Two Late Goals Save United
2010-11-13 17:03:00 After going 2-0 down at Villa Park, it looked like Manchester United?s unbeaten run was finally going to come to an end. Two late goals from Federico Macheda and Nemanja Vidic extended the unbeaten run to 26 games in all competitions. Sir Alex Ferguson made two changes to the side who drew 0-0 with Manchester City midweek. Wes Brown and Javier Hernandez replaced the injured Rafael da Silva and suspended Paul Scholes. It was a very poor first half for both sides consistently giving the ball away to the other side. United were the better of the two teams during the first half but still had no shots on target. Man United striker Dimitar Berbatov had the best opportunity of the first half. Hernandez put through the Bulgarian through on goal; the striker went on to miss a golden opportunity from eight yards out. It took half an hour for Aston Villa to test Edwin Van Der Sar in the Man United goal. Gabriel Agbonlahor?s header fell to team-mate Ashley Young, his low strike was saved a...

Premier League Betting Preview: Aston Villa at Everton
2008-04-27 06:37:00 Premier League Betting Preview Aston Villa at Everton – Sunday, 11:00 am Eastern Sunday’s match between Aston Villa and Everton may be the most important one of the season for each squad. The winner of this game will be in prime position to finish in 5th place in the Soccer Betting Premier League and win a UEFA Cup spot for next season. If Aston Villa wins they would tie Everton in points and have a more favorable schedule with two games remaining. They finish at home against Wigan and at West Ham. Everton finishes at Arsenal and home against Newcastle. That really makes Sunday’s match extremely important for both sides. The match on Sunday could also go a long way toward deciding Villa captain Gareth Barry’s future. He has two years left on his contract but is considering a move. Finishing fifth and making the UEFA Cup could convince him that Villa is on the right track. "We have scored 15 goals in our past three games now and we are full of confidence.” Manager Martin O’N...

Reaction's From Villa Match
2008-03-30 13:12:00 Sir Alex Ferguson:"I think we showed fantastic energy,""That's very pleasing, considering some of the players had been away for internationals and the pitch was very heavy.""I said last week the players had reached a peak(the 3-0 win over Liverpool) and that continued today,""I think the players realise now it?s a race to the line and we need consistency, we need real focus. They want to play at their very best. There?s good evidence of that in the last two games. Being at home is always an advantage of course but we?ve played against two very good sides so these (last two games) are good omens for us.""We don?t feel that close (to the title) with six games left. We wish it was only one. Nonetheless I think there?s great confidence in the way the team is playing and that?s always good at this time of year."Cristiano RonaldoAfter the thrashing of Villa, Ronaldo has admitted that he is obsessed with being the best footballer in the world:"The focus is on winning the Champions League ...

Manchester United v Aston Villa Review
2008-03-29 20:30:00 Before the ManUtd/Villa match, Arsenal beat Bolton 3-2 after coming back from 2-0 down and with 10 men for most of the match.United beat Villa 4-0 but it could have been a load more than that. All of the United players played extremly well, Ronaldo was outstanding.Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney (2) all scored for United, Rooney could have/ should have had his hatrick. Ronaldo had a hatrick of assists and Tevez had another busy match. Carrick had a great game and our defence stood strong.Aston Villa started off well but once United scored Villa never looked like scoring but fair play to them, they kept on coming back at us but Kuszczak only had one save to make, which was a great one. Villa have waited 25 years to beat United at Old Trafford and they are still waiting.United are now six points ahead of Arsenal and eight points ahead of Chelsea but Chelsea have one game in hand and they are playing it tomorrow against Middlesbrough.United could have had double figure...

Darren Bent, a flag and Martin O?Neill off to Liverpool
2008-02-19 04:18:00 Everything apart form the flag (http://www.avfc.premiumtv.co.u-k/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~1243-893,00.html) is a rumour and if you didn't already know, the club did try their best at getting us all excited, the Holte End is going to have a pretty big flag to play with on match days. It's a lovely flag. It has squares, which seem to now be part of the branding on the website and I'm sure the squares represent something on our history, the badge is on it and it's claret and blue - I'm sure it will be a great novelty item and that everyone will really get involved.
I?m willing to believe it: Huge sums of cash available for Martin O?Neill
2008-02-14 02:19:00 Okay, it's in the Daily Star (http://www.dailystar.co.uk/foo-tball/view/29451/O-Neill-s-in-t-he-money/) so you've got to take it with that pinch of salt, but I'm willing to believe it, just because I can then think about what is possible. Basically, the first paragraph of the article says 'Martin O’Neill has been told to splash the cash and try to crack the Premier League’s elite top four.'
How to score goals, by Martin O?Neill
2008-02-13 08:11:00 Let’s just imagine for a second that we actually did sign Jermain Defoe in the transfer window. Let’s also imagine that he went straight into the team. Let’s pair him with Gabby at centre forward, with Ashley down the left and Shaun down the right. Or even Ashley down the left and new boy Wayne down the right. Villa would have had quality, no doubt about it, with pace in abundance.
Randy Lerner doesn?t like the idea of overseas matches
2008-02-13 06:09:00 The quotes doing the rounds today, if I'm not mistaken, are taken from quite a while ago and while I can't put a date on it I seem to remember it was about the time when the NFL came to Wembley stadium to play a league game. What is also important to emphasise is, it's not about the 39th game - it's about playing games overseas.
The Doc?s late diagnosis: Villa vs Newcastle United
2008-02-11 07:50:00 This match was summed up by two very contrasting images: the first, the wearying sight of Stiliyan Petrov and Olof Mellberg bickering their way through a first half they both failed to come to terms with. The second, the heartening sight of Marlon Harewood's gleeful celebration of John Carew's second half goals. Good teams are built on the spirit shown by Harewood and Carew, and Villa in the second half were a totally different outfit.
Send the thug Joey Barton back to jail
2008-02-10 04:24:00 I have no problem using the word thug when it comes to Joey Barton and I'd challenge anyone to tell me I'm wrong. He's out on bail for assault, beat up a team mate when at Manchester City, broke a 35-year-old pedestrian's leg while driving his car through Liverpool and his brother is serving a 17 year prison sentence. Are all of these just an unlucky coincidence?
Aston Villa 4 Newcastle 1
2008-02-09 08:57:00 Great result and considering we went in at half time one down you've got to be quite impressed. A match report is coming from Doc later but for now I'll just say we've done what we had to do and that is get three points.
Petition the greedy Premier League suits to nip this idea in the bud
2008-02-08 09:08:00 I like a good petition and when I looked at this one (http://www.petitiononline.com/-Rocky7/petition.html) only a couple of hours ago it had 119 names - it now has over 1,000 and deserves a lot more. Basically, it's saying don't ruin our game. The important word in that phrase is 'our' because it is ours and while they can get away with most it appears most don't want our teams playing all over the World.
Overseas games will happen because the Premier League is greedy and the clu
2008-02-08 03:51:00 Randy Lerner purchased Aston Villa football club to make money, this has been confirmed in the past by the non executive forum poster General Krulak and as such this overseas game will probably go ahead. It's not just down to Mr Lerner, but it's easy for us to associate with our owner, but rest assured whoever was representing Manchester United, Liverpool and other teams with new owners were probably under instructions to say yes to anything if it meant more money.

Match Prediction: Fulham away on Sunday
2008-02-01 06:54:00 This is an interesting one this weekend because come kick off at 4pm on Sunday we could still be in 5th place with 4th to play for if results go our way - which while unlikely, considering my predictions this season, is possible. It's a possibility because Everton travel to Blackburn, Manchester City entertain Arsenal and Liverpool have Sunderland at home.
Villa?s Greatest Heroes: David Platt
2008-02-01 03:37:00 In a week that saw the new national team manager name five Aston Villa players in his first squad, it seems somehow appropriate to reminisce about the last player from the club to put on an England shirt and really make the world sit up and take notice. 'England have done it...in the last minute of extra time,' isn't quite up there with 'They think it's all over...it is now,' in the world of legendary commentary, but it isn't far off - largely thanks to a certain 1996 song that included it in the introduction. |
