I bet I can name more cowboys than I can presidents.
2009-03-02 18:50:00
A while back, I wrote a story about some cowboys wandering around in the desert, getting more and more lost and more and more confused and upset. I submitted it to a bunch of places before one finally published it; most of the rest responded with something like "cowboys?" followed by a snorting sound and a rolling of the eyes. And it's hard to get a snorting sound and eye-roll into a letter or email. (Trust me; I know.) That's a shame, because it was a good story -- and also because cowboys and westerns and western wear are a part of America; the "Wild West" and cowboys and cattle rustlers and Buffalo Bill and the OK Corral and sarsaparilla and more, all part of our national consciousness that's slowly fading away from popular view. Why, it's been nearly three decades since "Urban Cowboy" and "Young Guns" came out, and nowadays, when you see people driving a herd of cattle, it's likely that the "people" are "Australians." That's why I'm glad that a place like Cavender's ...
DALLAS COWBOYS TERRELL OWENS, JASON WITTEN, TONY ROMO PREPARE TO PLAY NREW
2008-12-13 05:45:00
DALLAS COWBOYS TERRELL OWENS, JASON WITTEN, TONY ROMO PREPARE TO PLAY NREW YORK GIANTS - New York Post: ?It looks like the Giantsare catching the Cowboys at just the right time, with America's Team about to implode. One day after Terrell Owens spoiled the holiday mood by saying quarterback Tony Romo was playing favorites with tight end Jason Witten, another starting player told ESPN's Ed Werder, "We are not together as a team, and that includes the coaches."Owens claims Romo and Witten, who are friends and road roommates, conspire to draw up passing plays that exclude the wide receiver. The perception was denied throughout the organization, but it was revealed other wide receivers had spoken to offensive coordinator Jason Garrett about their roles in the offense.?

Giants Handle Cowboys-almost have clear shot at division title
2008-11-06 05:27:00
Giants Handle Cowboys-almost have clear shot at division titleBy Dr. Bill Chachkes-Managing Partner Football Reporters Online The New York Giants could have had the collapse of the decade. They could have fell apart. They could have played down to their competition as they did against the Browns, Bengals, and countless other teams over the years. Instead they came out and played ?their game? against Dallas yesterday in the meadowlands. They established the run early, and although they had a few turnovers, and a few penalties more then normal, but in the end they finished the game up on the Cowboys by 21 points. They also moved to a 7-1 record, a half game ahead of all other challengers thus far in the NFC. The Giants formula for success thus far has been a continuation of what they did late last season. Play solid defense, and establish the running game to open up the passing lanes. It doesn?t hurt that the kicking game has been so good over the last few years, with Jeff Feagles...
Cowboys Overcome Shaky QB, Beat Bucs 13 - 9

Brad Johnson's aim was off and the boo's were roaring at Texas Stadium. Somehow, the Dallas Cowboys pulled out of their midseason slump anyway. Johnson made up for several missed chances at touchdowns by throwing one to newcomer Roy Williams at the end of a drive sustained by four defensive penalties, and the much-maligned Dallas defense held up.read more | digg story

HBO's Hard Knocks to Feature the Dallas Cowboys
2008-05-17 03:40:00
I Guess HBO is trying to keep the show fresh and innovative. That's nice, but could you pick a better team to showcase then the Cowgirls-i-mean-boys? How about some team who is on their way back up, Like the Redskins, or the Vikings, or even the Saints. Any team but the Cowboys and their attention seeking receiver Terrell Owens, who reminds us not to Pick on Tony Romo because he's is "His QB." Let me know when Tony gets a National Commercial spot. Even Brady Quinn of the Browns(and he's still a Back-up!) has an EAS-Myoplex commercial!! Is Wade Phillips even "Telegenic" enough to do a month of Training camp TV spots? Will we see another Terrell Owens "Meltdown"?
My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
2008-05-13 17:00:00
I grew up a-dreamin' of bein' a cowboy, and Lovin' the cowboy ways. Pursuin' the life of my high-ridin' heroes, I burned up my childhood days. -Willie Nelson That makes two of us Willie; I dreamed of riding across the old west's planes and prairies, past the mesas and buttes of Monument Valley and along the rim of the Grand Canyon and on to the mystical Sonora Desert. It took me a few years to realize those dreams but I managed to fulfill them from the saddle, like my heroes had done, but with a twist as it where. The Saddle I was sitting was firmly affixed to one of my Motorcycles; this fact in no way diminishes the joy and exhilaration of seeing the longed for landscapes of my childhood big as life before my eyes for me to drink in the beauty and the years of wondrous anticipation realized in the flesh. The sites and landmarks of the old west form the images that formed the foundation of this life-long wander lust I so greatly enjoy and feed at...

Dallas Cowboys’ safety Roy Williams can still lay some hat, but his already questionable coverage skills have declined as he’s gotten older and slower. Hard Knocks With The Cowboys? Say It Ain’t So!
2008-05-07 01:36:00
I might be the only one with this sentiment, but I am not looking forward to the impending announcement that HBO will be filming a new Hard Knocks series this year and that the Cowboys will be in the limelight. It’s one thing when it is a 5-11 team being filmed, but I would rather limit the distractions as much as possible for a team that has Super Bowl potential.  I know, I know, the only way you can get to the Super Bowl is to be able to play despite the many distractions that certainly will come up during a run to the big game, but that doesn’t mean we have to invite the distractions to us does it? I’ll admit, I’ll definitely sign up for HBO if they do film Hard Knocks with the ‘Boys.  I’ll even enjoy it — heck, what fan wouldn’t enjoy being able to see more than just a few sparing highlights shown at the end of the 10 o’clock news?   But, given the choice, I’d definitely pass just to have less distractions. Heck, it ...

A Very “C+” Draft For Cowboys On First Day
2008-04-27 05:29:00
The first day of the draft is over, and it looks like the Cowboys really did have blinders on and were staring down Felix Jones all the way.   After Rashard Mendenhall slipped all the way down to the Cowboys, Dallas went ahead and pulled the trigger on Jones despite the fact that Mendenhall actually posted a faster 40 time at the combine than Felix Jones. Largely thought of as the most complete back of the draft with both power and speed, Mendenhall’s main knock was that he only started one year.   So, it makes sense that Dallas picks a back that didn’t start at all. The Felix Jones pick was disappointing, but was evident that Dallas had him circled as the guy they wanted in the backfield with Marion Barber.   Knowing that, if they didn’t take him at 22, the Titans would grab him, they went ahead an pulled the trigger.   And, while a lot of us fans aren’t going to like it, hopefully it will work out in the long run. One thing that Felix Jones has going ...
Dolphins acquire LB Ayodele, TE Fasano from Cowboys
2008-04-26 08:28:00
I'm a little late to the party with this one.  While I was out tonight, I received a surprising text message that read "Dolphins acquire Akin Ayodele and Anthony Fasano."  And to my delight, the text wasn't a joke. Various sources, including ESPN , the Palm Beach Post , and NFL.com are reporting that the Dolphins have indeed acquired LB Akin Ayodele and TE Anthony Fasano from the Cowboys in exchange for Miami's 4th round pick. Ayodele, who will be 29 in September, spent his first 4 seasons in Jacksonville.  He won the starting job midway through his rookie season and really excelled from there on out while in Jacksonville, averaging 87 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in his 4 years there.  He then went on to Dallas, where he didn't make as much of an impact as I thought he would.  But at 6'2, 250, Ayodele has the speed that Bill Parcells is known to covet from his middle linebackers.  He's a player I've always liked, dating back to ...

Big Brother 10 - Casting a Gay Cowboys
2008-04-19 23:20:00
“Hey Kenny, so you know I work in a gay bar right. Well a co-worker of mine might be on the next installment of BB. I guess BB wanted a gay cowboy, so they contacted the Gay Rodeo Association. So the Rodeo Association gave them a list of 4 people, and this guy JOHN DOE I work with was one of them. I guess its between him and another guy. I’m not really that close with the guy, he’s kind of a tool… but he’d do well on the show. I work in a typical gay video bar, and this guy wears wranglers and cowboy hats to work all the time. Its kind of funny. He gets along with most people, and used to be married so he also flirts with girls. He’d probably do well on the show. He just bugs me. I’ll keep you posted if he gets on…”
