Unicycle Basketball: Great Idea [Video]
2012-04-14 00:59:00
It amazes us the ways people come up with to screw up a perfectly good sport. For example, someone actually said to themselves, “Hey, I love playing basketball and I love riding a unicycle. Why not combine the two!?” Seems like a great idea, no? Take a sport that requires a high degree of skill ...

Here's the release from UConn: STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut has been informed by the NCAA's Committee on Academic Performance (CAP) that it has denied the school's final appeal of a postseason ban on its men's basketball team for the 2012-13 season because of the team's past cumulative Academic Performance Rate (APR) scores. "I want to be clear that everyone at UConn is and will always be committed to academic excellence for all of our student-athletes and in particular our men's basketball players," said UConn Director of Athletics Warde Manuel, a past member of the NCAA's Academic Cabinet and Academic Eligibility and Compliance Committee. Fantasy Basketball: Pick-N-Roll and All Questions Answered Thread
2012-04-04 07:52:00
Tuesday had a ton of injuries and we spent most of the show talking about what those injuries might mean and how you can use the info from Tuesday night's action to help you in the future. I also gave a lot of tips on how you can be at an advantage (especially in daily leagues). There were a lot of great questions in this edition as well and there's a very good chance that you're in a similar position and might need to make move just like it. If you have a question for the All Questions Answered Thread below, chances are that need is going to trump a simple "should I add Ben Gordon and cut Biyombo" question, so think about any other information that might help me answer the question before you ask. Thanks. Follow @MikeSGallagher Listen to internet radio with PickandRoll on Blog Talk Radio Thanks for reading/listening and I'll get to all your questions on Wednesday.

The Chicago Bulls have reached the league?s best 40-win mark this season with a thrilling overtime win over the Toronto Raptors. One would assume that considering the Raptors currently hold a 16-33 record for the season, they wouldn?t pose much a thread against the Chicago Bulls and their NBA?s best 40-10 record. Sure enough, the ...

It’s Not China. It’s Just Banking. And Basketball. And People.
2012-03-16 01:23:00
Sometimes all of us can get too close to a subject. Sometimes anything that happens in China gets writ large to become “a China thing.”  Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Let me explain. The other day, The New York Times ran a story, “Four Mao Too Many” (h/t Shanghaiist),  which essentially consisted of a very literary rant about the Kafkaesque bureaucracy of Chinese banks. I am certain most readers finished the article convinced that Chinese banks (and maybe China in general) are somehow a breed apart. I completed the article and immediately thought of the following two personal banking bureaucracy stories, neither of which have boo to do with China: 1. When I was an undergrad studying in Tours, France, I lived occasional wire to wire from my parents. Literally. It had been days since my money had run out and tired of borrowing from friends, I was eagerly looking forward to going to my French bank to take out freshly wired funds. I arrived at my bank at 1...

2012-03-04 22:02:00
Here's the release from UConn about the UConn Huskies men's basketball players named to the various All-Big East Teams. STORRS, Conn. - It was announced today by the BIG EAST Conference that UConn sophomore guard Jeremy Lamb has been named a member of the All-BIG EAST First Team. Lamb is the only sophomore selected to the six-member squad. Freshman Andre Drummond was selected to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team. Lamb was a member of the Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team and has been selected throughout the season to the major National Player of the Year watch lists, including the Naismith Award and the Oscar Robertson Trophy. As a freshman, Lamb earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team. Lamb has led UConn to an 18-12 record and the No. 9 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament set to begin Tuesday at Noon in Madison Square Garden when the Huskies face No. 16 DePaul. On the season, Lamb has recorded 17.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. He's shooting 48-pe...
2011-12 Big East Women?s Basketball Regular Season Awards
2012-03-02 00:40:00
While we have to wait until 5 p.m. on Friday for the big awards, the Big East Conference announced four awards plus the All-Big East teams. And as you would expect, there's a distinct UConn Huskies women's basketball flavor to the teams. Senior Tiffany Hayes was named to the All-Big East First Team and is joined by her teammate sophomore Bria Hartley. Freshman Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis was named to the All-Big East Second Team. KML also picked up the Big East Sixth Man Award and should win Freshman of the Year honors tomorrow. She and Kiah Stokes were named to the All-Big East Freshman Team. There was one other member of the Huskies honored for her play and that was sophomore Stefanie Dolson who received honorable mention honors. Given what Kelly Faris does for the Huskies on a nightly basis, I'm really shocked she was not recognized by the coaches in the conference. The Big East Player of the Year, Big East Freshman of the Year, Big East Coach of the Year and Big East Scholar-Athle...

NIKE+ BASKETBALL & TRAINING
2012-02-29 19:54:00
Nike has recently unveiled its latest upgrade to the digital Nike+ training department and it's pretty darn awesome! New sensor enabled footwear and bluetooth technology allows athletes to track almost every aspect of their practice and activity. Take basketball for example: after a game a player can view his or her real-time stats--how high they jumped, fast they ran--and share or compare it with friends via their smartphones. Pretty impressive. But that's not all, Nike+ has also created a series of downloadable training sessions with some of the world's most renowned athletes like Manny Pacquiao, Lebron James and Allyson Felix to interactively guide users like personal trainers. Like we said, pretty awesome!
