2012-04-03 14:16:00
Cricket is one of the things people across the world are quick to associate India with. Being reigning World Cup Champions, with the WC Final having taken place exactly a year ago and the IPL starting in a day, cricket mania continues to grip the country. Yesterday, the STAR Group announced that they have bagged Media Rights for all Home and Domestic Competitions in India (Excluding the IPL). They have bought the rights for a period of six years at the astronomical sum of Rs. 3,851 Crore.   Said BCCI president N Srinivasan, “This is for 96 games during the six-year period and it starts with the India-New Zealand series. It includes both the television and mobile-internet rights”. That works out too approx. $800 Million and comes to Rs. 40 Crores Per Match. The fact that the broadcasting rights are so expensive shows that no matter whether the Indian Team is in form or not, the BCCI knows that interest in Cricket is evergreen. India?s Billionaire Cricket Star Tendulkar Scores Poorly In Sai Baba?s Game
2011-07-04 02:53:00
It is rare that Sai Baba makes news outside India. Sunday's Daily Telgraph (UK) has just published a useful run-down on the recent revelations of vast clandestine treasures being found in Sathya Sai Baba's private chambers. (See Further Reading, below). In some main points in yesterday's article, Gethin Chamberlain (see an earlier reference in ?Marie Claire? Magazine: April 2011. Sathya Sai Baba Still Further Exposed) states: "... the guru?s closest aides have turned on each other, there are claims of death threats being made, and the police have been called in.
Sai Baba Treasure Scandals: His Big Political Protectors Now Run For Cover
2011-06-22 02:33:00
For some weeks, it has been evident to any careful observer, that the Andhra Pradesh government has been only too aware of troubles in the Sathya Sai camp that might grow too big to suppress. Indeed, it is a campfire that none can stamp out, and looks like becoming a raging forest fire. The critters are on-the-run. Most notably, there were a series of suspicious circumstances leading up to Sathya Sai Baba's death. These are being investigated, including by a human rights commission. Hopefully, all the attention given to the treasury scandals will not allow this aspect to drop from sight, as happened with the suppression of police evidence concerning the police killings in Sai Baba's bedroom in June 1993. What is more, prominent followers of Sathya Sai Baba are themselves deeply disturbed at the intense infighting within the Sai Central Trust, despite its repeated - and dishonest - denials. These devotees, too, are asking leading and uncomfortable questions, and consulting legal o...

M for Mirupur : India beat Bangla Desh M for Motera : India beat Australia M for Mohali : India beat Pakistan M for Mumbai : India beat Sri Lanka ?? India won against Pakistan . An enjoyable match yet in many respects intriguing. Pakistan had all the chances but it seem they were determined to let hosts take the cake. When I look at this match, I find some moments that could have changed the outcome : When Dhoni Came to bat, Afridi still persisted with defensive field. It appeared Afridi was happy was convinced that India cant be bowled out in 50 overs. He didnt keep spinners and Dhoni's edge went past keeper not just once but twice. Dhoni was opposite that of Afridi, everytime new Pakistan batsman came to crease, he would employ first and leg slip and even have an audacity to pull thir man inside to tempt batsman to go for cut.Misbah wanted to emulate Javed Miandad or Inzaman but somewhere he lost a plot by losing partners. When Afridi came and hit few fours gap had come to 20 run...

Riveting match or a fierce battle? India v/s Pakistan at world cup
2011-03-30 04:12:00
For Indian television and print media, the world seemed to have ceased. Every TV channel is competing with another in screaming vociferously about India Pakistan Semi Final at Mohali. No Japan, Bahrain, Libya. Everything is match centric. Life will be standstill from 230pm. Where do I watch a match? In Pub or at home. I would rather do both. If India goes great guns, pub atmosphere is exhilarating. If the match is absorbing, home TV is the best. India?s collective and individual happiness revolves around the outcome of Cricket Match. So far, India has not tasted defeat in the world cup from Pakistan. Would this trend continue? Greg Chapel ? ex coach of India, was impatient in making changes in the team and the batting order while Gary Kirsten ? is making change only if they have reasonable degree of success. Which way Dhoni would go? This is the only chance and any of his decision that back fires would be scrutinised, dissected and pilloried for rest of his life. During 1996, India ...

2011-03-27 08:15:00
India is the land of the possible; a land where anything is feasible, and frequently actually happens. It is not a country that you can ignore, it is not a land from which you can stay aloof. It is vibrant, tumultuous, colourful, aromatic, tangy, terrifyingly friendly and unbelievably involved; it is chaotic and noisy, but most of all it is tangibly, viscerally real. And nowhere is India most visible in all its splendour and mind-bending complexity as at a game of cricket. For cricket is truly the subcontinent's sport. It may have been invented on the green lawns of a different and more straitlaced land, but it is in the Indian subcontinent that cricket finds its soul. travelogue,descriptions,experie-nces,observations from curious and imbecile mind of goggly

With the world cup mania at its peak, companies are launching online cricket games and apps to ride the wave. Online gaming company Zapak which has the rights to distribute the game called Cricket Power, saw traffic go double after the game went live just a month back. Cricket Power was launched by ICC itself. It is an internet browser-based simulation creatred by Karkadann Games and features teams and players participating in the world cup. So, even ICC wants to cash in on the euphoria surrounding the world cup. But, it is not the games which were surprising, but the companies who have come forth with such games surprised me more. has launched a game as well — Cricket Manager. YouTube Counting On Bollywood And Cricket To Explore Indian Market
2011-02-28 07:02:00
YouTube, Google’s video sharing site was launched in India in 2008. After launching its popularity quickly increased and soon it became one of the top ten sites that Indian users browse. YouTube still sees India as a lucrative market and on its way to explore further dimensions of this market. To make this happen, they are tying up with major studios in India and capitalising on cricket and bollywood, two of the most popular trends in the country. Google’s content partnership director for Asia Pacific, Gautam Anand said, “For most Bollywood producers, distribution in non-traditional markets is a problem and then the only choice left for people in those markets is piracy.” It’s wise not to let such a lacuna arise. YouTube could play a major role here as with around 17.3 million unique Indian visitors, it’s nothing less than a market. Since distribution is indeed a concern for most bollywood producers, they can release the footage of their movies on YouTube, applying some...

Last week, when we wrote about the various offers/promotions from telcos for the Cricket World Cup, we noted there was nothing substantial from Airtel’s side. Just yesterday, they announced a set of Cricket related services for their subscribers that included SMS, MMS, Video Alerts, Talk2Me with cricketers and experts, games  and applications. They also announced an ‘Airtel Cricket Contest’ in which participants could test their cricket knowledge and also stood to win prizes. Another promotion links the Shahrukh Khan hosted Zor ka Jhatka to cricket. Airtel customers can call on 53030 and wish the Cricket Team. 11 of these messages will be etched on Cricket Bats and given to the team. To opt for these Cricket related services you’ll have to dial 543210 and the company expects to add more cricket themed services during the course of the world cup. You can find out about the Text and MMS updates here – which include options for either WAP updates or comm...
