Belgium Throws A Party For Bullhead
2012-03-11 18:27:00
The 2011 Oscars are behind us. We know the winners and losers. We know who went home with a statue and who did not. In reality it is not the winning or losing that matters, it is being invited to the game, just being part of the team is what counts. I have been a ...
Bullhead ? Pride Of Belgium
2012-02-24 23:04:00
Belgium is a small, really small, country. In land mass you could fit Belgium into the state of California just over 15 times! Small it maybe, but it is a country that is proud of its traditions and achievements. There are few counties for example that can boast a literacy rate of 99%. Even better, did ...
Oscar Nod For Belgium Film Bullhead
2012-02-01 19:50:00
An Oscar nomination is every film makers dream. Alas the number of dreams that are realized is very few. This is particularly true for independent movies. The problem lays not in the quality of the films, but in the almost insurmountable problem of finding screening opportunities for eyeballs to watch it. This is doubly true when ...

Khadaffi's daughter launches law suit against NATO
2011-06-15 12:17:00
Aisha Khadaffi, "the man's daughter", filed a law suit against NATO. Legal papers were submitted to the prosecutor's office in Brussels her French lawyer. Ms Khadaffi's four-month daughter, Mastoura, was one of Khadaffi's four grandchildren killed during a NATO bombing raid. (Even though Berlusconi - for one credible news source- alleges this to be propaganda) The lawsuit is quoted saying "The target was a civil building inhabited by civilians and was neither a command post nor a military... The Cosy Brass Quartet (Belgium)
2010-12-23 00:27:00
The Cosy Brass Quartet invites you on its voyage of discovery through the musical world from the 19th century till today. Since its foundation in 1999, the Cosy Brass Quartet aims for a revival of the saxhorn brass quartet, giving it its merited role on the concert-scene. Its strength (two cornets, tenorhorn and euphonium) allows the Cosy Brass Quartet to produce a warm and vivid sound, resulting in an extraordinary musical experience and offering well balanced ensemble-playing. As from its first musical appearance, the quartet is described as "most pleasant" and "sounding surprisingly fresh". The Cosy Brass Quartet is exceptional in its musical qualities as well as in its repertoire. The program offers well-known names as well as works of the most respected Belgian composers, always in a light and entertaining performance. The Cosy Brass Quartet collaborates with the Dutch KRO- and the Belgian CANVAS-television. It cooperates with both the Belgian Radio 2 and KLARA classical...
Institutional Sex Corruption: Plight of Roman Catholic Church and Sathya Sa
2010-09-19 01:00:00
In the face of far too powerful, worldwide exposure of endemic Roman Catholic Church corruption, Pope Benedict XVI has called for reconciliation. Only at this chronically late hour, and in the face of terrible and universal threat to his institution's survival, does he begin to treat sexual abuse as a reportable crime, and make apologies, and require his officials to take meaningful actions against the sexual abuse that the world now nows is rampant in his Church. It is the year 2010 and yet official communiques coming from the Vatican and other official sections of the Roman Catholic Church almost make it sound as though decades of sexual abuse complaints involving priests all over the world were something new. There may be contrite tears now, and official cries for reconciliation. But where were these down the decades of victims' anguish? The Sathya Sai Organization still has not come to this point. It too has lain low. It too has turned a hard heart of the cries of individua...

Road trip to Belgium - Brugge, West Flanders, Belgium
2009-04-04 15:26:00
Jump to the full entry & travel map Brugge, West Flanders, BelgiumVisiting Belgium has been on our list of things to do since we arrived in France. I did a little research on the best things to see, do, and eat and Kyle rented a car. Here's what went down: We left the rainy, foggy valley of the Seine and literally took the highway toward the direction of sunshine. Cruising North toward Etretat (France), we had the darkest of clouds over our shoulders and sun in our eyes. After about an hour or so we arrived at the beach front town of Etretat. A slow-paced town nudged between sun-bleached cliffs and arches that extend into the sea. The beach is made up of the most eye catching, smooth, sun baked pebbles. I pocketed a handful of my very favorite. We listened as the waves were sucked back to the ocean, a low whistle as the water rushed past the rattling stones. Back on the road headed to Belgium, we passed by acres of lush farmland. The fie...

Belgium Grand Prix: Spectacular until the end.
2008-09-07 15:36:00
The rain appeared during the final two laps of the race and gave the fans the most exciting finish of the season today at the Belgium Grand Prix.Lewis Hamilton had a lot of ground to make up on Kimi Raikkonen after his second and final pit stop. Raikkonen was in control and looked like he was untouchable. But the British driver worked hard and managed to close the gap with the Ferrari driver with only a handful of laps to go.The rain appeared during the last couple of laps and complicated the task for the drivers on the track. The conditions deteriorated quickly and the cars who were still on slick tires at that point were slipping all over the place. The battle between Raikkonen and Hamilton during the final laps was epic. Both cars exchanged the lead twice due to the slippery conditions as both of them slipped and spun virtually at every corner. Kimi Raikkonen finally made a fatal mistake and spun his Ferrari into the wall during the final lap of the race, handing out the victory t...

The Ferrari driven by Massa is one third of a second behind Hamilton. As for the second row, McLaren and Ferrari are there once again. Heikki Kovalainen edged the defending champion, Kimi Raikkonen by less than two tenths of a second. We have a BMW-Sauber in fifth place but this time it was not Robert Kubica's car. New tastes
2008-06-15 10:33:00
I am indebted to two good presbyterian friends for improving my palette. First, some years ago, Gordon introduced me to the delights of single malt whisky. Gordon had acquired the taste when his employers put in a new computer system for the Distillers Company. I now drink it when i can afford it from time to time. Islay malts with their peaty flavour are my favorites, plus Talisker from Skye but I will drink any Freemans :-) i am no expert. Do single casks really taste superior to cheaper malts?Bill then introduced me to Belgian beer. IMO English beer is good to quench the thirst, but Belgian is for sipping and savouring. Here is what i brought back from Belgium.Deugniet 7.3%Petrus Goulden tripel 7.5%Chimay Peres Trappistes Tripel 8%Cookie 8%Scotch Silly 8%Vicaris Generaal 8.8%Abbey - Abdij du Val - Dieu Triple 9%Abbey - Abdij van Leffe 9%Balthazar 9%La Trappe Quadrupel 10%The so called Amber Nectar can be put back in the billabong folks. Belgian garden break
2008-06-02 00:00:00
Green-fingered explorers should head to Belgium's Chateau d'Annevoie for a real horticultural holiday. The spectacular castle is famed for its exquisite water gardens, established in the second half of the 18th century by Charles-Alexis de Montpellier. The owner/designer was so inspired by the French, English and Italian gardens he had seen on his travels, he amalgamated the three styles in his castle grounds.Visitors will be romanced by the results - a grand canal, grotto, 20 ornamental pools with nearly 50 water jets and a succession of fountains and cascades. All these stunning water features work naturally and have been flowing without fail for the past 230 years. The Gardens of Annevoie are located between Namur and Dinant on the left bank of the River Meuse.Another highlight on a Belgian garden tour is an excursion to Beervelde Park, which plays host to the hugely popular Spring and Autumn Garden Days every year.

Ten days well spent in Ghent
2008-05-23 00:00:00
Mix with millions this July in Belgium's medieval city of Ghent for one of Europe's biggest and oldest festivals. In fact, the event comprises four international festivals - jazz, street theatre, puppets and dance. On top of all that, there is a fabulous parade, music, fireworks, comedy, exhibitions, boat trips on the river Lys and plenty of the fine food and beer Belgium has become famous for.The festivities date back to the 19th century when the city's bourgeoisie used horse races, jousts and hot air balloon displays to lure prosperous merchants their way.The Ghent event, which kicks off on July 19th, has changed radically in format since those days but still continues to pull in the people. As well as these festivities, the historic Flanders city is renowned for its cathedral, castle and stunning old harbour. Several other important buildings in the city have been recognised by Unesco as World Heritage Sites.

Chicken Tikka Masala in Belgium
2008-05-06 18:33:00
A few years ago, a survey of favourite British food was conducted. Would it be roast beef, fish & chips, steak & kidney pie? No, the favourite food in Britain turned out to be Chicken Tikka Masala, an Indian dish apparently not found in India, made with garam masala spice and very tasty it is too. This week I found a tasting of the very dish in my local Carrefour in Hasselt. My kids loved it too.
