Top Ten Reasons Why We Detest Packers Fans
2009-12-10 12:25:00
With the Packers coming to town this week, so too will many of their green and gold faithful. This bunch consists of individuals I wouldn't lift a finger for regardless of time or place. Why? Let me explain with the Top Ten Things We Detest About Packers Fans....
Chicago Sports Fans Could Never Run A Successful Sports Franchise
2009-11-30 17:59:00
What I am about to say may insult you as a Chicago sports fan, but  honestly it's gotten to my boiling point and I have to vent.  Chicago sports are too much about "What have you done for me lately" and not enough "patience."  It seems the only answer Chicago sports fans have for any semblance of struggle is "You're fired!"    In the past five years, all our Chicago sport teams have had some sort of success and all our Chicago sport teams have made the postseason.  The Bulls/Bears/Blackhawks/White Sox/Cubs have all made the postseason with four of those five going numerous times.  Although the only title won came from the South Side, the city has had recent success in...
Vikings Fans' Lame Version of Sweet Home Chicago
2009-11-27 18:32:00
The goal here is to tell me your favorite part of this music video. For me, it's definitely the two chicks trying to keep time with the alternating left/right finger snaps. It's just classic. They were concentrating so hard they didn't even really smile....
Great News for Fans of "Bloom County"
2009-11-26 21:26:00
Not subscribing to a newspaper I rarely have occasion to read the comics these days -- but my childhood and teenage years were spent devouring "Calvin and Hobbes", Trudeau's "Doonesbury" and Berkley Breathed's "Bloom County" (circa 1980-1989). For those who don't recognize the latter, IDW Publishing has announced the launch of The Bloom County Complete Library -- "a five volume collection featuring every daily and Sunday strip in chronological order, many reprinted for the first time."The Bloom County Library will also contain a series of "Context Pages" sprinkled throughout the volumes, providing perspective for the reader and presenting a variety of real-life events and personalities that were contemporary at the time of original publication. In a recent interview with Los Angeles Times' "Hero Complex", Breathed describes the circumstances that led to his decision to relenquish cartooning:“When you’re young, you miss things, you just don’t see them,” said the 52-year-ol...
Top Ten Things Chicago Fans Have To Be Thankful For
2009-11-25 11:50:00
It's that time of year where we should all take a step back and give thanks for the things that mean most to us. And seeing as how Chicagoans can't go a day without the latest updates on their favorite franchises, I thought I'd take a look at what we should be thankful for as fans in the greatest sports city on the planet. I give you the Top Ten Things Chicago Fans Have to Be Thankful For. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your entire family!...
Seven Things Chicago Bears Fans Must Understand About 2009....
2009-11-24 18:28:00
As I recover from my Bears/Eagles hangover from Sunday night, I've found myself becoming not so much upset and the Bears themselves or the coaching staff.  I do not know if it's the constant over-reacting by Bears fans every week or whatever, but I am becoming less and less a fan of Bear fans.  Not to say that Bear fans shouldn't expect great things of this team, but sometimes I think Bear fans need to be a little more realistic and less ignorant.  So here's my guide for the later type of Bears fan.  Here are seven things that you (as Bear fans) should really understand about this team and just get used to the idea for the remainder of...

So if you're heading to the game on Sunday night against the Philadelphia Eagles, keep an eye out for each of the Top Ten Bears Fans You'll Find at Soldier Field. ...
Steelers Fan Says He Was Poisoned By Bears Fans
2009-11-17 19:31:00
Back in September the Chicago Bears opened up their home schedule with a big last-minute victory over the defending Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers. The season was fresh and new, the weather was still warm and the sweet mixture of beer and victory was wet on the lips of Bears fans all over the city.  Things weren't so cheery for the Steelers fans. One in particular is claiming that Bears fans poisoned his drink after the game, leaving him blind and brain damaged. After the game 46-year-old Zack Heddinger, his sister Lisa, and some friends went to Kitty O'Shea's on Michigan Avenue, where he claims they began trash talking with Bears fans. ...
Ice Bowl Great For Charity, Bad For Fans
2009-11-16 19:51:00
It's always a good thing when a charity event is sold out. More bodies equals more tickets equals more money for a good cause. Brent Seabrook's Charity Ice Bowl on Saturday afternoon was not only sold out, it was oversold. The event raised tons of money for I.C.E. (the Inner-City Education program) but left a lot of disappointed Blackhawks fans. At last year's event, Hawks players were available for photos and autographs from beginning to end. Players and fans could move from the lounge area to the lanes freely, allowing for a ton of interaction and a very relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. This year, for the first hour or so of the event the players were sequestered in a private room...
Something to Cheer Up Bears Fans
2009-11-14 01:54:00
Since Bears fans and the namesake have had a rough week, I found a video gem to cheer you all up. It comes from Powder, or as I like to call him, Mini-Conan O' Brien. You may recall him from such videos on JCS like the "Jay Cutler Rap". Turns out he's a huge Packer fan and he has a new "rap" called "Packer Backer". You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll send it to your friends and you'll make your kids promise they will NEVER write rhymes like this. Without further ado......
Bear fans could have taken advantage of great weather by leaving at halftim
2009-11-08 20:49:00
The score was close, 77-67, that's degrees, with Phoenix beating Chicago for the temperature today. But for a November day, we'll take it every time. A moral victory. As for the Bears, let the record show that I said on 670 the Score yesterday that the season ended last week when the Bears couldn't score in the red zone at the end against a Cleveland team that would wind up dumping its general manager in the middle of the season. But given the herd mentality of the local media, you still saw stories this week about how after today's game those next four were going to be critical....

Rap Fans Must Choose: The Gucci Mane Cometh
2009-11-06 13:06:00
I might get myself in trouble for this one, but for today's column, I had to say something about the ri-damn-diculous rap that has taken over the mainstream.  Though I've questioned Bill Cosby's desire to make a rap album in the past, I can now see where he is coming from as the rise of the Gucci Mane and co. continue.  Do weigh in on the issue, I can take it.  With no further ado, I give you today's Kyles Files topic. Rap fans, the war for your immortal souls has begun. On Nov. 24, Bill Cosby officially releases "The Cosnarati: State of Emergency," a rap compilation bereft of misogyny, materialism and the "n-word."Approximately two weeks later, Gucci Mane will unleash...

Can MMA Lure the Latino Fans?
2009-10-27 01:50:00
Young white males between 18 and 35 years old has been the fan base that the UFC has relied upon, quite similar to the WWE/WWF.  The sport of MMA even seems to draw its fighters from this demographic.  But can MMA lure the Latino community away from their boxing heros?  Boxing has had icons like Oscar de la Hoya and Cesar Chavez, whereas the UFC has launched Rich Franklin and Matt Hughes, two very grass-roots American fighters into their spot light at the beginning of their upward rise.  De La Hoya vs Chavez...
Onk Bak Fans - Check out Interview from NY Times
2009-10-25 17:10:00
Tony Jaa might be the world's biggest action star you haven't heard of. The 33-year-old Thai martial-arts master garnered international acclaim thanks to his starring role in 2003's Ong Bak, a freewheeling romp about a villager who travels to Bangkok to retrieve a stolen statue -- with violent results. The film took two years to reach the States, but Jaa's balletic movements and wirework-free stunts made him an instant cult figure. Now comes Ong Bak 2, Jaa's directorial debut. (He shared duties with his fight choreographer, Panna Rittikrai.) For his first time behind the camera, Jaa demonstrates no lack of ambition, jettisoning the original film's giddy spirit for a brooding, more emotionally layered fifteenth-century tale of revenge, romance, and Buddhist philosophy. Currently...

Top 5 Most Annoying Fans In Baseball
2009-10-21 19:18:00
Typical Cards fan at a Morans vs. USA game. After two days of Tweets from insufferable Yankees fans, it was inevitable that this topic would come up. I can think of a lot of obnoxious fans in sports. Packers fans come immediately to mind. NASCAR fans are up there for sure (do they cheer for specific drivers, or just for NASCAR in general?). Minnesota Vikings fans, who conveniently forget that they've never won anything, would have to be on the list. But in order to keep this list manageable, let's restrict it to baseball fans. If you cheer for another team, you probably think Cubs fans should make the top 5. Ha! Wrong. Why would I call myself annoing? If you...
StubHub In Haiku: A Cruel Joke On Cubs Fans?

What the hell StubHubCubs fans aren't depressed enoughSo now you send this? Here is an email I received this afternoon from StubHub.  The "Check it out" link points to the StubHub page to purchase LCS and WS tickets.  I thought it might be a practical joke from a friend, but the stubhub-mail.com domain is registered to StubHub.  And the address matches other email I've received from StubHub, which also referred to "your Chicago Cubs" - presumably because I requested info on Cubs tickets in the past.Did anyone else receive a similar email?...
Take That Cardinal Fans
2009-10-10 03:07:00
So, I am watching the Cardinals/Dodgers NLDS game 2 on Thursday night and with two outs and nobody on base in the bottom of the ninth inning I said to my wife and kids that the Cardinals were in great shape heading to St. Louis even in the series at 1-1. Then James Loney hit a line drive to left and in comes Matt Holliday to boot the ball and give the Dodgers life. Two walk and two hits later the Dodgers were celebrating a most improbable 3-2 win and the Cardinals were leaving the field in complete disbelief. Well, take that Cardinal Nation. You are considered the best fan base in the game and while I respect your passion for...

5 Amazing Twitter Bots For Gtalk Fans!
2009-09-17 06:33:00
I have been a huge fan of the IM world. It has sped up and simplified our way of communication in such a way that even the long distance between Kolkata and California seems so small. Personally I have been a  big addict of the legendary Google Chat. You can do lot of interesting stuff with Google Talk like Chat with friends and colleagues, get alert notifications, save bookmarks to Delicious, manage web calendars, set reminders, write blogs, and so on. Such features can be easily integrated into Google Talk through ‘bots’ which, in simple English, are like virtual friends who are online 24×7 and will always respond with a smile to your questions or requests. The bots work on platforms like Jabber and are coded to generate automatic response to any user query. After WATBlog reviewed 5 best Twitter clients, I thought of compiling a list of 5 best Twitter bots for Google Talk enthusiasts. (P.S.: These will work only for Gtalk) According to ease of use and features available I h...

Cubs Live Game Thread: Fear Not, Cubs Fans!
2009-09-16 23:27:00
Worried about Sam Fuld being out for a week? Terrified about our lack of scrappy OFs to fill his shoes? Fear not, Cubs fans. Help is on the way! The Cubs called up So Taguchi from Triple-A Iowa, and he will be in uniform for Wednesday's game against the Brewers. Taguchi batted .248 for Iowa with four homers and 24 RBIs. The Cubs felt they needed an extra outfielder after Sam Fuld strained his right thumb. Fuld will be sidelined at least a week. Taguchi, 40, played for the Phillies last season, appearing in 88 games and batting .220. So, as you can see, we have nothing to worry about. What more could we ask for than a guy...

Following her electrifying tribute performance at the VMA's, Janet Jackson gave her fans a 'special gift' on her official website in the form of a new song called 'Make Me'. Little officially is known about the cut, though it's assumed it was produced by longtime collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and that (for a fact) it isn't her new single - although it may feature on her new album.Wow!

Shops and restaurants are blitzing the crowds that are swarming Michigan Avenue to watch  Oprah Winfrey kick off the 24th season of her talk show. From Brazilian steakhouse Brazzaz to the Chicago staple Rosebud Restaurants, local eateries passed out fliers promoting their locations and special discounts. Pop quiz, tell me the preseason record of the 2008 World Champion Pittsburgh Steelers. (Insert Jeopardy game show music here) Ok . . . time is up. The answer is 3-1. I know the preseason doesn't count for anything during the regular season but it sets the tone. We were able to finish on a great note with a win last Thursday against the Cleveland Browns and finish the preseason 3-1. Always good to create a winning culture heading into the regular season. It's great for the team but especially for the younger players to feel the...
Barca Fans in India to Miss on La Liga Action
2009-09-07 19:42:00
There are reports emerging there is a high chance of the La Liga fans in India missing out on this season's actions. ESPN Star network had the right to telecast La Liga last season. The fans had already missed the opening day matches but was pinning hope of ESPN-Star network bagging the rights late on. But now it looks like that is a non-existent option. ESPN STAR Sports paid 1 million/ year last season for the telecast of La Liga action. In most times they showed deferred and truncated matches; but still La Liga fans were satisfied as they could catch some actions of the same. La Liga matches start late in the night in India and ESPN STAR Sports has decided it does not make economic sense to air the same. Now the only Barca action we will be hoping to catch will be the Champions league actions, which will be aired by Ten Sports and Zee Sports. In India Cricket has more priority than football. Actually a minority watches football matches. Cricket survives because of India and that w...
Fans choose new Emmy award

The people behind the annual Emmy awards really want people to watch the Sept. 20 telecast. They're practically begging you to watch. The awards show producers already have announced that they are cutting several awards from the broadcast in order to show clips from those shows that have a lot of viewers but very few nominations. (Yes, the shows American TV viewers actually watch are rarely the same shows that critics love and awards-show panels like to nominate.) Anyway, this year TV fans can cast their own votes for the "Breakthrough Performance of the Year." Voting already is underway at tv.com. Among the 15 moments you get to vote on are scenes from "True Blood," "Dancing with the Stars,"...

He said that about this story he sent us from the Denver Post. Let's start with the photo:http://blogs.denverpost.c-om/broncos/...

Cubs Fans and Racism: A Very Special LOHO Podcast
2009-08-28 23:34:00
When: Sunday, August 30, 2009 7:00 pm CT Where:  http://www.blogtalkradio.-com/aleagueofherown Call-in Number:  (347) 884-8570 All kidding aside, I know the allegations about Cubs fans and racism raised by Milton Bradley (but not for the first time) have upset a lot of fans. They've upset me. What's been even more distressing is the rift the discussions (arguments? invective-filled rants?) have created between blogs, friends, and presumably, Cubs players and fans. To be honest, both sides have points to make. However, instead of talking about racism, an issue that affects ALL of us in this country, in a constructive manner, the discussion has devolved into a lot of people franticallly posting borderline-deranged (thanks, Proggy) comments insulting those who disagree with them. Team Canada stresses speed and spurns Campbell: be worried, Blackhawks fans
2009-08-25 16:31:00
The immediate word out of Team Canada orientation camp in Calgary is that speed and up-tempo play will be the name of their game as revenge is sought for that last stinkeroo performance in the 2006 Olympics at Turin. Then where in the world is Blackhawks defenseman Brian Campbell? One reason the Blackhawks threw mountains of cash at him was because Campbell is one of the NHL's fastest defensemen, and the Toronto Star's Damien Cox even ventured out further on the rim by opining "that the fastest Canadian defenseman in the world would be Campbell."There's quite a simple explanation why Campbell wasn't invited to play with the big boys this week. Team Canada coach Mike Babcock and executive director Steve Yzerman...
