Dr. Buss Gets a Slap on the Wrist
2007-09-05 01:34:00
At 74 years old you don't do much, maybe have trouble getting around, get up three times in the middle of the night to take a leak or about one crazy wise crack away from being put in an old folks home, but not Dr. Buss. After blowing a .13 percent alcohol level while driving a 23 year old girl to God knows where, Dr. Jerry Buss was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence or that is what everyone is saying, that was the nice way to say "you got a DUI".Anyway, after Mr. Untouchable pleaded guilty, the verdict has finally hit him! A $1900 fine, attendance to a MADD program (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), 5 years probation and he didn't even have to show up to court. That's it? This is the very definition of "MONEY IS POWER", anyone else like me and you would be sitting in a jail cell (after the arrest) for starters, on a lot stiffer probation and required to show up to court to be embarrassed in front of everyone, but not Dr. Buss.Sometimes the rich just make me sick, ...
Next Stop Beijing!
2007-09-04 21:29:00
After completely dominating Uruguay, beating up on Argentina and embarrassing Puerto Rico once again, it was time for the final game in the Tournament of the Americas against Argentina for the gold.LeBron James was an absolute animal in this game, scoring a game high 31 points with highlight after highlight. Dwight Howard was next in line on the score card with 20 points shooting an awesome 7 for 7 from the floor. Kobe Bryant had a distributing role in this game, dishing a few dimes to LeBron (sweet alley-oop) and Dwight Howard (showtime behind the back pass). The final score was 91-80, closer than usual, but not close enough for Argentina.Argentina proved to be no contest for Team USA as they just seemed to roll over them in an effortless victory to take the gold in the tournament. Team USA set a new record in the tournament with an average margin of victory just short of 40 points. If this is a sign of things to come, we are in for a real treat in the next Olympics in Beijing , Chin...

Team USA Gets Revenge
2007-08-29 23:00:00
Back in 2004, the Puerto Rico basketball squad led by Carlos Arroyo dominated and embarrassed Team USA, which resulted in the worst loss ever by the Americans in international basketball, 92-73, but 2007 is a whole different story with a much happier ending for Team USA.The big four or LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony and Michael Redd all scored in double figures, led by LeBron's 21 points. Puerto Rico never really had a chance as the Americans just seemed to roll over them on their way to a 117-78 victory. If this win tells us anything, it is that Team USA is vastly improved from years past and they are ready to get back to elite status on the international level once again. There will be only one thing standing in their way before they can get out of this Tournament of the Americas, undefeated Argentina. First, Team USA will face off against Uruguay on Wednesday August 29th and then they will match up with Argentina on Thursday night August 30th. It will be a true test o...

Mexico Put Up a Fight
2007-08-29 22:23:00
In what turned out to be the biggest challenge yet for Team USA, Mexico put up an unexpected 100 point effort against undefeated Team USA, but still eventually lost 127-100. Although Team USA still beat Mexico it was the closest margin of victory so far in the Tournament of the Americas at only 27 points, in the NBA that is a blowout, but in this tournament it means either Mexico is a lot better than USA expected or Team USA is slippin' a little bit.Carmelo Anthony lead all scorers as usual with an impressive 28 points, Kobe Bryant was next in line with 21 followed by LeBron James and Dwight Howard who dropped 19 points each. Romel Beck led Mexico in scoring with 20, showing promise as at times, the Americans seemed to have no answer for him, even Kobe Bryant was caught off guard when Beck forced Kobe into fouling him at the three point line, which resulted in a four point play.Mexico showed Team USA defense that at times suffocating, causing careless turnovers and showing sloppy p...

Brazil Nothing More Than a Stepping Stone for Team USA
2007-08-29 04:27:00
Leandro Barbosa felt the wrath of Kobe Bryant's skills on the defensive end when Brazil took on Team USA, having only 4 points on 1 for 7 shooting, the fastest man in the NBA was shutdown by Kobe's suffocating and relentless defense.Brazil really didn't stand a chance against Team USA losing 113-76, which is a huge difference from last year's victory of only 4 points, 90-86. Bryant was definitely the key and continues to show that he is the best defender in the tournament and on the team.LeBron James was the leading scorer with 21, just 1 point over Kobe's 20 followed by Redd's contribution of 16. Even though Team USA came away with a win, Tayshaun Prince went down with a ankle sprain, but the extent of the injury is unknown.Next stop Mexico!BRAZIL GETTING DOMINATED!OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports

Team USA Off to a 3-0 Start
2007-08-26 06:44:00
Canada was just another victim to Team USA high powered offense and tight defense, losing to the Americans 113-63. Carmelo Anthony and Michael Redd came through for the third straight game both being the scoring leaders for Team USA once again, igniting the offense with 25 from Anthony and 19 from Redd who hit 5 three pointers.Team USA is averaging an amazing 116 points a game, not to far off the Dream Team in 92 who averaged 121. Kobe Bryant had another good game game with 15 points, a few nice dunks and another amazing move underneath the basket, but Redd and Anthony definitely stole the show in this contest.Unless Brazil surprises them with an upset, Team USA is going to run away with this tournament and get one step closer to getting back to elite status in international competition.CHECK OUT LEBRON'S DUNK AND KOBE'S REVERSE!OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports

Happy Birthday Kobe!
2007-08-24 21:58:00
On August 24th, 2007, Kobe Bryant turned 29 years old and what better way to celebrate than Team USA absolutely destroying the Virgin Islands national team by 64 points. Yep, you heard right, 64 points! Team USA just completely embarrassed the Virgin Islands, putting on a show of aerial dunks from LeBron James and fancy passing from Jason Kidd.Kobe didn't do that much in this game with only 9 points and 4 assists, but he didn't need to as everyone on the squad contributed, especially Carmelo Anthony and Michael Redd who both were the leading scorers once again with 22 a piece. Redd has to have on of the sweetest strokes in basketball right now, he is just money when ever he shoots. It looks like momentum is building for Team USA, lets just hope it will stay that way. Next match up will give them the best challenge yet against Leandro Barbosa and Brazil on Sunday the 26th.MORE SWEET HIGHLIGHTS!OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports

Domination for Team USA Against Venezuela!
2007-08-24 08:12:00
At the expense of Venezuela , Team USA showed the world what they can do in Las Vegas on August 22nd blowing out Venezuela 112 to 69. If this is the way it is going to be, then this team is definitely the next Dream Team, but if it were that easy, then the US would have done the same in years past.Kobe Bryant finally got to display his skills on the international stage putting on a show with teammates LeBron James who had 11 points and some high flying jams, Carmelo Anthony who dropped in 17 points and Michael Redd with 17 points of his own from his precision shooting. Kobe had an all around good game with 14 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds, but it won't be his stats that will be remembered in this game though, Kobe made an unbelievable move underneath the basket which stunned the defense and left his teammates in awe! The move was so impressive in my opinion because it reminded me of Michael Jordan back in his prime, so fluid, so smooth and unguardable. Kobe is definitely out to p...

Time for Team USA's Final Cut
2007-08-17 22:54:00
On August 22nd, Coach K or Mike Krzyzewski (spell check) has to get his very talented roster down to only 12 players, it is like picking an all-star team, but not picking because your a fan and you like them, but for what they can actually do on the basketball court (what a stretch).Damn! That is one hell of a task considering who is on the squad this time around. There are some pretty easy choices on who goes home and who stays, but talk about coaching the cream of the crop and seeing what you need and you don't need in terms of all around skill. Here is the roster:Kobe Bryant: The one thing that USA has been missing, number 8 I mean 24, its 10 nowLeBron James: Coming off his first finals appearance, he will only get betterJason Kidd: He will have even more assists with these guys around him, eat your heart out Nash!Carmelo Anthony: Proved that he can really play last time he wore a USA jerseyDwight Howard: Young and inexperienced, but an absolute monster on the boardsAmare Stoutam...

Mitch Kupchak Said What?
2007-08-17 08:46:00
Would you trust this guy with millions of dollars to make a winner? It has been reported that Laker GM or bonehead Mitch Kupcake said, "If this was the team that we started the season off with, I would be fine with it.” I have only one thing to say to this delusional man, "Are you OK? Do you need help? What the hell is your problem?”This what he has done with the Lakers' off-season:JULY 3rdSigned point guard Javaris Crittenton(Things seemed to be looking up)JULY 12thRe-signed Luke Walton(Mitch scored some more points with this move)JULY 19thRe-signed Chris Mihm(Why, oh Why? This is where Kupcake was obviously got hammered with Boozing Buss)JULY 20thSigned Derek Fisher(Good decision, but there goes the mid-level, D'oh)JULY 30thSigned Coby Karl(Boggles the mind)I don't know how many times I have said this, but here I go again, AS IF IT COULD NOT GET ANY WORSE! This guy has totally earned the name KUPCAKE in my mind, he makes no sense and I have the worst feeling the something r...
Next Option: Jermaine O'Neal
2007-08-07 01:25:00
Well, with the Kevin Garnett sweepstakes over and just a fantasy of the Lakers it is time to look else where and the Indiana Pacers Jermaine O'Neal is the next in line for the Lakers if they want to get back to a competitive level, oh, and keep Kobe Bryant from leaving town for good.Ironically, the Lakers future is in the hands of yet another loyal ex-Celtic legend, Indiana Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird. Talk about shitty luck! It seems like all the beating up on the Boston Celtics in the 80s has come full circle to haunt the Lakers. First Kevin McHale and now Larry Bird, but it might be a bit easier with Bird since he is tight with Magic, at least I hope.In the past, my lack of faith in the Forward/Center was obvious, but the Lakers are in desperation mode now (more like panic mode), as if it wasn't like that already, but even more so after KG went to the Boston Celtics(I cringe every time I think about that, damn McHale's Celtic roots). Even though Jermai...
What's Left for the Lakers?
2007-08-01 01:23:00
The Lakers ’ off-season options are becoming quite slim after the recent developments in the NBA Kevin Garnett (Boston Celtics) gone and most of the premier free agents like Chauncey Billups (Detroit Pistons), Rashard Lewis (Orlando Magic) and Grant Hill (Phoenix Suns) signed, where do the Lakers go from here? This will be the question on every Lakers fan's mind for the rest of the off-season. What's Left ? The answer is unfortunately only Chris Webber. Even though he is a bit seasoned and definitely not what he used to be, he would still be a presence inside and the best passer on the Lakers squad next season if he chose to leave his hometown of Detroit. It's coming down to the wire now and things need to get done, so if I were Mitch Kupchak, I would get crackin', like now, as Kobe says. OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports
Ron Artest is Another Lakers Possibility
2007-05-17 05:13:00
The Sacramento Kings have seemingly lost interested in Ron Artest and are going to be looking to trade him as soon as possible. There are a few places he may end up, but with the Lakers desperate to make something happen, Artest might be in a Lakers uniform in no time. One of the best defenders in the league and a 20+ a night scorer, Ron Artest is a great basketball player and would definitely help the Lakers. There always that attitude and persona to consider though. Will Phil Jackson and Kobe be able to deal with him?Involved in the biggest brawl in NBA history, doesn't work well with others and has a lot of baggage. There are few that question Ron Artest ability, but his problems off the court have severely damage his appeal to NBA teams and have shadowed his all-star play on the court. There is only other player that has had the same kind of bad publicity as Artest and even though he has rings Dennis Rodman will mostly be remembered by what a pain in the ass he was. So I would ...

Jason Kidd in Purple and Gold?
2007-05-17 03:38:00
The triple-double machine might be on his way to the Los Angeles after all. With Kobe Bryant finally saying he has had enough with Dr. Buss' stingy ways and Kupchak's bad decision making, the Lakers will be making some serious moves with no ifs, ands, or buts. Jason Kidd is averaging an insane 14.6 points, 12.2 assists and 10.3 rebounds per game in the playoffs so far. That's crazy! A triple-double average, in the playoffs! You know what, nah, screw it! Let's keep Andrew Bynum. Are you KIDDing me? Definitely one of the dumbest moves by a Laker general manager in a long ass time! Arguably one of the best point guards of our time, Jason Kidd has everything you would ever want in a point guard and more. Court vision, one of the best all time in finding the open man, either on the break or in a half court set. Rebounding(lead the Nets in rebounding this season), this is a skill that a very few point guards have and it is incredibly valuable when the player with the best passing abil...

Does Dirk Nowitzki Deserve the MVP?
2007-05-16 04:32:00
Hell no! Dirk Nowitzki is an awesome NBA player, an extremely good shooter and scorer, but this year's MVP, no way. The man was the very definition of the word "CHOKE" in the playoffs and maybe for a long time down the road, until the dust settles from getting rocked by the Golden State Warriors. It comes down to this: Would MVP Michael Jordan have crumbled like that? HELL NO! Did you ever see MVP Magic Johnson give up and start making excuses? HELL NO! Or even two MVP Steve Nash, could you see him not giving it his all? HELL NO! Now those are real MVPs who never give up or let another team get the best of them, they have a fire that never burns out, because they refuse to accept not trying. That's passion, that's a competitor, that's an MVP!If you look at all the MVPs of the past, you will see that trend of competitive spirit to win and a lot of championships. Tim Duncan, two championships, Shaq, three championships, Larry Bird, title after title, and others that never got a ch...

Is Luke Walton Going to Stay a Laker?
2007-05-15 20:50:00
In a disappointing season for the Lake rs, only two players come to mind that played their game and had a breakout year. Kobe Bryant and Luke Walton were the only Lakers this year to make a considerable impact and improve their game. Kobe obviously is in his prime and who knows when he will slow down, but Bryant playing at this level was to be accepted. Luke Walton on the other hand came from nowhere, everyone always new that Luke was the best passer on the Lakers, but he couldn't really do much else. This year was where he showed what he can really do, not a dominating scorer, but he can put 20-25 points on any given night. More than doubling his season average in points and assists from last year with 11.4 and dishing out 4.3 assists per game Luke earned his starting role with the team. At one point during the he even lead the league in three point shooting. The big question for Luke Walton is whether not he will stay with the Lakers. Walton is a free agent next season and you be...

Too Much Carlos Boozer
2007-05-14 10:01:00
The Oracle Arena is notrious for being one of the hardest places to play in the NBA, so loud you can't even hear yourself think. Going into game 4, the Utah Jazz ears were probably still ringing from their game 3 loss where they just got hammered by the Warriors and Baron Davis, 125-105. With momentum on Golden State's side, a record crowd(in California) of 20,679 screaming fans, it seemed as if all the Warriors had to do was show up and the series would be tied 2 a piece. Unless they could find an answer for Carlo s Boozer this series was destine to go back to Utah 3-1 deficit. As usual, Boozer dominated in the paint scoring 34 points, ripping down 12 rebounds and proving the point that the Warriors have no answer for the monster in the paint. Boozer wasn't the only who showed up to play Sunday, Deron Williams made his presence felt with 20 points and game high 13 assists, besting Baron Davis who just couldn't get things going finishing with 15 points and 7 assists. Derek Fisher...

The Fate of Smush Parker
2007-05-14 09:15:00
A street baller by heart, Smush Parker has had a difficult time adjusting to the NBA game playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Phoenix Suns and now with the Lakers. With obvious skills and talent, Smush can play ball, but for some reason he is not all that good in the NBA.Smush made a name for himself playing at "The Cage" in Manhattan, getting the nicknames "The Aviator", "NBA Live", showing off his ball handling skills and high fly act. The problem is he just can't play consistently well and he has probably played his last game as a Laker.Rumor has that Smush Parker will find his new home just across the hall in the Staples Center with the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers are in need of a point guard next year with Shaun Livingston going down with the horrifying injury this season and having no set time of return if he even does come back(worse injury I have ever seen, don't even want to think about it, ouch). Smush will probably play behind Jason Hart who mad...

Will Kobe Bryant demand a trade?
2007-05-14 07:33:00
Arguably the best player in the NBA since Michael Jordan, virtually unstoppable on the offensive end of the basketball court and a lock down defender(when he feels like it). Kobe Bryan t has been a pain in the ass and a God to all Lakers fan at one point in time, but he might be universally hated in LA if he makes the decision to demand a trade. Rumors and trade talks are going to be flying around the NBA and Los Angeles all off season long until Mitch Kupchak and "consultant" Jerry West go and get teammate to Bryant's liking. There are going to be quite a few options out there that could definitely improve Lakers, but will they pull trigger and get a deal done before Kobe has enough. Players out there for the taking: Trade Talk: Kevin Garnett, MIN(instant championship contends), Ron Artest, SAC(excellent defender, but too much baggage), Jermaine O'Neal, IND(good, but not good enough)Free Agents: Chauncey Billups, DET(best free agent out there and would fix the point guard problem)...

Baron Davis Strikes Again!
2007-05-12 06:11:00
The Golden State Warriors came into game 3 in a must win situation, 0-2 to the Utah Jazz and a need for motivation like they had against the Dallas Mavericks, no better place to get it, then back on their home court in Oakland with the craziest fans in the NBA. The fans were so loud in at Oracle Arena that espn had a decibel meter showing how loud the fans were, the decibel level was equivelent to that of an orchestra playing in the arena.Baron Davi s came to play on this night, going 12-20 from the field, 32 points(including a monster jam, where he completely embarrassed and posterized Andrei Kirilenko), 9 assists and a career playoff high 6 steals. Jason Richardson also had a good game hitting 5-9 from three point land and finishing with 25 points. Baron Davis was the star of the show once again dominating Deron Williams, causing Williams to turn the ball over 7 times, shutting him down the whole game. Williams had 14 points, 7 assists and like I said with 7 costly turnovers. Carlo...

Phil Jackson: Staying or Leaving Los Angeles?
2007-05-11 06:03:00
A ring for every finger, a proven winner, master of the triangle offense and a Hall of Fame inductee, Phil Jackson . Jackson is definetly near the top of the totem pole with the greatest coaches of all time and might very well be considered the greatest when it is all said and done. How could you ask more as a coach? Coached three of the greatest players of our time in Shaq, Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. In the years he has been coaching in the NBA, he has won an NBA title 9 out of 16 seasons, has a regular season record of 919-393 and 178-73 in the playoffs. That is a winning percentage of 70% and damn near untouchable. Sorry Red Auerbach, but I think by the time Phil is done, he will be crowned greatest coach of all time. The question is how long will he tolerate losing seasons, effortless playoff performances, unmotivated players? If I were in his shoes, I think I could tolerate it for the rest of my life, being paid $10 million a year, but with a reputation for winning like Phil...

Kevin Garnett or Jermaine O'Neal?
2007-05-09 09:23:00
This off season will be almost as difficult for Mitch Kupchak as back when he traded Shaq to the Miami Heat for Lamar Odom, Caron Butler and Brian Grant. It has been a rough road since Shaq left, nothing but bad pick up after bad pick up(Aaron Mckie, Vladimir Radmanovic, Chris Mihm, Chucky Atkins, Smush Parker, Brian Grant), the only real promise in anything Kupchak has done as a GM was getting Caron Butler and Lamar Odom. Even that got screwed up, Caron Butler is now a all-star starter on a good Washington Wizards team along side Gilbert Arenas and Lamar Odom is probably on his way out after his performance in the playoffs and Kobe's demand for change. Admittedly, Kupchak has had some pretty big shoes to fill by replacing one of the greatest general managers of all time in Jerry West, but come on man, start making some moves to improve the team, not get knocked out the first round of the playoffs, again and piss off your superstar by not surrounding him with a good supporting cast...

Baron Davis:The Chosen One
2007-05-08 02:04:00
About 6'3", a stalky 215 pounds kid from Los Angeles, but all baller. Yep, I'm talking about the point guard for the Golden State Warriors, number 5, Baron Davi s . The boy can just flat out play, everybody has always known he can play, but no one has really seen it since his old UCLA Bruin days. Not saying that Baron hasn't been effective in the NBA, but he hasn't been healthy enough to show what he can really do on the basketball court and unfortunately for the Dallas Mavericks, he chose to show them. The hype, the Dallas Mavericks were an amazing 67-15 coming into the post season and a favorite to go to the NBA Finals and win it all. Well somebody made or lost a lot of money in Vegas betting on this series because that prediction went right out the window once the Mavericks had to face the college-like defense of the Warriors. Who would of thought? Defense? In the NBA? A joke right? Couldn't of been more wrong! The defensive pressure was unbelievable, not a single shot was unco...

Lakers Need Help!
2007-05-06 00:37:00
If you are a die hard Lake r fan like I am, you know how hard it was to watch the Lakers get absolutely destroyed by the Phoenix Suns. I have never seen such a lack of effort by the Lakers, it was embarrassing to be a Laker fan, no passion, no heart, they just gave up before the series even got going. Kobe Bryant even looked like he had nothing left and all he seemed to be feeling was frustration, it was a miserable playoffs performance for everyone in Lakerland to watch this year. The Phoenix Suns were ready to avenge their performance from last year's seven game series with the Lakers, on a mission to prove to the basketball world that the Lakers taking them to seven games was just a fluke. It all started with Phoenix's MVP point guard, Steve Nash. He just played the Lakers like puppets from start to finish, it was like he was playing against high schoolers, it was just assist after assist and three after three, truly one of the most unguardable point guards in the league and dese...
