Single Moms and Dating
2007-06-23 03:35:00 When my son was small, I felt that it would be inappropriate for me to bring men around him and I was right. While there was nothing wrong with me dating (I was single, after all) I did not want him to become attached to someone or myself to become attached for that matter and then find that the person was not going to become a long time or permanent fixture in our lives. Then go about bringing another man into our lives. I'm single, yes, but I am still Tater's mother. He did not need to see his mom with this one or that one. Now he's 16 and while old enough to understand life and relationships somewhat, it still is a big deal for me. I've started dating an old boyfriend and things are going well. Parkour, The Latest Extreme Sport
2007-05-19 20:30:00 The latest in urban extreme sports is called Parkour (pronounced parkor) or Freerunning and of course the fever has caught on amongst our small town crew of skaters. This is just the kind of thing that would attract our little rebels as it involves moving through the streets and buildings, over rails and obstacles with the grace and speed of a freaking cat! Have you seen some of these guys move? And of course, it is "random". Apparently the latest James Bond movie "Casino Royale" has blown the craze to all corners because of a scene that shows a guy moving fluidly through the streets. I've seen articles about how this new sport is helping disadvantaged kids and I can see where it can be an asset for concentration and exercise, almost akin to dancing or gymnastics. The jury is still out in my mind though. I am researching it a little more and watching the guys (or trying to as much as I can) to see what I really think. So far it... Hahira Skateboard Park
2007-05-19 19:34:00 We found a great skateboarding park in of all places.. Hahira Ga. Very small town that is a part of Lowndes County. This park is behind an industrial place that unless you fall on it you won't see it. We heard about it through word of mouth and took a day trip to find it and boom! there it was. Check out some of the pictures of it at Skatepark.com. They have several. This is a great park that isn't well known and almost empty until the afternoon. We take a cooler full of ice and some snacks, I of course take a book and a pillow (they do have a couple of cement tables, but they are hard on the rear end), load up the rodeo with kids and just go! A Way to Get Their Veggies
2007-05-19 19:22:00 This one usually gets them to eat some vegetables. Great for gatherings, a side dish, or add cut up left over chicken to make a one dish meal.2 regular sized cans of Veg All1 can of cream of mushroom (store brand is fine)3/4 cup of mayonnaise shredded cheddar cheese or a combo of shredded cheddar and jackCrumbled ritz crackersDrain and Rinse (very important to rinse the veggies to get the can taste out!) the two cans of VegAll. Pour into oven safe casserole dish and add in cream of mushroom and mayo. Mix well and put into preheated 425 degree oven for about 20-25 minutes. (DO NOT OVERCOOK!! You just want it to get hot all the way through. If you leave it in the oven too long, the mayo will turn to oil or ick. Remove from oven and top with shredded cheese. Put crumbled Ritz crackers along the edge all the way around the dish. This way the crackers don't cook into the cheese.Place back in oven for about 2 to 3 minutes for ...

2007-05-19 18:53:00 Found something cool I'd like to share. Did you know that every week or so Walmart offers free samples on their website? It can range from swiffer dusters to vitamins. This week's samples include Dove Hair Care, Sunsilk Hair, and Optic contact lenses. They had about six items a couple of weeks ago, but I only see the three today. What a great way to try before you buy. Sometimes it's a printable coupon and sometimes they ask for your mailing address so they can ship it to you. Another Way to Get Veggies In The Kids
2007-05-19 18:02:00 I made a fabulous spaghetti tonight and used the new Ragu Garden Vegetable brand. I found chunks of peppers and carrots in it, but did not mention it to anyone. What they don't know is in there will nourish them.I make my sauce with plenty of ground chuck, Ragu sauce, chopped onions, canned mushrooms, and to make it chunkier and more flavorful, I add a can of italian style tomatoes. Your mouth is already watering just thinking about that cookie! Try crumbling them over vanilla ice cream. I am so off the diet for tonight! My rule that has helped me lose 17 pounds so far is that I do not deprive myself of a craving. I just manage the amount. THIS one will be hard, but I can do it. 2007-05-19 17:23:00 Some folks asked why I chose the name Random for this blog. It's my son's favorite word and if you listen to a lot of skateboarders, it seems to be high on the list in their vocabulary also. Although I originally had the idea of creating this blog to help moms of skaters, it's still about them and an extension of Tater's Skate Shop. Random also describes most of these boys (and girls, I am not leaving you out, I just happen to have a son) as I watch and listen to their antics. Their common ground is an underlying need for a little rebellion and to feel "random" , unusual, impulsive, and different. And I say more power to them. More About: Musings
Be Safe With Parkour
2007-05-16 00:55:00 Parkour got a mark against it today as I caught my gremlins red handed on the garage roof. One of the boys was about to jump from our garage roof to the roof of the next townhouse. About 10 feet. Of course not MY son, he was just the one sitting there holding his beloved camera. He wasn't in it. Yeah, right. So they got their 15 minute lecture with me yelling like a mad woman. Mom was a raging lunatic and they all got humble (for a minute at least) Thank God for giving me a sense that I needed to check on those nuts. I told them THAT kind of parkour was off limits. I pray they take it seriously. Any of you that are participating in freerunning, keep it lower to the ground and stay away from sharp objects. And use a little sense, ok? Tater's 16th Birtday
2007-05-07 21:05:00 Tater's 16th birthday is coming up soon and I am trying to think about what I can get him. I'm up against some stiff competition. His Dad is adding to what Tater has saved to buy him a CAR. I don't even want to think about my son driving! Or driving alone, without me in the car to shout abuse about what to do and not to do. I'm thinking of loading up the rodeo with him and friends and going back down to Wakula Springs. They all love that place as there is like a 15 foot dive they can jump off of. Just like them to enjoy that! If you go there, be sure to understand that it is the south and there are sand gnats, or sand fleas that will tear you up and you can hardly see them, but you will feel them for days. My New Camera
2007-04-22 21:28:00 Can't wait to get my new camera so I can be more creative with my blogs. Right now we only have Tater's camera and that is permanently strapped to his side, so I really don't have a lot of access to it. I am getting a figi or something like that for my 10 year anniversary with my company. I decided on a camera instead of a ring as I can really use the camera and what do I need another ring for? Soon I'll be able to give you moms pictures of my completed recipes, of the boys, of the parks, etc. And I'll have a new play toy. Maybe I'll even learn how to edit my pics so that they fit the page! Tallahassee Skatepark
2007-04-09 19:34:00 Another of our favorite parks is in Tallahassee FL. This one is not as big as Hahira Ga's to me, but all the boys thinks it is bigger. Still a great park. One thing I don't like about this one is that there are more skaters there and some have real potty mouths. I know it's part of any teen group and my kids just do their thing and probably don't have the best language when I'm not around, but I just cringe when I hear f____ come out of a girls mouth. Call me old fashioned. Over all they seem to be good kids, they are just showing their own form of rebellion and will eventually grow up to cringe when they hear the same talk in front of their own children.
