Google Boosts Search Intelligence With Knowledge Graph
2012-05-18 06:30:00
I had come across an interesting comparison some time back when I read that the supposedly benign Google had an intelligence level of a baboon. Depending on how you view a glass containing a certain amount of water, you could say that this is pretty cool or frightening. Google Search converted us, Internet users, into Information junkies who had an easy access to whatever they wanted to search in the whole wide world. The fact that Google’s primate intelligence was not really enough sometimes because search keywords were not able to zero in on the right word, place or context was a little troubling but we all accepted that this was the best technology could offer. That is changing from now on! Source: Google   Google today announced the next biggest thing in Search and it is called the Knowledge Graph. The knowledge graph is ambitious project which aims at eliminating the errors in context based results and ultimately hold a total repository of knowledge, just like what Wikip...

How much of your success at Geologic Resource Partners do you attribute to your business acumen and how much to your relationships in the industry? George Ireland: Having grown up in a mining-oriented family, the dinner table conversations from an early age steeped me in the lore and intrigue of business. Based on that early interest, I have built up quite a book of relationships and a broad knowledge over the years, but I attribute a lot of the opportunities that have come my way to . . . → Read More: Never Mistake Intelligence for a Bull Market: George Ireland

2012-03-24 17:43:00
No one can ignore that Op-ed Ibrahim Eissa wrote last week defending the General Intelligence ?GIS? and praising its chief Mouard Mowafi that made several Pro-Revolution Anti-SCAF activists and writers like dear Sarah Othman extremely angry from Eissa. It is worth to mention that Eissa was promoting for Omar Soliman?s presidential candidacy in Dostor for years before the revolution. Eissa?s Op-ed came right after a visit made by Dr. Hazem Abdel Azim to the GIS by the request of Mouard Mowafi to clarify some points. Abdel Azim used to accuse the GIS of fighting the revolution yet after two hours with Mowafi he had the impression that the bureau is not fighting the revolution on the contrary it supports it. The conclusion you got from note of Abdel Azim is that Mowafi is saying that he and the GIS are the good guys !! It is worth to say that Mowafi used to meet with political powers and figures like Muslim brotherhood and ElBaradei , human rights activists like Khaled Ali and Husse...

The Covert Intelligence War Against Iran
2011-12-12 19:18:00
Today I offer a topic that might have missed your "news-net" coverage of the eurozone crisis, US debt insanity, and a possible global recession. Folks, we may have the modern-day equivalent of the Cold War on our hands. Go ahead and let go of the images of McCarthy at the podium, the Sputnik launch, and reel footage of schoolchildren ducking under desks; this cold war likens more to Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible than the original with Peter Graves. I’m referring to ongoing covert operations against Iran over its quest for nuclear capabilities, and its staunch position against the existence of Israel. After the defection of nuclear officials, the Stuxnet computer worm, and a few questionable "explosions," it is . . . → Read More: The Covert Intelligence War Against Iran

Andhra Pradesh Intelligence Watch On Sathya Sai Central Trust. AP Gvt Closi
2011-06-24 11:44:00
Well wisher from India emails us: "It looks like the Andra Pradesh govt is putting the squeeze on the Sathya Sai trust. It appears that the Govt has a definite strategy in mind over a period, and hence the politicians and govt officials have been cold shouldering the SB trust officials (besides giving a silent go ahead for slapping criminal cases against them). The government has already withdrawn 16 exemptions to the SB trust, regarding auditing, some taxes, publishing accounts, being supervised by a govt official etc, among others. Even assets like land as well as intellectual properties can no longer be sold by the trust without govt permission. At a high level meeting , Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy (who is not a devotee), brushed aside his cabinet's apprehensions that SB devotees may be offended by any Govt takeover of the trust. It is strongly indicated that the Govt is moving towards this decision, and the young AP Chief minister (a former state cricketer...

Andhra Opposition Want Release of Gvt Spies? Reports On Sathya Sai Baba
2011-04-22 13:36:00
One may raise the question: why would four very experienced Andhra Pradesh intelligence operatives between them keep round-the-clock watch, that has been continued unabated for four years, on affairs at Puttaparthi? What else might they wish to know? After all, inner-circle Puttaparthi corruption is common knowledge among Indian state and central governments? Because Sai Baba has so many billionaire and millionaire supporters, the dimensions of the wealth flowing to the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust are on a scale that beggars the imagination. A speculation: By any chance, is the intensified interest related to extremely vast money laundering operations involving India and offshore tax havens? Are elements among Sathya Sai Baba's key servitors - but by no means all of them - involved in money laundering?

Donors and Would-be Donors Beware (Sathya Sai Central Trust Example)
2009-08-30 01:34:00
As the years pass, more evidence emerges of the very non-divine manner in which Sathya Sai Baba and his financial wing collect vast funds - particularly from wealthy donors. As with scams the world over, there are methods of 'spotting' - in this case, by ashram staff of visitors most likely to donate large sums. The admixture of 'miracles' - such as Sai Baba's 'materializing' of expensive rings or pendants etc., for the wealthy - is central to setting up of these traps. This operation involves the participation of the registration office, as well as Sathya Sai Baba's close servitors, many of them wealthy or those who have given away their wealth to him. Criminals and police forces often refer to this type of spotting as finding the 'mark' or victim to be set up. Donors and Would-be Donors Beware There are two classes of individual, and in some cases institutions, who have every reason to be looking at these issues. First, those who have already been donors to Sathya Sa...

Intelligence is a piano.
2009-05-30 20:28:00
By Vi Ransel5/27/09"Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people." - John Adams, second president of the United StatesIntelligence is a piano. And ours is out of tune. It takes practice to use it for the purpose for which it was intended. But we all have intelligence, since we developed it ourselves during the process of evolution, arriving in the present as a group of self-aware beings possessing free choice."So imagine if you will, that you live in a world where the 'laws' of economics are a mystery confined to the high priests of finance (much as the workings of the weather used to be solely the province of shamans). Holding on to this knowledge is vital, and explains why so many opposed, and still oppose, the creation of a REAL education system. Indeed (the fact that) so many aspects of our life flow from restricting knowledge of the workings of our economy is why, when push comes to shove, capitalism is presented to us as a 'force of nature' over...

Artificial Intelligence 101 - part 2
2009-03-28 06:22:00
Why AI?Now that we have established what Artificial Intelligence is, let's look at why we would want to create such a thing. There isn't much point in creating something if we don't know why we would need it at all. We already have natural intelligence - human beings. What sort of advantages do we gain by developing artificial intelligence?intelligence in natureTo help us answer this question, we first need to know what intelligence is used for in nature. The physical implementation of intelligence in nature is performed by neurons, so it is safe to say that any creature without a nervous system is incapable of intelligence. The simplest animal with a nervous system is Caenorhabditis elegans, which has exactly 959 cells in its body. 302 of those cells are neurons. All the other bodily functions - digestion, respiration, excretion, reproduction, circulation, and locomotion - are handled by the remaining 657 cells. This is an enormous portion of the animal's body being use...

Artificial Intelligence 101
2009-03-04 21:50:00
part 1: what is intelligence? When building an artificial something, it helps to know what the natural version of that something is. For example, when building a prosthetic leg, having an idea of what a natural leg is, what it is used for, how it interfaces with the rest of the body and so on is critical; without that information, the artificial version of a leg might have wheels or a knee that bends in all directions or so much mass that walking becomes impossible. There are details which are important to our purposes (such as the placement of the big toe, which is essential for balance), and details that are unimportant (like the exact number and placement of hairs on the leg) - and we need to figure out which of those details are important, to incorporate them into our artificial device. However, "intelligence" is an abstract concept, not a concrete object like a leg. It cannot be weighed or measured with a ruler or touched. Instead we need to describe what we know about intell...
