CRAIGSLIST THE MUSICAL
2012-01-18 18:38:00 CBC broadcaster Bill Richardson and singer/songwriter Veda Hille are the culprits behind the quirky new musical, Do You Want What I Have Got? A Craigslist Cantata. The show is a musical parody based largely on Craigslist want-ads and the theme of humanity in the age of social networking and exchange. It will make its big debut at this year's PuSh International Performing Arts Festival in Vancouver, Canada. Expect lots of laughs and weirdness like irregular cat hats, mounted lobsters, and a slew of other want-ad mentions.
BOUNCE THAT MAN JUNK
2012-01-10 16:26:00 Meet Jenna Marbles, an internet sensation that whips up weekly comedic videos about her random thoughts and happenings. Her latest feat, however, isn't some self-made web cam video, it's a full-on music video production dedicated to male genitalia. "Bounce That D*ck" is Ms. Marbles' comedic response to years of sexist pop music videos that only glorify scantily clad women. She's decided to turn the tables and it's hilarious!

Discovering the Canadian Comedy Series CALL ME FITZ
2011-11-03 15:31:00 For Canadian television viewers, they are well aware of the sensation CALL ME FITZ, which has been recognized as one of the most groundbreaking comedy series on television. For American viewers, CALL ME FITZ may be a still undiscovered gem. Returning for its second season, CALL ME FITZ is set to blow-minds again with its piercing, ribald adult-humor. It is a no-holds barred look at a morally-bankrupt car salesman who gets a second chance at life, or rather a chance to get to know his better-half while still exploring all the decadent desires life has to offer. In this case, Fitz’s better-half is himself. After a freak accident literally split him in two, creating a separate identity in the form of his conscience known affectionately as Larry (Ernie Grunwald), Fitz is literally haunted by himself. Larry may be a stalker, a corporeal ghost, an angel, or simply a physical manifestation – or better yet, maybe Fitz is lying in a comma somewhere dreaming this whole wild-ride adv...

2011-11-01 13:56:00  As any fan of BONES knows by now, the funny-bone that runs throughout the series is due to showrunners and executive producers Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan who not only passionately adore their show and the cast that star in it, they love poking fun at each other and everything else around them. It is that distinct comedic voice backdropping their warm familial writing style that has drawn fans from around the globe into the BONES world. In a recent conference call with press, Hart and Stephen candidly shared a few fun things to look forward to in the upcoming season. How will the Booth-and-Brennan relationship change this upcoming season now that it has been revealed that Booth is pregnant with Booth’s child? Can you talk about how the show is approaching that and how you made sure the balance of the show stayed intact? STEPHEN: Well, really I think to us, it was somewhat organic. We just continued to write Booth and Brennan in the same way, which were two completel...

Laughing Hearts Comedy Night at stage 773 chicago!
2011-03-07 19:19:00 After my improv performance at the iO a few weeks ago I've kind of been obsessed with chicago's world renowned & thriving improv and comedy scene! Today I'm keeping the laughter going with another amazing comedy event called "laughing hearts comedy night" tomorrow/wednesday, march 9 at 6:30p at stage 773 (1225 w belmont ave). Review "HEDDATRON": Creative Chaotic Comedy!
2011-03-01 19:40:00 Hedda Gabler: Ibsen's writing it. Jane's living it. Nugget's reporting it. Robots are performing it. Sideshow Theatre presents the Chicago premiere of HEDDATRON as part of the 2011 Steppenwolf Garage Repertory series. Using documentary style film footage, HEDDATRON chronicles the recent robot led abduction of a woman. Her husband has paired up with his small arms dealer brother to find her. Meanwhile, her daughter is giving a theatre history report on the making of Hedda Gabler. As Nugget muses the state of mind of the playwright, the Henrik Ibsen household struggles with relationship roles. It's a triple play of past, present and future. Flashbacks and forwards keep the intrigue riveting in separate segments. A midpoint fusion of humans and robots flash mobs a "Turn Around" musical moment. It's a showstopper that transports into a Sci-Fi realm. For a play based on a suicide drama, Sideshow Theatre has shot out a creative chaotic comedy!

Grass root lies and consensus comedy - Arlene Jones Commentary
2011-02-25 18:11:00 Grass root lies and consensus comedy Arlene Jones Congratulations to Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel. I don't have a problem congratulating him on his win, even though he wasn't my candidate of choice. The 2011 Chicago mayoral election should be required study for everyone. If you want to know why our young black people are so disenchanted with black leadership, all one has to do is review the lies, deceit, backstabbing and sell-outs that occurred within both the established black political community and the activist community. Most people who followed politics could read their tea leaves and know that losing the Olympics was the signal that it was time for Mayor Daley to go. The only one who initially planned to take...

POLITICALLY INCORRECT
2010-10-26 20:34:00 No matter how conservative, it seems like there's no escaping the, sometimes politically-incorrect, nature of the internet, user-based movies, and good old creative juices. Ask comedian, James Davis, and director, Martin Usher, as they are culprits behind one of the most authentic spoof's we've seen in a long time--a presidential parody of rapper Wocka Flocka Flame's "Hard In The Paint" video. We know it's wrong, but this is the kind of stuff that makes us, here at Republica, nostalgic for old-school In Living Color and The Dave Chapelle Show. Sniff, sniff...

'Mike & Molly' Review - A Laugh-Free Comedy
2010-09-21 04:36:00 The Good:...Oh, wait. Seriously? The two leads actually have some decent chemistry, so there's that. And literally that's it.The Bad: Absolutely everything and everyone else. Overacting run rampant on this show, especially in the cases of Molly's mother (played by Swoosie Kurtz) and Mike's partner on the Chicago Police Department (played by Reno Wilson, whom I think I remember from his recurring role on The Cosby Show back in the day). The jokes are obvious and stereotypical and cheap. Can it Improve?: I have a feeling this show will do well, just because of its time slot (on CBS after the pimple on the butt of television, also known as Two and a Half Men). If it does, in fact, stick around,... |
