forward to replace Andrew Bynum and keep Kwame Brown on the bench where he belongs. The most notable of the players that the Lakers are interested in are PJ Brown and Chris Webber, but it seems that Brown is enjoying retirement a little too much to suit up for the Lakers. His spokesman said earlier this week that there are a bunch of people inquiring about him, but there is no real interest from the six foot eleven forward. So that leaves the Lakers in a tight spot with only two real candidates remaining, one is Chris Webber who is being courted by the NBA best like Detroit, Dallas, Miami and Denver. And two, DJ Mbenga who couldn't even make it on the Golden State Warriors squad. That's a tough one Kupchak, hurry up and get Webber before the season goes from promises to dreadful.OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports
Kwame "Butterfingers" Brown Voted as Gets the Least Out of Most Talent
2008-01-19 02:28:00
I must say, what an honor for a player that will never win anything significant in his career. What do you think after reading that you are basically the most underachieving player in the NBA? That has got to hurt, hopefully it sends an important message that something has got to change, like now!I used to feel sorry for Kwame "Butterfingers" Brown , but with Andrew Bynum being as good as he is in only a short amount of time by actually listening to what NBA great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is trying to teach him, I have no sympathy for Baby Huey anymore, he is just a lazy sack and waste of space. In the poll that SI.com put up a couple of days ago, Kwame Brown got 17% of the vote followed by Clippers forward Tim Thomas with 10% and a slew of others like Eddy Curry (Chicago Bulls), Vince Carter (New Jersey Nets), Darko Milicic (Memphis Grizzles), Tracy McGrady (Houston Rockets), Darius Miles (Portland Trailblazers), Stromile Swift (Memphis Grizzles), J.R. 2008-01-18 07:16:00
No Andrew Bynum = No Chemistry and No Answer for Amare Stoudemire and Steve NashIt is becoming more and more obvious that without Andrew Bynum in the lineup, the Lakers are just not as competitive or able to play solid team basketball on a consistent basis. The loss to Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night at the Staples Center 106-98 is only the first loss for the Lakers in 8 games, but without Big Bynum in the middle, the Lakers are vulnerable to any teams offensive attack.Steve Nash was on his game Thursday dishing out 20 assists, he didn't shoot the ball all that well, but he definitely got his teammates involved as the Suns had six players in double figures.Lamar Odom was one of the few Lakers that actually had a good game against the Suns scoring 19 points and an impressive grabbing 19 rebounds. Kwame "Butterfingers" Brown on the other hand had a game to forget with 7 turnovers (on some real bonehead plays), 8 points (pathetic) and only 6 rebounds (Odom more than t...

Chris Webber on the Lakers' Radar?
2008-01-16 04:10:00
Since Andrew Bynum is going to be out at least two months, Chris Mihm out for two more weeks, Kwame Brown being the starting center for the Lakers and Ronny Turiaf being the backup (disaster waiting to happen). With the Lakers playing like a contender in the Western Conference, Andrew Bynum being down for a couple of months could really screw up the chemistry and newfound winning ways of the Lakers. So it would only be a smart move to start to look for decent replacement for the time being because Kwame in the middle is like giving the other team 10 points before the game begins. Here are the options for the Lakers as of right now:PJ BROWN: He would be a great addition to the Lakers, a solid defender, good rebounder with a great jumper from 10-15 feet, the only problem is that he is retired and teams have already offered more than enough just to play one year. If they can somehow convince him, he just might be the best option.DJ MBENGA: Who? Exactly! This guy is said to be one of the ...

Lesson #2 for Rookie Kevin Durant
2008-01-16 03:44:00
As if Kevin Durant didn't learn the first time he went up against Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers, the second time must have been twice as bad as Kobe just tore him up for 48 points and an overtime victory in Seattle, Ouch! The Supersonics gave the Lakers a run for the money, so I am not saying they didn't give it the old college try, but once the game came down to the wire, they had no answer for number 24.Kevin Durant had a horrible game shooting basketball, only hitting 6 for 26 shots for 19 points. It seemed fairly obvious that Durant was trying to match everything that Kobe was putting up by throwing up garbage from three point land towards the end of the game. The kid is good and he will most definitely be one of the best players in the league, but he has got to lay off throwing up the junk if he actually wants to win some games this season.Kobe Bryant was on his game Monday, hitting jumper after jumper and making some pretty sweet plays off the dribble and into the pa...

Andrew Bynum Will Be Out for 2 Months Minimum

Damn! Right when the Lakers looked to be at the top of their game and playing the best we have seen them play in years, Bynum goes down with a serious injury. That is just plain shitty!Six straight wins, everyone playing team basketball (including Kobe Bryant) and the Lakers most improved and unique weapon goes down for 2 months, 2 MONTHS! Not a week or even a couple of weeks, but a devastating 2 months. This will be the true test of how good the Lakers are and just how deep their much improved bench is. As long as they can keep it together, stay healthy and have Kwame Brown play half way decent basketball in the paint, the Lakers should be OK, but the potential for another meltdown like last season may just be around the corner.OUCH! 2 MONTHS IS A LOOOONG TIMEOnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports

Ouch! Andrew Bynum Goes Down Hard Against the Memphis Grizzles
2008-01-16 03:12:00
Lakers fans worst fears have come true, Andrew Bynum is injured, badly.I guess you could say that it was bound to happen, someone was going to go down with an injury, but instead of it being someone of little or no importance like Kwame Brown, it happens to probably the front runner for the most improved player, Andrew Bynum. The Lakers came into Staples Center on Sunday with a red hot 5 game winning streak and all the confidence and chemistry a NBA team could ever ask for. The game started out as predicted with the Lakers leading at the end of the first and second quarter, but once Bynum went down in the third quarter it seemed to be all down hill for the Lakers. With Bynum out indefinitely, it was time for Kobe Bryant to take over and that he did. Scoring 37 points, Kobe completely took over the game and had two clutch free throws and a key basket with 42 seconds left to get the Lakers sixth win in a row 100-99.KOBE GOES OFF, BYNUM GOES DOWNNEXT MATCH UP: Los Angeles Lakers at Seatt...

Andrew Bynum Beat Up the Bucks
2008-01-16 02:52:00
Every game this season Lakers center Andrew Bynum has improved and made it more than obvious that the kid is turning into a man and a dominant force in the NBA.With 25 points and a career high of 17 rebounds, Bynum was simply unstoppable and an absolute monster on the boards against a team with some good 7 footers in Andrew Bogut and rookie Yi Jianlian. Bynum just keeps getting better and better as the season progresses shooting the Lakers up the ranks in the Western Conference.Kobe Bryant also had a great performance lighting up the Milwaukee Bucks for 37 points shooting 5 for 9 from the beyond the arc. If these type of performances from Bynum and Bryant are going to be on a nightly basis you can expect the Lakers to be representing the Western Conference in the NBA Finals in the near future, if not now, soon!As for the Bucks, point guard Mo Williams had an impressive night scoring a team 28 points. The Lakers Domination Continues!
2008-01-10 04:26:00
The New Orleans Hornets have shown that they are a legit team in the Western Conference this season lead by one of the best point guards in the NBA, Chris Paul, but the Lakers made them look like a D-League team on Wednesday beating the the Hornets by 29 points in New Orleans.Yet another awesome team effort by the Lakers! The purple and gold played textbook team basketball by passing the ball well and taking smart shots all night long. This time it was Kobe Bryant leading the way with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. All eleven of the Lakers that took the floor Wednesday put points on the board, five of which scored in double figures (Odom, Bynum, Ariza, Walton, Kobe).Andrew Bynum had another solid game going up against the league's leading offensive rebounder Tyson Chandler, scoring 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting and grabbing 9 rebounds. Chris Paul was the only real bright spot for the Hornets, at least on the offensive end, scoring 32 points, but it wasn't enough to even get ...
