Target Deals: Cheap Cage-Free Eggs, Diapers, Sheets
2009-11-12 06:33:00 Yep, I went to Target alone, and I liked it. How could I not -- I found some deals that were not advertised in the weekly flyer and I scored diapers for as close to 10 cents apiece as I will probably ever get. The deals: 1. Spareboe Farms cage-free eggs @ $1.68. I have NEVER bought cage-free eggs for under $2.49. Usually if eggs go on sale it's by a dime or two, but these were $1 off. I bought 3 dozen!
Green Market Beans with Free Range Duck Eggs

The immediacy and the transparency of social media will catch you every time.

Weekly Soup for Souper Sunday: Provençal Tomato Soup with Poached Eggs
2009-05-11 12:04:00 A long weekend in Schwerin and a buisiness trip of several days' duration afterwards didn't stop me to serve our weekly soup. My son asked for a tomato soup and I decided that the Provençal Tomato Soup with Poached Eggs from the Slow Cooker was the right thing to fulfill his desire. I doubled the following recipe to serve 4 persons. My young gentlemen and their guest liked the soup, but they thought it was too "orangy". I loved the addition of orange zest. Of course I could have cooked the soup in the usual way, but a Slow Cooker is so convenient for part-time working moms, who arrive at home the same time as the their pinched with hunger teenagers. -=========REZKONV-Recipe - RezkonvSuite v1.4Title: Provençal Tomato Soup with Poached EggsCategories: Slow Cooker, Crockpot, SoupYield: 2 Servings Ingredients One 28-ounce can whole plum tomatoes, crushed -- and undrained1small Yellow onion, coarsely chopped1 Or 2 cloves garlic, to your taste, minced1 Medium-siz...

Very wholesome Chapati and Egg Rolls
2009-05-07 11:09:00 Come summer and my mind goes into the "Quick Recipes Mode" or the QRM as I like to call it. I mean it's simpy impossible to toil over the hob for hours at a stretch to cook elaborate meals . And the weather in UK being so kind for once , you just have to make the most of it and spend time outdoors as much as possible rather than in the kitchen. So currently I am constantly on the look out for recipes requiring minimum time but with no compromise on taste and full flavour. As you must have derived by now from my previous posts I fancy all kings of wraps. I just love making wraps. They are quick and easy to make , delicious and a single wrap can hold the nutrition of an entire balanced meal. And most important of all is that in my family all three of us like them just as much. So everybody is happy.Yesterday I made these chapati and egg wraps for my lunch and they tasted so good I just have to share them with all of you. What you need is:2 chapatis (homemade or readymade store bought)...

Baked Grits and Eggs with Cheese
2009-02-21 19:44:00 I've been eating grits since I was very young - perhaps shortly after birth - I'd have to ask mom. My family is not from The South - Midwest actually - but there's such a strong Southern influence in and around where my mom grew up that I have a fairly good grasp of Southern food. That's a good thing because some of the finest food in the world was born in the rural south here in the U.S. and it's something I think every good cook needs to have in their repertoire. Not only is Southern food hearty and full of flavor, it's also economical - which is also a good thing. When we were young my mom would often make grits, eggs and bacon for breakfast on weekends and there is nothing quite like those flavors blended together.I like to change things up a little and add cheese or green onion to my grits, but the kids don't always like that, so I usually cook up grits with cheese or even just lots of butter for them. This dish is a couple of my favorites all in one. Please don't use ins...

Fritatta
2009-01-16 14:22:00 Fritatta is something I have always been fascinated with but never cooked. For that matter until a few days back I had not even tasted a fritatta. But somehow it just always managed to catch my attention from pictures in food magazines and food blogs and of course food shows on TV. On one of my shopping trips I even bought a oven proof pan particularly with the intention of making a fritatta. I just loved the idea of eating a big fat omellete filled with all kinds of delicious veggies, cheeses and mushrooms.Well last week I was at the surgery (that's what a doctor's dispensary is called in UK) to see my GP . ( Reason for which was I had a nasty fall 2 weeks back and have been making quite a few trips to the doctor's for treatment on my leg which I hurt very badly.) So while I was sitting in the waiting area for my name to appear on the electronic display I was browsing through a magazine and once again my attention was drawn to a very yummy pic of fritatta. I memorised the ingred...

Italian Eggs
2009-01-07 16:51:00 What makes these eggs "Italian"? A movie! Moonstruck, to be exact. There is a scene in Moonstruck where Cher's character is making breakfast and she hollows out a slice of bread, tosses it in a frying pan and adds an egg to the hollowed out center. From the time I first saw that movie (long time ago!) I've been making this particular variation of those eggs.Start with a nice large loaf of Italian bread and cut into thick slices.Hollow out the center of each slice. Heat some oil in a heavy frying pan and add the bread.Add an egg to the center of each slice of bread. Do this slowly so the egg begins to set and doesn't flow out from underneath the bread. Cook until the bottom of the egg is well set.Flip once and allow to cook for a few minutes longer.Top with mozzarella cheese and lid the pan for a few minutes until the cheese melts.Voila! I sometimes add Mrs. Dash Garlic & Herb to the top of the eggs for extra flavor.
Watermelons And Eggs
2008-12-30 11:34:00 These egg shells were cut with a high intensity precision Laser Beam. This gives a very good idea of what can be achieved with a Laser Beam. This gives you an idea what laser surgery performed on one's eye is all about. Is it any wonder how one's vision can be improved in just a few moments? Science is sometimes wonderful, and it ' s still on the frontier of gaining new knowledge. Incredible what can be done with an eggshell and a laser beam. These are truly incredible. You'll love the cool watermelons, but you'll be blown away by the eggs! 'A true friend is someone who knows you're a good egg even if you're a little cracked. Chorizo Eggs
2008-12-26 17:21:00 Here's a good in-between-holidays dish. It's not very heavy, uses few ingredients and doesn't contain turkey OR ham. Really, some of us just can't take any more leftover recipes. Chorizo can be purchased either cooked - where the consistency is close to pepperoni - or uncooked like any other sausage. I used uncooked for this one, but I really prefer the cooked sticks of chorizo. Go with what you like.Chorizo EggsServes 3-48 eggs - beaten1/2 pound ground chorizo1/4 cup sliced green onion (aka scallions or spring onions)1 cup shredded cheddar cheeseHeat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat and brown chorizo. Drain if needed and add eggs, cheese and onion. Stir until eggs are cooked but not dry. Serve with warmed flour tortillas.

Mini Egg Rolls (Perfect for the school lunch box)
2008-09-16 22:03:00 It's been quite a few months since I shared any lunch box ideas so when I made these mini egg rolls for my son I knew they would make an appearance on my blog. But what put me into action sooner was my 6 year old . He had the egg rolls at school and liked them so much that when I asked him if he had enjoyed his lunch ,he said" Aai they were so good , you must put them on your blog".So here they are. Basically a sandwich but put together in a more interesting way. I occasionally buy these cute little wholewheat rolls in a pack of 6 from M&S. They are healthy no doubt as they are not only wholewheat but also seeded and secondly just the correct size for little hands to hold. Plus they appeal tremendously to children as avery welcome change from the normal sandwich.Though my son is very comfortable with most foods it is my constant endevour to get more and more veggies into him. So to make the rolls healthier I had a handful of chopped frozen veggies to the egg mixture. I als...

Cooking with Anna: Involtini e Melenzane
2008-06-04 16:54:00 So we are going to go back in time a little with this post. I hope you all don’t mind the time warp this blog sometimes is! It is hard sometimes figuring out when to post what! The life of a food blogger is all about organization…and sometimes the lack thereof. Anyway, as you all know, the week before our wedding, Anna, Roberto’s mom came to stay with us. She is a food blogger and member of The Foodie Blogroll! Her blog AnnaGarau.com features recipes from her native Sardinia. It is a great blog, full of wonderful anecdotes about Sardinia as well as beautiful pictures and she is quite the chef. It is in Italian, so if you want to check it out, and I recommend that you do, use one of those handy dandy translators like this translator from Google. You can even watch a video of traditional Sardinian dancing and singing - something Sardinians are known for. When she was here at our house, she was updating that post and we were having such a good time. I was really ...
Top Ten Tip - Cooking Perfect Deviled Eggs
2008-06-01 06:00:00 Deviled eggs are the perfect party food - easy to make, requires little, if any, cleanup, and can quickly be consumed without a fork or knife. Here’s how to make the perfect deviled egg: Determine How Many Eggs You Need - Figure that people are going to eat at least two eggs, or four halves, each. Find The Right Sized Pot - The pot should not be too small or too large; the eggs should fit in comfortably with at least two inches of water covering them. Bring The Pot To A Boil - Put the eggs in the pot, cover with water, add a teaspoon of table salt, and bring to a rolling boil. Do not use the pot cover. Cook The Eggs - Once the water starts boiling, time the eggs for five minutes. After the five minutes is up, cover the pot, turn off the stove, and let the eggs sit for another five minutes. Pour Hot Water Out Of Pot And Refill With Cold Water - Pour the water into the sink; be careful that the eggs do not fall out! Immediately cover the eggs with cold water and let them sit fo...

Daring Bakers: Let Them Eat Cake?at L?Opera!
2008-05-28 15:07:00 I want to start off by saying this is by far my favorite Daring Bakers Challenge yet. Why? Well, true to its name… It was very challenging, and it was a lot of firsts for me as well: first buttercream (that worked), first mousse (that worked), first time making almond flour and first time making dulce de leche. So after creating this cake, or 15 mini cakes, in my case, I felt really really accomplished and super happy about how delicious they were. So thank you very much Lis and Ivonne, our fearless founders for this wallop of a pastry! So here we are, just getting back from our wedding (there was cake there) and then our fabulous honeymoon in Jamaica (yes, there was cake involved there too) and when I check to see what the DB challenge for May is, I am faced again, with cake. Opera Cake to be exact, and when I printed out the directions and it was 9 pages long, I almost passed out from spiking glucose levels!!! Eggs: No Longer Your Diet Enemy
2008-05-15 23:03:00 For years eggs have been portrayed as a food that you should not eat for fear of raising your blood cholesterol levels. Recent studies have proven that this is not the case and in fact eggs have been found to be a nutritional goldmine. One large egg has 210 mgs. of cholesterol which seems like a lot, but a recent study from the University of Connecticut suggests that even after eating three eggs a day for 30 days, the ratio between HDL( good cholesterol) and LDL( bad cholesterol) did not change. The result is no increase or change in one’s...

Movie Night: A New Tradition - Recipes: Olive Cheese Balls, Lentil Koftas,
2008-05-12 16:05:00 I am all about tradition. Even as a young child, I always enjoyed re-occuring events based on a date, an event, or time. I don’t know what it is about me that just loves a good ritualistic event. Maybe it’s the food. Most likely…Now that I am an adult and getting older and recently married, I have started thinking more about traditions, what they mean to me and what kinds of traditions I want to start for my own family. When we lived in Vermont, we used to have Roberto’s girls with us every other weekend, and I loved cooking special things when they were there. Especially in anticipation of Movie Night. We would rent a movie and then make fun food, perfect for watching and eating at the same time. Recently Roberto and I decided that we really need to bring back Movie Night ? even if only for us. A time to get our jammies on and eat fun foods. We have done this three times so far and it seems to be sticking. We have prepared some really fun finger foods and m...
