Kevin Durant Gets First Lesson from Kobe
2007-11-28 10:54:00
The streak is over! Hallelujah and thank you Kobe !I know it was only a three game losing streak and it was against the Seattle Supersonics, but a win is a win and losing streak can easily turn a team inside out, especially with how vulnerable the Lakers are to media scrutiny these days.Well, lets get to the game shall we. First off, rookie Kevin Durant played a hell of a game scoring 25 points (12 in the last 6 minutes) against the Lakers, I have to give it to this kid, one day he will be a big star in this league, but he has to make his team better first like LeBron James did in Cleveland or he will just be a scoring machine on a team going nowhere fast.On the other side of the ball, Kobe Bryant put on his usual offensive display by scoring 35 points on an impressive 12-22 shooting (I know it is only barely over 50%, but it is an improvement) and grabbing 8 boards (looking more and more like an average of 8 rpg) and dishing 6 assists. The supporting cast wasn't that bad either wit...

New Comer Trevor Ariza
2007-11-27 06:21:00
Finally the Lakers get something that they have needed for a long time, a good defender. He is no Ron Artest or Bruce Bowen, but he knows how to defend (he should teach Odom a thing or two) and he is not bad on the offensive end either. It is definitely nice when you can get a LA native like Trevor Ariza back in the mix as you know he is comfortable and ready to play ball for the team he most likely grew up watching and routing for. Even though Maurice Evans is kind of a big loss from the bench for the Lakers offensively, Ariza will add that defensive pressure on opponents, giving Kobe Bryant the much needed break and load off his shoulders on defense.Lets just hope that at the end of the season we are all not scratching our heads in frustration wondering why Mitch Kupchak made another bonehead decision, maybe, just maybe he pulled out a steal this time.THIS KID GOTS HOPS!!OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports
First Bump in the Road for the Lakers
2007-11-27 05:46:00
After wins over the Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Utah Jazz and the Houston Rockets this season, the Los Angeles Lakers looked to be FOR REAL and finally ready to be a contender, but the last three games have ended in disappointing and unexpected loses (except against the Boston Celtics, Kevin Garnett and company are a little out of the Lakers league) against the Celtics, Bucks and the New Jersey Nets. Before these loses the Lakers were on fire and looking good from all angles, especially from the bench (which hasn't been good since the Shaq era) and with Andrew Bynum in the middle in place Kwame "Stone Hands" Brown. With all these things clicking and a seemingly happy Kobe Bryant, what happened? It seems the one problem the Lakers are going to face more than anything this season, is when they do lose, they beat themselves with stupid mistakes and sloppy defense.I hope they have better luck and correct their mistakes when they before they meet the Denver Nuggets Thursday November 29...

Lakers Get Revenge with a Win Over the Houston Rockets
2007-11-15 08:31:00
On opening night, Lakers looked pretty good against Tracy McGrady (who went down in the first half with an elbow injury on Wednesday) and company getting the a substantial lead early with everyone contributing, but in classic Laker fashion, they lost the lead late and eventually were defeated by two points.Wednesday night was a different story all together though, the end of the game was still close because of a ridiculous foul by Jordan Farmer that put Yao Ming on the line, but the Lakers were still able to prevail 93-90 to improve to 4-3.Kobe Bryant came out hot in the first half scoring 18 points which is what he scored all of last night against the San Antonio Spurs, Bryant ended the game with 30 points, 8 rebounds (which is a stat he has really improved on), 5 assists and one amazing block on Yao Ming underneath the basket. Everyone else had a so-so night with Lamar Odom not really showing up offensively with only 10 points and Derek Fisher adding 13.If the Lakers keep playing ...

Brokeback Attack by the Zen Master!
2007-11-14 23:30:00
After the Lakers loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night in San Antonio, Phil Jackson was asked if all the penetration lead to out side shooters being open all night long. In response to this question, Jackson responded by saying, "We call this a 'Brokeback Mountain' game because there's so much penetration and kickouts". I don't know about you guys, but I thought that statement was hilarious! I am not a hater when it comes to gay people, but I just thought that was funny coming Phil Jackson who just seems so NOT funny and straight laced all the time. Maybe it was wrong, but when a man like that says something so out of the norm, it has got to make you laugh. Not too smart on his part though, I am sure he will receive a lot of criticism and extra negative attention which is something that the Lakers definitely don't need anymore of. Too Much Tony Parker
2007-11-14 08:19:00
The 107-92 loss on Tuesday night doesn't not reflect how bad the Lakers played against the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs, once again, it all came down to poor defense. The Lakers were just being smacked around all night long by a slippery and very efficient Tony Parker who with his patent tear drops in the lane, open jumpers and ability to always find the open man (9 assists) was virtually unguardable. It just seemed like the Lakers were hopeless on defense, granted the Spurs are one of the NBA's elite teams, if not the elite team, but come on, play some D! On every possession for the Spurs they were swinging the ball around the arc, just exhausting the Lakers and every time they had the ball they found an open man, especially behind the three point line where Bruce Bowen torched the Lakers for 6 threes going 6 for 6. Kobe Bryant seemed not existent on offense with an unusual 18 points (even though that was a team high), but he was the only one to show up on the defensi...
Phil Jackson Will Make his Decision by Thangsgiving
2007-11-10 20:11:00
Amidst all of the Kobe Bryant trade talk and the constant rumors of who is going where, what the Lakers are getting in return, it seems people have completely forgot that Phil Jackson may not be coaching the Lakers next season because he still has yet to sign an extension or indicate whether he is leaving the game or staying put.Well, we will finally know for sure what his decision will be by the end of this month. Phil Jackson was quoted as saying,"It will probably be before Thanksgiving, or around Thanksgiving time," when asked about whether or not he still wants to coach the Lakers. If you ask me, Jackson is waiting to see if Kobe gets moved because if he does, you can say bye bye to the Zen Master.OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports

Timmmmmmmmmber! The Timberwolves Fall Again as the Lakers Improve to 3-2
2007-11-10 06:51:00
Not the best margin of victory against a terrible Minnesota Timberwolves squad 107-93 (should have been a 40 point blowout), but we will take it!Kobe Bryant and point guard Derek Fisher took the distributor roll on Friday night against a young Timberwolves team that is struggling to find it's identity, the two future hall of famers (D-Fish is a hall of famer, maybe) accounted for 16 of the Lakers ' 28 assists in the game with Fisher dishing out 9 and Kobe with 7.Kobe was the usual offensive monster with 30 points on 9-19 shooting, he also had 7 rebounds. The big story on Friday night was the return of a much needed piece to the puzzle in Lamar Odom. The small forward put in 30 minutes of work on the floor in which he scored 18 points and ripped down 10 rebounds which is pivitol for the Lakers as Lamar seems to be in top form once again and the Lakers have a very tough schedule ahead of them starting Tuesday, November 13th against the San Antonio Spurs followed by the Houston Rocket...

2-2? Not Bad So Far!
2007-11-08 21:17:00
First off, sorry for not updating the blog lately, I know a lot has been going on in Lakerland, but there has been a lot going on for me too, so forgive me, I promise to post more as the season progresses.Anyway, back to business, the Lakers are looking pretty good lately, with the only real beating coming against a red hot 4-1 New Orleans Hornets team, but I think regardless of all the ridiculous Kobe Bryant trade talks lately, the Lakers have a legimate chance of making something happen in the Pacific Division and the Western Conference this season. Especially since the Phoenix Suns, don't look like the Phoenix Suns, the Clippers seem to be the only threat (which ain't saying much) and Andrew Bynum seems to be, for the moment anyway, living up to the hype. All and all, us Laker fans have an promising season ahead of us, lets just hope these trade talks disappear forever and we can get back to playing basketball.NEXT MATCH UP: Minnesota Timberwolves at Los Angeles Lakers 7:30 pm p...
Kobe Bryant Destinations
2007-10-17 08:47:00
I hate to do this, but I guess I will have to face the music someday in the near future anyway the way things are going, so here are the most likely destinations for Kobe Bryant to be traded to (I hate even thinking about this):New York Knicks: talk about a bad trade for the Lakers and Kobe Bryant, if the Lakers were to pull the trigger on this trade (they would be retarded), they would most likely receive Stephon Marbury (who should just retire already), Eddy Curry (not bad) and or David Lee.For Lakers: terrible trade For Knicks: in their favor, but no one to complement KobeDallas Mavericks: this deal has some promise of a good return for the Lakers, but not enough to fill the void, if that is even possible. Josh Howard and Jason Terry would probably be the key players from Dallas. For Lakers: decent, but not good enough For Dallas: NBA title just around the cornerChicago Bulls: this is the team I think has the best options for the Lakers. Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, Kirk Hinrich and ...

Lakers Rumors Getting a Little Crazy
2007-10-17 08:20:00
As if this off season wasn't hard enough, with all Laker fans on the edge of their seats and kept in suspense every waking minute after Kobe Bryant announced that he would like to be traded, it just seems to get worse and worse in Los Angeles both for the Lakers and their dedicated fans with each passing day.Honestly, to get my personal opinion out there, I am sick and tried of Kobe's every move getting documented, analyzed and criticized. For one, just leave the guy alone, no wonder he wants out of LA, he can't away from all the damn media and constant questions with a camera in his face 24/7. Do you want to be a Laker? Have you played your last game for the Lakers? Did you clear out your locker? I too want the answers to these questions, but after today, seeing the way the mass media is spinning and tweaking the whole Kobe and Buss situation, I am done. I love Kobe and I don't want to seem him go, but everyone seems to be pushing him out.Bottom line, if Kobe Bryant wants out o...

Lakers Rookies Looking Good
2007-10-13 21:30:00
Even though the Lakers seemed to be shadowed by negativity at the moment there are some positive things going on, if you can believe that. All starting with the Lakers 19th pick in Jarvis Crittenton. This kid looks good, very good! Not the best player on the defensive end of the floor, but he has got moves and looks to be a solid player in the NBA, if not now, very soon, but don't be surprised if you see this kid running the point as a starter this season (if he doesn't get traded that is).Another rookie standout so far is Coby Karl, with great shooting ability (especially from behind the arc) and size, this kid could be a good contributor for the Lakers off the bench this season and a potential starter further down the road. Like most rookies, Coby will have to work on his defense as he is not the best defender, but with the way the Lakers have been playing in the pre season the whole team needs to concentrate on defense. All and all, the future looks bright even with all the talk...

Kobe Bryant's Future with the Lakers is Still in Doubt
2007-10-13 21:20:00
Just when we thought that all the trade talks, rumors and BS was behind us, we get hit with the possibility of Kobe Bryant leaving the Los Angeles Lakers once again. When will this all end?It seems that Lakers owner Jerry Buss has put Kobe Bryant back on the trading block (if he were ever off it), he has been quoted as saying that he will listen to offers from other teams for his superstar.Damn, I could have sworn that all this was over and done with, I think there was about a little less than a week that Laker fans could breathe easy knowing the Kobe wasn't going anywhere. That is all over now though, from the looks of things, something is going to happen, what exactly, who knows, but unless the Lakers are flawless and looking like a contender by February, you can say good bye to Kobe.OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports

Sun Yue is a No Go for This Season
2007-10-06 02:16:00
Bummer! I was really looking forward to seeing what this guy could do, but apparently, just like every other deal that comes from overseas, there is a problem. Sun Yue hasn't officially signed with the Lakers so he will be playing next season in China with a watchful eye from the General Manager Mitch Kupchak. This isn't a major hit to the Lakers, but Yue definitely could of helped out off the bench using his scoring and play making abilities. Lets just hope that Jarvis Crittenton pays off or you can call this draft a big time bust for the Lakers.OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports

Lamar Odom Wants to be a Laker 4 Life!
2007-10-06 01:54:00
It is no secret that Lama r Odom was the Lakers best and almost only bargaining chip this off season to make a blockbuster deal, he was being named in every possible trade scenario the Lakers were involved in, but Odom is no where near discouraged as he has said that he would like to end his career wearing purple and gold. You got to give it to the guy, despite what most people say about him like he can't play defense or that he will never play up to his potential, he is a class act and a very good basketball player.Just think how hard last season was for him, with his tragic death of his newborn (which in many cases would just destroy a man and his family) to his on going injury problems, the guy has just seemed to go through hell and come out positive and on top of his game. Pretty amazing if you ask me!Lamar Odom is very deserving of the right to finish out his career alongside Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. Kobe is Onboard, but Phil Jackson is Still in Doubt
2007-10-02 03:27:00
With Kobe Bryant showing up to training camp positive, ready to go and motivated to make another championship run, the Lakers spirits are up and the future is looking a lot brighter than it was during the off season, but, "What about Phil Jackson ?".It seems as though the Lakers have offered the Zen Master a two year extension, but he hasn't been quick to accept the offer or show any sign of interest in coaching again for the Lakers or anyone for that matter.Well, it is great to hear that Kobe is past all the trade demands and bad blood, but the Lakers may have a whole new mess on their hands if nine time NBA champion (as a coach) Phil Jackson doesn't want to coach next season. I guess we are just going to have to wait to see how well the Lakers do in the up coming season. Talk about pressure to get the job done! If they have another disappointing season, they will lose the best player and coach in the NBA for good.OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports

Kobe Time!
2007-10-02 03:04:00
Every single fan of the Lakers took a HUGE sigh of relief this morning as Kobe Bryant got rid all the speculation by showing up to training camp and saying he is ready to play for the Lakers and bring another championship to LA once again!Thank God! I was freaking out about what could have possibly happened today, but luckily for all of us Laker fans out there, Kobe, Kupcake and Buss kept it all in house and out of the media, lets just hope it stays that way and the Lakers can get back to NBA dominance again. From the sounds of it, Kobe and company are very motivated after what could have been a complete meltdown of the Lakers if Kobe either didn't show up or demand a trade once again. Everyone on the team seemed positive and ready to go, this could be a good season, if they can stay positive and play like they did at the beginning of last season.Keep your fingers crossed Laker fans, because the tide can change any moment, but at least we are through the first storm.OnToplist.com ra...

Play Overseas or in the NBA?
2007-09-30 06:25:00
I have to admit, I never thought that basketball would ever become a popular or marketable sport overseas, but it seems as though that time is upon us. This off season has shown some interesting developments to prove this, mainly the interest of some of the NBA's best and brightest like Stephon Marbury, Chris Weber, Andrei Kirilenko, Dee Brown, Scottie Pippen and Ron Artest getting offers to play overseas. The NBA has already felt the effect of international players taking over with players like Dirk Nowitzki (Germany), Tim Duncan (Virgin Islands), Steve Nash (Canada), Pau Gasol (Spain), Luol Deng (England), Tony Parker (France) and Peja Stojakovic (Yugoslavia). All of these players have made considerable contributions to the NBA and their teams. If I were to make a comparison, I would say that basketball is somewhat like soccer in the sense that it is only really popular in certain areas of the world. Soccer can be seen being played by children in the streets in almost every country...

Shawn Marion to the Lakers?
2007-09-27 02:19:00
Finally! Amongst all the bad press the Lakers have gotten in this terrible off season, finally some good or at least promising news. It seems that Shaw n Marion is unhappy playing for the Phoenix Suns and wants to be traded (for sure), oh, and did I mention that he is good friends with Kobe Bryant? Yep, the two are pretty tight and best of all they have already spoken to each other about the possible trade and Kobe is all for it!If this deal goes down, which I hope to God it does, it would include Lamar Odom and possibly Brian Cook (no loss here), which in my opinion is ideal for the Lakers in their current situation. With Shawn Marion in the lineup you get points, rebounds, shot blocking and most importantly, DEFENSE! Marion or the Matrix is the total package and might just be what the Lakers need to get to the next level.Another possible destination for Marion would the Utah Jazz for Andrei Kirilenko who has been involved in trade talks all summer long.THE MATRIXOnToplist.com rankin...
Who is Elton Brown?
2007-09-19 07:51:00
Well, I don't think I should be shocked anymore with the moves that the Lakers front office makes anymore, but I can't help but think, "WHY?".It looks like Kupcake has made yet another questionable move in signing Forward/Center Elton Brown from the NBDL's Colorado 14ers. The kid put up good stats last season playing in the NBDL with 18.4 ppg, 9.6 rpg and 2.1 apg, but that was only in the NBDL and not against the NBA's elite players like Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan and Amare Stoutamire at his position. Why, oh why, would you make another signing that proves you (Dr. Buss, Kupcake) have no interest in improving this team or making an effort to make the Los Angeles Lakers an immediate contender? I think we as Lakers fans can finally come to terms with the fact that Andrew Bynum is the future of this franchise and Kobe Bryant is no longer going to be playing in a Lakers uniform.NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS POST, BUT I THOUGHT THIS LITTLE CLIP WAS COOL! Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson Are On the Same Page
2007-09-18 03:12:00
As the up coming NBA season gets closer and closer, Laker fans have to wonder if their team is going to be in utter chaos or relatively on the same page. One thing is for sure, Kobe Bryant and the Zen Master Phil Jackson are definitely on the same page. Who thought we would ever say something like that again? It turns out that Phil has also expressed his discontent with the Laker squad and he actually thinks Kobe right with his demands and concern. When Jackson was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame on September 7th, he was quoted as saying, "And one of Kobe's complaints is to improve the talent and give him the teammates he can compete with. I'm in collusion with him on that."We've made some changes this summer. I think we still have to make changes to help us out."Call me crazy Dr. Buss, but when you have the best player in the NBA, Kobe Bryant and quite possibly the best coach that has ever coached in the NBA in the Zen Master saying that something has to be done to impr...

Bulls and Knicks Still Possibilities for Kobe Bryant?
2007-09-05 02:09:00
After playing with the best players in the NBA all on the same team with Team USA, Kobe has felt what it is like to play on a team with chemistry again and one has to think, "How has this changed Kobe Bryant 's mind set about his current situation with the Lakers?", "Will he stay with the stay or go?".Personally, after playing with such amazingly talented players like Jason Kidd, LeBron James, and Carmelo Anthony I would already be gone, but I were a NBA player of Kobe's caliber and in my prime, I'm out too! And I am one of the biggest Lakers fans out there! I really think it will take a miracle to get Kobe Bryant to WANT to stay with Lakers now and I can't blame him.The rumors have started up again with the same two teams being the suitors for Kobe's next NBA campaign: Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks. Even though Kobe has been as silent as a monk taking a vow of silence, Kobe has seemed to be talking behind closed doors and hasn't changed his mind since making the last t...
