Tom Coburn Channels Albert Camus
2009-12-18 21:28:00
In one of the great works of the last century, the French Nobel laureate defined “un homme révolté” (translated into English as a “rebel”) simply as a man who who says “no.”  In saying “no” to one thing, he says “yes” to something else: Apparently negative since it creates nothing, this revolt is profoundly positive because ...
Freedom Fridays: Democracy in Action VOTE!
2009-12-11 15:16:00
It's Friday, I'm cold, and no one is particularly catching my fancy this morning. This being DH's first week, it was sort of an All-Star version of Chicago's hottest hotties, featuring the hottest guy from each team. But I want to know who you think is the hottest of the hot. Take another gander at the gallery and vote! The winner will earn an automatic induction into DH's "Hot Hall of Fame." (Poor John Thorrington doesn't have a chance in this one :( ) poll by twiigs.com...
Freedom Baptist Church sued for defamation by former member
2009-10-26 23:33:00
A drill team director is suing his former church for alleged false and defamatory statements that he inappropriately touched one of the youth. Charles Coleman was a drill team director at Freedom Baptist Church of the Greater Chicago Area before resigning- from the position and joining another church in 2008.   The following summer, in June of 2009, while Coleman was attending the National Baptist Training Union Conference, he greeted and hugged one of the youth from his old church.  Former friends and parishoners then- allegedly confronted Coleman about the incident, stating among other things "The next time you touch one of our kids, we are going to f--k you up." According to the complaint, Coleman did not know what these comments were based on and at a meeting later that month...
Debate: A Need For Freedom From Restrictions On Social Media’s Use At
2009-10-22 07:43:00
Lets face it, majority of the companies block social media sites, especially social networking sites in the offices. On the other hand, same companies want to publicize themselves / their products through the same social media. So what is the main reason for companies to avoid using their workforce as their social media publicity team and not leverage the extended networks of their employees? Let us drill down on the reasons from the perspective of employers on blocking the social media sites. As they say, “With great power comes greater responsibility” and according to most of the companies, the responsibility part is more often than not ignored 1) Procrastination – This is by far the most important reason for companies to block all the social networking websites in the offices. When people start abusing instead of using the facility, the work planning suffers and the companies are not yet willing to pay you for chatting with 10 friends at the same time. 2) Perce...

Shi-an-ta wrote a new blog post: Freedom... There is a question in my mind I never seem to find a answer to. Why do people always want to own you when you spend some time with them?  You’re not even in a relationship, yet it seems they want to tie you down to their social life, beliefs and feelings…. I’m a grown woman, there ...

Standing for Smaller Government Will Help GOP Win Perot Voters
2009-09-22 10:38:00
It seemed sweetly serendipitous that barely forty-eight hours after speculating about the potential for “Perot voters” (those particularly concerned about the exploding federal debt) to decide the 2010 — and possibly the 2012 — election that I would chance upon a Gallup poll showing that Americans are more likely than ever to say the government ...
Americans not warming to big government
2009-09-22 02:00:00
Since President Obama took office in January, every poll (I’ve seen) measuring popular support on the relative levels of federal spending shows a substantial majority or considerable plurality preferring reducing the size of the government to increasing expenditures.  The latest Gallup poll confirms what we’ve been observing these past eight months (and even before): 57% of ...
Why President Should Focus on Economy
2009-09-21 07:40:00
Nearly two weeks ago, I suggested the President let go of his fixation on overhauling of the nation’s health care system and focus in the economy.  If he did so, I argued, he’d reverse his slide in the polls and leave Republicans clueless. Now, a recent helps to confirm my hypothesis.  In the FoxNews poll I ...

Obama Refuses to Meet With Dalai Lama
2009-09-18 15:30:00
Oftentimes, in L.A., you’ll see an aging Volvo or a new Prius sporting a “Free Tibet” bumper sticker, often alongside a sticker promoting a Democratic candidate or left-wing cause.  It seems the many Buddhists in this town ally themselves (at least politically) with the other left-wing denizens of this burg. Wonder how they’ll react when they ...

Free market Education from Center for freedom and prosperity

To think that some people pay for education. Hmmm, if I weren't working for the government, I'd be doing something important like...full-time blogging. More below. I have a policy of not posting things I see on the big con-blogs (like The Corner in this case), but the dude asked me to because he relies on viral marketing. Over the past hour or so, I’ve been regularly checking Yahoo!’s homepage to see if they offer any news or link any headlines about the massive Tea Party protest against big government in our nation’s capital.  With as many as two million people attending, you’d think it would merit more attention than a petition with ...

Obama Helps Harden Disdain Americans Feel For Government
2009-09-11 02:30:00
As I organized my thoughts about the President’s speech on health care last night, what struck me more than anything was the utter disingenuousness of the address.  Even as he engaged in harsh attacks on his critics, he spoke in conciliatory terms about listening to Republican ideas and working in a bipartisan manner. But, his biggest ...

Freedom of speech in the United States Lately, I have been the recipient of several rather hate-filled emails and messages on Yahoo Messenger. The messages were telling me to STOP writing the things I write concerning the ...
Can Healthcare Debate Help Revive GOP?(even with biased media)
2009-09-05 17:57:00
When a friend on Facebook offered that the anti-[Obamacare] side “short circuited the [healthcare] debate with craziness,” I responded with a rhetorical question: Did the anti-side short circuit the debate or did the media coverage of their opposition short circuit [it], given the media focus on [its] most extreme elements? It does seem many in the media ...

2009-09-01 06:07:00
Perhaps Barack Obama’s biggest failure as President was (as I have argued before) the same as George H.W. Bush’s:  he misread his mandate.  The incumbent accelerated his fall from grace by so quickly reversing course on so many of the campaign promises he made which helped secure his support among moderate voters. And there’s something else. He ...

Small Government Principles Key To Republican Revival
2009-08-22 02:32:00
While many Democrats saw their sweeping victories last fall as the sign of a new era of liberal ascendancy, polling taken then and since shows that despite Barack Obama’s brief period of popularity, America remains a center-right nation.  Conservatives outnumber liberals in every state, with nearly twice as many Americans identifying as conservative than as ...

Left Incredulous at Rallies Against Big Government, for Freedom
2009-08-12 21:00:00
If there’s one expression which explains the hysterical reaction of Democrats and their allies among left-wing bloggers and the liberal punditry to the growing grassroots protests against President Obama’s plans to increase the size of the government and limit our freedom, it’s the opening line of a recent Michelle Malkin column, “The activist Left can?t ...

Understanding that this makes us ungrateful citizens, we ask our readers with what patriotic duty we have left to report this article to flag@whitehouse.gov.***) As the Obama administration begins to figure out that, not only do a large number of American's disagree with the type of Health Care "reform" he seeks to implement, they may have yet another thorn in their side. American's don't like people spying on them. I refer of course to the White House blog, which has been widely reported of late, for asking Americans, to turn in those, who even in "casual conversation" differ from Obama's policy on Health Care. Even more shocking than the fact people could dissent from the Obama administration, and be so ungrateful for the gifts h...
Liberty, not Racism, Drives Critics of Obamacare
2009-08-08 02:54:00
If there was a theme which unites two of the biggest issues bloggers have been reporting, discussing and debating this week, it would be the projections all too many liberals cast on their conservative counterparts.  First, they accused us of backing the “birthers.”  Then, they used various slurs to attack our opposition to the President’s ...

It seems a day does not go by without my receiving some e-missive from the various gay groups touting their efforts to promote equality.   I’m most amused when I receive such missives from the group calling itself Freedom (sic) to Marry, its leaders obviously oblivious to the longstanding tension between those two concepts. Recently, Kathy Griffin ...

2009-07-22 11:15:00
FFRF, based in Madison, Wisconsin, has filed a lawsuit to block the Architect of the Capitol from engraving "In god we trust" and the corrupted, anti-atheist, purported Pledge of Allegiance into the walls of the new Capitol Visitor Center. Here's the FFRF Press Release regarding their lawsuit. Their lawsuit eliminates the need for Michael Newdow and me to clean up that particular mess, which is fine by us, because we've got so many other state/church separation cases going that we atheists, the true patriots in this country, would barely have time to add yet another to challenge to Constitution-hating Christian legislators....

Saudi Arabia, Blogging And The Freedom Of Expression
2009-07-13 09:15:00
The internet is an excellent source of information, and the development of social media has revolutionised the way the internet is being used. True, the UGC is a great opportunity for marketing enthusiasts. But more importantly, the Web has given a excellent platform for people to speak out aloud, whether in appreciation, critical review, or more importantly, in dissent. The Iran Elections took the world by surprise. We blogged about how Iran citizens were using Twitter to broadcast their voices of revolution in a country where civil rights are suppressed without much regard. (On a more retrospective tone, we also blogged about how civil dissent on the internet is easier to monitor and thereby suppress). Which is why this article by Reuters on bloggers testing the boundaries in Saudi Arabia is very relevant to the current scenario. The article mentions how bloggers in Saudi Arabai are forming a close community. Saudi Arabia is well known for its press censorship which is why it is v...

Zoos, Habit(at)s and Thoughts on Animal and Human Freedom
2009-07-13 05:46:00
In Yann Martel?s acclaimed book ?Life of Pi? the first person narrator defends the case for zoos and discusses notions of freedom from the point of view of animals. Some people criticize zoos for being confined spaces as opposed to the natural habitat and forms of life and it boils down to questions of freedom and happiness. Are zoos a form of jail for the animals and are they unhappy there? Are they stressed because of all the human attention and the clicking cameras and the pointy fingers?A zoo is indeed a confined space, but it comes with various advantages. One of them is safety; another is a steady supply of food. In the wild it is literally a jungle. All the animals need to hunt for food in order to avoid starvation, but with it there is the constant danger of becoming prey to other stronger and fiercer animals. In the zoo they may lose some of those killer instincts, but they are fed and protected by humans. In the book, there is an analysis of how animals are actually very co...
