Angry Birds For Web Browsers Out: Productivity Set To Drop Worldwide
2011-05-12 14:04:00
Angry Birds, the simple two dimensional game by Finnish Developers Rovio Mobile, is really going places. What started out as a wildly popular iPhone game went on to become the #1 Paid App for months on end. As its popularity grew, so did the platforms it was available on. It came out for Maemo 5 (Nokia N900), Android, Symbian S^3 and even Palm’s WebOS. After capturing the Mobile Market, it then came out on Intel’s AppUp Netbook Store. After that, it came out on Apple’s Mac AppStore. There are rumors of them launching a Facebook version soon, and there is even an Angry Birds board game. Yesterday on Day 2 of Google I/O 2011, Rovio  Mobile launched Angry Birds on the largest platform there is: The Worldwide Web. “We wanted to bring Angry Birds to the web for a long, long time, but we didn’t want to compromise performance. We aren’t making fish in a bowl — it’s all about Angry Birds. Really, really Angry Birds. We’ve been so an...

VideoPress now on iPhone, iPad, and HTML5 browsers
2011-03-09 04:14:00
Back in the middle of 2009, we launched our very own HD video service called VideoPress. Since then we’ve made a bunch of improvements including the ability to natively share videos in Facebook. Today we are happy to announce a new set of capabilities that we’ve all been eager to see. Starting right now, all those great videos you’ve created and will be embedding in your WordPress.com site will play back on mobile and touch devices including iPhones, iPads, Android devices, and the new Nokia phones. Our engineer Mike demonstrates Flash performance on Mobile Safari VideoPress also now supports Apple’s AirPlay streaming technology to share video between supporting locally networked devices such as iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and Apple TV. Videos with associated transcripts, such as WordPress TV, include WebVTT <track> data for display by supporting browsers. But that’s not all. If you are running any of the new browsers such as Chrome 3.0+, Firefox...

Internet Explorer 9 Beats Other Browsers In HTML5 Compliance?
2010-11-05 07:30:00
In its first ever tests to ascertain browsers’ conformity to HTML5, the World Wide Web (W3) Consortium has announced that Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 is well ahead of other major browsers in terms of the compliance. Seven major features of HTML5 specifications viz. attributes, audio, canvas, getelementsbyclassname, foreigncontent, video and  xhtml5 were covered in the test conducted. Elements like web workers, local storage, the file API and other specs like CSS were not tested. CSS has nothing to do with HTML5 but Apple, Google and Microsoft hide it under the cover of HTML5.All is not well about IE9 but it scored better than the lot. However, Google’s Chrome stands almost similar to it except that it stays behind in the xhtml5 test. Finally, Microsoft seemed to have acknowledged the existence of web standards. This way, it can be inferred that Microsoft could be working hard back stage to win back developers, which it does not normally attract. Moreover, there has been ...

Opera Acquires Admarvel – To Monetize Its Mobile Browsers
2010-01-20 12:55:00
Opera range of mobile browsers are the most visible set of apps amongst Indian mobile subscribers so much so that even some Indian telcos officially endorses its products. Today Opera announced that it has acquired Admarvel, a company providing solutions in mobile advertising space. The acquisition despite being small at $ 8 Million will provide Opera a way to monetize its mobile browsers – Opera mini and Opera mobile. Opera has been able to garner consistent share in mobile browser segment despite lackluster performance on desktop browser front. Admarvel’s product offering allows mobile Ad publishers to target users on the basis of countries, devices and carriers. Admarvel is a very interesting proposition for mobile publishers because they can easily target smart phone users more aggressively at the same time neglect small handset owners so as to avoid any ire. Opera in recent time has ventured into tie-ups with telcos across the globe. This acquisition could thus hel...

The Battle of the Browsers
2008-05-01 02:37:00
The History and the Future of Internet Browsersby: Nicholas C Smith With Internet Explorer 8 now available, can Microsoft hope to retain market dominance over fierce open source rivals such as Mozilla's Firefox or the feature packed Opera web browser. Can history give us a clue to what the future of web browsers/browsing might hold? How did Netscape Navigator go from having a dominant 89.36% market share of all web browsers in 1996 and yet only 3.76% by mid 1999? Let us take a journey that will begin long before even the intellectual conception of Internet Explorer, that will glance at its long defeated rivals, examine the current browsers available and will end with a prediction of what the future of browsing will offer us ? and which browser(s) will still be around to offer it. People often think that Internet Explorer has been the dominant web browser since the golden age of the internet began. Well for a very long time now it has indeed been the most popular browser and at tim...

PayPal now is blocking old browsers to prevent phishing attacks were fraudulent mails were sent for their customers.
