The Healthy Parents Fellowship program is dedicated to battling child obesity in the neighborhood of Washington Heights. Led by founder and health activist, Catarina Rivera, the initiative is currently seeking funding to jump start its goals of health and entrepreneur training for parents, publicity for the project, materials and supplies, and space for its work. Washington Heights ranks second-highest in the city for childhood obesity. The Healthy Parents Fellowship really wants to change this statistic by developing community leaders that will in turn, activate community awareness. You can help fund their cause here. 2009-12-17 18:29:00 After using my Moleskine for almost a year, I realized what I thought was the world's best sketchbook was not even close. The cover often bends out of shape, the spine makes my pages shift like a deck of cards, and it contains pages so incredibly thin that pretty much everything goes through it. While no sketchbook is perfect, I believe my fairly harsh critique was influenced by price and marketing/branding of a Moleskine. In other words, I expected something better considering how much I paid for it! This got me thinking: ?Yes, while no sketchbook is perfect, just what did I not like about the Moleskine or even sketchbooks in general?? I thought about all the problems I had with sketchbooks, and after that made a list of key points of what I thought my dream sketchbook would be like. And like a typical designer, I knew from that moment I could design one that was better. I hope!

Held at Bishan Junction 8 open gallery at the 3rd floor, there were exhibits from various institutions including Singapore Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Innova Junior College, Anderson Junior College, Victoria Junior College, etc. Singer and entrepreneur Genie's music school had a booth too.Among the exhibits, what caught my attention was the booth by Innova JC. The students were selling custom-made pin badges. According to the teacher, the school had patent over the gadget which was used to make the badges. With one simple touch on the lever, the badge is done. I bought two badges, one of which I penned a quote and gave it to Bao Hui.Another booth worth a mention was the booth by Anderson JC students. They were selling T-shirts that they had designed, together with this small cute little plant [see picture below]....

2008-03-28 20:43:00 Singapore to invest over S$1b to grow innovation & entrepreneurship By May Wong, Â Â SINGAPORE: Singapore will invest over S$1 billion to grow innovation and entrepreneurship. A national framework has also been set up, spelling out initiatives to advance R&D-based innovation and enterprise in Singapore. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said this after a three-day meeting by the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council (RIEC). Mr Lee is the chairman of RIEC, which comprises renowned academics and corporate leaders. The RIEC was set up to advise the Singapore government on national research policies and strategies. One of the key objectives under the National Framework for Innovation and Enterprise (NFIE) is to make sure that research projects undertaken by local universities are commercially viable.
