Home Court Advantage Continues to Dominate the NBA Playoffs
2008-05-16 00:38:00 In the second round of this year's NBA playoffs home court advantage seems to be a huge asset, 19 of 20 games played in the second round the home team has come out on top which is leading the last three series (Spurs/Hornets, Jazz/Lakers, Cavs/Celtics) to possible game sevens. The only loss was by the Orlando Magic against the Detroit Pistons.Even the Boston Celtics who had the best road record in the NBA this season (31-10) haven't been able to win even one game on the road. In the first round against the 8th seed Atlanta Hawks (0-3) and now in the second round against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers (0-2).For some reason the home team continues to dominate, it maybe because crowd noise or just dumb luck, but one thing is for sure, who ever wins on the road will be the team that has the best chance to advance. In Utah the crowd noise is deafening, you can't even hear yourself think let alone be able to communicate on the floor making it very difficult to get some chemist... Kobe Bryant Injury Update
2008-05-14 19:47:00 As if it were even a question whether or not Kobe Bryant was going to play in game 5 in Los Angeles against the Jazz I am pleased to announce that Kobe's back is feeling much better (at least so he says) and even if the Lakers were going to play on Monday, he would've have been ready to go says Kobe."I tried to play and make drives to the basket where I could kind of withstand the pain without the back completely spasming and then put the next game really in jeopardy," Bryant said.Anyone who has actually played basketball with a bad back, back spasms or injured their back during a game knows how extremely painful it can be and how it really limits your mobility or your ability to do anything on the basketball court. To think that Kobe actually played through this back pain, helped his team take the Jazz (in their house) into overtime and manage to score 33 points, grab 8 and dish out 10 dimes, that was an amazing playoffs performance.Since injuring his back, Kobe hasn't been able... Trevor Ariza Has Been Cleared to Practice!
2008-05-14 01:50:00 Finally! Trevor Ariza will be on the floor for the Lakers soon enough to play in either the late games of this series with the Utah Jazz or if the Lakers manage to knock out Deron Williams and company, Ariza will be able to play in the Western Conference Finals.Trevor Ariza has been out of commission for the Lakers since January, getting injured like a week after Andrew Bynum went down with the knee injury, Ariza suffered a fractured foot which wasn't healing correctly, but now the doctors have cleared the defensive specialist to practice without restriction which is nothing but good news for the Lakers. With Ariza in the lineup, the Lakers should be a much better defensive team which should come in handy if he can return for this series against Williams, but more importantly if they face the Spurs they will have someone to throw at Manu Ginobili or Chris Paul if the Hornets beat the defending champs.OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports More About: Practice
Ronny Turiaf Will Not be Suspended for Flagrant Foul
2008-05-14 00:57:00 In game 4 against the Jazz in Utah, Lakers forward Ronny Turiaf committed a flagrant-2 on Utah guard Ronny Price in which Turiaf threw Price to the ground will Price was attempting a layup.I will admit that Turiaf did foul Price pretty damn hard, but a flagrant 2? I don't think so, definitely a flagrant foul because it resulted in stitches over Ronny Price's eye, but it was not intentional and did not deserve a flagrant-2 which results in an automatic ejected and can be subject to suspension.Well it seems as though the NBA saw it that way too because they have announced that Ronny Turiaf will not be suspended for the foul.Jazz owner Larry H. Miller lobbied for a suspension of Turiaf after watching the replay, but even Ronny Price said after the game that Turiaf did not deserve to be suspended.MAKE YOUR OWN OPINIONOnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports
Kobe's Hurt, Turiaf Got the Boot and the Jazz Win Another in Utah
2008-05-12 05:56:00 Even though the Lakers lost game 4 in Utah , this was the most entertaining game I have seen in the NBA playoffs this year. The game seem out of hand for the Lakers in the first half with the Jazz taking control early, Ronny Turiaf getting ejected for a flagrant 2 on bench warmer Ronnie Price and Kobe injuring his back on the second play of the game, but the boys in purple and gold rallied and tied it up at the half with an amazing length of the court pass from Luke Walton to Kobe Bryant in the closing seconds.Although the Lakers had momentum on their side coming into the second half, Deron Williams (is it just me or does this guy have the worst hair in the NBA?) and the Jazz were just too tough and Kobe was in obvious pain which resulted in lack of explosiveness and ill advised shots, but he was still able to score 33 points, grab 8 boards and dish out 10 assists; not bad for guy that looked like he couldn't even walk for more than half the game.If it weren't for Lamar Odom, Derek ... Jazz Take Game 3 with a More Physical Approach
2008-05-11 02:03:00 The Lakers have been arguably the best team so far in this year's playoffs, easily dominating opponents, but on Friday night the Utah Jazz figured out a way to keep Kobe and company in check.would get theirs, but in game 3 it turned into a completely different series as Carlos Boozer finally woke up by just dominating the paint scoring 27 points and ripping down 20 rebounds. In the two games prior to game 3 in Utah, the Lakers seem to out play the Jazz in every aspect of the game besides rebounding, they would just run and gun and make the Jazz play their style of ball in which Kobe Bryant would light up the scoreboard and both Lamar Odom and Pau GasolDeron Williams also had a pretty good game as well dishing 12 assists and scoring 18 points, but although he had a good game, it didn't come without a price of injury that he sustained in a collision in the paint with Ronny Turiaf in which he landed on one of his wrist and slowed him down a bit. Kobe Bryant Makes the All NBA First Team
2008-05-09 02:58:00 Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul being named to the All NBA First Team was a no brainer, but there were a few first timers on the list this year and a few snubs of players that are on the list every season.ALL NBA FIRST TEAMKOBE BRYANT, LOS ANGELES LAKERSCHRIS PAUL, NEW ORLEANS HORNETSLEBRON JAMES, CLEVELAND CAVALIERSKEVIN GARNETT, BOSTON CELTICS DWIGHT HOWARD, ORLANDO MAGICALL NBA SECOND TEAM STEVE NASH, PHOENIX SUNS DERON WILLIAMS, UTAH JAZZ AMARE STOUTAMIRE, PHOENIX SUNS DIRK NOWITZKI, DALLAS MAVERICKS TIM DUNCAN, SAN ANTONIO SPURS ALL NBA THIRD TEAM TRACY McGRADY, HOUSTON ROCKETS MANU GINOBILI, SAN ANTONIO SPURS PAUL PIERCE, BOSTON CELTICS CARLOS BOOZER, UTAH JAZZ YAO MING, HOUSTON ROCKETSThis was the first time in years that both Steve Nash and Tim Duncan didn't make the first team, although I think Duncan probably has only a couple more dominant years left in him I believe that we are seeing the beginning of the end of Steve Nash as an elite point guard. As for the rest of the pic... Kobe Gets the MVP Award, Utah Gets Another Loss
2008-05-08 07:30:00 Kobe Bryant getting the MVP award on Wednesday night was just like putting more fuel on the fire for the Utah Jazz, just when you think Kobe might cool off he puts up yet another 30+ point night in which the Jazz had absolutely no answer for.Shooting 11 of 18 from the floor, 11 of 12 from the line, dishin' 6 assists and grabbing 8 boards Kobe Bryant just keeps playing exceptional basketball. Three of Lakers also had good games tonight as Pau Gasol dropped in 20 while blocking 5 shots, Lamar Odom added 19 and ripped down 16 boards and Derek Fisher scored 22 points hitting 4 out of 5 from beyond the arc.The Utah Jazz continued to look like the lesser team Wednesday, they may dominate the rebound column of the stat sheet (41 to 37) against the Lakers, but the LA seems to dominate every other facet of the game and were able to make the Jazz play at their pace.Even though it looks like the Lakers will take this series will relative ease, Utah is an extremely tough place to play like I h... Kobe Bryant is OFFICIALLY this Season's NBA MVP!
2008-05-07 01:39:00 It is pretty ridiculous that we hear who wins the NBA's awards before they are officially announced, but at least Kobe Bryant still won the award after about a week of speculation and hundreds of different reports. In the past I have been pretty harsh on Kobe Bryant (although I am a HUGE fan) because of the constant comparisons to Michael Jordan (who is my favorite player All-Time) and the phrase "Best Ever" getting thrown around by people who either didn't get the pleasure of watching MJ or are just people that hopped on the Lakers bandwagon (and no nothing about basketball), but now I can say that MJ better look out because Kobe has finally matured and understands the importance of embracing his teammates. As a result, Kobe is damn near unstoppable and the Lakers are the best team in the NBA (at least in my opinion)! So with that said, I have to say that Kobe's MVP award is well deserved! Now that Kobe has figured out how to get his teammates involved and has lead the Lakers to t...
Andrew Bynum Looking for a 2nd Opinion on His Injured Knee
2008-05-07 01:03:00 The swelling continues...As if it wasn't painful enough that Andrew Bynum has to watch his team charge to the NBA title without him being able to contribute he now is looking for a second opinion on his injured knee that has kept him out of commission since January 13th.Even though the kid made a HUGE improvement in his game this season and was headed for a max deal next season you have to think whether or not this injury hurts the deal that the Lakers were going to give the 20 year old this off season. When healthy, Bynum can play with the best bigs in the NBA and could quite possibly be the best big man in the league within the next few seasons, but I have to think this injury has really hurt his chances at getting the big money. The Lakers would be foolish not to give him a max deal because he has such a HUGE upside and great potential to be the next big thing in LA, but if Grant Hill's injuries taught us anything, it is that injuries can hang around for the rest of your career.O... 1 Down, 3 to Go! Utah Jazz Already on the Ropes, Lakers Win Game 1
2008-05-05 20:22:00 I'm sure there were a few Lakers fans out there that thought that Kobe Bryant and company had it a little too easy in the first round against the Denver Nuggets (me included) and maybe Utah Jazz would give the Lakers a harsh wake up call in game 1, but the Lakers proved that the first round sweep was no fluke and that they are the real deal! This game was just Kobe, Kobe, Kobe! This season's MVP dominated the Utah Jazz , scoring 38 points, 21 of which was from the free throw line. Not only did the Jazz have trouble stopping Kobe from scoring at will, but Kobe also found the open man when he wasn't scoring by dishing out 7 assists.Even though 6 of Utah's players scored in double figures, their superstars Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams had very forgettable performances. I think Williams is the key to this series, if the kid has a good game both scoring and distributing the basketball then the Lakers are in trouble, but the 3rd year man out of Illinois played one of his worst games... Andrew Bynum Likely Out for the Season
2008-05-03 23:33:00 Well, we all knew this was coming, but unfortunately the Lakers pride and joy in the middle, Andrew Bynum will most likely miss the rest of the playoffs. It seems as though the big fella just isn't healing as fast as anticipated."I doubt there's going to be a comeback this year," Andrew Bynum told the Times on Friday. "I've got to get my knee straight. At this point, I'd have to train for a good month just to be able to go out there and play."If somehow, someway Bynum is able to play again during these playoffs it would be no earlier than the NBA finals which would start June 3rd if the Lakers are able to make it that far."It's frustrating because I can do everything but what pertains to basketball -- running and jumping, defensive slides," he told the Times. The Lakers could definitely use the big kid down the stretch, especially if they end up playing against big men like Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett in the later rounds or the NBA finals. On a positive note, if the Lakers do get... MVP, MVP, MVP! Kobe Bryant Finally Gets His 1st MVP Award!
2008-05-03 23:04:00 We all knew it was coming, well now it is official, Kobe Bryant is this season's NBA MVP!Talk about a lift off your shoulders, Kobe has been waiting for this a long, long time and he has finally gotten the recognition that he deserves.I admit that Chris Paul playing the way he has all season long and continued into the playoffs against Dallas Mavericks got me a little worried, but I think the voters realized that it is Kobe's time to shine, especially with the Dirk Nowitzki debacle of last season (what a joke that was).Hopefully Kobe can take this motivation into the next round against the Utah Jazz because I can guarantee they will not go down as easy as the Denver Nuggets, the Lakers will have their work cut out for them this time.OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports More About: Finally , Award
The Sweep is Complete: Lakers Flying High!
2008-04-29 07:42:00 In a game full of questionable calls (that just happened to go the Lakers way), the Lakers managed to defeat the Denver Nuggets in the mile high city to complete the relatively easy sweep 4-0.I am a dedicated Lakers fan, so don't take this the wrong when I say this, but the Lakers got away with murder in this game. Every single call the refs made in the game went the Lakers way regardless of what the Lakers did. Kobe Bryant and the rest of the boys played a good game, Kobe came in clutch as usual scoring 31 points and taking over in the 4th, but it was almost as if the refs were paid off as every single ticky-tac call was made against the Nuggets and the Lakers could just butcher anybody on the Nuggets that foolishly decided to drive in the lane.Like I said, Kobe had a solid performance down the stretch, but those calls were really questionable.Anyways, it was obvious that Allen Iverson and his boys couldn't match up with the Lakers who were without question the better team and I ... Kobe Time! MVP Hopeful Smokes the Nuggets for 49 Points
2008-04-25 01:19:00 Unstoppable! That is the only way to describe Kobe Bryant's performance against the Denver Nuggets in LA on Wednesday night. With 20 points in the first quarter on 8 or 10 shooting Kobe was just rolling and scoring on anybody and everybody that George Karl and the Nuggets could throw at him. Scoring inside and outside, you name it and Kobe Bryant did it ending the night with a career high playoff high of 49 points. Not only was Kobe virtually unguardable scoring the basketball, but he also set up his teammates with 10 assists to lead his Lakers to a 122-107 victory over the struggling Denver Nuggets to go up 2 games to none in the series.Even though Kobe was making the Nuggets look like a WNBA team, he wasn't the only one to make an impression Wednesday as Pau Gasol and Luke Walton added 18 points each and combined for 17 rebounds. If the Nuggets don't step up and starting playing some defense, not to mention top taking ridiculously stupid shots on the offensive end then the Lakers ... Defensive Player of the Year: Kevin Garnett
2008-04-22 23:26:00 This was another award this season that was no contest as the Boston Celtics Kevin Garnett absolutely transformed his Celtics into quite possibly the best defensive team in the NBA not to mention lead his team to the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference and the best record in the NBA this season at 66-16 (only 6 games off matching the best record all-time 72-10 by Michael Jordan's 95-96 Chicago Bulls).KG blew away the competition for the Defensive Player of the Year award getting 90 of the 124 votes for first place in the race followed by last year's Defensive Player of the year in the Denver Nugget's Marcus Camby with 12 and Houston Rockets defensive specialist Shane Battier with 11 votes.During the regular season, KG was in the running for the MVP award, but a late season injury and the impressive play of both the New Orleans Hornets Chris Paul and the Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryant overshadowed the Big Ticket's play in Boston.Although KG most likely will not win the MVP this sea...
Sixth Man of the Year: Manu Ginobili
2008-04-22 23:17:00 This was an absolute no brainer, no one in the NBA has even come close to comparing to Manu Ginobili. The guy is instant offense off the bench, should be a starter, but seems to work better in the sixth man and has the rings to prove it!Personally, I can't stand the San Antonio Spurs, as a loyal Lakers fan it would be blasphemous for me to praise the much hated Spurs, but I have to give it to Ginobili, the boy is a baller.Ginobili is a coach's dream, an unbelievable offensive threat every time he touches the basketball. He can take you off the dribble and finish at the hoop with ease or pull up from anywhere on the floor with his impressive range and consistent shooting. So although I was hoping that Jordan Farmar would get some love in the Sixth Man of the Year voting, it was ridiculous to think that anyone had a chance to win this award over Manu Ginobili.OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports
Andrew Bynum Will Miss the 1st Round of the Playoffs
2008-04-22 22:56:00 Just when we thought Andrew Bynum would be back in the Lakers lineup and healthy enough to make somewhat of a contribution to the team he has now been ruled out of the Lakers 1st round playoff series with the Denver Nuggets.Bummer!Although Pau Gasol is playing some amazing basketball in Bynum's place, having the big kid back up the Spaniard or play alongside him and Kobe Bryant would have been fun to watch. The Lakers are not saying he will be out the entire playoffs, as of right now they are saying he will just miss the rest of the series against Denver, but the way things are going it seems to look like he won't return until next season. The reason for Bynum's continued absence is that he is still feeling pain and some swelling in his injured left knee. Obviously with the Lakers playing the way there are there is no hurry to rush Bynum back on the floor where he could cause more damage to his fragile knee.Even though I would love to see the Lakers at full strength, I believe the... Kobe Bryant is Staying Put!
2008-04-22 03:39:00 As if Lakers fans really worried about this after the dream season they just had, but just in case you may have still been a bit concerned about Kobe Bryant 's future with the Lakers, put your worries aside because Kobe Bryant officially wants to be a Laker4Life!I don't know having teammates like Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom, being a God in Los Angeles for life and #1 in the Western Conference, nah, I want out! Are you kidding me? No way Kobe is leaving now!The only thing Kobe doesn't have that he wanted before this season is another ring. He pretty much has the MVP award wrapped up, unless somehow Chris Paul pulls the rug from underneath Bryant's feet and he is reaping the benefits from quite possibly the best trade in Lakers history with Pau Gasol for Kwame "Buttfingers" Brown. What else could he possibly ask for? After the Lakers beat down on the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, Kobe was asked some questions about his future with the Lakers and he responded by saying, "I've...
Domination! Lakers Take Game One Over the Denver Nuggets with Ease
2008-04-22 02:46:00 Best trade all-time!! Not only did the Pau Gasol trade quick shoot the Lakers up the ranking in the Western Conference in the regular season, but it seems to be paying off in the post season too!Pau Gasol was virtually unstoppable against the Denver Nuggets in game one. Points, boards and assists! 36 points, 16 rebounds and 8 assists, Pau lit up the scoreboard and the stat sheet Sunday as the Nuggets just had no answer for the Spaniard.Kobe Bryant however had somewhat of an off game by only hitting 9 of his 26 shots, but he still managed to score 32 points by making 13 out of his 14 free throws. The Lakers got off to a quick start against Allen Iverson and his boys, but then cooled off just before the half as the Nuggets closed the gap to only a one point lead for the Lakers going into halftime. It didn't take long in the second half for the Lakers to start playing some impressive team basketball. NBA Playoff Basketball Has Begun!
2008-04-22 01:58:00 After an unbelievable and unforgettable NBA season, we have finally arrived to the NBA playoffs which promises not to disappoint!Every series so far has played at least one game and quite a few of these series have been very entertaining close games. As predicted the Western Conference playoffs has been extremely competitive with almost every team looking motivated to make a run deep in the playoffs. NBA Playoffs: Lakers Will Face the Denver Nuggets in the 1st Round
2008-04-18 00:29:00 After a couple of weeks of uncertainty the Lakers will face AI, Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the NBA playoffs.I think out of all the possible match ups (Dallas, Golden State and Denver) that the Lakers lucked out by ending up by facing the Nuggets who were sweep in the season series 3-0 against the Lakers. The Lakers match up pretty well with the Nuggets, but there is no doubting the fact that individually the Nuggets have some very talented players like Allen Iverson, Carmelo Anthony, Marcus Camby and Kenyon Martin who can cause some problems for the Lakers. Chances are the Lakers will probably take the series pretty convincingly with a sweep or one loss, but with Allen Iverson and Carmelo leading the way and playing team basketball, the Nuggets will not just lay down for the Lakers. The biggest weakness for Denver is the point guard position which hasn't had a solid starter since Andre Miller before the Iverson trade last season. Pau Gasol Will Play Against the Portland Trailblazers
2008-04-02 01:13:00 Just in time! Well, there was no real big urgency, but it will be nice to see Pau Gasol taking the load off Kobe Bryant in the last 8 games after a 9 game absence in which the Lakers lost 4 of the 9, not including the New Orleans game the Lakers lost where Gasol went down. Not only will Gasol suit up and hit the floor, but he will also start which is a really good sign that he may be a lot closer to a 100% than once thought. The last 8 games won't be a cake walk either as they will face some of the best in the West like the Portland Trailblazers (twice), San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks and the New Orleans Hornets.OnToplist.com ranking: Best blogs on sports More About: Play , Portland Trailblazers
Lakers Injury Woes Continue
2008-04-01 06:48:00 If the Lakers manage to some how pull through the remainder of the season with a decent seeding in the playoffs, fight through their Western Conference playoff opponents and take down the Boston Celtics in the Finals (early East prediction) then people will look back on this season as one hell of a ride with opstacle after opstacle. It is no secret that when (if) the Lakers get back to full strength this season (and or playoffs), that they will have quite possibly the most talented team in the NBA, the biggest starting five (Gasol, LO, Bynum) and the deepest bench (Farmar, Vujacic, Radman, Walton, Ariza), but the way it is looking that will be damn near impossible.Trevor ArizaAriza's injury was considerably worse than once thought and who knows if he will be able to make his return this year and even if he did would he be even close to 100%, but he will be able to run within the next two weeks. The Lakers could definetly use his lock down D right about now! Lakers Pull Out Another Close One in Overtime to Beat the Wizards
2008-04-01 06:23:00 If you are a Lakers fan, then I know you are probably starting to get a little worried after watching the last few games, especially the one against Memphis, at home where Kobe scored 53 and they lost. WoW, that is embarrassing! Then how do you let a team like the Washington Wizards , without scoring machine Gilbert Arenas, bust you up for 120 points? Granted, the Lakers did come out with a victory in overtime, but the Wizards still put 120 points on them without one of the best scorers in the NBA. I know ex-Laker Caron Butler is not a player to ignore or disregard, but the Lakers got to start playing some defense or Kobe Bryant is going to start getting back to his 50 to 60 point nights and the Lakers will still come out with a loss or barely win like they did here.I know Kobe got his boys involved with his 13 assists and 7 Lakers scored in double figures, but this was against the Washington Wizards who are 38-35, this game should have been over at halftime. If the Lakers don't start... Calm Down Kobe! Number 24 Gets NBA High 15th Technical Foul
More articles from this author:2008-03-27 22:36:00 If you happen to miss last night's game against the Charlotte Bobcats, be glad that you did because Kobe put on another "I get foul every time I touch the ball, where is the call?" whine fest and got his whiny ass booted out of the game with 2 technical fouls to put his total this season at 15.We all know that Kobe Bryant is arguably the best player in the world right now and is a legitimate contender at being the greatest all time and surpass Michael Jordan, but for some reason this guy cannot keep his mouth shut. With his league high 15 technical fouls, Kobe is one technical away from getting suspended for one game. When the argument about MJ or Kobe arises in the future, when Kobe is retired, I can guarantee that one of Kobe's attributes that will stick out to knock Kobe off his pedestal will be that fact that Kobe just could not stop bitching or keep his cool on the court, complaining on every missed shot, claiming his was fouled, when Jordan on the other hand would take out hi...
