Red Sox To Appear At Least Twice on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball
2012-01-18 22:33:00 It should come as no surprise that when ESPN announced their 2012 Sunday Night Baseball schedule of telecasts that we'd find the Boston Red Sox playing the New York Yankees twice. The good thing is that we'll be able to listen to Terry Francona every Sunday night since he'll be a part of the broadcast crew replacing new Red Sox skipper Bobby Valentine. I do have to wonder if Tito will ask for those nights off since he knows he'll be at the ballpark broadcasting a game for at least four-five hours. Here's the release from ESPN: ESPN?s Sunday Night Baseball Presented by Taco Bell ? the exclusive, national game of the week ? will continue to showcase Major League Baseball?s top teams and biggest stars throughout 2012. The Sunday Night Baseball schedule will feature the Los Angeles Angels and offseason acquisition Albert Pujols visiting the New York Yankees and Derek Jeter on April 15; two rivalry matchups between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees (April 22 and July 8);...

Baseball America's 2012 Top 10 Red Sox Prospects
2012-01-07 05:54:00 Baseball America is spending the offseason ranking the top 10 prospects of each MLB organization and on Friday, they ranked the top 10 prospects of the Boston Red Sox for the 2012 season. It's probably no surprise to anyone that Will Middlebrooks, who by the way recently became engaged to a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, was named the top prospect in the Red Sox organization. Will Middlebrooks, 3b Xander Bogaerts, ss Blake Swihart, c Anthony Ranaudo, rhp Bryce Brentz, of Brandon Jacobs, of Garin Cecchini, 3b Matt Barnes, rhp Ryan Lavarnway, c Jackie Bradley, of With Kevin Youkilis entrenched at third base right now, it might be a few years before Middlebrooks takes over the hot corner at Fenway Park. But a good year like the one Lavarnway had, could force the Red Sox to consider adding Middlebrooks. Baseball Blogs Weigh In: Zambrano, Quentin, Garza
2012-01-06 16:48:00 On this date in 2006, the Diamondbacks came to terms with Justin Upton after making him the first overall pick in the 2005 draft. The signing deadline back then was the next year's draft, not mid-August. Upton received a $6.1MM bonus, the largest ever given out as part of a minor league contract for a drafted player at the time. He mashed his way to the big leagues less than two years later and already has two All-Star Game nods to his credit. Upton also finished fourth in the NL MVP voting this year after hitting .289/.369/.529 with 31 homers. Here are the first links of 2012... MLB Reports interviewed Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. What value to you place on Beckett this year? Coming off an injury riddled and largely disappointing 2010 campaign, Josh Beckett responded with a great 2011 season. He provided an immense amount of value for owners, posting near top-10 numbers among starting pitchers despite going as late as the 17th or 18th round of drafts. Can baseball MVP Ken Griffey Jr. defeat LPGA great Annika Sorenstam in golf
2011-08-01 18:12:00 A nine-hole celebrity skins challenge will decide whether an LPGA former number-one golfer, Annika Sorenstam, still has the sharp skills needed to defeat baseball legend Ken Griffey Jr., who is said to be a one-handicap golfer. Sorenstam, the former number-one LPGA golfer in the world and now in charge of the ANNIKA brand of businesses, will host the ninth annual Charity Golf Classic at Forsgate Country Club in New Jersey this October. Annika has not played professionally since her retirement/baby announcement but that doesn't necessarily mean that her skills are rusty. I give the slight edge to Griffey, though, who plays golf regularly in celebrity outings. Charity golf events at Forsgate Country Club have always attracted the finest PGA and LPGA Tour professionals including Palmer, Trevino, Lopez and even John Daly to the two challenging and distinct Palmer and Banks courses. The Banks Course is listed as a "Top-Fifty Course" in the Metropolitan area in The Met Golfer Magazine ...

MLB Baseball Betting ? Mets Visit Red-Hot Brewers
2011-06-07 07:37:00 Those betting on Belmont odds realize that it may take a while for their horse to get going, but they can?t give up hope as the Belmont States is the longest of the Triple Crown races at 1.5 miles. Some were starting to pile off the Milwaukee Brewers? bandwagon after a slow start, but it?s getting bigger as the team has surged to second in the National League Central as they prepare to welcome the New York Mets to town on Tuesday.Mets Brewers Betting ? Tuesday, 8:10 PM ETChris Capuano (3-6, 5.19) was hammered for five runs on eight hits over six innings of a 9-3 loss at home against Pittsburgh, and the worst part is that he was doing just fine until the sixth, when he allowed all five runs. It was the second time in three starts that Capuano had allowed five or more runs, and he is now 1-5 in his last seven starts. However, MLB baseball betting players know that pitchers can?t do it all on their own, and in that seven-start span, the Mets have scored more than three runs just twice,...

Fans who love sports love their sportswear. It's just part of the game of fandom. In college, I built up a nice collection of sweatshirts, which at one point consisted of most the ACC, or Atlantic Coast Conference, home of Duke, North Carolina, and Georgia Tech. Along with that, I also gathered some obscure sports schools, including Towson, Louisiana Tech, UMass, Ole Miss, and Appalachian State. Better yet, a friend from Long Island traded a Championâą NYU top with his room mate from South Dakota for a heather grey South Dakota State. Altogether, we out-shirted Bill Cosby....
Baseball Betting ? Lee Aims To Remain Perfect Against Nationals
2011-05-31 08:01:00 If Cliff Lee were a Belmont Stakes betting option, he would be one of the favorites to win the final leg of horse racing?s Triple Crown, and Washington can tell you all about his brilliance as they?ve never beat the former Cy Young winner in three attempts. They?ll try again on Tuesday in the nation?s capital when the Phillies are in town for the second of a three-game series.Phillies Nationals Betting ? Tuesday, 7:05 PM ETLee (4-4, 3.50) has now won two straight starts after a 10-4 victory at home over Cincinnati, and he didn?t just do with his arm; he had a pair of hits and three RBIs on the day to help his own cause, and if he can do that every few starts, the Phillies will see their baseball betting odds rise even more. He didn?t have his best stuff on the mound, allowing four runs on 10 hits over eight innings, while striking out eight, but Lee finally got some run support and when he gets that, he?s pretty tough to beat. The 32-year-old lefty tossed a three-hit complete-game s...

No Bull...Baseball is still America's Greatest Game
2011-05-29 20:36:00 Don't get me wrong. I'm a huge Bulls fan, but the strangest thing happened on the way to the playoffs. I started to lose interest. Why? Because despite the Bulls having the best regular season record and beating the Heat 3 times, it almost seemed like a foregone conclusion that Miami would go to the finals and win it. This seems to happen in basketball all too often. When the Bulls had Jordan and Pippen, they could not lose. When Kobe and Shaq were teamed together, they were practically unbeatable, and when the Celtics introduced the 3 amigos to the league, it was pretty much a done deal that they were going to win the championship. It was no different this year. Miami...
We Will Play Baseball
2011-05-29 18:28:00 I arrived at the ballpark today to see something I had never seen before--nothing. The fog was so thick around 9:40 that I could barely make out the scoreboard in CF. We would not have been able to play if it had been 1:20 due to the fog. Now, as I write around 11 am, it is still very foggy in the area with thunder booms going off in the distance. The lights are coming on and it looks like it's 11 pm, not 11 am. It's been a head-scratching spring weather-wise for sure.Onto the team stuff, Geovany Soto is back off the DL after a 2-game stint with AA Tennessee. He's available off the bench today. North Side v. South Side - It's Not Just Baseball
2011-05-29 05:40:00 Native Chicagoans all seem to have their own concept of what it's like on the North Side and what it's like on the South Side. For South Siders, us north siders are Cub Fans, quiche eaters and yuppies. To North Siders, a south sider like me cheers for the White Sox, guzzles beer and works for the City. Yes, you read it correctly, I consider myself on both sides of this odd civic debate that has probably been raging since Madison Street sliced the City in half.I was born at Edgewater Hospital in Chicago on the north side. The hospital no longer exists, but the neighborhood does. Until July of last year, I either lived on the north side -...
Orioles' Luke Scott: Baseball's Rush Limbaugh, and Birther Moron
2011-05-28 18:52:00 Where was the Twitter outrage when Baltimore Orioles outfielder Luke Scott announced he was still a birther moron? Yes, even after the White House released President Barack Obama's long-form birth certificate, Scott choose not to believe in basic facts. Yet the media seemed to largely ignore Scott's statement, like they do all of Scott's other insane ramblings that make any thinking person wonder: "does he seriously wear a tin foil hat?" Since Rashard Mendenhall was ostracized, and lost endorsements over his "unique" opinions on global geopolitics and the structural engineering of skyscrapers, it's only fair Scott feel the heat for his equally bats%^t, devoid of reality public statements. Too many people overlook the fact that he actually is a...
