Zapak Targets The Younger Gamer Market Through Distributing Crayola’s
2011-08-25 12:39:00
Reliance ADAG’s Zapak.com has won sole distribution rights to American stationery giant Crayola’s products in India. It’s one of the oldest tricks in the book for a foreign company to form a “strategic†alliance with a local partner who knows the ins and outs of doing business in India. Crayola will now use Zapak’s distribution network to sell its products. Zapak Games will directly purchase the products from Crayola and sell them in India without paying Crayola any additional royalty. The company makes a range of creative products including crayons, markers and paints, besides an entire range of Color Wonder and Color Explosion products and their target audience are kids aged 4-10 years. Why Distribute Kiddie Crayons? We see this as a clever marketing ploy. Zapak wants to target kids at an early stage, as these young ones will soon be old enough to embark on a lifetime of spending time on-line, and Zapak will be the biggest brand recall among this demographic. ...

Chicagoan Rachael Kirtley (FXYMXY) knows games well. She's gamed competitively for a decade, starting with Aliens vs. Predator and Quake on the PC. She also gamed professionally for a year for vVv gaming - a Chicago-based gaming community. Now she has lent her gaming expertise to a Sony Playstation podcast as the co-host of "Replay With Doc." Gamer 101: The Concept of Theory Crafting
2011-01-26 06:35:00
The Concept of Theory Crafting - By Sean vVv Blazek Emes, edited by Jerry "vVv LordJerith" ProchazkaWith the launch of Rift: Planes of Telara only a few months away, many members and visitors to vVv Gaming's website have spent an exorbitant amount of time theory crafting on topics such as classes, skills, group makeup, and much more. To players new to the MMO genre, these discussions are often very in-depth and can sometimes even be confusing.  So, let's discuss what Theory Crafting is and good practice when doing it yourself! Gamer Tips: Improving your game
2011-01-12 04:05:00
Performance Enhancement: General Tips to Improve Your Game - By Sean "vVv Blazek" Emes Over the last few days, I have been looking back on all of the articles we have written on the geek to me blog, trying to find out what else I can talk about to help gamers get into competitive gaming scene or simply to improve themselves. We have written articles about competitive settings multiple times, the importance of strategy, developing your own competitive maps, training, gaming communities, and so much more. All of these topics are ideas about competitive gaming, but none of them really teach you ways to improve your game... So today, let's catch up on ways to improve your game, regardless of...
Getting Gamer Gear for the Holidays!

Time to Upgrade! Holiday Hardware Edition - By Sean "vVv Blazek" Emes*Happy holidays everyone! This week I figured it was as good of a time as any to talk about a very important part of what makes good players even better, their hardware! For many gamers, upgrading hardware for the purpose of improving performances often is not considered. Gamers usually upgrade their hardware only in last resort situations; but if you want to improve your game, it may be time to make the change.Read more after the jump!...
Gamer Rant: Stubborn Gamers and Moving On
2010-12-07 22:52:00
Gamer Rant: Stubborn Gamers and Moving On - by Josh "vVv Zero" StilesI'd like to take this month's FAIL to discuss something holy to many gamers: their favorite games. We all have one game that we cherish more than any other and don't mind playing it repeatedly long after the system it was originally released on is replaced by the new generation. Whether it's Ocarina of Time, Halo 2, or Final Fantasy XIII there is always that one special game that we admire so much we're able to overlook its shortcomings and hold later games in the series to meet or exceed the expectations of the predecessor. Unfortunately, this love for one particular game also hinders some players from moving...

Gamer Rant: The Problem with Competition & MMOs
2010-11-12 04:03:00
The Problem with MMOs and Competition - By Sean "Blazek" Emes and Edited by Jordan "Doomhammer" Kahn "Look at them! They're even color coordinated!" I have been a huge fan of Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) games since their early days, starting with in the launch of Dark Age of Camelot in 2001. Many things about the games enticed me, but it was the Player vs Player (PvP) combat that got my heart racing and left me wanting more. The problem is that when I lost a fight that was seemingly balanced, it wasn't always, "Those guys were simply better than my team." Sometimes it was "Damn it, their gear was so much better. We had no chance!" One of the...
Gamer Tips: Change those Competitive Settings!
2010-10-13 05:32:00
Lose the Defaults Game Settings: The Importance of Competitive Settings - By Sean "Blazek" Emes, edited by Jerry "LordJerith" Prochazka Over the many articles we have written here on Geek to Me, vVv Gaming has been sharing with you the many aspects of competitive gaming. Today, we bring you a very important aspect that could be considered the very foundation of whether a game is playable competitively: game settings, maps and the elimination of random factors. To create a competitive setting for a game, both the developers and the players play separate, but equal importance. The developers must provide the tools to adjust parts of the game, including game types, weapons, spawn locations and even maps. This part is vital,...
Gamer Rants: The problem with female video game characters
2010-10-06 05:15:00
FAIL: The Problem with Female Video Game Characters - By Josh "vVv Zero" Stiles, edited by Jerry "LordJerith" Prochazka I figure I'd tackle a topic that has showed its ugly head once more in a beloved franchise. Let's get to hating on the girls, okay? (OK, so maybe I just got dumped. Maybe things got "complicated." I'll never tell.) Most video games feature strong dominant male leads that show off their manliness by blowing shit up and looking like they are having fun doing it. We idolize them, and some of us wish we could be as badass as Solid Snake or as cool as Nathan Drake. And on the other side of the spectrum, we've got our female leads....

Becoming a Pro Gamer: Playing for bragging rights
2010-09-09 04:10:00
It's for the Bragging Rights By Dakota "Rapture" Lasky, edited by Jerry "LordJerith" Prochazka* Why exactly do people play games competitively? What's the point of heading to tournaments just to play a game? It may be about the money. I am certain that being handed a big check with your name scribbled on it would be quite the trophy. It may even be about the girls or boys, assuming any care about your accomplishments in a video game. So, then, what is it that attracts us to playing competitively enough to win? Well, to put it simply, it's about the pride. It's about the glory and the respect. And, most of all, it's about bragging rights. Gamers love to brag.Read...
Becoming a Pro Gamer: The Importance of Training
2010-09-01 04:45:00
Becoming a pro gamer involves a lot of things. It means developing a reputation; getting into competition;and finding a sponsor.  It also means taking your game play seriously and training to get better. (Yeah, I know we even talked about taking a break from the game time to time.) But if you really want to make the ranks of the best, you can't be happy with 'good enough' which is what the folks of vVv Gaming are here to tell us about: The Importance of Training: Setting the Bar High -  by Dakota "Rapture" Lasky and Edited by Jordan "Doomhammer" Kahn "I just went up a rank on GB!" Gamer Rants: The Back-Seat Gamer
2010-08-25 04:48:00
Most anyone who has ever played video games has had to deal with them: back-seat gamers.  You know them, right? Those people who watch you play and give unwanted advice? (Well, they do more like yell stuff while you play.) If you think you're the only one who can't stand them, guess again! The folks of vVv Gaming also have a problem with them and have a message for them... STFU!!!Back-Seat Gamers or F*** Off and let me play my game! - By Dakota "Rapture" Lasky and Jerry "LordJerith" ProchazkaSome gamers seem to have become almost "back-seat drivers," especially in competitive situations. Can you be a hindrance to your team acting like a second coach? Is your advice always wanted?...
Gamer Rants: Dealing with Obsession
2010-08-18 05:16:00
The last time they gave out some life lessons, the folks of vVv Gaming were telling us about how gamers need to get a life.  I'll admit that I got a bit of a chuckle out of it.But today's article...well it hits a little close to home for me. See, it deals with the topic of obsessions, something that I am quite familiar with.  And it's funny because I'm sure a lot of non-gamers are going to read this piece and snicker, saying 'oh those silly nerds and their fantasies.'  But obsession doesn't have to just be with games or comic books, it can be with sports, or politics, and - oh yeah - the opposite sex.So keep that in...

If you've ever gotten annoyed after buying a video game and finding that there were still components you needed to download to complete your purchase, well you're not alone. DLC is the subject of today's article from the folks of vVv Gaming where we get a humorous look at why companies create games with downlodable content and why it often sucks:Reasons to HATE DLC - By Josh "Trip_5"Stiles, edited by Jerry "LordJerith" ProchazkaI remember a time back when video games could be purchased as a whole on a disc or cartridge. Though barely old enough to drive, Anthony Pennachio qualifies enough as a grizzled veteran of the professional gaming world that he's being employed as a scout for Major League Gaming. The 17-year old, who goes by his gamertag of "Totz," will be watching for raw talent at the Doritos' Pro-Gaming Combine in St. Charles this weekend - an event described as "American Idol-meets-Halo" where Chicago-area gamers vie for a chance to become professional Halo 3 players. 'Penny Arcade' gamer cartoonists turn boredom and slacker 'tude into empire
2010-05-03 20:24:00
Image via Wikipedia By BOB ANDELMAN The closest I ever came to being a gamer was during college when I worked at the Royal Park Cinemas in Gainesville, Florida. Theaters 3 & 4 had one of those sit-down tables with Ms. Pac-Man on it and bored, listless employees played it for hours in between movie start times. That was okay, but I preferred the pinball game in theaters 1 & 2. Our projectionist, David Rocky, figured out how you could hit it just so and play endless free games. That?s the extent of my experience?and desire?to be a gamer. I?ve never had the fascination with video and computer games that is so prevalent these days; never queued up for the release of Myst or anything with the name ?Final? in it that never seemed final at all. Which is why, despite my love of print and web comics, I somehow missed the ?Penny Arcade? phenomenon. My guests today are Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, the creators of the webcomic "Penny Arcade." They are celebrating the r...

Becoming a Pro Gamer: What to do when you suck
2009-11-17 18:24:00
When I first read this article from the folks at vVv Gaming, I had to laugh. Let's face it, we've all been there. We've all had days when nothing is going right for us and we just can't seem to get it together. We screw up. We do really poorly. I'll just come out and say it, there are days when we just suck. So what do you do on those days when your gaming skills just aren't up to par, you're just not as good as you thought you were and you're driving your fellow players to apoplexy? You do what Stephen "DarkChaos" Beach suggests, and 'embrace the suck'
