Future Second Baseman: Darwin Barney or DJ LeMahieu?
2011-06-02 19:33:00
DJ LeMahieuWhen top 10 prospect DJ LeMahieu got the call a couple of days ago, it got me thinking as to who will be the Cubs second baseman of the future.  If you would have asked this question 2 seasons ago, the answer would have been a no-brainer.  LeMaheiu was a first round draft pick and Barney projected as a utility infielder who had mostly played SS up until then.  At that time I was thinking Barney would make a nice backup to Starlin Castro for the next several years. Now it's not so easy.Despite LeMahieu's gaudy batting average in AA, it isn't clear cut that he'll be a better player for the Cubs in the future.  Barney has made himself...

Darwin Barney Set To Start At Second As Cubs Open 2011 Season Vs. Bucs
2011-04-01 09:09:00
The 2011 campaign hasn't even kicked off yet, and already fans are being hit with something of a surprise. After spending some time with the Cubs last season, and being considered a longshot to make the team as a backup infielder this spring, Darwin Barney will open the season as the Cubs' starting second baseman. He will be placed in the eighth spot in the batting order.Barney wasn't in the running for one of the Cubs' few open position spots this spring, but came on late in the spring to earn the starting gig for Opening Day. Due to the struggles of Blake DeWitt, and an underwhelming Jeff Baker, Barney's glove and .340 average in the spring made him very appealing...

Darwin, God and the Meaning of Life on Prager
2010-12-22 09:44:00
http://www.nelsonguirado.com/me-dia/2010-12-21 Prager H3_ Ultimate Issues Hour_ A Darwinian Universe.mp3Darwin, God and the Meaning of Life: How Evolutionary Theory Undermines Everything You Thought You Knew by Steve Stewart-Williams Both participants do a good job of coming to logical conclusions based on their starting premise: If there's no God, our lives are only meaningful to the extent that we care about them (why we care about them in the way rats don't is another issue). There's no "morality" outside of our opinion. At one point, the professor said that the only reason a human life is more valuable than an animal's is because humans have a greater capacity to suffer, an obvious rationalization. If the person dies quickly, it's OK then? No, according to professor Stewart: His family would suffer the loss. This, according to Stewart, is also the reason why one should save a drowning man rather than a drowning dog. I would have taken the hypothetical one step further by ...

Science and Religion: The Darwin Debate
2008-06-03 10:12:00
What the opponents of Charles Darwin?s theory of evolution by natural selection objected to was primarily the unpredictable and haphazard nature of his proposed system. They could not accept that the reason for the evolution of species was simple environmental changes. If history was predetermined, the anti-Darwinians believed, it could only unfold predictably and purposefully.[1] ...
