Barca -0 , Chelsea - 1
2012-04-18 22:51:00 A brilliant counter attacking goal at the very end of the first half is standing strong between Barcelona and the Champions League final in Munich after Chelsea secured a 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge tonight. It was kind of a harsh and unlucky night with players wasting gilt edged chances, hitting the post on a couple of occasion and on all other occasion the Chelsea defense standing strong. For Chelsea this would feel like a revnge for the exit at Barca in 2009, but for Barca we still have a chance to go through provided we lift our games at Camp Nou next Tuesday. It was that kind of a day where you see Cesc Fabregas missing two chances, Sanchez another and hitting the bar once and on the very end of the night we struck the post from a Pedro shot. Guardiola srarted with Puyol and Mascherano in the centre of defense with Alves and Adriano playing the full back roles respectively. The rest of the line-up was as expected. Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets fromed the midfield. Sanchez, Mess...
Barca vs Chelsea Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg Preview
2012-04-17 13:00:00 It's been three years since Barca has last met Chelsea in the Champions League. On that rather controversial night, FC Barcelona secured their first Champions League final birth under Guardiola courtesy of a sensational strike from Andres Iniesta, the Ghost face in the very dying moments of the match. Since then we have made three semi-finals, winning lst season, losing out to Inter in the season before and getting ready to face Chelsea tomorrow this season. But inspite of all these success, it is fair to say that the ghost of Stamford Bridge has always cast a shadow on this wonderful team's achievements; atleast from the perspective of people who does not like Barca and their style of play. Mourinho definitely tops that list and he reiterated that with a rather spooky comments following his team's exit at the hand of the Blaugrana. So it is natural to see both set of fans building this Semi-Final tie as the ultimate oppurtunity to rectify the injustice done to them . chelsea fan...
FC Barcelona to face Chelsea as expected in Champions League Semi-Final
2012-04-05 07:24:00 When the draw was made last month in Lyon, everyone expected a Barca vs Chelsea match up in the semi-final. Now with both the teams winning their respective Quarter Final ties, that expectation has turned into reality. In normal circumstances players try to underplay past issues, results and other facts into the build up to one of the most important matches of the season. But it looks like the wounds of that dramatic night at Stamford Bridge which was turned on it's head by a Iniesta screamer is yet to be healed for many Chelsea players. I have always maintained that we were pretty lucky to have not conceded atleast two penalties that night. I have heard many of fellow cules arguing that Henry should have had a penalty in the first leg. There is some merit in the argument but as the saying goes "Two wrongs don't make a right", that argument can only be used for the sense of arguing. Chelsea were hard done by refereeing decisions that night and it is normal that their fans and play...

FC Barcelona to meet AC Milan in UEFA Champions League Quarter Finals
2012-03-16 13:07:00 FC Barcelona will meet AC MIlan in the 2011-12 Champions League Quarter Final. The first leg of the tie will be held on the 28th of March at San Siro and the return leg will be held at Camp Nou on 3rd of April. It is second time Barcelona is drawn to meet the defending Serie A Champions. We have already met in the group stages this year, with we winning one match and drawing the other. For me, this is one tie I wanted to avoid as there is too much coincidence between Inter scenario a season ago. The best part of the draw is that we will play the second leg at home. But remembering that night in San Siro against inter, it now becomes paramount to play our heart out at San Siro this time around. Among the other draws, Real Madrid is the one who got one of the easiest draws. Our arch-rivals will play APOEL with the first leg taking place in Cyprus. The other Quarter Finals are Benfica vs Chelsea and Marseille vs Bayern Munich. Not only the draws of Quarter Finals were made today at Nyon...
Champions League 2011-12 Last 16 Decided
2011-12-08 08:53:00 With the completion of the last of Group matches yesterday, we now clearly know the clubs which will go to the next stage of 2011-2012 Champions League Tournament. Bayern Munich, Napoli, Inter Milan, CSKA Moscow, Benfica, FC Basel, Real Madrid, Lyon, Chelsea bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal, Marseille, Apoel Nicosia, Zenit St Petersburg, Barcelona and AC Milan are the ones qualified for the knock out stage of 2011-12 Champions League. Last night was quite disastrous for the two clubs from the city of Manchester. Despite winning 2-0 against Bayern Munich at home, the cash rich Manchester City found themselves going out of Champiosn league as Napoli won at Villareal. But the shocking result of the night was Manchester United going out losing to FC Basel. Italy with three teams lead the country wide representation in knock out stage. Spain, England, Germany, France and Russia all have two clubs representing them, Portugal, Switzerland and Cyprus has one each. The last time Manchester United g...

Champions League Betting: Bayern v Man City
2011-09-25 10:15:00 Bukomir's Predictions27 September, 2011Allianz-ArenaBayern vs Man Cityko 19:45 BSTThe new kinds on the block are messing with the in form, four time European champion - it should be a 100 % entertainment on Tuesday night and I will add some more by placing a small bet on the game.Last gameBayern easily took all the points at home against another Champions League competitor - Bayer Leverkusen (3:0). City beat Everton 2:0 and are still unbeaten in England. My thoughtsTop placed Bayern is welcoming the new boys Man City in a clash that should answer some questions in this Group A. The home side is flying on the wings of 9 wins in a row in all competitions while also managed to keep clean sheets in all of them. Bayern beat Villarreal 2:0 in the opening fixture and another win on Tuesday night will leave them at the top of the group. The pressure is clearly on visitors side and that can reflect in open game with lots of chances in front of Joe Hart. Bayern will surely score a goal here ...

UEFA Champions League Betting - To Qualify Market
2011-08-03 09:36:00 Bukomir's Predictions3 August, 2010Stadion PasienkySlovan v Apoelko 19:45 GMTI had a wining shot at UEFA Champions League qualifications yesterday and it tastes good. Another betting pick loaded today with a huge possible return for your stake. Ready? Go.Last gameSlovan held Apoel in the first leg for a goalless draw, which gives the team a clear advantage at home. As both domestic championships are in a very early phase or even not started yet, I won't take the local results in consideration. My thoughtsI know 0:0 can be a tricky first leg result but in that case it means to me Slovan had the job almost done and now just need to perform at their usual best in front of the fans. Apoel have lost their chance at home and it will be a mountain to climb to produce any shocking result here - Slovan have the experience and the home ground on their side. I am a bit concerned about the odds that all of the bookies put on the game today - not a clear favorite on paper, but that only makes t...

UEFA Champions League Betting - Goals Market
2011-08-02 09:00:00 Bukomir's Predictions2 August, 2010Tallaght StadiumShamrock v Copenhagenko 19:45 GMTWith the new England Premier League season knocking on the door, I have decided to warm up a bit and have a shot on UEFA Champions League qualifications betting.Surprise in Dublin, anyone?Last gameThis is the return leg and Copenhagen have a slightly 1:0 advantage after the first 90 minutes.Shamrock last domestic game with Bray was postponed and the team had plenty of time to focus on this one in what can be a huge history breakthrough. Copenhagen took easily 2:0 their last match from the Superliga. My thoughtsI believe the game is coming too early for Copenhagen as they still are in the same beginning of the local championship and are in obvious lack of games and practice. The first leg proved that and Shamrock are coming home with their hopes alive, which guarantees an inspiring performance and battle for every inch of the pitch, at least. The home team is currently sitting 3rd in Ireland and demon...

Man United Top Group C After 1-1 Draw
2010-12-07 23:04:00 Manchester United will avoid teams such as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich after topping Group C with a 1-1 draw against Valencia. Sir Alex Ferguson fielded a fairly strong side with the main surprise being Ben Amos in goal with Tomasz Kuszczak on the bench. United got off to a good start, Anderson was dominating the game and Dimitar Berbatov should have bagged himself a hat-trick. Anderson could have had himself a couple but his shooting was very much off target. Valencia?s goal came in the 32nd minute after Michael Carrick lost possession, the move ended in Pablo Hernandez firing past Amos. United?s best chance of the first half came from a curling strike from Wayne Rooney, which hit the bar, Luis Nani dragged the rebound wide. After a frustrating first half, the second half didn?t start much better with Rio Ferdinand having to be replaced by Chris Smalling after picking up an injury only five minutes in. United thought they had equalised after Berbatov scored...

2010-11-24 23:47:00 Wayne Rooney stepped up and scored a late penalty for Man United, which guaranteed progression to the last 16 of the Champions League. Manchester United had most of the possession throughout the game but found it incredibly difficult to break down the Rangers defence. It was a very negative performance from the home side, who kept most men behind the ball for most of the game. United should have been awarded a stonewall penalty only minutes in after Dimitar Berbatov was brought down in the area by Steven Davis. Somehow both the referee and extra official missed it. Minutes later, Berbatov should have put United ahead but his header from Fabio da Silva?s cross didn?t have enough power on it to beat Allan McGregor in the Rangers goal. The home sides first chance came 15 minutes in from a free-kick but Kenny Millers header fell wide of Edwin Van Der Sar?s post. The closest either side came to scoring in the first half came just before half time, another great cross by Fabio was h...

Rangers v Manchester United Preview
2010-11-24 08:30:00 This evening Manchester United play Rangers at Ibrox in the Champions League Group Stage, United only need a point to qualify for the next stage. The game at Old Trafford between the two teams in September finished 0-0 but was overshadowed by a horrific injury to Antonio Valencia. Man United sit top of the Group C table on 10 points, Valencia have seven. Rangers are two points behind them on five and Bursaspor are yet to pick up any. To prevent United from qualifying, the Scottish side will have to do what no side have done yet in this year?s competition, score against United. Man United will be without first choice central defenders Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, who are both being rested, which should mean starts for Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling. Darren Fletcher will also be missing after picking up an injury. Darron Gibson and Gary Neville missed Tuesday?s training session. Ryan Giggs and Anderson could both return after recovering from recent injuries. Man United Squad...

Man United On The Brink Of Qualification
2010-11-03 07:37:00 Manchester United only need one more point to qualify for the next round of the UEFA Champions League, after beating Bursapor 3-0 last night. With two games remaining (away to Rangers and at home to Valencia) one point is needed to progress to the final 16. The main talking point of a fairly dull first half was the injury to Luis Nani. The winger picked up a slight groin injury, but it?s not to believed to be serious. It was Dimitar Berbatov who had the first few opportunities for United, unfortunately for the Bulgarian he was unable to get the ball past Bursaspor keeper Dimitar Ivankov. Paul Scholes had the ball past Ivankov not long before half time, the goal was ruled out after Scholes was penalised for handball. Darren Fletcher gave United the lead only minutes into the second half. After a brilliant pass from Michael Carrick, Fletcher?s strike went into the bottom left corner of the goal. After going 1-0 down Bursaspor went looking for an equaliser, both Ivan Ergic and...

Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Michael Owen and Antonio Valencia are all missing due to injury. Comfortable But Uneventful Win For United
2010-10-20 23:25:00 Luis Nani?s sixth minute goal was enough to pick up a vital three points in their Champions League match against Bursaspor. All the talk ahead of the game was about Man United?s wantaway striker Wayne Rooney. There was no Rooney but the crowd showed their support for the manager with a cheer as he walked out for the game. The fans also made their feelings clear to the striker with one banner saying- 'Colleen forgave you, Wayne, we won't?. There were five changes to the side that started against West Brom with Tomasz Kuszczak, Chris Smalling, Darren Fletcher, Ji-Sung Park and Federico Macheda all coming into the team. Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic, Rafael da Silva, Michael Carrick, Anderson and Nani all kept their places. Six minutes in Nani?s stunning strike from outside the penalty area was enough for a comfortable win. After taking an early lead it looked like Bursaspor could be on the end of a thrashing but there wasn?t much else worth talking about. The positives were a cl...

Subs Combine To Snatch Late Win
2010-09-30 00:27:00 Substitute Javier Hernandez scored the only goal of the game against Valencia in the 85th minute to snatch three points and take Man United top of the Group C Champions League table, level on points with Rangers. Sir Alex Ferguson was without the injured Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. Rio Ferdinand partnered Nemanja Vidic in the heart of defence for the first time this season. The starting XI was- Edwin Van Der Sar, Rafael da Silva, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, Anderson, Luis Nani, Ji-Sung Park and Dimitar Berbatov. United's first opportunity fell to Berbatov, whose effort from outside the penalty area fell just wide of the goal. Valencia started to pile on the pressure on United's defence, with three good chances, the best falling to Roberto Soldado, who had an open goal to aim for but headed over the bar. Rubin Kazan vs Barca Champions League Preview
2010-09-27 18:24:00 The name Rubin Kazan does not invoke happy memories for Barca fans. Last season, they were the one of the few teams who managed to gain an upperhand against us. Even against Inter we had a record of two wins, 1 defeat and a draw. Rubin Kazan visited Camp Nou shocking us all with a victory, and the return visit to Russia ended with a goalless draw. That draw did raised doubts about our qualification chances. In the end Barca came out of the group on top is a totally different matter. Lionel Messi who was in doubt for this clash has got the all clear from the medical team. He has been included in the squad but is definite to start the match only from the substitute bench. It would be better if he does not play in this match. Guardiola would be pretty much happy with the effort put by his team at Athletic Bilbao. This is the third extremely difficult away visit we are making within the last two weeks. First it was to Atletico Madrid, then it was to Bilbao and we all hope this vist also...

Frustrating Performance Overshadowed By Injury To Valencia
2010-09-15 00:02:00 A disappointing draw with Scottish Champions Rangers has been overshadowed by an awful injury picked up by Antonio Valencia. Sir Alex Ferguson has said that it looks like Valencia has suffered both a dislocation and a fracture. Sir Alex made 10 changes to the team who started against Everton at the weekend. Tomasz Kuszczak, Wes Brown, Rio Ferdinand, Chris Smalling, Fabio da Silva, Ji-Sung Park, Darron Gibson, Antonio Valencia, Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney were all brought in. Darren Fletcher was the only player to keep his place. The visiting were happy to continue with the tactics they used which got them to the 2008 Uefa Cup final- ?parking the bus? in front of the goal. With a huge Premier League game against Liverpool at the weekend, the team selection was a gamble but the players should have had enough to score against an average side. There were very little chances for either side throughout the game, the first of which fell in the 11th minute to Hernandez, whose hea...
