Carnival (CCL): Clear sailing ahead?
2009-08-10 14:00:00
"Like a sailboat waiting for a gust of wind, Carnival (NYSE: CCL) hasn't had any means of propulsion lately; in fact, they've been anchored by swine flu and sluggish travel demand," notes value investor Nathan Slaughter. Nevertheless, in his Half-Priced Stocks, he remains optimisticbullish, noting "Eventually these storm clouds will clear."  Here's his bullish long-term outlook for the cruise ship operator."Fortunately, these negatives are macro-level factors, not company-specific issues. All things considered, the world's largest cruise operator is performing admirably in this tepid environment. "The company has carried more than two million passengers to exotic destinations around the globe over the past three months. "That's about 45,000 more than last year, enough to soak up most of the recently added capacity. Unfortunately, while the firm's cabins have been fully occupied, passengers haven't been spe...

Carnival of Healing #191
2009-05-31 02:44:00
Ever since I started participating in the Carnival of Healing, majority of the articles I’ve received happen to be about fitness, losing weight and diets that work or don’t work and some on herbal techniques to cure various diseases.  Exercise, good nutritious diet and medicines are certainly helpful in the healing process but for a complete healing to take place,  inside and out, we need to understand the strong mind and body connection and find a way to live a balanced life. Since diet articles weren’t doing much to my emotional and spiritual life, I’ve found other ways to find peace and calm and take care of stressful situations.  I’ve found that helping others in need in turn helps me feel better.  It’s easier to forget your own problems when you are busy helping others.  So, I’ve been volunteering some of my time to various causes as I believe that the real responsibility to heal ourselves lies with us taking some action and not ju...

More pics from Carnival World Buffet at Rio. $48 for two @ dinner. On this trip, my favorite things were the corn dog and cranberry bread. And maybe ham was fine, too. But everything else sucked. Also we think if the tag says "chef's special", that means people who work there don't know what it is, so they just say "chef's special". Carnival of Healing #181
2009-03-21 19:11:00
Last year when I started participating in the carnival of healing, I was going through myriad of emotions and was very angry at the helplessness that I felt after my dad suddenly passed away.   He was in very good health except a headache that lasted for a week and wouldn’t go away.  He had walked a couple of miles the day he was taken to the ER.  In the hospital, everything happened so fast, the doctors could not keep pace with his deteriorating health from some infection he had caught in the hospital.  We were devastated.  I cannot believe it’s already been a year since then.  Throughout his stay in the hospital he stayed very optimistic, as he always was and rather gave us strength. I had seen people dying before but this was different.  This was very different as I loved (and still do) my dad more than anyone else in the world.  I felt closer to my dad than to my mother or siblings.  I felt he understood me and my feelings more than anyone else could.  So...

Carnival of Healing #161
2008-10-25 23:30:00
photo: kretyen Welcome to yet another great edition of carnival of healing . Let me start by thanking all who submitted useful and practical advice filled articles to this edition of the carnival. I noticed a lot of the articles submitted were on physical well being and that is rightfully a huge part of our healing but I also feel that binge eating and not exercising and not taking care of our bodies etc. stem primarily from the way we are on the inside, how we feel about our current situations. So, one of the major steps towards healing is to continuously be open to learning new skills for the changing circumstances throughout life : Skills to stop the negative thinking cycle and calm the storms on the inside, to forgive people as well as circumstances that are beyond our control to break free from limiting beliefs to love ourselves I am sure there are many more skills that help with healing and without further ado, here is some great reading material this weekend. Here's his bullish review. "Last quarter, Carnival shelled out $530 per metric ton for fuel, up sharply from $330 per ton a year ago. And after pumping about 800,000 metric tons, the company rang up a total fuel bill of $425 million.
