Will Harry Reid Steal (Senators?) Christmas?
2009-12-18 07:40:00 While Ben Nelson may well have saved Christmas for most Americans, Harry Reid is bound and determined to take it away from his Senate colleagues, threatening around-the-clock votes through Christamas if the GOP continues to act in the spirit of Obama’s campaign promises. You know, they don’t want to rush passage of legislation spending hundred ...

Sneak peeks: Holidays at 'The Office,' '30 Rock,' &apos

When you are short on time, but want to eat healthy over the holidays- why
2009-12-05 04:32:00 When I take a bite of moist chocolate cake the last ingredient I imagine being inside is beets. But that was the secret to the moist flavorful cake that was served at our friends Greg and Nicole Stranton's dinner party. Our kids ate it up and our oldest asked for seconds. I had to know more about it so I asked Nicole and she said that her kids request it for their birthday parties-yep Beet cake! With the holidays approaching and all the cookies and sweets that come with it, I try to constantly introduce healthy items to my kids at dinnertime....
Birthdays and Holidays
2009-11-21 03:42:00 Today my husband turned 55- double nickels as he has baptized it-and due to my hysterical Catholic nature, we are not celebrating. I have a higher purpose- packing and planning. Tomorrow we embark upon the most wondrous family experiences- the family vacation. Steve booked this trip to our time share (interval ownership, he insists) last year- 365 days ahead of our arrival. 15 days later, he was shuffled out the door at Jack-FM, and his available vacation days expanded exponentially. Had he been sure of his severance ( he had an inkling) I am positive he would have elected to travel in ANY week besides a holiday week. Too late. It is only November, after all, and though the days...

At the center of this four-character drama--inspired by Gross' own life and family experience--is young Billy Roman (Max Zuppa) and the anxiety-riddled preparations for his Bar Mitzvah in 1963 north suburban Chicago. When Billy's older brother Rob (Ian Paul Custer) returns from college for the High Holidays, he further elevates household tensions by bringing along his own ideas about his future--and the boys' parents Essie (Rengin Altay) and Nate (Keith Kupferer) must face some difficult...

80% Urban Indians Plan Holidays Via Travel Portals – Are The Best Day
2009-08-31 07:28:00 When was the last time you booked a ticket using one of the online travel portals like MakeMyTrip or Yatra? Even if you think that was long time back, chances are high that you used them at least to check on the prices or ticket availability. That’s because an overwhelming majority of urban Indians do it that way. A new study by Nielsen shows that nearly 80 percent of Indians plan their holidays using online travel portals. “Indians” is a broad generalization here, because the study covered 842 metro, Internet-savvy Indians who had traveled by air in the past one year. I s**k at statistics, yet I think it is fair to say that this is a very small sample that just accounts for a small minority of the entire sample set. Nevertheless, assuming that we are only talking about metropolitan Internet-savvy people, the study still throws numbers of high significance. Here are some more numbers from the study – 77% of those surveyed had used the travel portals for airl...

The Type of Man We Honor Today
2009-05-25 09:40:00 Today, Memorial Day, we honor those “who have died in our nation’s service.” They gave their lives that we might be free. Regretting that we do not remember military heroes as much as we once did, Peggy Noonan (showing once again her relationship to the goddess Athena who inspired courage and appreciated valor in Greek warriors) ...

Nightly Ramble: Catching Up From the Holidays
2009-01-05 22:01:00 Welcome one and all to the most intense nightly read on the ’shere… Bit’sBlog’s Nightly Ramble First regular ramble of the New Year, and so much going on, I don’t know as I can fir it all in… but I’ll try. Boy, you would have thought that somebody had set off a bomb around here the way the ground has been shaking after I posted the story about Hillary Clinton and the Syracuse developer of the Carousel Mall, there in Syracuse.   I didn’t say much, yesterday when I posted it, but it blows my mind completely away that the New York Times is daring to put anything in the paper that puts Hillary Clinton in less than favorable light. Congel and his money appropriation act as long been a topic of discussion amongst upstate New York political watchman. I do have to wonder what brought this to the fore, just now. I mean, it’s not like the Democrats don’t already have a number of things already on their plate, with the Fra...

Giants Quiet Down For Holidays
2008-12-22 22:39:00 Over the first month and a half of the off-season, the Giants have been one of the busier teams in baseball signing 3 major league free agent players and being very active amongst other free agent and trade discussions. However, they haven't made a news breaking move since signing Edgar Renteria a few weeks back and they probably will stay relatively quiet until after Christmas. They did make a move that may have gone slightly under the radar though by signing minor league free agent Jesus Guzman. The Giants nabbed the 24-year old third basemen in hopes that he could figure it out in the upper levels with their organization. The youngster hit .305 with 25 home runs and 112 RBI in high A ball with Oakland in 2007, then went on to lead the Texas league (AA) in hitting last season batting at a .364 clip with 14 home runs and 76 RBI. What is a little worrisome though is that he hasn't really done much (59 at-bats) above Double-A. Also, him and Pablo Sandoval have been tearing up the W...

Happy Holidays, LOHO!
2008-12-21 23:12:00 As Christmas, more nights of Chanunkkah, Boxing Day and (presumably) Kwanzaa (I'll admit, I have no idea when Kwanzaa is) inch closer, the editorial and support staff here at LOHO are going to shut the place down until after Christmas. You see, Carl got into the mulled wine, Matt took off for the Carribean, and Flyball has been sitting in the corner rocking back and forth and muttering about some "portfolio" or some such. Meanwhile, Sec, disappointed about not getting Jake Peavy, has decided to open the Pub early this season, so Abe took off to open up the Island, leaving me to open up the Lodge for the rest of us. Back at the LOHO Ranch, it's so cold that the pipes have all frozen (Baturkey didn't keep the water running like he was supposed to), Raalickeller has just been seeing how many times he can spin around in his chair without his feet hitting the floor, and Mark has been on the phone for weeks bugging Bush about some pardon for some guy. Umbra and millertime have spent d...
