?The Guru Papers?: censorship and manipulative control of followers? minds
2009-10-28 09:09:00
Yet more quotations on gurus which apply with full force to Sathya Sai Baba, who inists he is perfect and pure, despite countless testimonies to the contrary! The title “The Guru Papers – Masks of Authopritarian Power” encapsulates the matter most succinctly. By holding gurus as perfect and thus beyond ordinary explanations, their presumed specialness ...
From Russia with Censorship
2009-09-17 03:07:00
FreeMediaOnline.org, Free Media Online Blog, GovoritAmerika.us, Commentary by Ted Lipien, September 16, 2009, San Francisco — Censorship from Russia and China comes home to America in profit-oriented and staying-in-the-market-at-any-co-st decisions by American businesses and sometimes even US government agencies, as FreeMediaOnline.org, a San Francisco-based media freedom nonprofit, has been documenting and reporting. Few ...
How Self-Censorship Works - Putin, GQ, and US Taxpayer-Supported Radio Libe
2009-09-15 08:46:00
Censorship and self-censorship have become a permanent feature of the media scene in Russia under Mr. Putin’s rule. Many Americans, however, were surprised last week that this kind of censorship with origins in Moscow has now reached corporate boardrooms in their own country and even put limits on news generated by US taxpayer supported Radio ...
Sai Baba censorship of facts, spreading of half-truths and untruth
2009-09-13 15:47:00
Everyone who stays at – or even visits – a Sathya Sai Baba ashram must tread most cautiously both literally and figuratively. The excreta of rubbish-scrounging pi-dogs and troops of monkeys are hardly a problem compared to the conspiracies of silence and secrecy which are enforced on all who enter there so as to keep ...
Self-Censorship About Putin at Condé Nast GQ Magazine, Limited Coverage by
2009-09-06 05:49:00
The popular New York blog site Gawker is reporting that “in an act of publishing cowardice, Condé Nast has gone to extraordinary lengths to prevent Russians from reading a “GQ” article criticizing Vladimir Putin.” Condé Nast publishes such widely read magazines as “Vanity Fair,” “The New Yorker,” and “Vogue.” In Russia, it publishes “GQ,” ...

Muzzling social media - Censorship by the Medium?
2009-07-14 10:41:00
As someone involved with Social Media, how comfortable are you with pushing the boundaries of the channel? Are you the sort who takes a look at what you can do and then plod along doing just that? In which case, there is enough and more already available to keep you happily occupied for the rest of your lifetime. Or are you the sort who, having quickly discovered the possibilities, pushes on to innovatively make the medium your own? In the second case, how would you feel if the medium in question (or its representatives) took you on or worse, censored your innovation? I’m guessing here, but you are likely to end up as a rather bitter user (make that an ex-user)! It doesn’t have to be something illegal or expressly banned. Any marketer or even user who goes down that route is clearly courting controversy, trouble or both. But what if it is a fresh new approach or a revolutionary new usage which was not intended by the founders? In the sense that although it was not part of the or...

Support Gay Rights, Not Censorship
2009-06-30 04:14:00
http://www.flickr.com/photos/kc-jc/ / CC BY 2.0 As we remember Stonewall and the beginning of the modern gay rights movement, the progressive community is understandably frustrated with the pace of our administration in bringing about real change. They have a point. Enough already with the military’s ridiculous “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. And it’s about time we legalize gay marriage. Yet after the stunning parades this weekend and the first official recognition of the movement by a sitting working US President, I’m filled with more hope than ever before. Which is why I didn’t allow my blood pressure to rise when WFLA/News Channel 8 aired an “it would be disturbing if it weren’t so silly” documentaryinfomercial Saturday night about wicked gays trying to silence Christians. I urged my fellow libs to take deep breaths and see this program for what it was – a spoiled brat stomping his feet and holding his breath ...
China's Netizens Declare they will Fight Back vs Censorship
2009-06-24 02:16:00
With the protests in Iran, there has been a lot of discussion in the news of late about the power of technology in circumventing government control and censorship. Of course no one knows this kind of censorship better than Chinese netizens, especially after these past few weeks that saw the blocking of popular social media sites and the introduction of the 'Green Dam' filtering software.in the face of such censorship, some more creative Chinese netizens (I have no idea who, or how many) have used Google Docs to release a declaration of war against this government imposed internet filtering.

China's 'Green Dam' Censorship Software Looks Pretty Damn Lame
2009-06-10 06:50:00
The Wall Street Journal wrote a piece earlier this week entitled 'China Squeezes PC Makers' where they outlined the Chinese governments' recent requirement that PC makers to ship their machines with internet filtering software. The Green Dam software is intended to filter out explicit language and pornographic images, but early user reports indicate that this software might not be as slick as many might have expected.
Censorship Comes To Online Classifieds
2009-05-14 06:37:00
Craigslist, a dominant player in online classified segment would soon get rid of its “erotic services” section. This would in turn be replaced by a section called Adult Services with heavy moderation. This means all ads under the section would attract moderation before being published which in turn would lead to higher costs and slow postings. This comes in the wake of serious charges being framed against craigslist as various cases cropped up revealing the use of online classified as brothel and murder centric purposes despite the use of social moderation on site. The major heat turned on the craigslist when cases of violent crime erupted recently and was even termed as “the single largest source of prostitution in the nation” by a Illinois sheriff. Craigslist currently serves billions of page views and has till date published some 1.15 billion classified ads much bigger in size even to print ads. This type of government scrutiny is to make web safer but wou...

Net Censorship In America?

Sathya Sai Organization and censorship

Persons mature and fearless enough openly to discuss awkward facts in a helpful and constructive spirit are in great dearth almost everywhere and no less so in Sathya Sai Baba’s ashrams and organization. In China, Censorship is Called Security

Senator Sam Brownback (Kansas) is warning that China is planning to mount a massive espionage operation on guests staying at major hotels during the upcoming Olympic Games next month. IOC And China Censorship: What A Kroc.
2008-07-30 23:45:00
The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it’s indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it’s indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it’s indifference. Elie Wiesel When I was maybe 11 or 12, I read about Ray Kroc's founding of McDonalds. Whatever I read made Kroc out to be some sort of saint and even sought to explain away his initial unwillingess to hire African-Americans as not having arisen out of any racism on his part, but out of his realization that the American public was not ready to have Blacks serving them food. I thought Kroc was horrible for taking this position and even worse for trying to spin it. I saw (and still do) Kroc as worse than the racist who would not hire African-Americans at all; Kroc knew his position was morally indefensible, but rather than make an effort to educate or inculcate or use his position for change, he let it all just slide. Stories out today on how the...

The need to protest
2008-05-27 21:26:00

Canadian Heritage Minister hates censorship bill C-10, says Senator
2008-04-11 21:52:00
Heritage Minister Josée Verner hates bill C-10, according to a comment made by Conservative Senator David Angus. A member of the Senate committee on banking, trade and commerce, Angus was listening to arguments against the proposed film censorship law from Canadian film producers when he committed a classic political faux pas?he said something incriminating while his microphone was still on. "The minister agrees. She told me she hates the law," said Angus to a colleague, as his voice was still being streamed live on the internet. "What we want is a sort of moratorium?" As an experienced politician, Angus took the high road when asked about his comments. Standing strong in the face of incriminating evidence, he denied everything. "I did not quote the minister because I did not even talk to the minister," he told CBC News. "I haven't heard myself say [the comment] and I'm certainly not acknowledging that I said it." What was he thinking? That as an unelected Senator appointed fo...

Censorship alive and well under Bush
2008-04-04 09:48:00
U.S. Funded Health Search Engine Blocks 'Abortion' | Threat Level from Wired.com A U.S. government-funded medical information site that bills itself as the world's largest database on reproductive health has quietly begun to block searches on the word "abortion," concealing nearly 25,000 search results. One of my favorite hypocrisies of the Bush administration is the global war for freedom and democracy while fighting a domestic war against freedom and democracy. One thing we want to absolutely make sure of, and that is not to educate people. Telling people the truth will only get them into trouble, and certainly anything we think might be morally objectionable should be hidden. What's most amazing to me is that this sort of thing actually has support in the US. One wonders how George can maintain, even at this late date, a 28% approval rating. This is why. He is still appealing to this lowest common denominator. There are still a pretty large group of people in the US who ...
Emperor Capello Manager of England MI5 BBC Censorship
2008-03-31 23:57:00
Despite heavy censorship at the BBC by MI5, we here at the IrishBlog can now exclusively reveal, that far from being highly competent, Capello is in fact a fraud and a complete phoney. Tired of feeling positive toward the same manager for more than three months, English fans have concluded that abuse and mockery are what the coach of the national side needs as soon as possible if he fails to win his first friendly and meet their unrealistic expectations. The British press, reflecting as accurately as ever the groundswell of fickle public opinion, will no longer view the Italian as "cool, suave, collected with a refusal to panic under pressure". Instead, he will be "a sleeping with the fishes unable to show or communicate any enthusiasm indeed anything whatsoever to the English speaking players".We can also reveal that Emperor Capello instead, will be the BBC's next incarnation of Doctor Who. Capello's emissaries are understood to be in advanced discussions with the corporation, wi...
CNN's Censorship Of Ron Paul Soars To New Heights
2008-03-25 03:07:00
Now that there are only four presidential candidates left in the race - two Democrats, Senator's Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton; and two Republicans, Senator John McCain and Congressman Ron Paul - you would think that CNN would finally have to shrug their shoulders and actually post the truth. You'd think now that Paul is no longer one of 10, or one of 5 - now that he's the only other Republican candidate left, they'd have to finally acknowledge him. You'd think wrong. On CNN's Election Center homepage today, the snapshot above is what they actually have up. Instead of placing Ron Paul next to John McCain, CNN has placed John McCain's head higher than all the other candidates (Democratic and Republican) with the caption PRESUMPTIVE NOMINEE below him; and Mike Huckabee, who dropped out of the race this month, is in the place where Ron Paul belongs, with a stamp that lets you know Huckabee's OUT.
