Man says his childhood attorney knew his mother abused him
2009-11-06 22:24:00
A 23 year old man is suing the attorney who represented him as a minor during his parents' divorce proceedings because, he says, she knew about the abuse his mother inflicted on him and did nothing about it. Carlos J. Carrillo says that Stacey Platt of the Loyola Child Law Center "was very aware of the severity and frequency of abuse" that Carrillo's mother inflicted on him and his siblings but there is no record of her attempting to protect the children. Carrillo points to a police report showing that his mother pulled a knife on him and threatened to stab him as well as three court orders requiring his mother to get anger management counseling, which she never did and which...
Childhood is special, do not loose it!
2009-09-16 10:20:00
Dear friend, In last days I am reading more and more. So it goes with my mind, it is more and more active and frankly, feels good ;-) Today I have read interesting article, which reminds me a lot reasons why I have created Remembering Childhood project. This series of images, if you remember, should help adults to bring back, once forgotten memories and feelings from time when we were very young. This particular article is rather difficult to read and at the same time very easy to understand. Looks like almost two people wrote it,plus all those references and citations from other people makes it at the end rather complex. In any case, if you patient enough, it will bring you joy and certainly trigger some thoughts. Here is few teasers from it: I have often felt like saying to adults: quit worrying about the afterlife. This already is the afterlife. You ghouls. You ghostwalking former children. Then I want to ask them: Why do you worry about whether your soul will exist 100 year...

Athina Onassis - The tragic childhood
2008-12-10 23:50:00
_uacct = "UA-2807163-1";urchinTracker();-After wresting control of her fortune from her father, Athina Onassis Roussel wants to claim her full legacy as Aristotle Onassis?s granddaughter and sole surviving heir?including, some say, the presidency of Greece?s most famous foundation. Behind her is her fiancé and fellow equestrian jumper, Olympic medalist Alvaro Alfonso de Miranda Neto. As ?the richest little girl in the world? comes of age.I met Athina Onassis Roussel, the last direct descendant of Aristotle Onassis, on a hot day in July 1999, when she was a tall, coltish, shy girl of 14. She was in Greece to attend the wedding of a second cousin at the seaside estate of her famous grandfather?s stepsister, Kalliroi Patronicolas. Wearing a long-sleeved white jacket over a summer dress, Athina stayed close to her father, Thierry Roussel, all afternoon, speaking French in a soft, hesitant voice, never making eye contact with the distant relatives he introduced her to, always standing sli...

newsRare, spontaneous mutations rife in schizophrenia casesMichele Solis 5 Jun 2008 2:15 PM Unlucky breaks: De novo mutations can account for schizophrenia in families with no prior history of the disease.Rare, spontaneous mutations could account for at least 10 percent of cases of schizophrenia, according a study published online last week1.These mutations are deletions or duplications of DNA segments, dubbed copy number variations (CNVs).Although submicroscopic in stature, CNVs have for the past two years been implicated in neurological disorders such as autism and schizophrenia in one high-profile publication after another.Since discovering a schizophrenia-related deletion in chromosome 22q11 more than a decade ago2, Maria Karayiorgou, professor of psychiatry at Columbia University Medical Center, suspected other CNVs could also play a role in schizophrenia, but detecting them was tricky.“It was not until very recently that we had the technology to actually look genome-wide fo...
Childhood obesity are we taking this problem seriously?
2008-06-06 14:05:00
Childhood obesity is either a major problem or is already under control according to which report you read according to a recent report in Scotland one in five boys and one in ten girls in Scotland are obese. But this is just the tip of the iceberg this same report also states that by 2020 the figure is anticipated to have increased to 50% or more which is likely to put a massive strain on health services in the future. Medical experts blame the sedentary and almost couch potato like existence of children today who get little exercise in the home environment and most only exercise at school.
Childhood Obesity
2008-06-03 03:26:00
Childhood obesity, a serious problem in the United States for the last 25 years, may have hit its peak. A report published in the May 28 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association indicates that the epidemic may have leveled off during the past eight years. Researchers say that the number of overweight children is still three times what it was back when I was a kid though (in the 1960s and 70s). This is interesting for a few reasons. It could mean that a certain percentage of the population of US children is simply immune to obesity. That’s one of my extremely non-scientific guesses, and was not suggested by any of the research. Researchers didn’t draw any conclusions from the data, but there will no doubt be much study. Is it possible that a segment of US citizens just eat right and exercise and teach their children to do the same? What are your thoughts?

My dear friend N.American Princess "who is actually a sweet and original Egyptian Princess" reminded of something I wanted to write about from two weeks ago , again the Lebanese issue made me forget it. Gamal Mubarak made an appearance in the National Egyptian TV on its first channel in the political pro- regime talk show "Honestly" {Of course nothing honest in this show from the beginning till the ending}. As usual he was wearing his lucky blue shirt "may be he wears for fear of envy !!???"  and was speaking with all enthusiasm about our wars with Israel;the TV show was during the celebrations of Sinai Liberation and its title was about Youth and Liberation ..so it was natural thing to find young Gamal Mubarak who crossed the 40 years old and did not serve his military service for some mysterious reasons speaking about the wars !! Childhood Hero Day June 13th

Image via WikipediaMegan at Imaginif is promoting Childhood Hero Day on June 13th.As the website explains:Every child needs a hero. Heroes don?t need superpowers. Heroes are adults who can help children to understand and feel safe in a rapidly changing world. In a time when children are feeling uncertain about their future, heroes give children confidence, share their worries and celebrate their successes. Heroes help children work out their relationships, understand what is happening to them as they grow and develop and share time with them.Heroes play a pivotal role in the lives of children. In the increasingly hectic pace of life and with the pressures of work, it can be easy to lose sight of the heroes children need us to be for them. Children need adults to care for them, be interested in their lives and keep them safe. Childhood heroes make a profound and lasting difference for children throughout their entire lives. The extreme rareness of both disorders made analysis difficult. No strong evidence exists implicating genetics in the development of childhood psychoses that begin before the age of 5. Family pedigree data fail to support psychogenic transmission because very few siblings of early onset cases are affected. Bi...

Barack Obama's Muslim Childhood
2008-04-29 14:53:00
A great article from Daniel Pipes at Frontpagemag:As Barack Obama's candidacy comes under increasing scrutiny, his account of his religious upbringing deserves careful attention for what it tells us about the candidate's integrity.Obama asserted in December, "I've always been a Christian," and he has adamantly denied ever having been a Muslim. "The only connection I've had to Islam is that my grandfather on my father's side came from that country [Kenya]. But I've never practiced Islam." In February, he claimed: "I have never been a Muslim. ? other than my name and the fact that I lived in a populous Muslim country for 4 years when I was a child [Indonesia, 1967-71] I have very little connection to the Islamic religion.""Always" and "never" leave little room for equivocation. But many biographical facts, culled mainly from the American press, suggest that, when growing up, the Democratic candidate for president both saw himself and was seen as a Muslim.Obama's Kenyan birth fa...
