2012 Donington World Superbikes: Friday - Cold, but not wet
2012-05-11 23:52:00
Before we quickly gloss over the inevitable mention of the weather, it would be unfair not to mention the current reason for the increase in popcorn sales in the Superbike paddock. Jakub Smrz put his Effenbert-sponsored Ducati on provisional pole while his sponsor's future is uncertain. After a rather odd press release that seems to have been written while angry at one of their bikes braking down on the warm up lap at Monza, the Czech brewer refused to bring their hospitality suite to Donington. The Liberty Racing teams look set to continue racing for the remainder of the year, and may even be a bit embarrassed by their heated press release, but time will tell if it will be under the same sponsor's banner. The bikes at Donington sported the Effenbert livery and the garage was still decked in their colours, but no word yet on brolly dollies or other promotional activities. Peter Hickman to replace John Hopkins for Donington WSBK
2012-05-10 22:05:00
Jack Valentine, team manager at Crescent FIXI Suzuki, has announced that a last-minute replacement for John Hopkins has been found. After struggling to find anyone from the BSB series that was able to fill the seat, Peter Hickman, MSS Bathams Kawasaki rider in the British series, was revealed as Hopkins's replacement the night before the riders first took to the track for the weekend. Effenbert boycott Donington WSBK
2012-05-10 20:12:00
Effenbert Liberty Racing have decided not to bring their hospitality suite, the largest in the paddock, to the European World Superbike round at Donington. While Liberty Racing will support Sylvain Guintoli, Jakub Smr? and Maxime Berger this weekend, they will do so without their sponsor's hospitality. They say they are doing this as a protest against what they believe was favouritism shown by the WSBK organisers towards certain riders at the weather-beleaguered World Superbike round at Monza last weekend. In Britain, a desperate Brown hangs on
2009-06-07 20:07:00
In Britain, a desperate Brown hangs on LONDON - Two years ago, Gordon Brown entered 10 Downing Street for the first time as prime minister and promised, without a smile, to “try my utmost.” The brainy, stone-faced Scot was the perfect tonic for a British public jaded after a decade of his flashy predecessor, Tony Blair. ...

It's been a long time. Work's busy, private life is busy. Lots of stuff going on which I don't want to bother visitors with. It's not a matter of lack of material. I still have plenty of pics to choose from and to post. Normally preparing postings take some time, because I always like to provide some background information with the pics I'm posting, so I look for some useful URL's to related websites and Wikipedia, do a little bit of research etc...With all the time- and energy consuming stuff that is going on right now, maybe I should limit the backgroundinformation and just post some pics every now and then without comment or just a minimum of background information. For now I will leave you with some pics from our last trip to England, last December. See for backgroundinformation the URL's in my posting of 30 December 2008. The pics in this posting were also taken at Bude, North-Cornwall but a few days earlier when the weather was much greyer than on the pics in the other po...

Can Great Britain Repeat Gold in Men’s 4×100m?
2008-05-25 09:44:00
In 1996, when the USA were too busy worrying about where to fit in Carl Lewis for the 4×100 meter relay, Canada stayed focus to win the Gold medal. But the Americans bounced back with a vengence with Maurice Green and won the Gold medal back in 2000. However, in 2004, the Americans bobbled the second exchange between Justin Gatlin and Coby Miller which gave Great Britain the Gold medal in the 4×100m relay with a cast of: Darren Campbell Marlon Devonish Jason Gardener Mark Lewis-Francis Fast forward to 2008 and their team doesn’t have a hope in hell (in my opinion) to win the gold. Why? 1) Darren Campbell retired 2) controversial Dwain Chambers may not be allowed to run 3) Mark Lewis-Francis suffered an achilles injury last month and is out of Games: The 4×400m is pretty much an automatic win for the Americans, but in the 4×100 meters, anything goes! At the end of World war II in 1945, the Jewish population of Great Britan numbered about 450,000 people but today it has declined to about 280,000. The decline is most probably attributed to several factors such as a lower birth rate among those with higher incomes, the departure of some British Jews ...
