Happy New Y - ...What?...Oh right, it's almost March, you say. Right then...Moving swiftly on, as though I've been doing this site thing regularly all year, here's a wee page about Glasgow University that I've trotted out.To give you a treat for waiting so long for something new to appear on the site, I've even given you a link on this new page to a video starring my goodself. I was invited to take part in a travel show being filmed last year for Icelandic TV, so yes, that's right, I'm now a pretty big deal in these here parts, so if you'd like to queue in an orderly fashion I'll sort out some autographs...Still got a few other new pages up my sleeve, so maybe this time next year you'll see something else being added.
Brief Outline of Glasgow
2012-02-21 08:54:00
Often referred to as ?the second capital? of Scotland, Glasgow is a wonderful city to visit all year round. Furthermore, if you are a history buff like me, you will be pleased to know that the city was founded in the 6th century by St Mungo. Using my Central Glasgow hotel as the centre point, ...

Welcome to the Botanic Gardens Glasgow
2011-11-29 15:18:00
Quite the year I tell you. Quite the year.I've chosen to kick start the ol' Top Ten Glasgow Guide again with a page on the Botanic Gardens Glasgow. Nothing better than a bit of fresh air and greenery to get the puff back in the chest, and with this renewed sense of motivation I've already plugged ol' Faither back into the computer for some more Glasgow Generations podcast revelry soon, and have also started work on a page about Tinto Tapas Bar, the final piece of the restaurant section jigsaw, and hope to have it up soon. Once that's completed though, I'm planning on visiting and writing about the new Don Costanzo restaurant that's opened up following the tragic closure of Costanzo's old place, Ristorante Caprese (it's at 13 Woodside Crescent, Glasgow, and their new telephone number is +44 141 332 3070).I feel I have to apologise for not working on the site in 2011, although I'm continually flabbergasted at the regularity throughout the year of your interest and emails des...

Molly Malones Glasgow
2011-03-15 12:04:00
By Yuli Linssen Kaminitz, guest blogger from EasyToBook.com.There is no better way to finish this "Glasgow's Top 5 Hot Spots" list than with a cool Irish pub. The best thing about Irish pubs is the fact that you always know what to expect. The same old 'cozy atmosphere combined with good beer on the menu' method, always wins. Aside from the amazing vibe, Molly Malone's also offer live shows every Friday and Saturday evening. Enjoy a cold beer with some salty nuts on the side while listening to some great local artists.Address: 244 Hope Street, City Centre, Glasgow G2 3PT, 0141 332 2757
Buchanan Galleries Shopping Glasgow
2011-03-15 11:58:00
By Yuli Linssen Kaminitz, guest blogger from EasyToBook.com.After a long night of dancing it might be good to do something relaxing like retail shopping. This stylish shopping centre is considered to be one of the best and most luxurious in the city. The mall is located in the city centre and you will be able to find there more than 90 brands. Other than big names such as H&M and Mango, the mall also offers smaller boutiques where upcoming designers are able to showcase their work. Enjoy a full day strolling around the shops, eating in one of the available restaurants and browsing at the different sales.Address: Buchanan Street, Glasgow, 0141 333 9898
Nice and Sleazy Bar Glasgow
2011-03-15 11:54:00
By Yuli Linssen Kaminitz, guest blogger from EasyToBook.com.If you want to party Glasgow style, then this is the place for you. This extremely popular but yet alternative club is the ultimate place for people who appreciate quality music which is not necessarily mainstream. The place offers a nice experience for all types of music lovers. There are live gigs every other night, a dance hall for pumping parties, and different party themes every week in order to make sure that there are enough options to choose from. After a long night of dancing and drinking you will probably get some appetite - just order one of their tasty night meals, (such as halloumi burger or Spanish frittata) and keep on partying.Address: 421 Sauchiehall St, City Centre Glasgow G2 3LG 0141 333 0900

By Yuli Linssen Kaminitz, guest blogger from EasyToBook.com.The Blue Dog Bar is an extremely popular place in Glasgow thanks to its laid back atmosphere and old school vibe. This relaxed hot spot opened in 2003 and ever since it has become the number one place for cocktails in town. After a nice dinner head out to the Blue Dog Bar in order to enjoy some jazzy music and exclusive alcohol beverages. When arriving there you will be pleasantly surprised by the crowd. There is a nice mix between old and younger people, all enjoying and engaging together in conversation. Rococo Restaurant Glasgow
2011-03-15 11:48:00
By Yuli Linssen Kaminitz, guest blogger from EasyToBook.com.This beautiful restaurant is by far one of the trendiest places in town. The modern design, creative and super delicious menu, excellent service and intimate atmosphere, all make it a truly unique place. Rococo restaurant has always been a favorite place to have dinner, it is generally free from bad reviews and if you ask any local person, he will for sure recommend you to go there. Even though this hot spot is extremely chic and elegant, you will not get here any stuck up attitude. The friendly staff are always welcoming and happy to serve new and regular clients.Address: 48 West Regent Street, City Centre, Glasgow - 0141 221 5004

Some superb Glasgow jokes
2009-11-20 11:43:00
Thanks go to my brother Steven for sending me through some fantastic Glasgow jokes, and I've now hurried them into my Glesca Patter section on the site to give you another flavour of Glaswegian humour.A wee example for you for starters -While being interviewed for a job as a bus driver, a guy is asked:"What would you do if you had a rowdy passenger?""I'd put him off at the next stop," he says."Good. And what would you do if you couldn't get the fare?""I'd take the first two weeks in August," he replies. Now, if you don't get that, you're likely not from Scotland so don't worry (it's about the Glasgow Fair holiday, and he's saying that...ach, who cares...), but feel free to have a look at the rest - there's some real gems in there and if you've got any of your own, fire them over to me and I'll list them on the page.
Tony Roma's Glasgow - best ribs in town
2009-11-10 18:14:00
With only one box left to tick in the restaurant section, comes my new review of Tony Roma's Glasgow restaurant, definitely the best place in town for ribs.Have a read about why this place exists in direct contradiction with the extreme sports centre in which it resides, and how much over the years it's begun to stick happily to my fingers as a good slab of ribs should.Once I finish off my little piece on the Sisters restaurant in Glasgow that'll be my eating out section done for now, leaving me free to focus on ploughing my way through the attractions bit.A hard slog I know, but someone's got to do it...

Out of hiding - Glasgow Cathedral Precinct
2009-03-31 15:03:00
I've not actually completed the section on it yet, but it's come to my attention that at this point, if you type the words 'glasgow cathedral precinct' into Google, my new page on it is already at number 2 in the search results.Who knows how that's happened, but now that the cat's out the bag, here's the link to the page. I'm still not finished the whole thing yet, so I'd love to hear whether you think my rant about sectarianism in Glasgow is a bit too heavy, or otherwise if you think it's fine.I hope to complete the whole section soon and will of course let you know.
The Premier Inn Charing Cross Glasgow
2009-03-23 12:53:00
So what sets the Premier Inn Charing Cross Glasgow Hotel apart from the rest?It does exactly as it says on the tin - great location, standard cleanliness and customer service across the board, good night's rest, reasonably-priced restaurant - I've never had a second thought about booking a Premier Inn, and after staying here I hope you agree.Just make sure Lenny Henry's not in the next room...
How about the Jurys Inn Glasgow?
2009-03-23 12:48:00
This is a massive slice of cool in the City Centre of Glasgow. You can always rely on a Jury's being where you want it and how you want it, and the Jurys Inn Glasgow on Jamaica Street is no exception to the rule.Take a look around the place using the link here, and from all the reviews about the hotel you'll see here, you'll soon understand why it makes it very easily onto my Top Ten list of the best hotels in Glasgow.
Thistle Glasgow Hotel
2009-03-23 12:44:00
Now that the hotel section is up and running, how's about filling it up with some decent places to stay?I've completed a wee introductory page on the Thistle Glasgow Hotel, which is a long-standing favourite in the City - perfect location for Sauchiehall Street, Buchanan Street and even ideal for spotting local celebrities (and not just me, that is. Ahem...).Enjoy your stay at Thistle, and feel free to send me your comments if you do.
New Hotel Glasgow Section
2009-03-23 12:40:00
As promised, here's a wee section on booking the best hotels in Glasgow.I've done a whack of research into the favourite Glasgow hotels based on number of bookings, reviews, facilities and so on, so hopefully you'll have plenty of choice to suit your stay in the City. But hey, it's not all about me. If you don't agree with my selection of the Top Ten hotels in Glasgow, I've also included a handy wee search form which will search all the top places to stay in Glasgow. Anything else, as always just let me know.

No Smoking In Glasgow
2008-10-24 17:38:00
I have probably heard around twenty-five shows from the Bigger Bang tour in bootleg form now. This is one of the better ones for some reason. It is soundboard quality, no crowd noise, great balance. But what really attracted me was the great version of Sway. The RS messageboards were going a bit nuts when the band unleashed Sway during the last tour and I was excited to hear it too. I have one other version from the Stateside tour, but the Glasgow version is superior due to the bigger guitar sound that I think the song needs. It has more swing in this version. I know that my Rolling Stones writing output has been sporadic at best throughout 2008. I never followed up on Shine A Light, but it was an amazing experience I should have written about. I really felt like I had seen the band after the film was over. I saw at the Imax as I imagine it was meant to be seen and I wish I had gone back. At the same time, the film made me a bit sad. Although the band always tries hard to come acros...

Monday, August 25th, 2008: Helsingborg to Glasgow to Montreal to London
2008-08-25 09:13:00
What I think:I just got back last Thursday night after a two-week trip. The main purpose of the journey was to attend a 26th-year high school reunion in Montreal, but I had been incessantly nagged by a friend to visit her in Glasgow for the past few years so, since I had to fly via London anyway (no direct flights to Montreal from Copenhagen), I thought I'd take the opportunity to make a detour up to Glasgow, as I had never been, and was pretty much passing by, and boy-oh-boy this was a long sentence (*stops for breath*).My girlfriend and I got on the ferry from Helsingborg to Helsingör (that's Elsinore, home of Hamlet's castle, for all you Shakespeare buffs) with our backpacks, went up to the sun deck, sat down and started eating the sandwiches we'd bought. So far so good. Then there was this bloody wasp buzzing around. I waited for it to land on the table and swatted it with a napkin. Got him. Or did I? Nope. There was a bit of a gap between my fingers, and the little bugger c...
