Popular Mechanics - 2010 Ford Taurus SHO vs. 2009 Chrysler 300C
2009-06-28 23:43:00
If you are wondering what the ~4400-pound Taurus SHO competes against, Larry Webster (formerly of Car and Driver) of Popular Mechanics has the answer: the all wheel drive Chrysler 300C. And the SHO is actually bigger and heavier:   Chrysler 300C AWD Ford Taurus SHO Base price $39,925 $37,995 Powertrain 370 hp/398 lb-ft, 5.7-liter V8, 5A 365 hp/350 lb-ft, 3.5-liter V6, 6A Suspension (f/r) control arms/multilink strut/multilink Wheelbase (in.) 120.0 112.9 Length (in.) 196.8 202.9 Width (in.) 74.1 76.2 Axle ratio 3.07 2.77 Weight 4280 4368 Brakes (f/r) 12.6-in disc/12.6-in disc, ABS, ESC 12.8-in disc/13.0-in disc, ABS, ESC Tires (f/r) P225/60R-18 P245/45R-20 ACCELERATION (sec)     0-30 mph 2.0 2.2 0-60 mph 5.5 5.4 0-100 mph 13.9 13.3 40-70 mph 4.2 4.9 20-60 mph rolling start 4.4 4.2 Quarter-mile 13.9 @ 100.3 mph 13.7 @ 101.7 mph BRAKING (ft.)     30-0 mph 30.4 29.9 60-0 mph 126.2 117.6 EPA fuel economy (city/hwy) 16/23 17/25 PM Fuel Eco...

Week in review from Chrysler
2009-06-14 17:11:00
The week's news from the same old new Chrysler. Lots of hope at Chrysler... but reality is that all they have to sell for at least the next 18 months is the same old selfishly profitable gas guzzlers. The first North American Fiat is 18 months off - at a minimum. The first Fiat-derived sedans are even further out. And Chrysler desperately needs new sedans - the big 300C boat is wretchedly outdated and obese, the miserable Sebring and it's knockoff Avenger are the worst cars in their class. None of these sedans have any conceivable value for Driving Enthusiasts - indeed they aren't even intended for them. But mediocre cars make for mediocre drivers, and with the upcoming Cash For Clunkers program from the U.S. Government, a large part of this government handout, er, automotive manufacturer welfare, er, economic stimulation will be spent on these very same "new" clunkers as well as gigantic pickup trucks whose sole purpose for 99% of buyers is to r...

Detroit - Chrysler LLC’s planned asset sale to a group led by Italy’s Fiat S.p.A was delayed by Ginsburg while the U.S. Supreme Court considers a request for a longer adjournment that might shatter the deal. Chrysler Dealer closing list
2009-05-15 00:12:00
List here: http://carczarconsulting.com/wp--content/uploads/2009/05/chrysl-ercutlist.pdf  Sad - but we've seen several of these dealers ourselves and they don't appear to be major movers and shakers. The worst thing is that Chrysler has an incredibly enormous supply of cars out on the lots and in the pipeline - along with a bunch sitting half-assembled in the shutdown plants. Setting aside how Chrysler ever got this bad... how could it ever get fixed? Clearly the bankruptcy court is doing the right thing... despite the jackals at the union and certain creditors this company is going to be reborn in the right size - unless the dealers manage to sue and hold up the process for more than a few months. If Chrysler doesn't exit bankruptcy in a very short period of time, it cannot restart. More on MSNBC: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/307-43464/
How Ford benefits from the decline and fall of Chrysler
2009-05-06 14:47:00
Good article in MSNBC this morning: "Ford likely to benefit from Chrysler bankruptcy". We'd take it a step further and say that Ford has been benefitting from the decline of Chrysler throughout this crisis. The article is full of examples, but one highlighted example is mid-size and compact cars. We wholeheartedly agree: we’ve put hundreds of miles in all three cars and the Fusion is clearly a far better car than the Sebring and Avenger. Both Chrysler products have an unbelievably lousy interior with lots of gaps, hard plastics, and styling oddities. Combined with terrible ergonomics and poor driving dynamics. And not just by the standards of a "Driving Enthusiast". Instead, these are the kind of cars that will do nothing learn and exploit the benefits of proper seating position (the tired lump of a driver in an awkward seating position is more likely to be unable to react properly in a driving emergency) and the poor chassis dynamics will not help the driv...

The countdown starts for GM and Chrysler
2009-03-30 17:25:00
The US Government has determined that the plans submitted by GM and Chrysler were totally inadequate and must be re-done. Therefore, Chrysler has 30 days to partner or it will be allowed to collapse. GM has 60 days to meet the required goals (including more concessions from debt holders and other stakeholders) or it will face a "controlled bankruptcy". There will be additional aid for both companies, but only for this short period. Meanwhile, CEO Rick Wagoner was told by the administration to resign and he did so immediately. And GM will announce on Tuesday the future of the Hummer brand - we know it's dead, and will know Tuesday if another company will buy the brand from GM.

China Auto. Interview With Chrysler's Bill Russo

Fascinating two part interview with Bill Russo, Chrysler's "first Regional Vice President in Northeast Asia with over 20 years in the automotive industry"on the new and very promising Aimee Barnes blog. Post is entitled, "Link Up, Learn More: Interview with Bill Russo, Automotive Industry Expert" and part one is found here, with part two here. Big takeaway: Russo sees it being 5-10 years before Chinese cars start really showing up in the United States and EU. Definitely recommended to anyone (and isn't that just about everyone?) interested in China's automotive industry.

Chrysler Creates New Company Solely for Electric Vehicles
2009-02-13 19:47:00
Chrysler has been working quietly on an all electric vehicle for a while now and it seems as though they have every intention of following through with the concept. The reasoning behind this comes after the news that they have created a separate company to help market the new EV and hopefully give Chrysler some footing to get back on its feet.

Chrysler - Fiat. Wait, what?
2009-01-22 08:37:00
Fiat just bought itself a 35% stake in Chrysler without spending a penny.
