Hunter said in a statement. ?Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China?s emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America?s industrial base. “Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee?s candidacy that compels my endorsement,” he added. “Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I am one of many who shake my head in disbelief. For the life of me, I can’t understand how Congressman Hunter can support this guy. UPDATE: Duncan explains why on the Roger Hedgecock show:...

Republican Race Gets More Confusing
2008-01-20 10:16:00 After Saturday?s Nevada Republican caucus and South Carolina?s Republican primary are we any closer to a front runner? Mitt Romney came away with a dominating win in Nevada and McCain barely pulled off a victory in South Carolina. Mike Huckabee was in need of a win in South Carolina, a state with a high evangelical voting block. McCain scored a huge victory by beating Huckabee with 33 percent of the vote to Huckabee?s 30 percent. Fred Thompson finished third with 16 percent of the vote and Mitt Romney had 15 percent. There was speculation that Fred Thompson might drop out of the race if he did not finish strong in South Carolina. Thompson gave a 10 minute speech on Saturday in which all signs pointed to the end of his campaign. The only thing he ended was his speech, which he finished by saying, ?God bless you!? before walking off stage. To make matters more confusing, Mitt Romney did extremely well in Nevada where he got 51 percent of the vote and Ron Paul finished in secon...

McCain Delivers in New Hampshire
2008-01-09 04:57:00 John McCain has came back in a campaign where he had no money left and very little support, to win New Hampshire. On Tuesday night John McCain defeated Mitt Romney who came in second in the New Hampshire primary. McCain won New Hampshire in 2000 over George W. Bush and that may have helped him win on Tuesday. McCain does well among Independents and more than 45 percent of voters in New Hampshire are registered ?undeclared?. Independents were key to McCain?s victory on Tuesday and the Republican race will continue to go on. Ron Paul had 8 percent of the vote almost matching Rudy Giuliani?s 9 percent. Mike Huckabee finished with 12 percent. Mitt Romney finished second with 32 percent. McCain won by 5 percent as of 10:45 PM (EST) with 37 percent. In a hilariously embarrassing defeat, Fred Thompson lost to the total number of write-in candidates. McCain 37% Romney 32% Huckabee 11% Giuliani 9% Paul 8% Total Write-ins 2% Thompson 1% Hunter 1%

Wyoming Caucus Next
2008-01-05 07:38:00 On the agenda today? Wyoming. I bet you half the readers did not know Wyoming will hold their caucus today. Twelve delegates are at stake and only four candidates, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, Ron Paul and Duncan Hunter, have visited since last Fall. It holds the important distinction of being the first state to choose delegates to any of the two major National Convention. It makes you wonder what all the hype about Iowa was doesn't it. Despite that, it is likely the caucus will receive little press coverage and have little weight in the overall outcome of the race. Nevertheless, the winner will have some bragging rights. The caucus will begin in the morning and the results will be posted here with updated delegate counts.

US Presidential Candidates On Education: Duncan Hunter
2007-12-31 23:49:00 Duncan Hunter?!! Your guess is as good as mine. I hadn't heard of him either. Wouldn't you know it that he has a very Libertarian streak when it comes to education--with the exception of school vouchers. Here's where Hunter stands on the other educational issues...Duncan Hunter on educationOn No Child Left Behind lawAlthough Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., voted in 2001 for the education law known as No Child Left Behind, he is no fan of federal intervention in education. Signed by President Bush in 2002, the law requires every state to test students annually. Schools failing to make academic progress over several years could be closed or have their faculty replaced.Hunter says he would move to dismantle the top-down “expensive and inefficient” mandates of the law and has co-sponsored legislation to change it. That bill would give s...

So Long, Tom Tancredo?
2007-12-20 18:27:00 Tom Tancredo is scheduled to make a "major announcement" in Des Moines, Iowa, this afternoon. His campaign has been quiet on the details, leading many to speculate that Tancredo will announce that he is dropping his presidential bid. Though Tancredo's pet issue, illegal immigration, has risen to the fore in both national and Iowa politics, the Colorado Republican has failed to emerge from the low single digits in most polling. The decision by Iowa Republican Congressman Steve King, a Tancredo ally and another strong anti-immigration voice, to endorse Fred Thompson last week may have been the final straw.Should Tancredo drop out as expected, one would also assume that he would quickly endorse another candidate. Dropping out now, with the Iowa Caucuses just two weeks away and after nearly a year of campaigning, would make little sense otherwise. Timed just before voters tune out for the holidays, Tancredo's endorsement would be highly coveted. While he may not have mass number...

Republican CNN/YouTube Debate Videos (November 28, 2007)
2007-11-30 07:06:00 On Wednesday night Anderson Cooper hosted the first ever Republican YouTube debate on CNN. The questions were submitted by regular Americans (likely Republicans) and played for the candidates at the debate. Mike Huckabee showed his character the most on Wednesday by defending his state?s practice of educating children of illegal immigrants. Huckabee told Romney that he was going to finish what he was going to say and said that we should not punish children for their parents mistakes. Huckabee showed his commitment to education and did not back down to Mitt Romney. Chuck Norris was also in the audience and in post debate talk to show his support for Governor Huckabee. Tape-Delayed Live Blog
2007-11-29 15:51:00 EDITOR'S NOTE: We had some technical difficulties last night, so this post has become a delayed live blog, which has provided the time to add the full video of the questions and answers. What follows are my live thoughts while watching tonight's CNN/YouTube Republican debate. All times are central standard.7:00 Here we go. Anderson Cooper tells us the debate receive 5000 submitted questions, which is 2000 more than for the Democratic debate. A big roar comes from the crowd.7:01 Anderson says CNN will again bring out the candidates for pictures before the debate begins (they did this in the recent Dem debate as well). Why do this? CNN complains about not having the time to discuss every issue and not getting deep enough. Showing the candidate introductions and pictures is a huge waste of time that could easily be done before the airing.7:02 Florida Republican Governor Charlie Crist introduces the candidate. He's seen as a rising star in the party--his approvals are very impr...
