Google Harks Back In Time Reviving Iraq’s Lost Glory
2009-11-27 08:36:00 It’s been around 24 hours since we wrote about the Iraqi Government coming out on the internet to spread their word since the American invasion of Iraq. This followed by a Josh-type rage of many Mumbaikars pertaining to the one year anniversary of the 26/11 terrorist attacks on Mumbai. There were music concerts and candle light vigils all around the city, but like someone rightly said ‘you don’t feel the pain unless you’ve lost someone from your own family.’ I totally agree with NSG commando Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s father when he said that everyone wants a hero in their neighbourhood, but in their own homes. Stories and their outcome remain, as they get lost somewhere in the pages of uncertainty after few years. With no glory justified to the history of mankind, there’s one true master which keeps it alive, the internet. Reviving the images of epical tales and chronicles of the past, Google decides to do something for Iraq’s National M...

2009-09-21 16:20:00 McCain’s solution to the violence breaking out in Iraq was to send in more troops. Fortunately at the same time General David H. 2009-08-20 14:23:00 Image: Vintage BooksToday is election day in Afghanistan, and in honor of what everyone hopes will be at least a sputter-and-cough, rev-the-engine, apply-some-gas kind of day of democracy, I thought I'd recommend a good read that is entirely too appropriate for the occasion. You know how sometimes you're reading a book, and it's so good that you almost want to miss your train stop for work and just ride around the loop all day reading? So I just read a book like that, and it was so. Damn. Good. I just had to share it with you. PTSD raises heart disease risk in Iraq war vets
2009-08-05 18:10:00 Veterans who come home from Iraq and Afghanistan with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health diagnoses are hit with a double whammy: They also have greater risk factors for heart disease, according to a report in the Journal of the American Medical Association. PTSD related to military service has been linked to heart disease in the past, but, to the authors? knowledge, the present study is the first to examine the association for veterans of the current Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. Given the time frame of the recent wars, the authors of the study did not look at heart attacks or other events, but examined risk factors for heart disease instead. PTSD and other mental disorders, such anxiety disorder, more than doubled the risk of tobacco use, for example, which is a well-known risk factor.

Your chances of getting shot in Chicago are better than Iraq. Tribune Photo: Candice Cusic If you're on the south side, put a military helmet on and walk with a brisk gate. It's hunting season on people, and there's no handgun or assault weapon legislation with penalties that stick. Run for your life, get a better job, and head for a suburb void of erratic gunslingers. 2009-06-09 23:13:00 (And I also posted here.)Sorry I haven?t had anything to say on this for a little while, but as noted here? The House is about to vote on another supplemental spending bill for continued and escalated wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (without any exit strategy for Afghanistan whatsoever -- having refused to include that amendment).?Here are three reasons to join with the peace movement in asking your representative to vote No: This bill funds illegal and immoral wars; it funds the IMF; and it bans the release of torture photos and videos from the Bush-Cheney years. The third item pertains to the so-called Lieberman-Graham Amendment, which, I?m happy to note here, has been dropped from the supplemental (oops, not so fast ? definitely not a shining moment for Obama based on this).Update: Tee, hee, hee...I just checked Patrick Murphy?s web site, and at the moment there is no indication of how he will vote, but I?m inclined to believe that he will support the supplemental based on prior votes...
