India Registers 1 Million .com and .net Domain Names
2010-06-10 09:34:00 A recent industry briefing released by VeriSign Inc, a provider of Internet infrastructure services, has shed light on the steadily growing dot com industry in India. According to its Domain Name Industry Brief (DNIB), India has registered a total of 1.037 million .com and .net domain names. Notable statistics revealed in the report are that globally new .com and .net registrations were added at an average of 2.7 million per month in the first quarter of 2010 for a total of 8.1 million new registrations in the quarter. This is an increase of 11 million domain name registrations as compared to the first quarter of 2009 or a 0.6% of relative growth. The overall base of .com and .net domain names grew to 99.3 million domain names in the first quarter of 2010. The DIT will submit its proposal by next month to ICANN including IP address space assignments.
