Muslims Rail Against Baseball Team's Jewish Heritage Night
2011-04-19 23:00:00 -By Warner Todd Huston Apparently the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is not happy that the Oakland A's have scheduled its first Jewish Heritage night. In fact, CAIR thinks that the mere fact that the A's even have a night to recognize Jewish fans is somehow evidence that America is out to get Muslims. It must be emotionally draining to be a Muslim. After all, they seem to spend every waking minute finding new things to get outraged over, their every breath seems dedicated to finding people giving them slight. And that's not to mention the suicide bombings, death threats, and murderous riots! The delusion must be all consuming and tiring. I know it's tiresome, anyway... Read the rest...

Phuket Heritage Trails tour in Phuket Town
2010-10-07 04:43:00 Phuket to many people means beaches, family holidays, nightlife, luxury resorts, shopping, maybe diving, snorkeling, sailing, golf, elephant rides, tours and of course the famous smile :) A lot of the reason for this blog is to highlight the other Phuket, the history, the festivals and local life, local restaurants and things to do that might not be so obvious. Visitors may not realise that Phuket has a rich and varied history, although you can't find much sign of this by sitting on the beach. The beach areas were sparsely inhabited until recently. The main population areas 100 years ago included Thalang (in the center of the island) and Phuket Town. Thalang was the main town until the late 19th century. Phuket Town became very important due to the tin mining boom in the 19th century as well as the rubber industry, and it's access to the sea with a sheltered port. Some parts of Phuket Town are more modern, especially around the edges, with shopping malls and new houses, but the ol...

The Canadian Heritage Rivers System (CHRS) - Le Réseau de rivières du patri
Traitor Chelios undeserving of Heritage Night

From bringing back Pat Foley, hiring John McDonough, televising home games, launching the Blackhawks convention, and honoring former Hawks greats with heritage nights, the Hawks have been right on with their decisions. Well, tonight, I think the Hawks have finally dropped the ball. Just under and hour ago, I received the official press release. "Blackhawks to Host Chris Chelios Heritage Night December 17th."In the words of Samir Nagheenanajar from Office Space, "This is horrible...this idea."I get why the Hawks would think it's a good idea to honor this douche guy. He was the best defenseman to ever play for the Hawks. He was arguably...

Inspiration Tour: Heritage Trail
2010-05-03 23:26:00 Once a month or so, I take a time out from garage and thrift sales and head for a favorite place to drink in tons of design. I like to go for inspiration and to convene-not so much with the people, though they're nice, too--but with the objects. Some are handcrafted, some repurposed and most are secondhand. I browse from corner to corner, study the items up close, and after an hour or two, I come away feeling the objects have imparted a little of their creative wisdom to me. I know I'm not alone in this habit, lots of people have personal places for inspiration and sanity, too. Working weekends at a Crate&Barrel a few years ago, I'd see...

Archeological Heritage
2009-10-09 04:03:00 An important battlefield for centuries, Dipalpur is now a quite and peaceful town. It is situated at the distance of 25 Kilometres from Okara on an old bank of River Beas in Bari Doab. Dipalpur is famous in the history as an outpost that has played a significant part in the defence of Delhi kingdom against Mongol invasions in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. History of Dipalpur dates back to ancient times. The coins of Sakas (Scythian) period found on the site suggest that the place was inhabited in 100 (BC). After Multan this is probably the oldest living city in the Subcontinent. General Alexander Cunningham writes that the place figures out in works of Ptolemy under different names. As per the tradition, Dipalpur was named after Raja Dipa Chand once he captured it. Dipalpur once used to be the first fortification in the way from Khyber to Delhi. In 1285, Muhammad Tughlaq son of Emperor Balban was killed in a bloody battle with Mongols and the famous poet Amir Khusuro was...

Strong results for Barons British Heritage and Classic Cars sale
2009-09-23 18:48:00 Sandown Park was a busy place on September 8th, as buyers made their way to Barons? British Heritage and Classic Cars sale. And, when the hammer fell on the final lot, over 80% of the cars on offer had found new homes, with spirited bidding pushing a number of lots well over estimate. Highlights included the LHD 1959 MG TF1500, which sold for a whisker under £23,000, while a lively battle ensued between bidders in the hall and no less than seven on the phone for the 1961 MGA 1600 FHC (£9,266). And a magnificent 1961 MkII Jaguar achieved £31,231, demonstrating yet again that beautifully-presented cars have a ready market. The sale also saw one of the oldest cars that Barons? has ever sold go under the hammer ? a sprightly 1918 Buick E-Six-49 which sold for £13,161.50. The sale was a very positive introduction to Barons for the company?s new Director of Business Development, Julian Shoolheifer, former head of Sotheby?s and Cheffins? motor car departments. Barons? A Pest and an Exterminator, Sharing an Outdoor Hockey Heritage
2009-09-17 20:15:00 Two Minnesotans, Joe Finley and Trevor Bruess, are camping with the Capitals this week, and they skated on a line together in Wednesday's Duchesne Cup concluding scrimmage. Minneapolis native Bruess was signed by the Caps last spring after completing his junior season at Minnesota State; he's a modest 6 '0, 209, but he plays bigger than his size, and can he skate! It'd be downright scary to imagine Edina native Joe Finley playing bigger than his 6 '7, 245 frame. As I watched them antagonize the opposition on just about every shift in their scrimmages this week I thought of Bruess as the Pest and Finley as the Exterminator. They're about the same age, and I don't think it's inconceivable to imagine them as part of a Capitals' antagonism outfit in a couple of years. As Minnesota-raised hockey players, Bruess and Finley share a profound appreciation for playing hockey outdoors, on the State of Hockey's abundant frozen playgrounds for puck. "That's where it all st...

Signs in Suleman Range
2009-09-01 05:31:00 Perched in between legendary Suleman Range on one side and mighty River Indus on the other, ruins of original Harand Fort are situated in the area commonly known as Pachaddh. The Fort has seen a lot in the past and looks as if hiding thousands of secrets besides its historical and archaeological importance. The Fort was originally built opposite historic Chachar Pass in Suleman Range to guard against the invaders. The fading signs of the edifice are still there in the forms of derbies and bricks scattered around the old site. Sikh Governor Sawan Mall used the material of the old fort rebuilt the Fort on a new location in 1831. Present structure of the Fort - a valuable part of our heritage - is situated about 25 kilometres west of sleepy and rustic town Dajal in district Rajan Pur.
