Coffee's Ready! Babies and Beads
2012-05-09 15:32:00 Was THRILLED to hear a reader (and friend) is a young, hip, awesome... gulp.... GRANDMA! Saw the photo this morning and would like to take a moment to offer up my coffee in a toast to new life. And last night my daughter's friend had her baby as well (this would be a friend my older daughter works with at the bank - not the high schooler!) - a little girl named Aspen. So to Baby Chubby Cheeks and Aspen - Welcome to the world, little ones!~ ~ ~ ~Last night I got a package delivery. It was the small solar generator I ordered this week. It's a Goal Zero Escape 150 and can be charged by solar, car adapter or wall plug. With the power going out so often with all the severe storms, I'm thrilled to have a way to keep my laptop, cell phones, lamps, etc. running until it comes back on. It can't run something huge like a fridge (I have a different generator in mind for that but don't have the funds) but I could even run our small space heater on this a...

Babies Named for Anzac Day
2012-05-01 09:00:00 I didn’t know that Anzac Day existed until a few days ago, when I read about people named Anzac at the blog Waltzing More Than Matilda. Anzac Day is celebrated in both Australia and New Zealand every April 25. ANZAC stands for “Australian and New Zealand Army Corps” — the group of soldiers Australia and New Zealand sent to fight in WWI’s Gallipoli Campaign, which began on April 25, 1915. The campaign failed, but the?

George Orwell Lives, But Babies Die
2012-01-25 02:52:00 All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others, and abortions are safe.  George Orwell lives, from a deluded Genevra Pittman: (Reuters Health) – Getting a legal abortion is much safer than giving birth, suggests a new U.S. study published Monday. Researchers found that women were about 14 times more likely to die during or after giving birth to a live baby than to die from complications of an abortion. Reax,Steven Ertelt Life News: But Paul Wilson of the Culture and Media Institute says “Reuters failed to include vital information about the study and the people it quoted – namely, that the authors of the study and both of the experts it cited were either abortion doctors or had strong ties to the abortion industry.” Abortion may or may not be safer for the mother. It is definitely not safe for the baby. Link to this post!

Do nerd parents have nerd babies? Great
2011-10-15 17:27:00 I was inspired by the Cheaper than Therapy article the other day about parents being the root of a child’s popularity. It makes sense. If the parents are encouraging party-throwing and text-message-plan-having then they are contributing to their child’s social finesse. But there’s got to be something to natural likeability. And is the inverse true... Read more »
Jet setting with babies
2011-09-26 12:02:00 Renate & I recently travelled to Holland to introduce Will to the Dutch family and friends. It was a success but the airlines, airports and travel agent (Flight Centre) were hopeless in providing us with the information we required before travelling, all telling us to check with everyone else. We hope that this will help you if you are planning similar trips. The airline and ground staff everywhere were very helpful and we were pulled aside and managed to skip some queues. Buggies/Strollers We could use our Mountain Buggy from the moment we arrived at the airport until we got into the car in Holland including the 3hr stop over in Kuala Lumpur. Front packs are good but with stop overs, waiting at the gate and travelling through security checkpoints we preferred the buggy so Will could sleep and make travelling through checkpoints easier. The key to being able to use the buggy in this manner is that either at check-in, or at the gate (airline/airport dependant) you need to get...

In a large bowl or in your mixer with the dough attachment add the yeast mixture, milk, sugar, salt, eggs, butter and half the flour. Mix on low for a few minutes. Scrape down the sides of the mixture and give it a good stir. Add in the remaining flour and mix on low until a dough forms. Now for the extra flour. I have modified this website recipe as it did not come together into a nice dough. I had to add 3 extra cups of flour to get it to come together. I also only used half the butter that they recommended. (I hate it when you google a recipe and it's not right, drives me batty!)Place the dough in a bowl and cover. Allow to double in size....

2011-05-09 04:16:00 I cracked one eye open around 6:00 this morning and a set of footed pajamas was pattering toward my room."MAMA THERE'S A SURPRISES! Texas Abortion Centers Killing Teen's Babies Without Informing Parents
2011-03-04 01:00:00 -By Warner Todd Huston Texas has a parental notification law for abortions. Underage teens are not supposed to be allowed to have the procedure until her parents are made aware of the crisis. Unfortunately, it has been discovered that many abortion mills in Texas are breaking the law and killing the babies of under aged girls without informing parents. But there are more violations than just that. A three-month-long investigation by a pro-life group has also found that medical records are routinely and illegally destroyed and hazardous medical waste is commonly disposed of illegally....

Things Babies Born in 2011 Will Never Know
2011-01-07 08:09:00 I stumbled upon this article and I thinks it's quite true and make sense, but again you decide and it's up to you to educate your children about these stuff. Huffington Post recently put up a story called You're Out: 20 Things That Became Obsolete This Decade. It's a great retrospective on the technology leaps we've made since the new century began, and it got me thinking about the difference today's technology will make in the lives of tomorrow's kids. I've used some of their ideas and added some of my own to make the list below: Do you think kids born in 2011 will recognize any of the following? Video tape: Starting this year, the news stories we produce here at Money Talks have all been shot, edited, and distributed to TV stations without ever being on any kind of tape. Not only that, the tape-less broadcast camera we use today offers much higher quality than anything that could have been imagined 10 years ago -- and cost less than the lens on the camera we...
