British tourists flock to Bulgaria
2008-06-04 02:00:00 Rental investors in Bulgaria are seeing a surge in demand for tourist accommodation this summer, it has emerged. Online travel agency Lastminute.com revealed that the number of June bookings for the country is 151 per cent up on 12 months earlier. This means that some owners of holiday accommodation in Bulgaria will see higher occupancy rates this year, as well as greater rental returns. According to Lastminute.com, the increase in the number of bookings is partly because consumers in the UK want to avoid Euro 2008, which kicks off in Austria and Switzerland this weekend. John Bevan, managing director of the firm, commented: "It would appear that it is too painful for fans to stay home and watch Euro 2008 without their team competing." This comes after the Times said that Bulgaria is a much more affordable holiday destination than places such as Italy, Portugal, France and Spain.
British tourists pointed towards Bulgaria
2008-05-30 02:00:00 British holidaymakers have been advised to consider travelling to Bulgaria by a national newspaper. According to the Times, the eastern European country offers a number of attractions which would appeal to the whole family. In addition, Bulgaria was said to be much more affordable than places such as Italy, Portugal, France and Spain. This is because the pound has slumped to a record low against the single European currency - falling by nearly a fifth in the last year. As a result, travelling to a country inside the eurozone may not offer the value for money Britons have enjoyed in the past. The Times commented: "It's been a bad year for the pound. "Last summer, a €20 meal would have set you back £14. Now it would be £16.50." By contrast, Bulgaria was said to offer bargain prices and comparable leisure facilities. This comes after the Association of British Travel Agents revealed that emerging economies and mid to long-haul destinations are ...

Young British Buy in Bulgaria Rent at Home
2008-05-16 11:29:00 The Bulgarian property market is still buoyant and looks set to grow even further. It seems there is no better time than now to invest in Balkan bricks and mortar. Despite this positive forecast, many first time buyers remain reluctant to actually put down roots in Bulgaria. This could be due to preconceptions about the country which include, fear of the language barrier, its reputation for being a haven for senior citizens and worries about employment prospects. However, before writing off the possibility, younger and first time buyers should consider that there are infinite options open to them in Bulgaria.

Bulgaria named the cheapest country in Europe
2008-04-18 02:00:00 Leisure travellers from the UK could find that their pound goes a long way in Bulgaria, according to experts. The Post Office carried out a study to compare relative prices across the world, as the pound has recently got much weaker against other currencies. In fact, it is now at an all-time low against the euro, which means it will cost Britons much more to spend time in places such as Italy and France. However, the Post Office found that other countries across the world offer more favourable exchange rates which allow a person's money to go further. And not all were long-haul destinations, as countries such as Bulgaria were flagged up as highly affordable locations. The eastern European nation was named as the cheapest destination in the whole of Europe, just ahead of Turkey. This comes after similar research by Teletext Holidays which found the cost of food and drink in places such as Sofia is much less than in many other European cities.
Bulgaria to attract more Irish tourists
2008-04-15 02:00:00 Overseas property investors could be set to benefit from growing tourism in Bulgaria. According to the Novinite news agency, the eastern European country is becoming especially popular with holidaymakers from Ireland. Petar Kandilarov, governor of Varna, was quoted as saying that the number of Irish visitors could possibly double in 2008. This is likely to be a positive development for owners of rental accommodation in popular Bulgarian holiday resorts such as Bansko. Increased tourist numbers will lead to greater demand for temporary lodgings across the country, which in turn allows investors to collect higher returns. Official figures cited by Novinite show that 90,000 Irish holidaymakers visited Bulgaria last year. The predictions comes just officials in the UK forecast that more British tourists would soon head for eastern Europe. Helen Warburton of the Post Office told the Daily Mail that lots of holidaymakers are opting to visit destinations with more favourable exchang...

Technorati tags:Lepa Brena concert Sofia Bulgaria

Bulgaria offers investment opportunities
2008-04-08 02:00:00 Overseas property buyers have been told of potentially lucrative investment opportunities in Bulgaria. Property Secrets said that demand for housing in the capital city Sofia is currently outstripping the existing level of supply. The organisation has stated that this is partly because people from rural areas are increasingly opting to move to the city. As a result, properties in Sofia are becoming highly sought-after and more and more expensive. This will be regarded as a positive development by overseas property investors who own a residence in the area, as it creates the potential to sell it on at a considerable profit. Neil Lewis, chief executive of Property Secrets, commented: "Sofia is a favourite hot spot for property investors as it potentially offers ultra-high returns, combined with excellent long-term prospects." According to the Association of International Property Professionals, Bulgaria was the fourth most popular foreign destination for UK buyers last...

Competition affecting growth in Bulgaria
2008-03-17 01:00:00 Bulgaria's share of the foreign property market is falling as a result of growing competition, industry experts have stated.According to the Association of International Property Professionals (AIPP), the proportion of investors choosing the Bulgarian market went down last year. However, the organisation said this does not mean that the country is becoming less popular with overseas property buyers.Paul Owen, chief executive of the AIPP, stated that this is an indicator of the growing level of competition which Bulgaria now faces. He commented: "It has had a free reign as the emerging market for a couple of years and nowhere now is the emerging market."Mr Owen added that countries in places such as Asia and South America are now competing to gain a larger share of the overseas property sector. This comes after the Association of International Property Professionals revealed that the number of overseas transactions went up by 21 per cent to 240,000 last year.

2008-03-09 15:55:00 The Bulgarian property market has been on an increase over the last few years. The prices are expected to continue to rise in 2008, although is will be less than the 30% of 2007. The potential is great in this region, particularly with the industrial and commercial property. The city of Sofia is rapidly growing and shows some of the better potential. “Many people are looking at Bulgaria for vacation investments. The region offers amazing natural amenities, including hiking and bike trails, coastline along the Black Sea, beaches, historical attractions, and skiing. The weather is also temperate.” The economy has also been playing a large roll in the increase of the property market. Tourism continues to rise, and the local, regional and national governments are all working hard to improve conditions to take advantage of the tourism dollar. The Holocaust in Bulgaria
2008-03-03 13:19:00 The fate of the Bulgarian Jews Artist rendition of the Jewish Diaspora The history of Jews in Bulgaria predates both that of the Bulgars and the Slavs in the region. Jews formed a vibrant community during the Middle Ages, and were respected by many of the ruling leaders of the day, one of the Tsars even married a Jewish woman who later became known as Queen Theodora. The largest part of the Bulgarian Jewish community before the 15th century belonged to the Byzantine (Romaniot) Jewish rite. Only a minority spoke Bulgarian. The Romaniots had their own customs and even maintained a special prayer book, which eventually was replaced by the Sephardi prayer book. The largest influx of Jews to the Balkans began after 1492, when they were driven away from Spain. At this point, the Turkish sultan allowed the refugees to settle in the Ottoman Empire, and they were tolerantly treated both by the authorities and by the population of the Peninsula as a whole. ...
