The Hottest Baseball Wives and Girlfriends
2009-12-03 23:45:00 The response to last week's post on the hottest wives and girlfriends in professional sports was unbelievable. So with so many of you asking to see the best broken down by sport I decided to post the best by sport once a week. This week's best come from baseball. Next week it will be football. As always your suggestions are welcomed! Part Two of this post is below....
The Hottest Baseball Wives and Girlfriends - Part Two
2009-12-03 23:45:00 Here is Part Two of our post on the hottest baseball wives and girlfriends. There were so many candidates that we had to separate them into two posts because all of the pictures wouldn't fit into one!Enjoy!...
Baseball America's Top 10 Cubs Prospects
2009-11-16 23:50:00 Logan Watkins showed up in BA's recent top 10 list. (photo: Scott McDaniel)With not much going on in the prospect world, things are slow here at Wrigley Bound. This time of the year is when prospecters sift through stats and scouting reports and come up with their top prospect lists. Most prospect websites are in the process of publishing theirs now, culminating in Top 100 lists closer to the start of the seasonThe yearly top 10 Cubs prospect list came out today from Baseball America, who's lists are perhaps the most respected in the industry. Let's take a look at who they ranked where:BASEBALL AMERICA TOP 10 CUBS PROSPECTS1. Starlin Castro, ss 2. Brett Jackson, of 3. Josh Vitters, 3b...
Whether we are talking about health care or baseball or…what are we
2009-11-09 01:57:00 To think about this week: “Many small people, who in many small places do many small things, can alter the face of the world.”
Will baseball never change for the better?
2009-10-30 22:11:00 Baseball used to be my favorite sport. That was way back when it really was the national pastime. Pro football has that distinction now. The NFL gets it. I doubt the MLB owners ever will. I haven't seen a baseball game since my retirement from WLS-TV (Ch 7) nearly four years ago. The sport no longer exists for me, although I covered it for some 40 years, and was a fan long before that. Cubs centerfielder Andy Pafko was my boyhood idol. I have many fond memories. I cut school so I could watch the NL playoff game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants in 1951. Got to see Bobby Thomson hit the "home run heard 'round the world."...
Fallout from a post about baseball
2009-10-26 23:16:00 “It’s all because of me and my old man. God, I fucking hate him. He’s like, he’s like this mindless machine I can’t even relate to anymore. ‘Andrew, you’ve got to be number one. I won’t tolerate any losers in this family. Your intensity is for shit. Win! Win! Win!’ You son of a bitch. ...
Top 5 Most Annoying Fans In Baseball
2009-10-21 19:18:00 Typical Cards fan at a Morans vs. USA game. After two days of Tweets from insufferable Yankees fans, it was inevitable that this topic would come up. I can think of a lot of obnoxious fans in sports. Packers fans come immediately to mind. NASCAR fans are up there for sure (do they cheer for specific drivers, or just for NASCAR in general?). Minnesota Vikings fans, who conveniently forget that they've never won anything, would have to be on the list. But in order to keep this list manageable, let's restrict it to baseball fans. If you cheer for another team, you probably think Cubs fans should make the top 5. Ha! Wrong. Why would I call myself annoing? If you...
Baseball Needs Some Advice: "Less Is More"
2009-10-12 19:29:00 In case you have not noticed, the MLB postseason is underway!!! The problem is judging by the numbers (TV ratings) you are not watching. Why aren't you (baseball fan) compelled by the Colorado Rockies and Troy Tulowitski's mullet? Why are you (baseball fan) not interested in Jason Kubel going 0-the series? You (baseball fans) are not watching more Chip Caray in the last week than you ever did when he was manning the Cubs broadcasting booth? For all lack of an actual pennant race this season in any division, I figured when the stakes were raised....then people will watch. Unfortunately the ratings show, that even with a 14% increase in viewers overall for TBS playoffs, the numbers are compatible with...
Narragansett Beer & Red Sox Baseball Together Again
2009-10-08 13:18:00 Narragansett is finally back in Fenway Park - and I can't think of a better way to enjoy a game, or more importantly, a playoff game this October than cracking a 'Gans. Back in 2006 'Gansett began their triumphant return...

Fantasy Baseball: NL Second Base-The New Power Position

Bacchus, Beer, and Baseball
2009-08-14 06:15:00 You won't believe the results of a study published in the Annals of Emergency Medicine. Over the course of six major league baseball games, the alcohol consumption of 747 men was studied with a breath analyzer test at the entrance gate and then again during the 5th inning. And guess what? Forty-one percent of all the participants imbibed, but the 20- to 35-year old age group were the beer-drinking overachievers....

Baseball Bat Pepper Mill Adds Some Heat to Your Meal

2009-07-16 21:16:00 From Gizmodo: Did you watch the Home Run derby the other night? I didn't. But if I had, I would have wondered: How did they manage to show those cool balls' trails in real time? The mechanism involves a complicated math algorithm that tracks and predicts the ball's trajectory in

New York Yankee Sod: Create A Lawn Fit For Baseball Pros
2009-06-22 21:00:00 Every time you turn on the TV or walk into Yankee Stadium to watch the professionals hit it out of the ballpark, you can't help but admire A-Rod's steroid enhanced biceps, but another thing catches your eye; just how damn green that stadium grass is. Cushioned cork cores, which are used for manufacturing baseballs, were patented in the late 19th century by a former baseball star A. G. Spalding. 4. Nowadays, various synthetic materials have been invented and are widely used for manufacturing baseballs. However the quality of such balls is low. 5. During the 20th Century, two absolutely identical baseballs, American League and National League, were used by Major League Baseball. 6. Trivia Tuesday: Baseball Edition
2009-05-26 13:48:00 Since I attended two Nationals-Pirates games last week (and missed trivia night), I figured I would have a baseball-themed Trivia Tuesday. Think you know baseball? Try your luck on the rules of the game.True or False1. Runner on second, two out. The batter hits a home run, scoring R2 (the runner on second), but the batter-runner (B-R) is declared out for missing first base. Only one run counts.2. An outfielder may wear a first baseman?s mitt in the outfield.3. A B-R can never be declared out when he is hit by a thrown ball as he is running in foul territory.4. There is a no penalty for throwing a glove at a fair ball.5. The ball always becomes dead immediately when a balk is called.Multiple Choice6. One out, runner on first. The batter hits a sharp one-hopper to the first baseman. The first baseman tags R1 (runner on first), who is standing on first base, then tags the base before the B-R arrives.a. Double play.b. The B-R is out when first base is tagged. The runner is safe si...

Baseball Card Theater/Headlines/Game Thread: Marlins @ Cubs 12:00 CT/1:00 E
2009-05-02 14:42:00 Sorry, kids. BBCT was too brilliant to push down, I want everyone to get a chance to see it. So we'll use this as the game thread for today. So, I have to apologize. While (I hope) the animation is better, this is almost a carbon-copy of the ARam home run to left from BBCT1. But it's not my fault if the Cubs do all of their dramatic stuff exactly the same way. Enjoy! Other than abe's brilliance with Baseball Card Theater, there's some news out there. Of course, the writers are going to focus on Ryan Theriot. Despite it all and despite themselves, the Cubs used the unlikeliest of sources for some much-needed inspiration. Theriot had only one home run last season. "Now he thinks he's a power hitter," Derrek Lee said after collecting two hits to get his average above .200. Actually, Theriot is now tied with Lee in homers and has one more RBI. But that's how offensive the Cubs' offense has been of late. "We needed that. It was a big hit at the right time," Lee said. "It make...

Saturday Night's All Right for Baseball - Cubs at Brewers - 6:05 CT/7:05 ET
2009-04-12 00:43:00 That's pretty much all that could be said yesterday At the risk of repetition, that was no fun yesterday. That's not true - it was fun for a while, but not so much toward the end. I shan't say anything more about it, as I have put it out of my head. I focus only upon tonight. In that regard, the Beast is coming off of his first Opening Day win in five tries, so there is reason for optimism. Z is facing Dave Bush, who had a less than great appearance against the Giant earlier in the week. Let's hope that same Dave Bush shows up tonight (that same guy who is 1-10 against the Cubs since 2006). Let's hope the Cubs defense does also. Back to last night for a moment. Kevin Gregg? Sharpen up. Now. Marmol is warming up, and you don't get THAT many chances, just because you did all right in Florida. Just saying. Cubs lineup: Soriano, LF Fukudome, CF Lee, 1B Bradley, RF Ramirez, 3B Fontenot, 2B Theriot, SS Hill, C Zamb...

Sean's 2009 Fantasy Baseball Teams
2009-04-06 15:13:00 If you're ever going to get a flat tire, I highly recommend that it happens on I-66 Eastbound between Courthouse and Rosslyn on a late Sunday afternoon when the weather is perfect and you can maneuver your car into the shoulder on an exit ramp. Thanks to the Virginia State officer and AAA guy who were both extremely nice and arrived quickly. I wish I could write something funny here, but my tire is being fixed as I type this, and there's not much else to the story.Meanwhile, I participated in my second of two National League-only fantasy baseball league drafts this weekend and figured that I would share my results. I know that no one cares about other people's fantasy teams, so that's why I included the flat tire story above. Anyway, these are both keeper leagues which is why I have Hanley Ramirez at $19.Here is my roster in the league I really, really care about (this is the 19th year of the league and my 18th season in it; I have never finished in 1st):Bengie Molina C SF $10 ...

Cubs vs. Royals 4:05ET/3:05CT -- 7 Days Left Until Real Baseball
2009-03-30 20:32:00 Yes, this is off by a day. Good for you, Poindexter. You should call "First!" too. It's nearly here. You've got your fantasy team drafted (not that kind of fantasy, Carl), you've got your sick days timed for those important mid-day games, and you've got MLB Network on your TV (unless you live with me, as I still have not set up the switch to DirecTV, Comcast, or anything but Douche Network). Seven more days and you can begin to have your naive heart broken all over again. Just be careful, as it appears that caring too much can actually kill you. The Royals -- the lowly, lowly Royals. I am firmly convinced that any random nine guys could start for the Royals and the end of the season record would be the same. Are you listening, Royals organization? 2009-02-25 19:00:00 I love winter. If I had to pick one season to live in all year 'round, it would be . . well, it would be fall. But after that, it would be winter. I know, I know. I'm supposed to hate winter. I'm supposed to hate the driving difficulties and the shoveling and the cost of heating my house. But the truth is, I grew up in a small town on the Illinois/Wisconsin border, right where the prairie meets the woods. To me, winter means dragging my sled through the woods to find a really big hill, ice skating on frozen ponds (fun fact: skating on frozen bubbling brooks is NOT recommended: too lumpy), and hauling myself up into tree forts, which miraculously appeared in the woods overnight, to survey the frozen wonderland. Come to think of it, they were probably more deer stands than tree forts, but I digress. But, as much as I love winter, by the end of February, it starts to get a little old. As much as I love curling up in front of a roaring fire with a good book on wintry nights, I'm fi...
