Einstein Clocks and the Sagnac Effect
2011-11-10 10:00:00
Einstein's clock synchronization method is based on the principle that, in every inertial frame, the one-way speed of light in vacuum is the same as its average round-trip speed.^(a) In synchronization terms, it means the following. Let clocks A and B be at rest in an inertial frame; measure th

DATA STORAGE IN BACTERIA
2011-01-12 23:10:00
Students at The Chinese University of Hong Kong are pushing the envelope of data storage in the most unlikely of places--bacteria! The science behind it lies in what they call Biostorage--the art of storing and encrypting information onto living organisms. And what exactly does this mean? Well, just consider the fact that in 2007 a group of researchers were able to store Einstein's entire Theory of Relativity formula onto the DNA of a common soil bacterium. Whoa!
Baby Einstein: A Brilliant Term Crushed by Reality
2009-10-25 02:42:00
The New York Times announced today that the Walt Disney Company is offering refunds for all those ?Baby Einstein? videos that did not make children into geniuses. As the paper reports, the videos "may have been a great electronic baby sitter, but the unusual refunds appear to be a tacit admission that they did not increase infant intellect." Susan Linn, director of Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood, which has been pushing the issue for years was understandably pleased, seeing it "as an acknowledgment by the leading baby video company that baby videos are not educational."

Israeli Offer to Albert Einstein
2009-03-25 05:49:00
Albert Einstein is one of the greatest scientists of the world. As a man he was higher than that leaving aside his books and laboratories results. His observations about ordinary life are also astonishing.Being a Jew, he felt threatened when Hitler came to power. Hitler was of the opinion that Jews are lesser mortals and they will spoil the marshal German race. They should therefore be eliminated. Einstein decided to relinquish his German citizenship, migrated to America and lived there ever after.A delegation of Israeli leaders approached Albert Einstein with an aim to make him the head of Israel. According to them it would be an honour for Israel. But the delegates were disappointed. Albert Einstein did not accede to their request in spite of their sincerity of purpose."Life of researcher and discoverer is far better than heading a state," thought Einstein.

Albert Einstein
2008-09-24 10:00:00

Humor Edition: What Dr.Phil, Britney Spears, Einstein (& Others) Had To Say

In one my previous posts, I provided several ideas on how we can escape our daily monotonous routine. I thought I will take my own advice and apply it to this blog. So this is my attempt to take a break from the monotonous Enhance Life routine. Hope you enjoy the answers to this very old joke! Captain Kirk: To boldly go where no chicken has gone before.Dr.Phil: Well, we must first answer the question: how did the chicken feel about that?Einstein: Whether the chicken crossed the road or the road moved beneath the chicken is a matter of relativity.Britney Spears: Because it was not an egg, not yet a chicken.Sigmund Freud: The fact that you are at all concerned that the chicken crossed theroad reveals underlying insecurities that stem from your early relationships with your parents.Aristotle: It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.Albert Einstein: Whether the chicken crossed the road or the road crossed the chicken depends upon your frame of reference.Jack Nicholson: 'Cause...

Einstein Would Approve of Moving the Island on Lost
2008-06-01 23:11:00
Last night on Lost, Ben moved the island—presumably thousands of miles. Could he actually do that, without huge accelerations that would obliterate all structures and kill all the people on the island? The surprising answer, in physics, is yes … sort of. The trick is that you don’t really move the island. Rather, you change its space-time connection to the rest of the Earth. Space and time in relativity theory are quite flexible. Gravity is one manifestation of that. According to Einstein’s discovery, the presence of mass-energy warps space-time; what we perceive as gravity is just the curvature of space-time. That’s the Theory of General Relativity, now firmly established by experimental tests. The strange behavior of time and space (the fact that two twins traveling apart can experience different amounts of time, for example) are verified daily in our physics labs, using radioactive particles rather than twins. I’ve verified this myself.

Albert Einstein: 'belief in God childish'
2008-05-14 06:47:00
There has been a lot of debate over the decades about Albert Einstein's views on religion. Those who hoped to claim Einstein for the God team sometimes made reference to his quotation: "science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind." On the whole however, the great man remained fairly cryptic about where he stood on religious matters - until now that is.An Einstein letter that had been in a private collection for 50 years has gone up for auction in London. The letter leaves no doubt where Einstein stood on matters of a higher power and the status of the Jews as God's "chosen people."He wrote the letter on January 3 1954. It was addressed to the philosopher Eric Gutkind, who had sent Einstein a copy of his book - "Choose Life: The Biblical Call to Revolt."In speaking of God, Einstein was surprisingly direct:"The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legend...
Einstein?s Letter: Belief in God ?childish,? Jews not Chosen People

guardian.co.uk: Albert Einstein - A little known letter written by him… Due to be auctioned this week in London after being in a private collection for more than 50 years, the document leaves no doubt that the theoretical physicist was no supporter of religious beliefs, which he regarded as “childish superstitions”. Einstein penned the letter on January ...
Einstein letter calls Bible 'pretty childish'
2008-05-13 23:50:00
Famous scientist also dismisses belief in God as product of human weaknessLONDON - Albert Einstein: arch rationalist or scientist with a spiritual core?A letter being auctioned in London this week adds more fuel to the long-simmering debate about the Nobel Prize-winning physicist's religious views. In the note, written the year before his death, Einstein dismissed the idea of God as the product of human weakness and the Bible as "pretty childish."The letter, handwritten in German, is being sold by Bloomsbury Auctions on Thursday and is expected to fetch between $12,000 and $16,000.Einstein, who helped unravel the mysteries of the universe with his theory of relativity, expressed complex and arguably contradictory views on faith, perceiving a universe suffused with spirituality while rejecting organized religion. The letter up for sale, written to philosopher Eric Gutkind in January 1954, suggests his views on religion did not mellow with age.In it, Einstein said that "the word God i...

The father of relativity, whose previously known views on religion have been more ambivalent and fuelled much discussion, made the comments in response to a philosopher in 1954. Insightful Quotes by the Revered Physicist Albert Einstein
2008-05-03 03:48:00
Here are some insightful quotes by the revered physicist Albert Einstein. I used an echo statement to act as a delimiter, especially towards the bottom of the list. I do not know who Kevin Harris is but it must have taken him awhile to compile this list. echo "Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction." echo "Imagination is more important than knowledge." echo "Gravitation is not responsible for people falling in love." echo "I want to know God's thoughts; the rest are details." echo "The hardest thing in the world to understand is the income tax." echo "Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one." echo "The only real valuable thing is intuition." echo "A person starts to live when he can live outside himself." echo "I am convinced that He (God) does not play dice." echo "God is subtle but he is not malicious." e...
