French Toast Souffle with Summer Berries
2008-05-13 03:09:00
[NB: A huge "THANK YOU" to all of you who sent good wishes my way yesterday. I really wasn't intending to sound so "woe-is-me" (I do that quite enough around the diet issues, thank you), but just reflecting on how the day could elicit positive vibes for all concerned.  Your comments sure worked toward that end for me, though: big hugs to all of you! ] In my mind, here’s the perfect way to wake up on a Sunday morning:  Outside, the weather is balmy. A mild breeze whispers through the slightly opened window, curtains undulating softly with each invisible breath.  The sun makes its presence known through the diaphanous curtain as it tickles the pillows of our bed with little sparkles of laughing light. Elsie pads quietly over to my side of the bed and, as gently as a rose petal floating to the ground, taps my open palm with her soft, moist nose. I open my eyes slowly. Glancing toward the window, I stretch luxuriously and think, ”Ahh, yes! Another lovely, su...

Unlocked French iphones not selling like French toast
2008-04-02 21:52:00
With all the fuss over unlocked iPhones, you'd think that France provider Orange—the only company who legitimately sells them—would be doing bumper business in legally unlocked iphones. Not so: a spokesperson for the company recently said that sales for the unlocked model were about 12,600 or 14% of the 90,000 sold as of January 31, 2008. So why the low demand, what with so many unlocked phones popping up around the world? Actually, that's the answer right there. With the "official" unlocked model costing &eur;649 (~US$1017), it's a substantial premium over even an imported gray market iPhone. And with unlocking a still relatively simple process, there's little point in paying all the extra dough for something you can do at home, virtually for free. Copyright Mac Publishing LLC. Is Bush Bud Sarko Now French "Toast"?
2008-03-11 18:38:00
My, how the luster has worn off French president Nicolas Sarkozy!I mean, wasn?t it almost a year ago when conservatives in this country were engaged in all kinds of gyrations (here) over the fact that we now had a leader of that country who they liked because he supposedly was going to stand up to those nasty unions and snap his people into action (work more, play less, get the guys to start watching ?he man? stuff like the WWF and indoor monster truck rallies instead of sitting around by the Seine moping while eating brie and drinking mineral water and listening to Edith Piaf?or something)?Gosh, whatever could have gone so wrong? Well, as noted here?According to a CSA poll published Sunday, only 48 percent of the French trust the president to run the country - a fall of seven points in a month. Since last July, his approval rating has plunged by 17 percentage points."President Sarkozy is exposing his flamboyant personal life at the moment the French want him to deliver on his promi...

Whole Grain French Toast for a Chilly Saturday
2008-01-26 23:44:00
Apparently my toast ramblings of yesterday penetrated deep within my brain because I woke this morning, starving, with a profound craving for French toast. It had been a restless night. I drank far too much tea yesterday to ward off the chills, and the caffeine coursing through my veins, coupled with the lyrics of Oscar the Grouch's song "I Love Trash" (Nick's new favorite song on Sesame Street Musical Celebration) coursing through my brain had me tossing and turning. So it was time to get up, get to the kitchen (Nick on hip), and start making French toast. Most mornings, I am not a big breakfast kind of woman. A smoothie, a muffin, a bowl of cereal, some fruit, and/or some yogurt (almost always yes to yogurt?I have an obsession with the stuff and will write about it another time). So if the desire does strike to eat something hearty, I don?t put up a fight (and this morning, I didn?t).I have the same feelings about French toast as I do other toast, especially when it comes to the br...

Recipe: Mango Stuffed French Toast: Inside The Mind of a Leftover Queen
2007-09-21 20:08:00
We needed to go to the store BAD. There was just nothing in the house to eat. I could hear an echo in the fridge when I closed the door for about the 5th time, hoping that if I opened it again, I would find inspiration in the worst of times. Afterall, what kind of Leftover Queen was I if I was not able to find SOMETHING to eat! It was lunch hour and our stomachs were growling. I needed to make something, that was obvious, but what? Open the fridge…AGAIN… stare for a few minutes MORE. I was beginning to feel rather stumped and annoyed with myself for lacking all this food creativity. Hurumph. Wait. Today was the day that my Honey Hazelnut Semifreddo had been made and we had leftover eggs that did not whip properly and they needed to be used - not gonna waste 3 egg whites on my watch! There was also some bread in the fridge and cream cheese, thoughts of lunch were beginning to form. Somewhere recently we had heard about stuffed French toast and it sounded really good, but ...

Easter was the usual massive big crazy family dinner! I am still full from my dinner! Last night Mr K, I took Miss Z to the Carnival, to see the fireworks. I swear I get a kick out of them more then her! Despite the freezing cold, we had a great night. *Ahem* I mean, Miss Z had a great night! :P When we got home we watched a movie called De ja Vu. (Thanks for the recommendation JDR) We loved it! I have heard some really sad news about some friends of mine. I always knew they had a warped relationship, but it seems like things have gotten worse. I recently heard of one of them cheating on the other. (Usually its ok when the other person is there) I am wondering if i speak of what I know, or just keep out of it. I am just so sad for them. They really are awesome people, but not in a good place right now. French Toast with Sliced Banana & Butter Lemon Caramel Sauce
2007-02-15 01:41:01
Thank goodness the price of bananas have come down. Our family love them and tonight I got these for $2.99 a kilo. We are going to have these tomorrow morning sliced on top of french toast made with sour dough bread and a home made butter, lemon and caramel sauce. Yummo! French toast is so easy. Just whisk a 6 eggs in a bowl with a splash of cream, then dunk the thick slices of sour dough in the mixture. Fry in a fry pan that has a little butter on a medium heat until golden on each side. Place all your french toast onto a baking tray and put in a very low oven to keep warm. To make your sauce is easy. Stick two big tablespoons of butter into a saucepan and allow to melt. Then add two generous tablespoons of brown sugar and simmer lightly until the sugar has dissolved. Throw in a half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon and the juice of half a lemon. Allow to simmer for a minute or so. Then take the saucepan off the heat. Place two pieces of the french toast on a plate and then top with s...
