RUMORS VS. FACTS: Casting war! Anne Hathaway, Julia Stiles, Rachel McAdams,
2009-11-20 06:50:00
Four awesome young actresses are reported/rumored to be positioning themselves for a possible role in the next Spiderman movie. The character in contention: The Black Cat. But before we go any further, is this newsworthy? Definitely. While it maybe just a fictional character, Black Cat is quite interesting and intriguing. She's been related to Spiderman in the past and her descent into the world of crime is worth a good look. Has casting actually started? No confirmation yet from the studio, but with the names of the actresses being mentioned, fans are, indeed, getting excited. Two of these fab actresses are known for both period and contemporary films - Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married/Becoming Jane) and Romola Garai ( Inside I'm Dancing/Atonement), while the other two - Julia Stiles and Rachel McAdams are more 'inclined' to portray modern characters, or so it seems... As of this writing, McAdams is already out of contention. Enter... Eliza Dushku! (nahhh, sh...

Here Are the Facts
2009-11-16 01:22:00
The Bears are bad.  They're awful.  They've lost five games this season and in three of them they outplayed their opponent significantly.  The other two are the poorest defensive efforts of the last twenty-five years.  The Bears make more mistakes than any other team in the league while seemingly lacking in all fundamental areas of the game. And they're one game out of the wildcard race.  Whatever the reason - and there are many - that is a fact.  The Chicago Bears are one game out of the wildcard race.  They are tied with San Francisco and Carolina at 4-5.  They are chasing the Giants, Philadelphia, Green Bay and Atlanta at 5-4.I'm not making an argument for the Bears making the...
(Untitled) (2009): Movie review and facts about the art
2009-11-03 20:54:00
(Untitled) "When did beautiful become so fucking ugly" (Untitled) is an interesting case in that it's in many ways a poke-fun-at-weird art movie, but it's a little more insider than that, and the satire has moments where it's close enough to real life that it stings a bit. It's like somebody making fun of a friend, and it's funny at first, and then it crosses the line and you feel a little defensive. One challenge I'd like to see films like Art School Confidential and (Untitled) take on it is help people also like it, which is supposed to be the other hand of satire (technically, in satire, you...

Collin County Foreclosure Facts
2009-09-10 22:05:00
Collin County Foreclosure Facts A client called yesterday and wanted some foreclosure info to help fight property tax increases, the criteria went something like this: can you do a search for all sold foreclosures in Collin County this year by Fannie Mae? The answer is yes, I can do by seller type: as in foreclosure but to break it down by owner type is difficult because this is not an input field that every listing agent fills in.  So we broke it down to all foreclosures sold in Collin County since 2009 and all prices.  Can you guess the number? Don't think you'll be surprised.... 1172 units have sold in Collin County.  When I ran the report today 10 more had closed.  Yes, friends that world is fast and furious.  68% of these properties are under $200K.  But there are some upper end gems out there.  Over $500K represents 2.2% of the sold inventory. Just to give you another idea of the break neck activity, there are only 201 active foreclos...

Sotomayor's decisions are "based more on the merits and facts of the cases"

Legal experts cited by Reuters in a piece by Steve Holland say Judge Sonia Sotomayor doesn't appear to be either particularly liberal or conservative on business issues, with decisions based more on the merits and facts of the cases than an ideological approach to the law.Replacing a liberal justice with one who decides cases on their merits rather than politics doesn't mean the GOP will just give her a pass, they have to at least appear adversarial for the sake of their base - but despite predictable wailing and knee-jerk gnashing of rhetorical teeth from the usual extreme right info-tainers pandering for ratings, the folks in DC expect Ms. Sotomayor to be confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice.A comment from 2005 may prove sticky if quoted out of context, but this is no activist ideologue. Judge Richard C. Wesley, a George W. Bush appointee to the Second Circuit, said:"Sonia is an outstanding colleague with a keen legal mind. She brings a wealth of knowledge and hard work to all h...

Facts Don?t Alter Some Liberals? Anti-Conservative Prejudices
2009-04-22 22:40:00
There are days when our critics do our work for us. By their very words, they discredit their own criticism (in some cases, criticism is a euphemism for what might more accurately be called name-calling). In reply to my post on how some on the left go through life with blinders on making it tough for ...
Left is About Emotion; Conservatives Geared to Facts
2009-04-09 21:59:00
In a comment to Ann Althouse’s post referencing my theory on Althouse Derangement Syndrome, her reader John opined on how the left and right handle their ideological adversaries: Ann is very much a centrist. Further her site is sometimes funny and almost always interesting. Who cares if she toes the right or left line as long ...

When Up Against the Wall on Facts?.Play the Race Card

Why does CNBC allow someone to come on and spewnonsense? That is the case of the below video clip. [flash http://plus.cnbc.com/rssvideose-arch/action/player/id/105689665-4/code/cnbcplayershare] What is the issue? Stopping the corporate practice of firing Americans and replacing those U.S. workers with cheaper foreign guest workers. There is a fundamental divide where the issue is not immigration but simply a global cheap labor supply. That divide in immigration of any kind is when new workers are not in addition to but in place of. It's clear from this rant Wadhwa doesn't want that differentiation to be even realized. Vivek Wadhwa literally comes on this segment, with incredible fear mongering, mis-categorizes temporary foreign guest worker Visas as immigrants and also implies all of America are a bunch of xenophobes. Literally! This is the most idiotic rhetoric we've heard to date. Fortunately Dr. Ron Hira was the other guest. Hira patiently tries to present the facts o...
Facts of Purim
2009-03-09 11:07:00
Like every Jewish historic festival, Purim is a rather blood-thirsty celebration. On Pesach, God made himself known to Israelites specifically by wholesale killing of the Egyptians (Exodus 7:5, 14:17). Jews also were less than politically correct then: the only time the Torah applies the word neighbor to our opponents is when we borrowed jewelry from ...

2009-02-28 07:00:00
A state of emergency is declared in California, with an “official” unemployment rate over 10%, and tens of thousands of growing, desperate people maxing out services. Fast facts about your body

Some more fun facts, you just gotta love em :-) From the page: Hiccups happen when the diaphragm, the muscle that controls our breathing, becomes irritated and start to spasm and contract uncontrollably. With each contraction, air is pulled into the lungs very quickly, passes through the voice box, and then the epiglottis closes behind the rush of air, shaking the vocal chords, causing the "hic" sound. The irritation can be caused by rapid eating, emotional stress and even some diseases. The best cure? Breathing into a paper bag. This calms the diaphragm by increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in your bloodstream. The length from your wrist to your elbow is the same as the length of your foot. Your heart beats 101,000 times a day. During your lifetime it will beat about 3 billion times and pump about 400 million litres (800 million pints) of blood. Your mouth produces 1 litre (1.8 pints) of saliva a day."Read More...
