I was at the Children's Museum this morning and saw the display featuring artwork from kids ages 1 through 15. I admire this project and whole-heartedly believe in the value of artmaking for all children. In conjunction with this exhibit, art & soul is hosting a special event that I want to tell you about (because it is worthwhile and also free). Over 2 days approximately 80 of the 120 villas were selected in the order that their reservations were placed and nearly 100 Million Dollars of real estate was selected. It was pretty exciting as each buyer was contacted to make their choice and then the board of available units was reduced by one. According to the sales office, during the next 30 to 45 days, there will be no further sales while they get the units under contract closed and decide how they will be pricing the last 40 units. It’s a magazine created by the Fashion Magazine team dedicated to men’s fashion. There were cigars and a small cigar lounge setup outside. I have been more involved with this project than any other in my career and am now in full understanding of the risks that a developer takes. It's easy to think of how great it would be if everything goes great, but the vulnerability to outside forces can not be understated. This project has experienced many adverse conditions. An economic downturn of near biblical proportions, deterioration of market values, declines in the tourist industry, changing lender guidelines and Home Owner Association (HOA) issues have all taken their toll on the event. And yet, it seemed that with a 7 week postponement, the event was still going to be successful. Retro: May 2002 S2000 event at TWS
2009-06-06 19:03:00 After an event at Texas World Speedway sponsored by John Eagle Honda on May 18 and 19, 2002, I was asked to drive a couple of demonstration laps for a video. Problem is that the air temp was over 110, the surface temp was over 150, and over the course of the very long weekend I'd already done well over 500 laps (3.1 miles each) in my own run group, driving other people's cars in their run groups, and instructing my students in their own cars. That's 4 out of 5 ~22 minute run groups, repeated 8 times a day, for two days. Needless to say, there wasn't much left of me by then. But what the heck... one last lap. Onboard is a videographer from the "Temple of VTEC" website, who edited this film and added the music overlay. We did two laps after the event ended.
