Indian War Comics To Launch Free Digital Version For Aakash Users
2012-01-27 06:29:00 You have to realise that the Digital age has just dawned when you see things like this happen. We have already blogged about the PMO’s office being on Twitter. Now, Indian War Comics (IWC) are going digital too. The latest version of their comic features the stories of Param Vir Chakra winner Bana Singh, Captain Vikram Batra and 26/11 hero, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. This is a very interesting way to let Indians know the stories of these brave patriots. IWC will launch the Digital version of their comics soon and they will be available free of cost for Aakash and Ubislate tablet users. IWC had already launched e-book and iPad version of their comics online last year in March. They were priced at $1.99 at around that time. Speaking at the launch of the digital version of these comics Army Chief, V.K. Singh said, “This particular idea itself is not only laudable, but I think each one of us must realise that there is something which will make tremendous difference. Those of ...

DC COMICS TATTOO HOAX
2012-01-14 00:52:00 Yep, we've been suckered! Earlier we reported a post about DC Comics and their supposed litigation against fan tattoos. Turns out the story was a complete hoax from 2011. The original April Fool's story appeared on ComicMix. We're sure we weren't the only guys that got had. We can imagine all the take-downs during that week. We apologize anyway and we won't be returning any calls to Hawkman, Superman or responding to any Justice League threats...
DC COMICS VS TATTOOS
2012-01-13 18:00:00 In a pursuit that's almost too incredible to believe, lawyers representing the comic book pioneers over at DC Comics are actually handing out cease and desist notices to fans with tattooed art that they deem copyrighted material. The suits, apparently on call from Warner Bros. (DC's parent company), began handing out official notices while on the floor of the C2E2 convention in Chicago last month. And here's what they had to say about it:

New Comics ? The Week of July 3rd ? 9th!
2011-07-13 18:11:00 Brimstone #2 – A little western style horror is always welcome as far as I’m concerned. For “Brimstone”, the story over-rides the art, which is cool since I’m here for the story. The story seems somewhat standard so far, but creepy and intriguing, so that’s a plus. Danger Girl and Armys of Darkness #1 – ...

DC Comics Turns Superman Against the USA
2011-04-30 15:00:00 -By Warner Todd Huston Superman has just flipped the United States of America a super powered middle finger. In an upcoming issue of Action Comics, DC Comics is to have Superman appear before the United Nations to renounce his American citizenship. "Truth, justice, and the American way is not enough anymore," Superman tells us. Screw you, America. In a convoluted storyline, Superman is to decide that being a representative of the United States of America is just too gauche for an upstanding citizen of the world like Supes. It's too restricting, apparently, to represent the freest nation on earth, the nation that gave birth to the modern world. So, America, Superman just isn't that into you any more....
Review "The Front Page": Comics Meet Editorial Tabloid Entertainm
2011-04-19 00:15:00 Gambling, drinking, fondling, lying, killing: it's just another day at the office. Press and politics fraternize in the Windy City. TimeLine Theatre presents the Chicago classic THE FRONT PAGE. It's the1920s. Newspapermen hang out in the press room of the Chicago Criminal Courts Building. Outside, the gallows are being tested for the next morning's hanging. Inside, the reporters wait out THE story. It's a full-on man-cave-frat-house with poker, flasks and dirty boxers. Area happenings are phoned in and deemed newsworthy based on the corpse's attractiveness. The sheriff and mayor trade execution press passes for election favors. One of the fellas, Hildy Johnson is leaving the news racket to get married. As Hildy says his goodbyes, the condemned man escapes. The man hunt sends the reporters on the run. When an exclusive climbs in the window, Hildy has to choose between his girl and his passion. THE FRONT PAGE is a hot off the presses commemorative edition.
Celebrate Valentine's Day with Archie Comics!
2011-02-11 17:40:00 The last time I spoke with the folks from Archie Comics, I had interviewed Michael Uslan about his controversial series "Archie Marries Veronica." The article generated its fair share of discussion about one of the most storied love triangles in pop culture, and proved that the passion people have for the kids at Riverdale is as enduring as ever. Now, to celebrate that passion, Geek To Me is teaming up with Archie Comics & AllPosters.com to give one of my readers a shot at a very special gift for the upcoming Valentine's Day -- or as I like to call it, Day of the Deep, Deep Loneliness. If there's anything that captures the essence of a comic book, it's the cover. What Women Want From Comics
2011-01-02 15:24:00 You may have noticed that Marvel, DC and their various imprints have been expressing confusion for some years as to "what women want" from comics. Call it ingenuous or clueless, I know I am not alone in being confused as to why it is just so freaking *hard* for the men in charge of these companies to figure out what women want. So, I thought I would help them. I set up a (completely non-scientific) poll and asked woman who read comics to answer the questions. I had no particular agenda, but there will be inevitable bias, as I am human, with thoughts and experiences of my own. I received 424 completed responses. Here are the questions I asked and the responses I received: 1. When you were young, did you read comic books you bought for yourself? (As opposed to reading your brothers' comics or getting them from a parent or relative.) 1. Yes 286 67.77% 2. No 136 32.23% 2. What kind of comic books did you buy most (Choose One)? 1. Superhero 249 59.86% 2. Romance 7...

Ray Villafane Of D.C. and Marvel Comics On Pumpkin Carving
2010-10-28 17:50:00 Ray Villafane has an interesting practice. All pumpkin carvings have the ability to become freakishly delightful and moderately scary. The occasional loose toothed smile, a crooked grin, or even hideous face seems to be ordinary. What if there was an even more evil nature about a pumpkin? Potential that spooks are even scared of. Ray Villafane, who works for D.C. and Marvel comics and owns Villafane Studios, likes to carve his pumpkins extra wicked. You might even say he is quite a "freaky" guy. Predator Head Pumpkin Villafane is a two time winner of the Food Network's Outrageous Pumpkins Challenge Show. You might have even saw him on CBS Evening News with Katie Couric this past Monday at 6:30. Not only are his pumpkin carvings insanely freaky. Villafane actually went through many trials and errors trying to perfect his art. After being an artist for D.C. and Marvel comics, his skills improved quickly. Before then Villafane mentions that he "smashed" quite a few pump...

Airtel Follows Tata Docomo – Launches Mobile Comics Service
2009-10-20 06:08:00 We reported on how Tata Docomo is bringing Manga comics to Indian mobiles. Now it seems Airtel plans to follow suit with the launch of its comics service on via Airtel live. Airtel has announced the launch of an entire comics portal on Airtel Live. This service would be GPRS enabled and will provide access to more than 300 Indian and international comic characters — from Popeye to the local Nagaraj. The pricing is also very competitive as customers will be charged Rs.10 per week for 10 comic strips (when compared to Tata docomo’s 20 rupees for one comic), which is inclusive of data charges. This move comes right after Airtel’s alliance with twitter to provide Tweetsms. Seems like Saleem Mobhani’s exit from Hungama.com and his consequent entry into Airtel as the Head of Entertainment has got good backing for entertainment VAS within Airtel. ‘More than a third of Airtel customers in India have GPRS-enabled handsets and with the mobile becoming the on...
